The place is called Rafaelle's and it has super yummy dishes and modern decor, nicer than the average pizza restaurant. I found out about it on Tik Tok and it is worth the hype! You can even choose 2 different toppings for the same pizza if you're having trouble to decide -like we did!

Ergon Agora especially the one in east Thessaloniki is one of my favourite places and we go there often to grab a bite. If you go, you have to try the cheesecake, it's amazing and you can choose one off the menu or make your own combinations. I have been obsessed with this cheesecake this year! It's the highlight of the meal, because I love dessert and because why not. I have tried several and they were all delicious. I won't stop until I try them all!!! This time it was pistachio crumble with lemon cream and strawberry jam! Yes, it's worth every calorie!

The weather is finally starting to be a bit more 'wintery' but it is still definitely great for this time of year. Today was cloudy but not too gloomy, so it was the perfect day to go to Chortiatis and Aelios Petra, a stone-built chateau-like cafe/restaurant. The view is magnificent and you can go for coffee or a meal or even drinks.

We went there for a meal and were not disappointed, we loved the food and ambience of the place.

In the mood for Christmas

December is here and Christmas will be here before we know it, it's less than twenty days away!

I usually start decorating for Christmas really late, a week or 3-4 days before Christmas, but this year I decided I am going to decorate as soon as December comes! I already bought some new ornaments the previous week, all in tune with last year's theme which was mostly pink and rose or rose gold.

And...I have already put them on the tree! Yay!

Now, let's hope I put the rest of the baubles on the tree soon before my procrastination takes over and I end up finishing the decorations right before Christmas!

What about you? Do you decorate for Christmas early or at the last minute? Do you just decorate the tree or the whole house?

Sunday Brunch: Exereton (Thermi) honest review

if you haven't tried the sweets from this place, you are certainly missing out. We buy them pretty often and they are divine every single time. We have also been there a few times for drinks and brunch but to tell you the truth there are better places for brunch in our town. Lately, it's been on my list of must-visit places again, because of the room with the fireplace and all the Christmas lights. It looks very festive and cozy! I think it is definitely worth at least one visit. You might want to make a reservation before you go, especially if it's during the weekend. Now, during our last visit, which was today actually, things didn't go very smoothly, and had I not been there before, I would not be willing to give it another chance. If this had been my first impression of the place, I would have been very disappointed indeed. First of all, the waitress dropped the spoon of one of the coffees on my son and spilled juice on his hands and sweater as well. She did say sorry but didn't even bother to bring a napkin. Then, they brought me the wrong coffee, and they were confused because they didn't seem to know what a latte macchiato is. The waiter said it didn't exist (!), rather than saying they don't know what it is or even they don't serve it! Either would be fine! I explained it is warm milk with a shot of espresso and I have had this numerous times in countless venues! Then, they took ages bringing it, even though they did bring a weak version of a latte macchiato finally, in the wrong glass. Maybe they were trying to google what it was, or enquiring among the stuff to see if anyone knew what it was, who knows!?! When the food came, I knew everything would be better, lol! We ordered a deconstructed 'bougatsa' which they assemble in front of you, and even though it is not very photogenic it tastes lovely! yum! And a french toast 'tsoureki', which was nice, but they make it a lot better in a place very near this one!!! All in all, it was a mediocre experience but maybe it was just one of these days where things don't go perfectly! It is still my favourite shop to get excellent quality desserts and they also gave sugar-free sweets and ice cream, which you HAVE TO try if you haven't already.

Winter is coming! In the mood for glühwein and Christmas decorations!

Less than 10 days ago was like summer, with 24 degrees and we were wearing t-shirts so I thought we might celebrate an 'Australian' Christmas as far as the weather is concerned. But the temperature dropped abruptly and it's officially sweater weather! So, it seems winter is coming! (any Game of Thrones fans out there? lol)

Since it's cold and I am getting in the mood for Christmas, I decided to decorate early this year, maybe even today, or in the next days. Preferably I want to have the Christmas tree ready by December 1st, and while this may not be early for some people, it is definitely early for me, because I always decorate at the last minute!!

My Christmas mood was reflected in my choice of drink as well! I ordered some glühwein, and while it was mulled and smelled divine it didn't taste as it should! Or as I remembered it from other times! Isn't this supposed to taste sweet? Please enlighten me if you know more on the subject! I ended up not drinking it, so there goes my Christmas spirit, ha! At least, lunch was decent!

Lipstick Love: Christian Dior 'Forever' Nude Look 100

This is the new transfer-proof lipstick by Christian Dior. I meant to go to the store to get a close look at the colours but because I'm impatient and it was a Sunday when I finally made up my mind that I was going to buy it, I ordered this colour online and hoped for the best!

It is a great nude colour! I usually go for slightly more pinkish tones, but I love it! It stays put for hours and keeps its promise. I am one of those women who never touch up their make up during the day so by the time I return home, my lipstick has disappeared! Well, this one is still on my lips! I might have to buy it in more colours! What is your favourite lipstick at the moment?

Hi all, yesterday was a glorious sunny Saturday so my family and I went for a bit of shopping but we left quickly because it was incredibly crowded. I wasn't expecting it because it was a long weekend and I thought most people would be out of town. Anyway, we stopped to one of my favourite cafe restaurants before heading home for another amazing lunch. Yummy!

Near Thessaloniki : 'Etsi Apla' Lagadas

Not far from Thessaloniki is the small town of Lagadas, where we went to a place called Έτσι Απλά (Just like that) for a casual family lunch. It's kid-friendly and has cute vintage decor. The food was rather ordinary and nothing spectacular, but the place had a cosy feeling and it was a perfect sunny day so all in all it was a positive experience. I had to be in the town of Lagadas because of work and went there to eat before returning to Thessaloniki. If I drove there from Thessaloniki just to go to the restaurant, I must say I would probably be disappointed. It's not worth the drive but it's an ok place if you find yourself in this town.

Pink Halloween

Today was a hard day at work so in an effort to cheer myself up I went for a drink and a bit of shopping. I think it worked! Yay! Instead of the usual dose of caffeine, I opted for a virgin mojito. The day probably called for alcohol but I rarely drink any more, so it is mostly mocktails for me. Do you go out when you have a hard day or do you want to go home and crawl into bed?

Αν κι εσύ δεν ξέρεις πώς να φροντίσεις το νέο σου φίκο robusta, μην ανησυχείς, έψαξα εγώ για σένα. Ακολούθησε αυτές τις οδηγίες και το φυτό σου θα κοσμεί για χρόνια το χώρο που επέλεξες.

Στον φίκο αρέσει το έντονο φως αλλά τα πηγαίνει καλά και σε συνθήκες χαμηλότερου φωτισμού. Αποφύγετε να τον εκθέσετε άμεσα στις ακτίνες του ήλιου γιατί θα αυτό θα "κάψει" τα φύλλα του. Το ιδανικό μέρος είναι κοντά σε ένα παράθυρο ή μπαλκονόπορτα με διάφανες κουρτίνες.

Ποτίστε τον όταν το χώμα αρχίζει να ξηραίνεται στο πάνω μέρος. Στο φυτό σας αρέσει η υγρασία στο χώμα, αλλά αποφύγετε το υπερβολικό πότισμα γιατί θα αρχίσουν να πέφτουν τα φύλλα του. Μπορείτε επίσης να ψεκάσετε τα φύλλα του για έξτρα υγρασία.

Όσο για το κλάδεμα, δεν χρειάζονται και πολλά. Αφαιρέστε τα νεκρά φύλλα και κόψτε το πάνω μέρος μόνο όταν το φυτό σας φτάσει στο ύψος που επιθυμείτε. Αν κόψετε το πάνω μέρος θα σταματήσει να ψηλώνει και θα πετάξει νέα κλαδιά στο πλάι.

You can do your grocery shopping, drink coffee, have meals, enjoy ice-cream or desserts. It has got a great outdoors area with food vans, bar and lounge chairs. I really like the feel of the place and find the food amazing. Take a look at some of the photos from the last time we were there.

American style cheesecake

Αυτό ήταν το πρώτο μου cheesecake σε αμερικάνικο στυλ και παρότι είχα τις αμφιβολίες μου, τελικά βγήκε πολύ ωραίο! Έχει υπέροχη υφή και γεύση! Τα τελευταία χρόνια κάνω κυρίως συνταγές του ´Ακη Πετρετζίκη γιατί τα έχει όλα αναλυτικά και αν ακολουθήσεις τις οδηγίες, πετυχαίνουν ΠΑΝΤΑ! Αν θελεις μια γρήγορη συνταγή για cheesecake, δεν είναι αυτή! Είναι σχετικά χρονοβόρα αλλά πίστεψε με, αξίζει τον κόπο!!

Τούρτα σοκολάτα - construction cake

Για το παντεσπάνι

Προθερμαίνουμε τον φούρνο στους 180° C στον αέρα.
Σε ένα μπολ, προσθέτουμε το κακάο, το βραστό νερό και ανακατεύουμε με το σύρμα μέχρι να δέσει το μείγμα. Αφήνουμε στην άκρη να κρυώσει.
Στον κάδο του μίξερ προσθέτουμε το βούτυρο, τη ζάχαρη και χτυπάμε με το φτερό, για τουλάχιστον 5 λεπτά, μέχρι να αφρατέψει το μείγμα.
Έχουμε ήδη σε ένα μπολ το αλεύρι και προσθέτουμε τη σόδα, το αλάτι και ανακατεύουμε.
Με το που αφρατέψει το μείγμα στον κάδο, προσθέτουμε ένα ένα τα αυγά και το εκχύλισμα βανίλιας. (θέλουμε να χτυπηθούν καλά η ζάχαρη με τα αυγά)
Όταν γίνουν ένα ομοιογενές μείγμα, προσθέτουμε το μείγμα κακάο-νερό στον κάδο και χτυπάμε σε χαμηλή ταχύτητα μέχρι να ομογενοποιηθούν.
Αφαιρούμε από τον κάδο και με ένα κουτάλι, παίρνουμε ότι έχει κολλήσει από το μείγμα στα τοιχώματα και ανακατεύουμε καλά.
Ρίχνουμε το ξινόγαλο και ανακατεύουμε.
Ρίχνουμε και το μείγμα αλευριού και ανακατεύουμε με απαλές κινήσεις.
Σε δύο στρογγυλές φόρμες διαμέτρου 22 εκ. βάζουμε μέσα 2 βουτυρωμένες λαδόκολλες σε στρογγυλό σχήμα ώστε να καλύπτουν τον πάτο.
Μοιράζουμε το μείγμα στις φόρμες και ψήνουμε στον φούρνο, για 35-40 λεπτά (σε περίπτωση που δεν έχουμε 2 φόρμες, ψήνουμε πρώτα τη μισή γέμιση και μετά την άλλη μισή) και όταν τα βγάλουμε από τον φούρνο τα αφήνουμε πάνω σε μία σχάρα για να κρυώσουν για περίπου 20 λεπτά.
Για το γλάσο
- Προσθέτουμε στον κάδο του μίξερ το βούτυρο, τη ζάχαρη άχνη, το κακάο και 2 κ.σ από τη συνολική κρέμα γάλακτος και ανακατεύουμε με το φτερό σε χαμηλή ταχύτητα.

Στη συνέχεια προσθέτουμε σταδιακά όλη την κρέμα γάλακτος, το εκχύλισμα βανίλιας, δυναμώνουμε την ταχύτητα στον κάδο και χτυπάμε για 2 λεπτά μέχρι να πάρουμε ένα ωραίο και ανάλαφρο φρόστινγκ.

Για τη συναρμολόγηση

Κόβουμε ένα φύλλο λαδόκολας σε 3 λωρίδες και τις τοποθετούμε σε μία τουρτιέρα σε σχήμα τριγώνου. (με αυτόν τον τρόπο κρατάμε καθαρή την τουρτιέρα μας)
Παίρνουμε το ένα παντεσπάνι και το τοποθετούμε πάνω από τις λαδόκολλες, με την πιο ίσια και λεία επιφάνεια να κοιτάει προς τα πάνω.
Ρίχνουμε το 1/3 από το γλάσο μας και απλώνουμε να πάει παντού.
Από πάνω, απλώνουμε και 50 γρ. σοκολάτα κουβερτούρα λιωμένη να πάει παντού.
Προσθέτουμε από πάνω το 2ο παντεσπάνι, σκεπάζουμε όλη την τούρτα με το υπόλοιπο γλάσο, δίνοντάς της σχήμα.
αφαιρούμε τις λαδόκολλες.

* αν χρησιμοποιησετε μεγαλυτερο τσερκι οπως εγω, καλο ειναι να κανετε μεγαλυτερη δοση για το γλασο

Κέικ με ανανά και καρύδα

Κεικ με ανανα και καρυδα απο τον, σωστα μαντεψες, Ακη Πετρετζικη! Η οπως το λεει ο ιδιος, πειρατικο κεικ!

100 γρ. βούτυρο μαλακό
120 γρ. καστανή ζάχαρη
3 αυγά
200 γρ. στραγγιστό γιαούρτι
200 γρ. αλεύρι που φουσκώνει μόνο του
2 βανίλιες σκόνη ή 1 κ.γ. εκχύλισμα βανίλιας
1 πρέζα αλάτι
1 κ.γ. τζίντζερ, τριμμένο
1/2 κ.γ. κανέλα
120 γρ. καρύδα, τριμμένη
200 γρ. ανανά κονσέρβα σε κομμάτια 1 εκ. και έξτρα φέτες για σερβίρισμα
Προθερμαίνουμε τον φούρνο στους 180ο C στον αέρα.
Χτυπάμε το βούτυρο με τη ζάχαρη στο μίξερ με το σύρμα να αφρατέψουν για τουλάχιστον 10 λεπτά.
Προσθέτουμε ένα ένα τα αυγά περιμένοντας να ενσωματωθεί το ένα πριν ρίξουμε το άλλο. Ρίχνουμε το γιαούρτι και ανακατεύουμε καλά μέχρι να πάρουμε ένα ομοιογενές μείγμα.
Σιγά σιγά προσθέτουμε το αλεύρι που το έχουμε περάσει από σίτα μαζί με τις βανίλιες, το αλάτι, το τζίντζερ και την κανέλα.
Το αλεύρι το ενσωματώνουμε με μία σπάτουλα και όχι στο μίξερ. Τέλος προσθέτουμε και την καρύδα και ανακατεύουμε με τη σπάτουλα.
Έχουμε αλευρώσει λίγο τα κομμάτια του ανανά. Τα ρίχνουμε και αυτά στο τέλος. Βουτυρώνουμε και αλευρώνουμε μία φόρμα για κέικ 10x35 εκ.
Προσθέτουμε το μείγμα μέσα και ψήνουμε για 45 λεπτά.
Δοκιμάζουμε με ένα μαχαίρι ή μία οδοντογλυφίδα αν έχει ψηθεί το κέικ. Αφαιρούμε από τον φούρνο και αφήνουμε 5 λεπτά πριν το ξεφορμάρουμε

Αν θέλεις να το κανεις με μέλι αντί για ζάχαρη, όπως εγώ, θα πρέπει να κατεβάσεις τη θερμοκρασία κατα 20 βαθμούς και να αυξήσεις το χρόνο ψησήματος!

Scones με μέλι, κανέλα και σταφίδες

Η καινούργια μου εμμονή!! Scones! Αγαπημένα των Βρετανών και τώρα και δικά μου! Είναι σαν μικρά ψωμάκια, οι Βρετανοί συνήθως τα τρώνε με clotted cream και μαρμελάδα. Εγώ έβαλα τυρί κρέμα αντί για clotted cream και μαρμελάδα μυρτιλλο και ήταν τέλεια!
Την πρώτη φορά έκανα μισά με τυρί και μισά με καρύδι, αλλάζοντας λίγο αυτή την συνταγή του Άκη Πετρετζίκη που είναι για scones με αμύγδαλο. Αυτή τη φορά έβαλα λίγο μέλι, κανέλα και μερικές σταφίδες. Βασικά μπορείτε να βάλετε ότι σας αρέσει!

225 γρ. Αλεύρι για όλες τις χρήσεις
1 κ.γ. baking powder
50 γρ. ΚΡΥΟ βούτυρο κομμένο σε κύβους
125-150 ml γάλα (ελαφρύ)
1 κ.γ. κανέλα
1 κ. σ. μέλι
30 γρ σταφίδες
1 αυγό χτυπημένο

Βάλτε το αλεύρι, την κανέλα και το baking powder σε ένα μπολ. Το αλεύρι καλό είναι να το κοσκινίζετε πρώτα, οπως και στα κεικ. Ενσωματώστε το βούτυρο στο αλεύρι με τα δάχτυλα σας μέχρι το μείγμα να θυμίζει βρεγμένη άμμο. Προσθέστε το μέλι, τις σταφιδες και το γάλα και ανακατέψτε με ένα πιρούνι μέχρι να ομογενοποιηθούν τα υλικά. Αν το μείγμα κολλάει προσθέστε λίγο αλεύρι ακόμη. Βάλτε το μείγμα σε φόρμα για cupcakes και αλείψτε από πάνω με το αυγό. Ψήστε στον αέρα στους 190 για 15-20 λεπτά. Αν χρησιμοποιείτε μεταλλική φόρμα πρέπει πρώτα να τη βουτυροαλευρώσετε, αν χρησιμοποιείτε φόρμα σιλικόνης μπορείτε να παραλείψετε αυτό το βήμα.
