Hey y'all.

Here in the Eastern Time Zone, it's already Thanksgiving. I'm up late, obviously, and had a few random thoughts to jot down:

I've been glued to the Gone With The Wind marathon all day. It simply never gets old. Ever. I always see something new when I watch this film; today, I was blown away by Ashley's overwheling narcissism. And Melly's devotion to Rhett. Thoughts?

It's odd. I'm not a huge country music fan. Well, I love "old country" -- Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Keith Whitley, my hometown boy Dwight Yoakam -- but I'm not much on the "tight pants and cowboy hats" sound. But, I loved the two years that my beau and I lived in Nashville. There was such an interesting kinship with the music industry.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/MintJulepsAndMagnolias/~4/q5J0oZczWtg" height="1" width="1"/>

So...

So, here's the thing...

When I was in graduate school, I was utterly afloat, rudderless, and all of those terrible feelings that often accompany one's early twenties. I was a hot mess of professional, personal, and existential crises. On October 2, 1998, I came home for the weekend to visit some family and attend a local fall festival. And, I fell in love.

So, I hate Facebook just as much as you do. I promise you that. But, this morning, I actually had a cool experience with the FB -- one that almost made up for a self-absorbed sorority sister's recent Facebook message which proved that neither motherhood nor the decade since undergrad have changed her perspective. This morning, I checked my feed as I read all of my normal "morning websites."<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/MintJulepsAndMagnolias/~4/ZH-4GwsQXJ4" height="1" width="1"/>

Stressed.

Y'all. I am stressed. Like, unbelievably so. The past 36 hours have really hit me with some hard news. So, instead of putting on my big girl pants and dealing with it all, I'm indulging in a few minutes' social media escape, courtesy of Pinterest.

Several years ago, I read an interview with Ashley Judd in which she described the unique egotism of actors. She stressed that, in order to get a role, actors think nothing of claiming that they can ride a horse, sing, or any other complex activity. Then, they figure, it can't be that hard to learn. Now, my opinion of Ms. Judd is complex, to say the least. Anybody who loves the UK <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/MintJulepsAndMagnolias/~4/0eF3gXt4c6w" height="1" width="1"/>

Blatant Self-Promotion and Cross-Posting...

Whatever you hear, I'm not a stalker. Via Elle Decor.

Today on Her Kentucky, I discuss Lexington's unique, horsey aesthetic. And explain how I'm totally not stalking Badgley Mischka at their nearby farmhouse.

And, over on The Kentucky Girls, I point out a few lessons that UK football fans could learn from sorority girls and cheerleaders.

Remember two or three years ago, when everyone was jumping on the Wellies bandwagon? I was living in Nashville at the time, and picked up a couple of pairs. I found hot pink ones at J. Crew, and a pair of black Hunters at Dillard's. I assumed that they'd be cute to pair with jeans or leggings on rainy days, but would ultimately be one of those fun-yet-optional purchases.

Louisville's Highlands neighborhood is a fun, eclectic area. It's a great mix of professionals, artsy-types and students. You often see Chanel bag-toting trophy wives seated one table over from tattooed hipsters, with <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/MintJulepsAndMagnolias/~4/6StLmDrLY6M" height="1" width="1"/>
