The proceeds will go to help abused and neglected animals.

The event is a presentation of the Strathcona All-Breed Horse Association and will feature several equestrian competitions, such as halter, western, jumping and costume class. In addition, there will be a stick horse making workshop and an obstacle course for kids.

Families at the event will be encouraged to get involved in a scavenger hunt and a World of Horses presentation, featuring a game of polocrosse and a parade of breeds. Also on display during the showcase will a photo exhibit titled ‘Celebrate Strathcona: 120 Years of Horses in the County’.

Admission to the Showcase is free but guests are asked to donate empty bottles and cans to the ‘Trailer of Hope’. All donations will go to the Rescue 100 Foundation.

The Showcase is expected to be a fun weekend event for those who love or care for horses in Strathcona County. No doubt the horse show will be widely advertised in the Sherwood Park area. Organizers are expected to make the most of help from local printing firms, which offer services such as poster printing and flyer printing. The end-products can then either be displayed throughout the community or sent out via direct mail.

The Horse Showcase 2013 will take place at the Strathcona Olympiette Centre on May 25 and 26. Those who require more information can call 780-446-9932.

Now that spring has arrived, many people in Canada are excited to get outside and enjoy all the community has to offer. Two festivals in early June are set to give residents of Hamilton an excuse to enjoy the outdoors.

The Concession Street Festival will be hosted by the Hamilton B.I.A. and the Concession Street Shopping District. There will be plenty of activities at this family-friendly festival, including music and dance performances, sidewalk sales, open restaurant patios and children’s activities such as a petting zoo, face painting and inflatables. There will also be craft and food vendors on site.

Craft vendors will be able to rent a 10×10 space for $75; food vendors will pay $300. Sponsorships are also available for Hamilton and area businesses. The organizers will probably be working with local printing companies to help recognize those sponsors on banners or signs during the festival.

The Dundas International Buskerfest is presented by the Downtown Dundas Shopping District. It will feature three days of street entertainment, food, crafts, and commercial vendors. Craft vendors and commercial vendors can rent space at the festival for $200 and $300.

Both events should make for a pleasant way to spend a day with the family.

The 17th annual Concession Street Fair will take place on June 1 from 11:00am – 6:00pm. For more information, call 905-388-5482.

The Dundas International Buskerfest will take place in downtown Dundas from June 7 – 9. Those looking for more information can call 905-628-3217.

A public meeting was held recently to update citizens of the Whitby area about the Port Whitby Secondary Plan. It involved consultants and members of the planning and Alliance team.

The area’s population is expected to increase by as many as 10,000 over the next 20 years. In order to accommodate this jump in population, there will have to be changes made in road and traffic patterns, the number of residences available for ownership and rent, and also the number of employment opportunities. Feedback was being sought from the public about what the expansion to the neighborhood should look like.

Whatever changes take place, it’s important that the principles of sustainable development are applied to the plans; this includes enhancements to the current GO commuter transit station.

The Port Whitby Secondary plan will build upon the improvements that have already been put into place during previous years. One of these was the Sustainable Community plan, which was initiated last summer.

Once concern that has been raised by the local residents is that there are enough employment opportunities to support an influx of people, and this is definitely being taken into account. Part of the plan includes an improvement in access to the increasing number of office jobs available in the surrounding areas. This is part of the rationale for the enhancements to the Whitby GO station.

It is expected that this growth in the number of businesses will lead to a rise in the need for companies which provide services such as business card printing , food services, and office cleaning.

It should appeal to those who consider themselves to be foodies and those who just love to eat.

In addition to enjoying samples of some of the finest food and drink in the city, guests will be treated to musical and art performances, raffles, and a silent auction. Proceeds from the event will go to Art for All, which provides art classes and camps to less-fortunate children in the area.

Oakville Taste will be a great opportunity for the general public to discover a new restaurant or a new caterer in the area. It will also be a good way for those in the food industry who are just starting out to be able to share their food.

Sponsors will also be hosting display booths or providing interactive demonstrations. It’s very likely that some of those sponsors will be working with Oakville printing companies to make the booths more appealing. This could involve investing in colorful banners or signs to attract more attention.

The 4th annual Oakville Taste event will take place at the Oakville Galleries in Gairloch Gardens on Sunday from 3:00 – 7:00pm. Tickets are $85 for adults, $30 for children and $650 for parties of 10.

Many people today are concerned about the state of the environment and believe that education is the key to preserving nature. Two events coming up at the Waterloo Region Museum should go a long way in educating the public about local environmental challenges.

The 18th annual Waterloo Wellington Children’s Groundwater Festival is aimed at those in grades 2 through 5; school groups are especially welcome to attend. This week-long festival will show the importance of water and how to preserve it. There will be demonstrations, interactive activities and environmental displays.

Ecofest will take place for one day in June. This year’s theme is ‘Reduce your footprint … one step at a time’. There will be plenty of children’s activities, live birds of prey from Wild Ontario, door prizes, music by the Junkyard Symphony and the ‘marketplace of ideas’.

The marketplace will showcase companies which are dedicated to providing environmentally friendly products and non-profit organizations which will provide information on their roles in educating the public about the environment.

Both of these events are likely to draw visitors from all over the Waterloo Region, including Kitchener.
The Waterloo Wellington Children’s Groundwater Festival will take place from May 27 – May 31. Admission is $6.50 for children and free for adult supervisors; pre-registration is required. For more information call 519-748-1914.

Ecofest will take place on June 1 from 9:30am- 4:30pm. Admission is free. Those who require more information can contact Susie Steenson at 519-883-5100 x8449.

It is hoped that, with more understanding, the area’s young people will be in the position to make better choices when it comes to meal times.

School children from all across the region are finding out that the food on their plate doesn’t simply show up at their local store or restaurant. Through the Learn, Eat and Grow program, Sandra Sampson is helping them to appreciate the food they eat and to make good snack and meal choices both now and throughout the rest of their lives.

The program goes into schools and facilitates assemblies where the students are taught with material that has been geared towards children in their particular age range. They learn where their food comes from, how farms and market gardens work, how food processing takes place and the value of making eating choices that involve whole foods and nutritious meals.

Part of the Learn, Eat and Grow program involves helping children decide how to make decisions that will lead to a healthier lifestyle for years to come. Games and colorful hand-out materials produced by local print companies help make the assemblies fun; so much so that the kids often don’t even realize they are learning valuable lessons. The pupils are even taught something about growing their own food, and are often very surprised at just how much work goes into producing what they eat.

Now that the weather has warmed up, many people are ready to get outside again and start walking. Those who like to walk can take part in two events during the same weekend in June, both raising funds for two very important charities.

The Walk for ALS in Ontario is a 5K ramble. It will help to fund research and promote awareness of this terrible disease; all money raised stays in Ontario. In addition to the walk, the day will feature raffles, a bake sale, a fish pond, and food for purchase. Those who raise a minimum of $100 in pledges will receive a t-shirt.

The Gutsy Walk for Crohn’s and Colitis is taking place in over 70 locations nationwide. After the walk, participants can enjoy food, refreshments and entertainment. Participants who raise at least $100 will get an event t-shirt.

In both of these events, participants solicit pledges from friends, family and co-workers. It’s likely that Timmins printing companies have been called upon to provide such items as pledge forms and the printed t-shirts.

The Walk for ALS in Ontario will take place at Gilles Lake Conservation Area on June 8 from 10:00am – 1:00pm. Those who wish to take part or need more information can call Shelley Thomas or Tara Baptist at 705-365-0457.

The Gutsy Walk for Crohn’s and Colitis is taking place at Mountjoy Historical Conservation Area on June 9 from 11:00am – 2:00pm. For more information, call Courtney Taylor at 1-800-387-1479 x239.

There will be many aerial displays over the two days, with groups such as the Canadian Forces Snowbirds taking part. Other displays will involve wing walkers and a jet car.

Guests will have the chance to meet the pilots, see some historic planes and get autographs.
The Arts, Culture and Heritage Open House is taking place later this month. It is a presentation of the City of Langley’s Recreation, Culture and Public Art Advisory Committee and will showcase a variety of non-profit organizations who are dedicated to art, culture and area history. It will also feature arts and crafts vendors and live entertainment throughout the afternoon.

In June, Art in the Vines, presented by Township7, will showcase more than 50 of the area’s artisans, who will be selling their work. It will also present local musical performers, allow guests to enjoy some wine samples, and will hold a barbeque to raise money for a local charity.

Organizers of both of these events are likely to be working with Langley printing companies to prepare. This might involve designing and printing flyers or booklets to help publicize each event, or banners to help decorate the venue and bring more attention to specific areas.

The Arts, Culture and Heritage Open House will take place at Douglas Park on May 25 from 1:00 – 4:00pm. Admission is free. For more information, contact the committee at 604-514-2865.
