Yahoo Has Confirmed That Hackers Had Stolen Around 4,00,000 Account Credentials From Its Computer System

In a statement to technology blogTechCrunch on Thursday, Yahoo said that "approximately 4,00,000 Yahoo! and other company users' names and passwords" were stolen July 11, reported Xinhua.

The company said it is fixing the vulnerability that led to the theft, changing passwords of affected users and notifying the companies whose user accounts may have been compromised. But it did not reveal the exact number of the compromised accounts or identify those other companies affected.

Late on Wednesday, a hacking group known as D33Ds Company posted 453,492 account credentials in plain text on a public website, claiming that it did so as a "wake-up call" rather than a threat to Yahoo.

"There have been many security holes exploited in web servers belonging to Yahoo! Inc. that have caused far greater damage than our disclosure. Please do not take them lightly," said the group at the end of the post.

D33Ds added that some sensitive information they had got was not posted to avoid further damage.

Security firm TrustedSec said the hacked service may be Yahoo Voices, a Yahoo division focusing on online publishing which was formerly called Associated Content.

"The most alarming part to the entire story was the fact that the passwords were stored completely unencrypted," said TrustedSec in its blog.

World’s First Flying Car Takes Its First Test Flight

A production-type prototype of the world’s first flying car took its first test flight over Plattsburgh, N.Y.
Terrafugia, makers of Transition, has released video of the test flight.
The flight was the first successful test of the two-seat personal aircraft that you can park in your garage, drive on the road and fill up at a gas station.

“This is a very exciting time for Terrafugia. We are on our way up -- literally and figuratively!” the LA Times quoted Carl Dietrich, the company's CEO and CTO, as saying.

Company officials said the Transition reached an altitude of 1,400 feet during its first test flight, and spent a total of eight minutes in the air.

In the video, Terrafugia’s chief test pilot, Phil Meteer, is seen pulling the Transition out of a garage, driving it around a suburban neighbourhood and then filling it up with fuel from a regular gas station.

When he gets to an airport, the car/plane’s wings automatically unfold. When the 'transition' is complete, Meteer completes a pre-flight check and then takes to the skies.

“It’s a remarkable vehicle both on the road and now in the air,” said Meteer in a statement.

“When I drove it into the shop, literally from the road through the garage door, I was amazed that I had just flown it in Plattsburgh a few days before,” he stated.

There are still six more phases of flight testing planned, but a spokesperson for Terrafugia said the company is still on track to deliver the plane by late 2012.

Anyone with a driver’s license can drive the Transition on the road, but potential pilots will need a light-sports-aircraft license.

The Transition has a 23-gallon gas tank. It gets about 35 mpg on the road and burns about five gallons of gas per hour when it is at cruising speed in the air.

Terrafugia said it has already received about 100 orders for the Transition.

Free Apps May Be Behind Short Battery Life Of Cell Phones

Paid applications may probably help your mobile phone battery last longer as almost 75 percent of the energy consumed by free versions of apps is exhausted serving up ads or tracking and uploading user information, a new study including Indian origin researcher has revealed.

According to Abhinav Pathak, a computer scientist at Purdue University, Indiana, and colleagues, running only one Android app could eat up your battery in nearly 90 minutes.
The researchers came up with the finding after developing software to analyse apps’ energy usage.

When they assessed popular apps like Angry Birds, Free Chess and NYTimes they discovered that just 10 to 30 per cent of the energy was used powering the app’s core function.

For instance, in Angry Birds only 20 per cent is used to display and run the game, while 45 per cent is spent finding and uploading the user’s location with GPS then downloading location-appropriate ads over a 3G connection, the New Scientist reported.

The 3G connection stays active for about 10 seconds, even if data transmission is complete, and this ‘tail energy’ drains additional 28 per cent of the app’s energy.

Pathak insists the energy leakage on inefficiencies in the third-party code that developers use to generate profit on free apps is responsible for the superfluous battery consumption.

FACEBOOK Plans To Create New Search Engine

Social networking giant Facebook is reportedly planning to create a new search engine which would help people to navigate on the website better.
A Bloomberg Businessweek report said the firm has deployed two-dozen Facebook engineers onto the ambitious project, which aims to improve the search engine currently available on the social network.

According to the report, the project is led by former Google engineer Lars Rasmussen.

The magazine’s unnamed sources said that the project is “to help users better sift through the volume of content that members create on the site, such as status updates, and the articles, videos, and other information across the Web that people 'like' using Facebook’s omnipresent thumbs-up button”.

According to The Telegraph, Facebook has done very little to improve its search engine, which currently lets people find other users, brands, status updates and some wider web results, through a long-standing partnership with Microsoft’s search engine, Bing.

It has yet to properly focus its attention on the small search engine box situated at the top of each users’ page.

Meanwhile, Facebook has declined to comment on the matter.

Cuba To Test New AIDS Vaccine On Humans

Cuba's top biotech teams have successfully tested a new AIDS vaccine on mice, and are ready to soon begin human testing, a leading researcher told a biotechnology conference in Havana.

"The new AIDS trial vaccine already was tested successfully (on mice) and now we are preparing a very small, tightly controlled phase one clinical trial with HIV-positive patients who are not in the advanced stages of disease," researcher Enrique Iglesias said on Monday.

Iglesias, who heads up the vaccine development team at the Biotech and Genetic Engineering Center (CIGB) here, was speaking at the International Biotech Conference-Havana 2012, which started yesterday in Cuba's capital.
He told the crowd at the convention center that the vaccine TERAVAC-HIV-1 was made from recombinant proteins aiming 'to cause a cellular response against the (HIV) virus'. While upbeat, the Cuban expert was quick to downplay high hopes for a long-awaited successful AIDS vaccine.
"So far, there have been more than 100 clinical tests (on humans) with HIV" in Cuba and other countries, "and all of them have failed," he stressed.
Cuba, the Americas' only one-party Communist-ruled state, spends more than USD 200 million a year on its AIDS prevention and care programs, including free care with antiretrovirals, some of them Cuban-made.

The CIGB, which groups about 20 research units on Havana's leafy western end, is the engine behind a major Cuban export: biotech products including vaccines and other drugs. The Caribbean country exports USD 400 million a year in these products, making them its official number-two export after nickel.
Some 600 scientists from about 38 countries are taking part in the event including Nobel-winning US chemist Peter Agre, also a medical doctor and molecular biologist.

Charge Your Mobile Phone With Your Breath

Researchers have come up with a new device that could breathe new life into your mobile phone by using air from your lungs to charge it.
The kit, dubbed the AIRE mask, harnesses the wind power generated by breathing and converts it into electricity to run anything ranging from an iPod to a mobile.
The electronic mask consists tiny wind turbines and the energy created is transferred through a cable to the electronic device.

Inventor Joco Paulo Lammoglia, from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, revealed that the device could be used in all situations from running to sleeping.
“I hope to bring the concept into production and reduce the carbon footprint,” the Daily Mail quoted him as saying.
“It can be used indoors or outdoors, while you’re sleeping, walking, running or even reading a book. Besides saving energy and helping environmental preservation, it also encourages physical exercise.
“Its energy is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Though many of our modern gadgets offer benefits, they tend to use a high amount of electrical energy. Harnessing energy from human activities and transforming it into electricity is possible and is a great solution,” Lammoglia added.

HISTORY OF COMPUTER DATA STORAGE A STAGE BY STAGE PICTORIAL PRESENTATION

From the beginning of mankind, man tried to find a way to store information for the following generations. When people nowadays hear the word storage or computer storage they normally think aboutCD Rom, USB key or DVD. Things like the floppy disk or the punch card are nearly forgotten. In fact, the history of information storage goes back to pre-historic times where mankind used red and yellow ochre, hematite, manganese oxide and charcoal to paint information about their life on rock walls, caves and ceilings.

Nowadays we are used to having hundreds of gigabytes of storage capacity in our computers. Even tiny MP3 players and other handheld devices usually have several gigabytes of storage. This was pure science fiction only a few decades ago. For example, the first hard disk drive to have gigabyte capacity was as big as a refrigerator, and that was in 1980. Not so long ago!

Pingdom stores a lot of monitoring data every single day, and considering how much we take today’s storage capacity for granted, it’s interesting to look back and get things in perspective.

Here is a look back at some interesting storage devices from the early computer era.

The Selectron tube
The Selectron tube had a capacity of 256 to 4096 bits (32 to 512 bytes). The 4096-bit Selectron was 10 inches long and 3 inches wide. Originally developed in 1946, the memory storage device proved expensive and suffered from production problems, so it never became a success.

Punch cards
Early computers often used punch cards for input both of programs and data. Punch cards were in common use until the mid-1970s. It should be noted that the use of punch cards predates computers. They were used as early as 1725 in the textile industry (for controlling mechanized textile looms).

Same as with punch cards, punched tape was originally pioneered by the textile industry for use with mechanized looms. For computers, punch tape could be used for data input but also as a medium to output data. Each row on the tape represented one character.

Magnetic drum memory

Invented all the way back in 1932 (in Austria), it was widely used in the 1950s and 60s as the main working memory of computers. In the mid-1950s, magnetic drum memory had a capacity of around 10 kB.

The hard disk drive
The first hard disk drive was the IBM Model 350 Disk File that came with the IBM 305 RAMAC computer in 1956. It had 50 24-inch discs with a total storage capacity of 5 million characters (just under 5 MB).

The first hard drive to have more than 1 GB in capacity was the IBM 3380 in 1980 (it could store 2.52 GB). It was the size of a refrigerator, weighed 550 pounds (250 kg), and the price when it was introduced ranged from $81,000 to $142,400.

The Laserdisc
We mention it here mainly because it was the precursor to the CD-ROM and other optical storage solutions. It was mainly used for movies. The first commercially available laserdisc system was available on the market late in 1978 (then called Laser Videodisc and the more funkily branded DiscoVision) and were 11.81 inches (30 cm) in diameter. The discs could have up to 60 minutes of audio/video on each side. The first laserdiscs had entirely analog content. The basic technology behind laserdiscs was invented all the way back in 1958.

The floppy disc

The diskette, or floppy disk (named so because they were flexible), was invented by IBM and in common use from the mid-1970s to the late 1990s. The first floppy disks were 8 inches, and later in came 5.25 and 3.5-inch formats. The first floppy disk, introduced in 1971, had a capacity of 79.7 kB, and was read-only. A read-write version came a year later.

Magnetic tape
Magnetic tape was first used for data storage in 1951. The tape device was called UNISERVO and was the main I/O device on the UNIVAC I computer. The effective transfer rate for the UNISERVO was about 7,200 characters per second. The tapes were metal and 1200 feet long (365 meters) and therefore very heavy.

The New iPAD 3 Features And Specifications:Everything You Should Know

Apple wrapped up its press conference detailing what we thought would be called the iPad 3. The new tablet is the same size and shape as its predecessors, but changes a lot of things under the hood. For quick information on the new tablet, check out our news recap. But if you have a bit of time, we’ve compiled a more comprehensive list of things you should know about Apple’s next hot device.

The best display ever on a mobile device.
Everything you do with iPad, you do through its large, beautiful display. And when the display is better, the entire iPad experience is better. The Retina display on the new iPad features a 2048-by-1536 resolution, 44 percent greater color saturation, and an astounding 3.1 million pixels — in the same 9.7-inch space. That’s four times the number of pixels in iPad 2 and a million more than an HDTV.

Those pixels are so close together, your eyes can’t discern individual ones at a normal viewing distance. When you can’t see the pixels, you see the whole picture. Or article. Or game. In ways you never could before.

iSight for all
The name is cheesy, but if you compare the new iPad camera to that of the iPad 2, it looks like it will be an entirely new experience. The iPad 2 had a cheap and crappy camera, but Apple has integrated what appears to be the same rear camera as the iPhone 4S (and it’s nice) into its new tablet. It can take photos at 5 megapixels, record video at 1080p and has other standard features like autofocus and tap to focus. Unfortunately, there is no flash and the front-facing camera is still VGA (640×480 pixels), meaning Apple isn’t making many upgrades to enhance FaceTime.

The iPhone 4S camera is probably the best smartphone camera around, which is why this announcement is particularly exciting. Combined with the high resolution of the new iPad’s screen, this camera could do some cool things. To celebrate, Apple is releasing a few new apps as well.

iOS 5.1

If you own an iPhone 4S, you’ve used iOS 5.1. In this update, Apple added support for iCloud, which syncs up your files and backs them up remotely as well as a number of other enhancements like an app notification tray (a la Android) and other small enhancements like Twitter integration, AirPlay mirroring, and iMessage.

iPhoto joins iMovie, iWork, and GarageBand

Apple has developed a new app called iPhoto, designed to work in conjunction with the new iSight camera on the iPad. This app allows users to edit their photos, and easily tweak color, exposure, and contrast among other things. You can also use your fingers like “brushes” and adjust small details of your photos, then share them straight to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, or iCloud. AirPlay Beaming is also supported. iPhoto will cost $5 and will be available soon.Updated versions of iMovie, iWork, and GarageBand will be released with a few new features each.

It’s got the 4Gs

Wi-Fi is great and 3G does the job, but if you want a fast connection anywhere, 4G LTE is the best option (assuming it’s in your area, of course). The new iPad will have models starting at $630 that support 4G LTE on both Verizon and AT&T. Unfortunately, when you purchase a new iPad, you will have to specify whether you want an AT&T or Verizon model. Because the two carriers use different LTE bands (technical jargon you don’t really need to know), you won’t be able to switch from AT&T to Verizon. Your iPad will be locked in. A cheaper Wi-Fi model will also be available, as usual.

Battery life: 10 hours
Previous iPads have had 10 hour battery life (9 hours on 3G), and Apple is maintaining that standard on the new iPad, despite its battery draining high-resolution screen, quad-core processor, and 4G LTE connectivity. This is possible because the battery is a bit larger, pushing the thickness of the new iPad from 8.8mm to 9.4mm. We welcome the girth and doubt most users will notice much difference.

New iPad, same price
The new iPad is also maintaining the same $500 – $830 pricing scheme that all previous models have adhered to. If you want a 16GB Wi-Fi-only iPad, it will cost $500; 32GB will run you $600; 64GB will run you $700; and if you want 4G LTE, add $130 to the price. For those seeking a discount, we suggest checking out the iPad 2.

iPad 2 now $400
As it has done with some iPhone models, Apple will continue to sell the iPad 2 Wi-Fi and 3G models for a discounted $400. It may be just clearing out inventory or it may plan to sell the old iPad for a longer duration of time, possibly to combat cheap Android tablets. We aren’t sure. If you don’t care as much about screen resolution, cool games, photo editing, 4G LTE, or taking fancy pictures, then the iPad 2 may be a good option for you.

The iPhone has looked exactly the same since it was released in 2007. In smartphone world, 5 years is a very long time to go by, without a major design overhaul. Though there are millions of iPhone purists who will still want the iPhone 5 to look like the iPhone 4S, we also think that there will be millions of others who share the same sentiments as us in terms of expecting an iPhone that has a completely new form factorThe iPhone 5 might not be arriving any time soon, but that hasn’t stopped artists and design firms from creating their own mock-ups.

After analyzing the various iPhone 5 rumors, Italian designer Federico Ciccarese came up with these gorgeous renders.
Ciccarese’s vision of the iPhone 5 predicts a slightly curved back. The body of the phone, in fact, looks similar to Apple’s Magic Mouse. The display is flat and “retina” in nature and the phone tapers off at the top and bottom.

The headphone jack has moved to the side to accommodate the new design and the back looks to be blasted aluminum, similar to what is used on the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and iMac.

This isn’t the first time Ciccarese has mocked up his own version of future Apple products. In addition to previously trying to design the fifth-generation iPhone (what would become the iPhone 4S), Ciccarese has also taken on concepts such as the iScreen, his vision of the rumored integrated television from Apple.
We love the way the mockup details the glowing Apple on the back of the phone. It’s the sort of design touch that we think Jony Ive and company could even appreciate.

Most people waiting on the iPhone 5, probably including yourself, have already decided that the iPhone 5 is going to be released in the summer of 2012, which is just a few months away. However, those people should understand that the iPad 3 is long overdue, which will of course mean that the iPad will come ahead of the iPhone 5.

Some people are saying or maybe just expecting that Apple will release both the iPhone 5 and the iPad 3 at the same time.

That is just a ridiculous claim

as there is no way Apple is going to release two really high profile products on the same day.

The reason of course is that the average customer will usually be willing to spend about $300 – $600 on one premium Apple product, not two at the same time.

If the iPhone 5 release date is not going to be in the coming summer months, it will of course mean that it can only get postponed to October or September of 2012. There is even that small but slight chance that the iPhone 5 will only be released in 2013! That would however probably not go down very well with the waiting public, we would think.

Analysts who follow the Apple stock are saying that it would be financially very wise for Apple to release the next iPhone at the end of 2012, as opposed to the summer months, as a year end release would mean brisk holiday sales. No gadget sells more during the holidays than the iPod or the iPhone. The iPod is well past its glory days which means that the iPhone’s release date could officially get bumped to the fall dates, like how it did with the iPhone 4S.

When the iPhone 5 is released, whatever date it may be on, it is expected to have 4G LTE speeds, an improved 10-13 MP camera, a dual core or quad core processor, at least 1GB of RAM and an enlarged battery as well.

This is a real story of a young college girl who
passed away last month
in Chandigarh . Her name was Priya. She was hit by a
truck.

She is working in a call centre. She has a boy friend
named Shankar .
Both of them are true lovers. They always hang on the
phone.You can
never see her without her handphone. In fact she
also changed her phone
from Airtel to vodafone, so both of them can be on the
same network, and save on the cost.

She spends half of the day talking with shankar .
Priya's family knows about their relationship. Shankar

is very close with Priya's family. (just imagine their
love) . Before she passed away shealways told her
friends "If I pass away please burn me with my
handphone" she also said the same thing to her
parents.

After her death, people cudnt carry her body, I was
there. A lot of
them tried to do so but still cant , everybody
including me, had tried to carry the body, the result

who know to one of their neighbours, who can speak
with the soul of dead person, who is a friend of her
father.

We amazed by the regular appearance of certain black and white photos in my feed, which claim to be of historic events or personalities. None of these photos are authentic. Surprisingly, the people who share them around don't even bother to verify their authenticity.

The above pictures are popular in facebook about a month in facebook.Too many of users share this kind of

pictures and too many think that this are real life incidents and this can be taken as an example for social media drawbacks.

Last but not the least - the "Dancing Gandhi". I'm not sure, how many of us know this?
This supposed image of Gandhi dancing with some white woman travelled from hate groups

(Anti-Gandhi to Anti-India) with comments about 'Mastikhor Ayyash Gandhi' to liberal groups with 'O! he could dance!' remarks.

The basically ended up going viral. If it managed to reach my high wall, it must be really viral, that's my rule.
It took me one google image search query to find that the image is actually of an Australian artist impersonating Gandhi for some charity event held in Sydney for India back in those days.

India prays for Yuvraj Singh,Doctors see quick recovery

India's World Cup star Yuvraj Singh will recover from a cancerous tumour, his doctor said on Monday, as politicians, sports officials and his teammates rallied around the ailing all-rounder.
Yuvraj is undergoing chemotherapy treatment in the United States for a rare condition, mediastinal seminoma, a malignant tumour located between his lungs.

Nitesh Rohatgi, a senior Delhi-based oncologist who has been treating the 30-year-old cricketer, said he was confident Yuvraj will recover from the disease.
"It is curable with the help of therapy and will not hinder Yuvraj's career in the long-term," Rohatgi, a consultant of medical oncology at a New Delhi hospital, told reporters.

Yuvraj will start the third week of a nine-week chemotherapy treatment in the United States on Wednesday and will be able to do light training as he improves, the doctor said.
Support for Yuvraj, who was named the man of the tournament after India's World Cup triumph in April last year, poured in from team-mates, officials and politicians across the country.

Left-handed Yuvraj played a key role in India's World Cup triumph last April, scoring 362 runs and taking 15 wickets with his spin bowling to win with the player-of-the-tournament award.
But his family said in November that the all-rounder had been battling a golf ball-sized non-malignant lung tumour which first affected him during the tournament.
Yuvraj, who has not played competitive cricket since taking part in two of three home Tests against the West Indies in November, has so far scored 8,051 runs in 274 one-dayers and 1,775 runs in 37 Tests.

Application To Update Facebook After Your Death

London: Social network Facebook has launched a new application through which a user can post one last message on his 'wall' after his death. But there is a catch -- three 'trustees' have to confirm the person is actually dead.

The free application is called 'If I Die', the Daily Mail reported.

It, however, has no option to automatically post a person's 'last words'. An user has to appoint three trustees from the friends list, who will be messaged when the user dies.

Only when the three friends confirm the death, will the final message be posted.

The application has been made by an Israeli startup company.

Facebook already offers a 'memorial' service. Once it is confirmed someone has died, a memorial page is created, which only friends can see.

New Liquid-Cooled LED as bright as 100W bulb

London: A new line of liquid-cooled LED bulbs will deliver better and last longer than their incandescent cousins, using just a fraction of the energy required to emit brightness of a 100W bulb.

The revolutionary design, developed by a Californian-based firm, Switch, was showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. 'It uses 80 percent less energy than an incandescent bulb,' said Brett Sharenow, strategy officer for the company.

The LED light bulbs are presently available only for the US 120-volt system, but the company plans to release versions of the bulbs for use in Brittain and Europe by 2012-end.

Can block websites like China, Delhi High Court warns Facebook, Google

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday warned social networking site Facebook India and search engine Google India that websites can be 'blocked' like in China if they fail to devise a mechanism to check and remove objectionable material from their web pages.
'Like China, we will block all such websites,' Justice Suresh Kait said while asking counsel for Facebook and Google India to develop a mechanism to keep a check and remove 'offensive and objectionable' material from their web pages.
Justice Kait, who did not stay the proceedings against the two websites before magistrate's court, however, agreed with the plea of lawyers that they would not press for an effective hearing in the trial court on Friday.

Former Additional Solicitor General Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Google India, said the postings of 'obscene, objectionable and defamatory' articles and other things cannot be 'filtered' or 'monitored'.

'No human interference is possible, and moreover, it can't be feasible to check such incidents. Billions of people across the globe, post their articles on the website. Yes, they may be defamatory, obscene but cannot be checked,' he said.

Rohatgi tried to distinguish between Google India and its US-based holding company Google Inc. 'The US-based Google Inc is the service provider and not me (Google India) and hence, we are not liable for the action of my holding company. Moreover, it is criminal case where a vicarious liability can be fastened on a company which has no role, whatsoever, in the alleged offence.'

Citing provisions of the Information Technology Act, the counsel for Google India said the websites are protected by the law in respect of such 'objectionable' material so far as
they are not the authors.

The websites may lose the legal protection if they either modify or monitor the article or comments or fail to deal with the complaints of an affected person or the government on such
issues.

Advocate Siddharth Luthra, appearing for Facebook India, questioned the authenticity of the documents provided by the complainant to the magisterial court. 'We do not know as to when, how and from where, the documents came into being. They are not the documents as per the provisions of the Evidence Act,' he said.

He also said the social networking site cannot be held accountable for the acts of the third parties.

The court fixed the case for hearing on January 16.

A Google spokesperson said, 'We did file a petition before the Delhi High Court. The Court has now issued a notice to the petitioner. We can't comment further at this stage.'

Earlier, the trial court had summoned the representatives of 21 social networking sites, including those of Facebook, Microsoft, Google, Yahoo and Youtube after taking cognisance
of a private criminal complaint against the websites. It had also directed the Centre to take 'immediate appropriate steps' and also file a report on January 13.

Taking note of Vinay Rai's complaint, the court had held that the accused websites connived with each other and various unknown persons and are selling, publicly exhibiting and have put into circulation 'obscene, lascivious content.' The websites have been booked under section 292 (sale of obscene books etc), 293 (sale of obscene objects to young person etc) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.
