The smartphone is now expected to roll out the new Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update in the next week or two to improve its functionality and features.

This flagship smartphone from the Taiwanese company is one of the most preferred smartphones by the users. Initially the device had some legal issues that tried to pull it down a bit, it is now selling well over the counters and looking at its popularity it seems that company is now planning to improve it with a new operating system.

This piece of information surfaced over the web when a developer from HTC tweeted that the update will start rolling out in the next two or three weeks time.

@gidiyorsunpro 2-3 weeks I think.

The company however has not yet given out any official information about the software update and therefore it is still not considered to be the final truth of the matter.

According to the sources, this Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update for the HTC One smartphone will come with some new features which may include lock screen widgets, enhanced keyboard as well as the stock gestures, quick settings options and much more.

When was the last time you purchased a calculator? Even the most basic cell phone includes one, along with a host of other functions performed by devices we didn’t give a second thought to purchasing a few short years ago. With continued advances in smartphone technology, there’s no telling what new functions they’ll incorporate and the devices they’ll replace. Here are six devices that today’s smartphones are in the process of replacing.

Cameras

Many consumers are ditching their digital cameras in favor of their smartphone’s state-of-the art camera. With resolutions as high as 8 megapixels and features such as front-facing picture taking, professional photographers may soon be the only digital camera owners around.

Camcorders

Employing mobile apps like Carat that help conserve battery life, many consumers are opting to use their smartphones to record videos of special moments they want to capture. This is especially true as the resolution of smartphone video recorders is as good as or even better than many hand-held camcorders on the market.

Alarm Clocks and Watches

Unlike a typical alarm clock that sits by your bed, a smartphone alarm clock lets you set multiple alarms. So in addition to waking you up, your smart phone alarm clock can be set to remind you of an appointment or to simply take a break. Who needs a watch when a quick glance at your smartphone’s home screen will give you the current date and time?

Road Maps and GPS Devices

Gone are the days of tussling with a bulky road map, searching for the best route to take AND trying to drive at the same time. Turn-by-turn GPS navigation via your smartphone makes even GPS devices a thing of the past. Add a hands-free dock for your phone, and you’ll reach your destination without any mishaps.

Landline Phones

Many smartphone owners have abandoned their landline phones as a cost-saving measure. Why have two phone bills when a smartphone does everything a landline phone can do and a lot more? Also a landline phone is not so handy to handle and is restricted to place at a specific place only.

TVs and Radios

Smartphones are making it extremely easy to stream TV shows and listen to your favorite radio station wherever you happen to be. So instead of tapping your foot impatiently as you wait in the doctor’s office, simply pull out your smartphone and catch up on the latest soap or relax to a soothing symphony concerto. Many smartphone service providers even have dedicated TV stations that let you access news and sports or stream popular entertainment on demand.

Yes, many of these devices are still around, but sales will continue to drop as more consumers jump on the smartphone bandwagon and as smartphones become increasingly sophisticated. Case in point, the latest smartphones incorporate all of the functions performed by the devices listed above and much more.

Yahoo released an updated version of their iOS including its new acquisition, Summly. The same thing is going to happen with the Android now. This app makes the lengthy articles a short description for you making it easy for people to get the meaning of the article in easy language. The new Yahoo app looks practically similar to its iOS counterpart and it contains the same list of the features that are never ending visual stream of various new stories, an enhanced web search including videos and images along with sharing them on Twitter and Facebook.

This application Summly gives you the summaries for the long written news articles down to 400 character and gives you more information than a headline. This is your time now that you can use the android version of this application for getting the short and complete news information. Android Apps Development Services are look forward in introducing this application for android phones too.

Within very less time it has acquired Summly, an iOS news app that is using the combination of natural language algorithms and different programming. Yahoo has now updated its major mobile application for iPod and iPhone touch with the UK’s new summarizing technology. There was written in a blog, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer outlines that her company is continually dedicated to mobile phones, they are introducing a new and latest version of the Yahoo iOS app. This new app features endless stream of stories, a renovated search experience, and new social and personal features for your mobile phones.

This new app is only available in US at present. It is offering the users to select the things they are interested in. It is based on the same natural algorithms and processing that were used once in Summly’s iOS app. It picks out the most important part from the lengthy news articles and makes them easy to read and understand. With the apps in Android framed by Android Apps Programmers, the article pages are new, but they mimic the Yahoo’s new weather and mail iOS applications, more visual designs that the organization think would generate more interests across the entire line of the mobile products and will generate more business.

The app also claims improved and new search features, saving the preferences between the web and the mobile for giving good results for images and video. While acquisition, Yahoo said they would work to get Summly’s technology into the existing mobile experiences as soon as possible, suggesting the Yahoo! iOS app is just the beginning of its mission to “deliver the best of the web.”

Yahoo is going to release a new app for yahoo users that gives Yahoo Mail for iPad, Yahoo Weather for iPhone and Android tablets.

Yahoo’s one more new release is a mail application for the people using tablets that focus more on reading experience. Lee Parry is the person who led the team behind this tablet app. According to this app, its users can read their email(s) on their iPads and can also use their iPads for writing the new mail. As a result, the team has focused on making the app easy to read your email on the tablet. It starts with a full screen feature and strips away with all the chrome design. It won’t leave anything on the screen, but only a message itself on the screen.

Summly has become fourth most mobile-based startup that Yahoo has bought up in the market since Marissa Mayer became CEO of Yahoo in July. As the company is making efforts in improving their recommendation and personalization tools and as a part of Yahoo’s “rational mobile strategy,” Yahoo is planning to combine it’s Summly’s technology with its existing mobile phones soon. According to the reports and news when the app was launched in November, D’Aloisio was immediately owed as “the next Mark Zuckerberg,” of the world. Before it could get grabbed from Apple’s marketplace it took an all-time user rating of four stars.

I think everyone can agree with me that the power of a well-taken picture cannot be challenged in illustrating any point or convincing someone about an event. Even the potency of a well-shot video cannot be unrivaled in doing the same especially in occasions where precision and accuracy are of utmost importance. It is really for these reasons that several disputes are solved, rely heavily on well-taken and authentic pictures and videos. For these reasons and more, it is true that having at least a good set of cameras is more of a necessity than a luxury.

When I started serious photography in my junior high school years, I really didn’t care much about the quality of the photos or the power of the cameras I was using because just the fact that I could take visible and clear photos was enough to excite me the most. I later found out that many photographers actually begin this way and slowly but surely graduate from one point of professionalism to another even without knowing. As I horned my skills over time, I was finally able to appreciate quality and power in so far as cameras are concerned.

If you are not into photography but just interested in getting a handle of how cameras work or which one to get for yourself, then the nitty gritty details of cameras might not really be important to know. In fact, one does not really have to understand all the features of their camera to make the best use out of it. You can look as a camera just like a car and imagine that you really do not have to understand how the engine works or how the brakes do their magic for you to be able to become a good driver or even win races in a competition. So one should really not panic when they encounter photography conversations full of technical camera jargon.

What is more important however, is that there are quite a variety of cameras out there today with tons of different features, and it is possible to purchase the wrong one for your needs if you are not careful. Due to the marvels of modern-day technology and an elaborate transport and communication system, one can get just about any type of camera by just a click of buttons and a few days of waiting. Doing some research is essential not only to save some money, but also to save time and embarrassment in the future. A great point to start from is to understand your true needs for the camera and the level of detail that appeals to you in your photography or videography.

Most people use digital cameras today than any other type of cameras, and they are really the most convenient and cost-effective cameras to go with in the long run. The image resolution of these cameras is of utmost importance when minding about the quality of your pictures or videos. The image resolution is measured in pixels and it is so surprising that a large number of photographers or videographers even professional ones, don’t really know the true meaning of pixels. It suffices to know however that pixels refer to the size of an image usually in reference to a photo from a digital camera or a phone camera. Generally, the hire the number of pixels, the greater the image quality.

According to Android Nova who cracked this news first, XOLO Q2000 will include features like a 5.5-inch 1280 x 720p HD IPS display, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 13-megapixel Auto Focus rear camera and 2-megapixel front camera and a long lasting battery of 2500mAh.

The device is expected to list around Rs.16K. Looking at the specs of smartphones available from big players like Samsung, HTC, Sony at this price point, XOLO seems to be far ahead of them. By improving marketing and after sell service this company will really create tough competition to these big boys as Micromax did.

Once upon a time, files lived on your main hard drive only with possibly an external hard drive as backup. People who wanted to send and share files had little choice but to attach them in an email. It was inconvenient, to say the least. Then, it all changed in 2007 when the cloud first went mainstream. Suddenly, you were no longer limited by distance. You could store all your backups, programs, and files online and access them from anywhere.

Businesses eagerly embraced the cloud and already a future is predicted where individual hard drives are things of the past. But how safe is the cloud? Can your business really trust it with sensitive information? The answer might surprise you.

Advantages of the Cloud

The advantages of the cloud are many. You can send and receive large files without having to worry about size limits. You can have a backup of your work that is not dependent on your physical location. This way, if disaster strikes your home or business, all your data is still safe.

You can also access all your data across multiple devices. Even when you travel out any where across the world, a simple mobile device can access all your home or business files.

Also Read : Common Questions about Cloud Storage

A Dark Cloud on the Horizon

Like every major technological advancement, there’s a darker, less-friendly side to the cloud. Specifically, it revolves around security. Compared to the rest of the Internet, the cloud is still in its infancy. However, hacking is not. It’s feared that clever hackers will be able to access all the information uploaded to the cloud and wreak havoc with your online world.

This fear isn’t without some justification, however. Not too long ago, famed tech writer Matt Honan had his digital life decimated by just such a hacker. Within one hour, all his files were gone, and someone was posting racial and homophobic slurs to Twitter in his name. This incident was picked up by the news and soon went viral. More importantly, it exposed some deep security problems within some of the biggest names in the industry.

Also Read : Security issues with Cloud Computing – How to deal with it?

How to Know If Your Cloud Is Secure

When it comes to choosing clouds, there are two very important features to look for; in particular, the strength of a given cloud provider’s brand name and whether it has an SSL certificate.

There are currently no regulations or recognized standards on what formally constitutes a ‘cloud system’. That means that anyone can buy a server and call it a cloud. However, this means it’s really an off-site server and not truly a cloud service. These types of ‘clouds’ are easily recognized by the fact that the uptime is limited. Real clouds have 100% uptime, because they have multiple servers located in multiple countries.

The SSL certificate is another way to verify that your cloud host is secure. A company with an SSL certificate is encrypting your data. In other words, anytime you upload or download data, it’s scrambled. This data can be unscrambled through the use of a digital key. This key is located on your devices and on the cloud, but nowhere else. Without the digital key, a hacker can’t make sense of the information they stole, even if they intercepted it during a transfer to your own device.

Again, though, one of the most important things to keep in mind when choosing a cloud is to go with a respected brand name. When you choose a brand name, you can rest assured that the company isn’t really just someone working from home. Large, trusted companies have full-time staffs to keep your data secure. After all, they have a reputation to protect.

The Cloudy Face of Computing’s Future

Simply put, cloud computing is the future and it’s inarguably here to stay. The convenience of these services ensures their survival. While future clouds probably will be completely secure, there are ways to ensure your cloud’s security, even today. When choosing a cloud provider, this means always choose a brand name that uses SSL security (as already mentioned). Doing this will ensures that your provider won’t disappear unexpectedly and will always have staff on hand to deal with any potential security issues.

Additionally, take precautions to guard your passwords and institute a policy of only making secure passwords. If you’re a business owner, you’ll want to consider using a provider that offers a way to deactivate phones and devices whose security have been compromised. When you know what you’re doing with a cloud, you never have to worry about your digital life being destroyed.

So what steps you are taking to store your business safely in the cloud? Tell us in the comments.
