These are desperate times that require desperate measures. That is
why our churches have joined with the Awakening America Alliance and
several thousand other believers to call for a solemn 21-day fast that
runs from January 7-27. The following is a copy from Lee Grady's Fire
in My Bones.

Here’s a list of the things we are praying for during the three week fast:

1. The fear of God. Holiness was so tangible among
early Christians that false prophets were blinded and greedy liars fell
over dead. As a result of God’s judgment on Ananias and Sapphira,
“great fear came over the whole church” (Acts 5:11, NASB).

Where is this sense of “shock and awe” today? How can Christians be
so cavalier about divorce or so flippant about adultery? How can
television preachers sleep at night after robbing God’s people with
manipulative fundraising appeals?

We celebrate His mercy but ignore His severity. We need a
thunderclap from heaven and a display of Elijah’s fire to remind a
wayward church that God will not be mocked.

2. Integrity and purity in the church. Our movement
hit rock-bottom in October when charismatic pastor Donnie Earl Paulk of
Atlanta announced to his stunned congregation that a DNA test had
proved he is not the nephew of Bishop Earl Paulk but is in fact his
son. That such unspeakable depravity was permitted to thrive for
decades at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit is an indictment against
the elder Paulk and all leaders who refused to challenge his behavior
when they first learned about it years ago.

This and other recent religious scandals have so tarnished our
credibility that we have become a curious freak show. Many unbelievers
now associate ministers with wife-swapping, wife-beating, no-fault
divorce, gay affairs and $10,000-a-night hotel rooms. We need a Holy
Ghost housecleaning.

3. A return to evangelism. In the 1970s we were less
sophisticated but so much more zealous for Jesus. We handed out tracts
and witnessed to everyone. Sharing our faith was the priority. Yet most
people in churches today have never led anyone to Christ.

We are no longer contagious. Spirit-filled believers spend more time
chasing “financial breakthroughs” than lost souls. We have rejected
sacrifice and compassion and embraced a counterfeit gospel that
produces bored, selfish spectators.

4. Godly leadership. As we head into an election
season it’s obvious that our nation is facing a leadership crisis. But
this leadership vacuum is not just in the political arena. Many of our
spiritual fathers have disappointed us, either by their own moral
failures or by their refusal to confront sin.

I pray that God does not give us the president we deserve in 2008.
If we cry out for mercy, perhaps He will upset the current slate of
candidates and put someone in the White House who can model Christian
integrity. May He also give us spiritual shepherds who care more for
the flock than for the crowd’s applause.

5. A national spiritual awakening. There were seasons
in America’s past when sinners became so convicted of their sins that
they collapsed under the weight of their guilt. During the days of
revivalists George Whitefield and Charles Finney, huge waves of
conversions led to a widespread transformation of society. Drunks
became sober, prison inmates sang hymns, stingy business owners stopped
oppressing their workers, atheists surrendered their unbelief and
rebellious children returned to faith.

Can such a movement happen again? It must or our country will
descend into its darkest hour. I urge you to join me in this solemn
fast. Pray with desperation for the five topics outlined here. We can’t
settle for anything less than a heavenly visitation.

The last few days have been almost incredible. After spending an
exhausting no-sleep overnight flight on a Delta 767 we finally landed
at the Frankfurt airport only to hit the ground running, literally. Not
even taking time to freshen up we scooted through customs ignoring how
sleepy we were just in time to hop on an ICE, (Inner City Express)
train to Hamburg.

My first 300km per hour ride on steel all without the help of a trusty Starbucks coffee. No way Superman is stopping this thing!

We arrived in Hamburg about three hours later and stepped into one
of the most beautiful cities in the world rich with history and
significance. Words cannot describe what we saw and felt. Along with
the beauty of the city there is a heaviness, a darkness that is sensed
throughout Germany. A knowing that revival is imminent. It has to be,
or we may all perish.

Germany is fast becoming a major seat for Islam.

We visited the apartment where Mohammed Atta and the other pilots
planned the 911 attacks on the United States. It was sobering, to say
the least to be in the same neighborhood where the largest attack to
ever happen by an outside force on US soil, but to stand in front of
the very house where it was articulately planned as well. The sadness
we felt cannot be described. Not since I visited Ground Zero have I
felt so small and disturbed.

Germany is rich with spiritual heritage and significance and I
believe plays a major part in the end times prophetically. For example,
since WWII there are twice as many Jews who have moved to Germany than
there have been to Israel. Many believers in Germany believe another
Reformation is coming to their country which will ultimately cause many
of these precious Jewish people to come to Christ.

A Reformation they say that will also affect the whole world. As he
world needed Luther, Bonhoeffer, and Bonnke, we need German believers
to take their place in the Great Harvest.

After viewing several blogs from some of the most innovative church
planters in our country I find myself both amazed at some of the
outright God-ordained innovation, yet appalled at some of the arrogance
some of these guys are flaunting. Why does it seem to be the norm that
church leaders feel the need to compete with one another, and when God
does give a person new revelation on how to "do" church all of a sudden
everyone else is wrong except them.

We can't judge someone "religious" just because they disagree, or do
things differently. Come on guys, really, its not an us verses them
thing.

I recently heard one of the icons for this church planting movement
say that he did not like Christians. So, are we to think that either he
is not a Christian, or he does not like himself? What would happen if
some one in his church were to become born-again? Do they have to
automatically leave? Poor fella!

I wonder if Jesus likes Christians?

I believe in being innovative for the sake in drawing people to
Jesus, not just to be innovative so that we can brag about how we are
so much better than other churches. I also believe the Church should
strive to be relevant, but relevancy is not a doctrine from scriptures.
It seems that this movement is a regurgitation of several movements
before who, with the same elite mentality act like they are the only
ones who are right. This is so sad too. Those of us in the church
planting vein have so much to offer.

I believe this current church planting movement was started by God,
but just like other movements that were started by Him, man somehow
finds his way to the front. We must get out of the way with our
arrogance and obnoxious behavior towards those who are different, and
allow God to do what in this movement exactly what He wants to do. As
always, we are to reflect His Glory to those dying in their sins.

Jesus is the Head of the Church. As His workers, we are supposed to
be planting life-giving churches that bring peace, life and rejoicing
to a city. We are to reach all classes of people, the poor, the rich,
the educated and the uneducated, young, old and alike. All people.

See you at one of our services this weekend.

I can hardly believe it, but we have already had our second official service at the Journey Church of Adairsville and we are averaging 150 people already. In Adairsville. Yes, Adairsville, population of around 3000. It has been awesome too. Yea, we had and still have some bugs to work out, but God is certainly showing up and great things are happening. I thank all of you who are working so hard to make this church a reality. Thank you for bring a spirit of excellence o this ministry.

The church in Seymour TN. (outside Knoxville) is off to a fast start too! They have went from 14 to 52 in seven weeks! Praise the Lord. Oh yea, Cornerstone Church of Rome is growing as well with nearly 650 adults and several children and youth. God is blessing this network of churches.

Look for new churches to be planted in the future in Cartersville, Acworth, Kennesaw and Dalton.

One of the things that we are most excited about is the development of our leadership pipeline. Right now, Journey Churches can help anyone become a church planter, entrepreneur, ministry leader, or even a better parent.

All I can say is wow. This past Sunday evening we had our initial set up at the Adairsville High School and 60 people showed up to help. 60! It's crazy! Who has a leadership team of 60 people? We managed to work through several sound issues as the 40 channel board we donated to the school gave us some issues at first, but we got it all resolved.

Our first mailer went out Friday and we are praying real hard about that first Sunday coming up in 2 weeks now. It's kinda scary, and we are hoping for a good turnout to our first Sunday of Journey Church of Adairsville. Adairsville. Just saying the name seems so odd that anyone would plant a church there. I mean what are there, 2600 people total? Why not Jacksonville, or Atlanta? I am positive that this will be one of those things whereby God will be able to show out!

Some of the behind the scenes things that we are doing is a lot of guerrilla marketing through recruiting as many ministry partners as possible to hand out flyers, put up posters, do radio PSA's, and just talk to as many people as possible. We also are using these folks to help us do our marketing campaign PRINTWORKS. 706.234.1800 They are Outstanding! We used them for the logos, tee-shirts, mail-outs, brochures, envelopes, letter-head, etc. They even designed our CCOR web site. www.ccoronline.org You might want to check them out. Ask for Tasha and she will direct you to the right person.

Call Ellison Enterprises for banners, and magnetic signs, at 706.290.0171

One thing that has been the biggest help to us is the Marketing/Media team we put together last year to prepare us for this. For more information on this, or on the Team Model call us at 706.234.4923

We are planning a Church Planting Conference for April 2008. Email us here if you are interested.

I guess a better question would be what in the Church? I read an article the other day written by J. Lee Grady, editor of Charisma Magazine. To be honest, it made me sick while I was reading it. Oh, don't get me wrong, we have known this kind of stuff is going on in ministry for a while, but it has become so blatant.

You can go to the Charisma News article (The Deadly Virus of Celebrity Christianity) Go to the 07/27/07 article to read it, or I have copied and pasted the article to this page. (The Deadly Virus of Celebrity Christianity)

Come on now.

Aren't we Charismatics, Word of Faith, Non-denominational, and Pentecostals having enough of an uphill climb without shooting ourselves in the foot, or really shooting both legs out from under neath us?

I applaud you Lee Grady for your forthrightness in what you are doing. I do however, wish you would name names. This kind of stuff will not stop unless we leaders in the Charismatic realm, (I am getting to where I do not want to call myself this anymore for the pure shame of it) take a stand against this open behavior in a very open manner.

When I was in Bible College our leader, who was before his death one of the most influential Charismatics leaders ever, always told us to watch out for what he called the three G's.

The Girls

The Gold

The Glory

Advice well taken and much needed for today.

D. Michael Abrashoff former Navel Captain and management guru wrote in his book It's Your Ship
that we should view our organization through the eyes of the people
that we serve. As a church we serve the dis-connected of our community.
"Who are the dis-connected?" you might ask. They are the neighbors we
do not know, the people sitting next to us in restaurants, and the
co-workers who are mere acquaintances. Basically, the dis-connected are
those who have never had a relationship with Jesus or have been to
church and tried it, but for some reason they are dis-connected from
God's best and His intentions for them.

Each believer must see his or her role on this planet as a ministry
in reaching others for Christ. For example, my church is my ministry,
your church is your ministry, and our church is our ministry. This is
the reason we must view our church as the vehicle that God will use in
doing His work on the earth.

We must Pray daily for our church....

We must Partner with and serve in our church....

We must be generous and bring our Provision to our church....

In the body of Christ, especially in the United States, many
believers view the church as an organization built to serve their every
whim, and pastors are only there to meet their needs. Nothing could be
further from God's intentions for His church.

The Church of the Lord Jesus is supposed to be a thriving, living,
reproducing organism broad in her mission and organic in her approach.
This means we are to have a world view when it comes to understanding
our responsibility as we simultaneously view the person next door as
our personal mission in fulfilling the commands of our Lord.

Think about it. The very word partnership itself helps us begin to
understand that two is better than one. And when we all partner
together for one common goal…Well, can you say exponential?! When God
gives birth to a ministry or church, it is because He is already
calling people to partner with it. Our role is to partner in giving,
going, and praying. Anything less is just not good enough. Some people
believe that God wants only 10% of all that we have, yet nothing could
be farther from the truth. God wants each part of us. He wants His
people to understand that becoming a Christian is not intended to be a
part-time religious experience but an everyday, moment by moment walk
in a relationship with Him. So when it comes to giving of our money,
time, and resources, praying for the lost in other countries, or even
going across the street to help a neighbor, there are no days off.

I look to the day when every single believer in every single church
takes the Great Comission seriously enough to facilitate a life of
Prayer....Partnership....and bringing Provision....

Let's make history together!

It is almost mind boggling at how much information is available for ministers nowadays about how to grow their church/ministry. Click here if you doubt what you read, or just google the words "church growth". I promise there will be way to many books, and way to many results for anyone to read in an entire lifetime. It's true, the information age is upon us.

Although a lot of this information we are getting through the books, conferences, and surfing the web is good, I think sometimes we are settling for good when God has the best waiting for us.

I am referring to the move of God's Spirit in our services. Don't take me wrong, we absolutely need the Word, and we need good discipleship, and we need to be relevant, however, in the name of trying to be relevant have we made relevancy a new doctrine and missed allowing God to work something tremendous in the heart of the people?

We ministers are to be ministers to the people with both the Word, and the Spirit. We do not have the luxury or the right to pick and choose. Jesus, (our boss) remember? He still wants to help people by saving them, praise God for Salvation. However, Salvation is not just going to heaven one day. As great as that is and if that was all He had for us it would be good enough. But, there is more.

Jesus has provided healing for our PHYSICAL bodies, peace to our mind and emotions, deliverance from demonic forces, and prosperity for the whole man. We ministers cannot help people with God's best with our 20 minute timed messages, 3 points, an illustration, and a song. We have to allow God's Spirit the freedom to move in the people's life.

When Jesus was on the earth He did three things while ministering. The Bible said that He preached, He taught, and He healed. Every Sunday, every minister has people come into their church that need to be preached to, taught, and yes healed. Let's stop settling for good, when Jesus has the best things for us.

___More to come....
