			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I have just finished reading a brillant <a href="http://www.hubspot.com/online-marketing-opportunity-by-industry/?source=email-20100902c-opportunity" target="_blank">new guide by HubSpot which focuses on online marketing opportunity</a> and where as a business and a blogger you should be focusing your efforts online for your particular industry.</p>
<p>For example if you are in the gaming industry the report claims that 58% of the social media activity in this industry takes place on YouTube so that is where you should focus your attention if you are looking to get yourself noticed.  The interesting thing is tonight my 11 year old asked me if I would film him playing a video game so he could put it on YouTube and my question was&#8230; &#8220;Why would you want to do that?&#8221; &#8211; turns out loads of people watch them!</p>
<p>If you are a software blogger then you are in the right place because a large proportion of the online activity around software happens on blogs but the social media activity takes place on LinkedIn (would have never guessed that one!)</p>
<p>There are 33 industries covered in the report along with some great tips for creating a marketing strategy to use the 4 main social sites Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube.</p>
<p>For bloggers who have been learning about their industry there is nothing new to learn here &#8211; it is the same as it always was &#8211; aim for competitive keywords with high activity but low competition and keep ahead of your industry by providing the best updates and information that you can.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If there is one thing I am always talking about to bloggers it is the importance of building a subscriber list.  I wanted to let you know about some great <a href="http://www.fridaytrafficreport.com/how-to-quickly-build-a-big-subscriber-list/" target="_blank">list building tactics</a> from Jack Humphrey who is a master list builder and someone worth learning from when it comes to this stuff.</p>
<p>In this post Jack focused on how to quickly build an email subscriber list of people who want to hear from you and he then goes through 5 clear steps to help you get started with list building.</p>
<p>I recommend you take the time to read this post &#8211; it has a bunch of great steps and walks you through the process. Always remember that making money with a blog is less about people buying directly from your blog and more to do with people who join your list, become a subscriber and buy any products you recommend.</p>

<p>Rather than call it a list let&#8217;s call it what we need &#8211; which is an online audience. This is about audience development and is a vitally important part of your business.</p>
<p>An authority blogger needs an audience. Start with 7 building up to 700, focus on 7000 and build an audience of 70,000</p>
<p><strong>It starts with that first person! </strong></p>
<p>Without a list you really do not have a business.  I remember watching Criminal Minds not too long ago about a woman who was a high class hooker and she had sold her &#8220;list&#8221; of clients for millions. She told them &#8220;<em>every hooker knows the value in having a list &#8211; it is their retirement fund!</em>&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>If high class hookers know it then as an authority blogger shouldn&#8217;t you! <img src='http://www.mindsetofablogger.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /><br />

<p>What can you do with your own list?</p>
<p>Well to begin with you can tell them about your next offline or online event &#8211; rather than chase around for an audience your list becomes your audience.</p>
<p>You can promote your latest product or a product as an affiliate &#8211; a list of 1,000 people, one email, one push of a button and a 15% take up of people buying a $97 product that you get 50% commission on &#8211; you do the math!</p>
<p>Your blog IS NOT your business! Always remember that your blog is your vehicle. Your list and it&#8217;s response to what you have to say is your real business because if no one responds and/or buys anything you are not in business!</p>
<p>With all this talk of making money I want to stress one important thing that you will definitely have understood by now if you have been reading parts of this blog.  Authority blogging is about providing value, expertise and knowledge first and money second &#8211; always &#8211; no exceptions!</p>

<p><strong>Understand you are giving people want they want and helping them </strong></p>
<p>&#8220;<em>I hate when people ask me to give my name and email address to download something!</em>&#8221; &#8211; that&#8217;s a statement people have said to me who want to be bloggers! I told them get over it or get out of the business.  Remember we are <strong>Authority Bloggers</strong> not spammers &#8211; what we are giving away is high quality, high value information &#8211; not some reused, rehashed stuff that makes no sense!</p>
<p>This is as bad as someone who wants to be an affiliate marketer but doesn&#8217;t like it when someone sends them an affiliate link&#8230;..!!!!!</p>
<p>You can not succeed at something you have limits/blocks around so if you really do hate signing up for stuff and yet you want people to sign up for your stuff you need to focus on what WILL make you sign up to receive information or what has in the past and create your signup in that way.</p>
<p>Do you value your content? If you do why wouldn&#8217;t you want to shout to the heavens and tell everyone about it?</p>
<p>All you are doing is asking people to stay in touch with you so you can give them great information about what you know. <strong>Why would someone not want to stick around for that???</strong></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Another bunch of days together but this time it is because these days are very intensive and will need more thought that I can give to it in just one day.</p>
<p>I have been checking my traffic stats and the blog traffic is growing, which is great, even though I haven&#8217;t implemented everything that has been covered and really did the bare minimum. So here we have it, <a href="https://www.e-junkie.com/ecom/gb.php?ii=258839&amp;c=ib&amp;aff=101516&amp;cl=11220">31 days to build a better blog days 23-27</a></p>
<p><strong>Day 23</strong> &#8211; still thinking about what to do with that day so far!</p>
<p><strong>Day 24</strong> &#8211; you can get ideas about content creation for your blog from all kinds of different places and on this day we learn how to use a magazine for inspiration.</p>
<p><strong>Day 25</strong> &#8211; Don&#8217;t you think questions are great? Today was all about how to use great questions to get people talking on your blog. Do you think I ask enough questions to engage you all in conversation?</p>
<p><strong>Day 26 </strong>- I went through and helped a friend with her blog and gave her some pointers on how to improve the content so that she attracted attention and bought in more traffic.</p>
<p><strong>Day 27</strong> &#8211; Great resources to help find dead links on your blog. The search engines hate it when a link brings up a 404 error and sometimes if you have linked to blog posts, or even links inside your own blog &#8211; if they end up as dead links it affects your ranking. This day was all about keeping an eye out for dead links.  I have always found this site great for that <a href="http://validator.w3.org/checklink">http://validator.w3.org/checklink</a></p>
<p>As we head towards the end of 31 days to build a better blog the &#8220;things to do&#8221; on my list get bigger and it takes longer but I guess if they are going to bring in more traffic then its worth doing. Right?</p>

<p>I thought I would complete a few days worth and link to everything I have done because there just wasn&#8217;t enough to write about them separately.</p>
<p>Day 19 I had to write a post that gave my opinion on something &#8211; <a href="http://www.mindsetofablogger.com/strategy-planning/blog-keywords/importance-of-keywords-to-help-you-make-money-blogging">the importance of keywords </a>- okay I didn&#8217;t strictly write it on day 19 but it is a great example!</p>
<p>Day 20 focused on blog commenting and I went round and did that most of the day</p>
<p>Day 21 was all about breathing life into an old blog post &#8211; so I updated a blog post that focuses on <a href="http://www.mindsetofablogger.com/strategy-planning/traffic-generation-tips/12-free-and-low-cost-traffic-generation-tips-for-bloggers">12 free and low cost ways to generate traffic</a></p>
<p>Day 22 I had to pay special attention to a reader and that is where I stopped off because I have been busy creating blogging case studies!</p>

I am going to create a number of pages that will point to the different areas you interesting around how to blog and how to make money blogging so anyone interested will be able to gain access to them.</p>
<p>It will focus on some of the things a person looking at becoming a professional blogger would focus on</p>
<ul>
<li>mindset</li>
<li>list building</li>
<li>traffic generation</li>
<li>Search engine optimization (SEO)</li>
</ul>
<p>And create blog posts/pages that point to the posts. I will arrange it under the <a href="http://www.mindsetofablogger.com/how-to-blog/how-to-blog-so-you-make-money-blogging-day-1">how to blog </a>series</p>

<p>Today 31 days to build a better blog Day 16 is all about solving your problems. Do you have any particular questions about blogs and/or blogging?</p>
<p>This blog aims to solve the problem of helping people who are not making money with their blog by refocusing them on some of the important aspects of blogging that non money bloggers forget about like keyword research, and having a system in place that will help you manage writing content, getting traffic and all the other things we need to focus on.</p>
<p>That is the aim of this blog and that is the problem it aims to solve. What problem does your blog solve?</p>

<p>John covers how he generates over 50 comments per blog post – which for those of us who receive one or two would be a great thing to have happen! Of course I was going to read it. I definitely don&#8217;t agree with his first suggestion because it is just a little desperate to have to go round doing something like but some of the other stuff he included is useful to read. Give me an empty blog with only one or two comments any day over someone who has to fake it!</p>

<p>I guess you will be able to tell if it works by the number of comments I will get! I don’t actually approve a lot of them – I trash them because I prefer my comments to contribute to the discussion. Those “your blog is great I have book marked it” comments that people use just to get a link don’t flatter me&#8230;. anymore!!!</p>
<p>Plus you do lose &#8220;Google link love&#8221; if you link to someone who is considered spammy</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Here we are on day 14 of 31 days to build a better blog and today I updated a page on my blog that was in desperate need of updating. It focuses on how to <a href="http://www.mindsetofablogger.com/become-a-professional-blogger">make money blogging by becoming a professional blogger</a> and is now update and looking good!</p>
<p>It is important to keep all your blog pages fresh and up to date, the simple act of updating them also alerts the search engines that fresh content has been added and you appear in the search engines again. It is also something you can do if you have a website &#8211; just update the content and save it so you the search engine spiders visit your website.</p>
<p><strong>Day 15 is all about getting</strong> a blog buddy to write with me on this blog which for me is not relevant right now so the next day I will focus on is Day 13</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>After spending time creating content ideas in day 11 &#8211; 31 days to build a better blog day 12 is about creating a table so that I know exactly when my content will be delivered to you. I like the idea of having everything planned because once you spend time thinking about ideas and then plan out when you will write that particular idea as a blog post you never have to wonder what you are going to write about.</p>
<p>If you have a launch of a product or service coming up (like I have) it is also a great way to plan out content that will lead up to the launch so I can keep readers of that blog focused on the fact that it is happening.</p>
<p><strong>Day 13 is all about going offline </strong>to where my readers hang out but as my blog is about blogging and online that isn&#8217;t applicable so I will move on to day 14</p>
