My niece finished her paint chip art and liked it so much she made more. I think they are great. I can't wait to see them hanging in her room.

She made this using paint chips from Home Depot and 12x 12 canvas and rubber cement. This was her first time using rubber cement. I thought that was funny, cause when I was in Kindergarten and 1st grade this was the type of glue we used in class. It has an awful smell and is probably not that great to inhale. My point, is things have changed a bit in 35 years.

Oh My Bucket List- Hot Air Ballon Ride

One of my friends took these awesome photos of herself in Turkey on her Birthday riding a balloon last year. I thought to myself, I want to go and do that.

Then I saw this photo of the Marimekko Balloon at Balloon Fiesta in New Mexico. I am so there this year. Come October me and the family will be watching this view. I'm so excited.

Paint Chip Art Framed and Hung

I finally got around to framing and hanging my newest art project. I hung it up in the dinning room and love the change.

A simple Ikea frame.

Here's its new home. I've had a sunburst mirror in the same spot for 10 years. Change is good. The kids pointed out that the art looks like a bunch of M's like our last name. I thought it kinda looks like mountains. I also see arrows. It kind of changes depending on how close you are to it.

Wreath switch a roo

A lot of of my art projects sort of evolve. Like this here wreath. Over the last year it has had a few different transformations.


I made this last year, and took it apart around Halloween and added spiders all over it.

I didn't want to use glue, so I just kind of woven the little legs around the yarn. By the time Halloween got here, the spiders had mostly fallen off.

Here's the latest incarnation, a pretty girlie version. I used fabric scrapes strips of sparkly cupcake fabric and pinned them on. Then, I made little tulle flowers and pinned those on too. The wreath is going to our friends house for a for a camping themed slumber party.

New Bedding

It takes me a long time to finsh up design projects at home. I think about everything for a long time and make sure I make the right purchases. Back in September we painted and redid my 8 year olds bedroom. Here it is:

We have everything done except the bedding. I finally picked here up a duvet insert and we picked out this lovely cover from Urban Outfitters on sale to boot! The room is primarily blue but has green and lavender accents too. The big floral of the duvet will pull the whole thing together. I can wait till it gets here.

I also purchased this cover for the master bedroom. We've had a lovely white cover that folds over the end of the bed which I love, but this one will be add to the rotation now too. I also found this one was on sale too!

Paint Chip Art-sneak peak

My niece and her friends came over to do a little crafting Friday. I had over a week to prep, but waited to the last minute to come up with a project. We ended up doing paint chip art. I went to Pinterest and found lots of inspiration. We didn't quite finish, but I thought I'd show you what we've done so far.

This is mine. I decided to go with the triangles. This took me hours. I found this to be like a big math problem. I made the pattern up in my head and didn't get my groove until after I did the first 8 stripes.

The is my niece's, she's going with a cool ombre pattern.


Here, she's almost done. I'd like to make one just like this using metallic.

The is our friends, she was going for a breaking wave. Can you see it? After she was done we realized we needed to use rubber cement instead of Mod Podge. She's going to add a layer or two of a glaze on hers so it looks more finished.

The is our other friends, she is really a great artist and went for a cool pattern using half circles.

The almost finished wave, the only problem is all the messy glue.

I worked on this till I couldn't sit anymore and went back to work on it a few hours later, sometimes it's nice to walk away and come back with a fresh perspective.

This is my daughters, I love it!!!!!

Now I need to get some rubber cement and glue mine to a poster board. I'll post the finished piece soon.

Joshua Tree 2011

I just love that feeling when things all work out and you're able to achieve something you've wanted to do for a while. It's been 2 years since we're made it to Joshua Tree for some camping and family memory making. We lucked out and got an awesome site in White Tank. We spent 4 wonderful days bouldering over the beautifully sculpted rocks. We even climbed a mountain on New Years Day. Here are a few photos of the scenery.

Here's all of the candy and sweets we collected from the Holidays. I love the gingerbread couple the kiddies decorated. Since we took this pic I'm sad to say, Mr. Gingerbread is leg and headless. We also managed to eat all four cupcakes. It looks like I'm going to have to add a few extra workouts in over the next few weeks to help me deal with all this candy. I have a major sweet tooth, and find these all too temping. How do you cope with all the Holiday goodies?

It's been a great week!

I managed to stay on top of all my loose ends, with a huge list. As the week went along I kept adding to the list. One last minute addition was to come up with a white elephant gift for a party on Friday night and I was at a loss. My husband headed over to Home Depot and brought me back a toilet seat to do something funny with it. I'm seriously not that funny. So I thought maybe a little sparkle on a toilet seat would be funny. Well, it was funny and kinda pretty too. One of the party guests really loved it and we had tears being shed over this beauty.

Here it is up close.

I used an old shirt we had in the Goodwill box and cut it to fit on the top of the seat cover. I glued the shirt on with Mod Podge and let it dry. Then, I added a row of pennies a long the edge for some added sparkle. Next up, I glued on a bunch of butterflies cut from some scrapbooking paper. It didn't quite look right, so I added two rows of green sequined ribbon to outline the pennies. To give the toilet seat a lacquered look, I added a thick coat of Mod Podge the night before the party, and you can see from the photos that some of the glue still needed to dry clear. I'm so glad someone had such a nice reaction to my art. The family that took home this beauty are planning on hanging it on the wall.

Party Time

One of my best friends celebrated a certain milestone recently. She planned her dream day, skiing in the morning, the afternoon getting pampered at the spa, a special dinner, ending it all with dancing and charades. The night will be one I'll never forgot, good times with great people.

I spent the week before the party getting my craft on. It was so much fun getting back into my craft supplies. I made a fun birthday banner (which I didn't photograph) fringed over 1000 feet of crepe paper streamers like these, cut out a bunch of table confetti using paint chips, made a fun cake topper inspired by this and made a bunch of photo-booth props via Oh happy day.

I covered the tables with a great red and white stripe fabric from Ikea. I sprinkled fabric with 2" round discs cut from paint chips.

The party wasn't complete until we hung the disco ball.

Votives made the table sparkle!

The cake was adorned with a homemade topper.

We set up a photo booth. Here's me and and my sweetie.

Caterpillar Time!

Last week I spent some nice time at our local Butterfly Park with my daughter. We found all kinds of beautiful monarchs caterpillers livin' it up on all the milk weed. Here's some of what we found.

Craft 52 week 49: Happy Birthday Garland

Lately I absolutely suck at blogging. I've been making stuff and not photographing the final project. I made this awesome Happy Birthday Garland and totally forgot to take a picture of the completed project. So this is all you get. Let me tell you it turned out super pretty. I used gold 2" rounds for the centers and glued these silver glittered letters on top. Fun project, didn't take too much time either. I can't wait to make another one.

My weekend in Arrowhead

We spent the last few days of our vacation in our local mountains. The weather was crisp and clear. Lake Arrowhead is always beautiful.

We watched Santa arrive and light the tree in the Village.

The mommies snuck away to enjoy some tasty 'tinis.

Enjoyed the local trail.

Stomped on many fallen leaves.

Finally saw some fall colors.

The kids used leaves to make art.

Enjoyed the moment.

I must say spending time at the lake is always a good time. We are so thankful to have such great friends whom share their vacation home with us from time to time. Making family memories is what it is all about!

Oh My: New Glitter Shoes

I did a little retail therapy today. It's funny how a little thing like glitter shoes can lift my spirits. I've been on a shopping hiatus for a while now and it was so much fun to splurge on these sparkly beauties. They look way better in person BTW. I was going to glitter a pair myself, but this was way easier. These shoes will be on my feet all season. I can't wait to dance and celebrate in them! I was happy to also finally fit into my pre babies shoe size. Gosh, that only took me almost 9 years. All my Zumba dancing shrunk my feet.

Crayon Art

I made this last week with my daughter. Super easy and fun too!

I saw this idea over at Pinterest and thought it would be a great way to use up some crayons from our ever growing stash.

We just hot glued all the crayons to a blank canvas. Then took a blow dryer and started on one end and slowly moved across to the other end.

this is a little messy, so please do this outdoors.

I'm going to frame this in either a Lucite shadow box or an all white deep frame from Ikea.

Dig In #2

We held our annual Dig In at the school garden last weekend. It was so great the have so many people on hand to get the garden ready for the school year. Things we got accomplished: spread 4 c/y of mulch on the ground, filled raised beds with 5 c/y of soil, trimmed trees, built a garden planter for the butterfly garden, and we even started a garden path. I can't wait to see how this year turns out! Many Thanks to all the families who came out to help!!!!!

Halloween Photo Station

The PTA is hosting their annual Gala next week and they needed some help making the backdrop for the photo station. I used a voting booth (3 sided folded piece of cardboard) and covered it with purple butcher paper. Using some good paper scissors, I cut out a silhouette of a house, the moon, the land and a little owl. After I arranged them to my liking, I used spray mount glue to adhere the cut paper to the purple background.

Here's the voting booth and the butcher paper. I used duck tape to stick the paper on. The packing tape I used the night before didn't work at all and I had the re tape the thing.

Here's the pieces of paper mid project. On the right you can see the graphics from the event that I used as my inspiration.

Here's the finished project. I hope they like it!

The sky was breathtaking Friday night. The whole was house was illuminated in tangerine/gold light. The kids and I ran outside to check it out, the sky was amazing.

We got out our Fall holiday decorations last weekend. The bats flying on the wall is a new installation. I hope the bats stick on the wall until Halloween.

Here's the mantle. I love how I can sit on the sofa and see the bats in the mirror.

Crystal candlesticks topped off with mini pumpkins.
