AMK 1/48 MIG-31 Foxhound (Completed)

MIG-31 Foxhound from AMK completed in Sept 21rd, 2017.
- Build for the Society Of Nubis first GB (MIG & Hornet - Sept 23, 2017)
- Great kit to build and fit like a glove.
- Paint: H308 overall + some white over preshade Dark Grey
- Oil paint + zippo fluid for panel line and minor weathering
- Scratchbuild base with mounting board.

(work and life gets the best of my time, thus the long hiatus)

a little bit of camo touch-up and add a minor weathering on the tank.

i used tamiya panellines accent + oil paint + zippo fluid for washes etc.

so this might be the last WIP for this elefant.

Next update will be the complete shots.. stay tune

After i completed the camo painting, noted that i still need to touch-up the camo.

But me being impatience, decided to flat coat the model and went straight to wash and decal (ideally should be decal then wash).

i'm doing wash by using the Tamiya Panel Line accent (brown & black) and using oil paint (raw umber & black) with Zippo fluid.

with all this washes, i might need to redo it after the decal and after i touch-up the camo... repetitive work which can be avoided if i'm a bit patience....

Decal is next:
This being a very old kit, the decal decided to disintegrate upon contact with water.. so i end up with a meticulous work of placing the decal in a puzzle style. In bit and pieces and with the help of a tweezer. The end result is as follows:

I suppose this is *maybe* ok since in the field this might happen... right? (me trying to justify the bits and pieces i put together :lol:)

This should be it for now.
next the touch-up of the camo.... and another wash..

BTW: i also begin working on a F-14A Jolly Rogers, will up the WIP soon.

I'm back with another build..
After almost a month of hiatus (busy with work, life etc), i'm back with my next build.

This build will be placed under: 1/35 Italeri Tiger(P) Elefant

and also will be in my site: Kumanworks.com when its done :o)

This time a build to *hopefully* support my local Group Build called "Animal GB". Basically to build anything with an animal name in it... so i guess Tiger & Elefant should be an animal name. So i choose this instead.

Originally this is for Age of Innocence GB (kit with mold dated back in the 80's) but i could make it in time (hence the hiatus), so animal GB it is then.

Build
the instruction is very spartan but as for OOB build i just use some guessing on the placement of the parts. A few issue here and there but it build up to be (from my eyes) an Elefant tank :)

Paint
Again i skipped the surfacer treatment and went straight to painting the base color over the dark-green plastics. I used the mixture of Sandy yellow + dark yellow and the result is as follows:

i intentionally using a light passes of the mixture to at least have the patchy look on the tank surface.

Next the green camo.
I use Nato green and before that i draw the camo pattern on the tank with a pencil, if you look closely you might still see the marking on there as it not properly covered by the green camo.

With this pattern as a guide, i freehand airbrush the camo using a rounding movement of the airbrush, making a tiny circle for the pattern to build up the camo (hopefully you guys know what i meant).

Result below.

After a couple of months on the bench.. i'm glad this tank is DONE!!
so that i can move on with other build.... the Elefant tank...
My first open-top tank so please be gentle. :lol:

As i mentioned before, not much weathering will be on my tank as i like it a clean but for this i'm going a bit crazy on the lower part of the hull.

I used soft pastel earth tones mixed with water to achieve the effect as it is.

Before i apply the dust, i wash with raw umber/black/sienna oil paints+ zippo fluid applied around the raised area on the tank.
The wash it being applied with the downward direction while maintaining some of the "residue" of the oil in the bolt area.

My digicam just failed to focus on macro shot, thus resulted in the above and below photo, not very clear but i guess we can see the small parts painting i've done to it. My shaking fingers just cannot stand painting small parts!!. and this is all i can manage. Hope it does justice to the tank.

i think its illogical for the crew to leave the ammunition like that on a tank but need to show it somewhere.. :o)

More Painting of the "Stubborn Emil"

Continue with the painting step.

i custom mixed the grey using Gunze Dark grey (i cant remember the code) with some flat black.
Painted overall giving some more paint near the raised element on the tank.
Also (trying) to do some color modulation on the lower part of the hull.

Noted that i skipped the decal step for this entry as it is pretty straight forward process after the painting.

After painting, i flat coat the whole model in preparation for the decal.
Again another coat of clear to seal the decal, in preparation of the next process... minimum weathering.

i painted the box after i glue it to the tank.
I did it this way as i always have the tendency to loose these small parts.
All the small parts are hand-painted using Vallejo paint.

The floor is a bit shiny for now, will flat coat it later to tone the shininess (is there such word?) down a bit.

The seat also got minimum wear to it :o)

Next: Weathering.. a very minimum weathering...
also i started working on another tank.... an Elefant from Italeri for my local Group Build.. stay tune for that WIP as well.

Moving on with the build. Painting the "Stubborn Emil"

Now i'm at the painting stage and i decided to go against my normal routine... this time i didnt use Mr Surfacer prior to painting.
Wanted to try this as a couple of my friends did it with no issue.. :o)

so straight to the paint..

my cam doing some trick to my photo, it change the grey to slight bluish!!
The wooden floor is hand-painted with a bit darker color towards the edge...
my so called logic to it being stepped on :)

The body also received a coat of paint. The internal is not painted yet.. as most of it will not be visible anyway.

I glued the tools on the tank which will be painted by hand at the later stage.

With the completion of my F-15 build, moving on with next subject a Sturer Emil from Trumpeter.
Another OOB build from me.. (need to keep the momentum going)

Never build a open-top tank before.. here goes.. :)

A fairly fast build as i just follow the instruction, but need to pause a few step since some of the interior need to be painted first.

Dry fit of the gun assembly and the open-top.

This gun mount have to be the most complicated section of the build .. so far

As promised a long time ago, a completed photos of my recently finished 1/48 Academy F-15E Strike Eagle.

The build was Out-Of-The-Box build with no extra PE and stuff.

Noted that i decided to put a lot of ordnance under the wings and i believe such load is not logical and the plane would not be able to leave the tarmac due to the weight of it. But i just like to show a lot of weapon in my build.

Enough chat on to the photos.. before that i prepare a small time-lapse video below. My first attempt for a video of my build. the photos follow right below.

I amended my WIP#1 a lil bit for the base color, it was Dark Green at where i'll be covering most of it with the desert color later on in preparation chipping later on.

This is going to be just a small WIP as i only manage to spray the base paint and also the first coat of Dark Yellow in preparation for the desert scheme later.

It will cover the hairspray layer, where it will be removed later during the chipping process.

That is it for now..:o)

To keep the momentum and modelling "mojo" going i started with my next "new" project..
the 1/35 Trumpeter SA-2 Guideline Missile on Launcher.
** i put "new" because i still have a few pending kit in various stages **

This will be a "warm-up" kit before i start (hopefully in this lifetime) my SA-2 Guideline Missile on Trailer.

A problem free build and i completed the general assembly in record time of 2 days!!
i wish that all the kit is this easy, but again it have a small count of sprue trees.. :0)

I proceed with Mr Surface 1000 treatment, and then with pre-shade with black on the raised lines on the model. Missile included

Then i sprayed a layer of Hairspray out from the can in preparation of the Hairspray techniques for chipping that will come next after the base paint Dark Green ~~(Dark Yellow + Desert Yellow)~~ (i amend this; as actually the base paint will be Dark Green, in preparation for the Dark Yellow + Desert Yellow scheme, sorry guys) i'm going to do this in the desert scheme from a reference i found on the internet from a modeler.

That should be it for now..

Decal progress moving nicely..
the model is basically done.

Anyway i'll share the WIP some photos to show the progress..

Decals went on nicely and with no big problems.
Then i proceed with 2-3 layers of Future coating before the wash steps.

For Panel lines i use tamiya product, Panel Lines Accent - Black.. and clean it using Zippo Oil.

As i liked my plane clean so the wash-step is very minimal.

Some photos of the loadout i'll be using, although i doubt that i'll hang all under the belly but some will be.
I've planned to have the F-15 as a show piece, so i'll try yo put everything that i can on the hardpoint.

Armaments && Loadouts
I love to see my aircraft that i build armed to the max, so with this F-15E; i would go OOB-ly insane with the weapons (after all this kit said on the box "with weapon", so its only appropriate to use it all).

So far i've done painting the MK83's, all the MK20s, the Sparrow AAM, the sidewinder AAMs, the ECM Pod and the fuel tanks.

next will paint the GBU-12 and the ASAT Missile (eventhough i dont think i'll use the ASAT Missile) but maybe i can display it on the "tarmac" beside the f-15.

Painting
From my reference, i really liked the F-15E with the darker tone of grey instead the light grey paint. So after priming, i mixed my own Dark Grey with H335 + some black. It would be easier to just use H331 or H68 out of the bottle, but with my limited stock of paint i'll have to mixed my own grey instead.
Below is after the first layer of the grey mixture, those pre-shade is still very visible. A 2nd coat is needed.
Note to self: Next time when do pre-shade with dark grey instead of black.

After the 2nd layer of grey the result as follows.

also already unmasked the exhaust & the nosecone.

next is preparation for decals

Decal Preparation.
My decal routine would involve 2 layers of Future for the whole aircraft. and wait for at least 12 hours in between layers.

Notice the streaking on the wing portion, this is intentional as part of the weathering during the painting process and also the result of the different paint mixture shades. As i doesn't mix all in one go, instead every painting session is a different mix, thus the result is a pre-weathering ( i guess..).

1/48 Academy F-15E - WIP #1

Its been a while since i last update my Work In Progress in here.
For this round its a 1/48 Academy F-15E with weapon aircraft.

The construction started back in May 2016 and after a few session of build now i'm at the final stage before the decal. So below i share some of the photos the construction process up to where i'm now.

The build is straight forward, after the Surfacer 1000 treatment, i begins with the painting of the exhaust silverish steps. The way i paint it:
1. Gloss black (i use Tamiya)
2. Gaianotes Bright Silver
3. Future

Also at this step, i start my newbie pre-shades.. not too sure how much will be visible after the painting process later.

Then i masked off the silver part to proceed with the general paint steps.

for this kit, the canopy have a nasty seamline that need to be take care off... so i proceed to sand it off and the polish it up with Tamiya polishing compound and a dip into Future, its done.

Malaysia Scale Hobby Show (MSHS) 2016

The 1st ever International South East Asia Scale Hobby Show ended yesterday (June 4 ~ 5, 2016) and it was a huge success in my view :). A big Kudos to the organizer and all the participants.
Held at Cititel Hotel Penang for the 2 days.

I was there on Saturday and it was a lot of fun and got to "put-the-name-to-the-faces" from all the WhatsApp and forum groups :o)

I'll snapped a few photos and will need to sort through and will share them below and also in my site kumanworks.com (a bit later)

I'll get to posting it in a bit.. somehow i thought i've already posted it..but i didnt.. so enjoy WIP #2 first :o)

Around of updates:

been a while since the last update and i got to the point of doing pin-wash.

The camo been painted freehand (was thinking of masking it, but thought i give freehand a try) with Nato Green (base color), Nato Brown and Flat Black (just because i didnt have Nato Black in stock - shame on me!!).

i didnt take the step by step photo (forget all about it) but only manage to take what you see here..

Before i decal i spray a very diluted Nato Green on the camo, as i read somewhere that this helps to blend all the camo color to the base color... to my untrained eyes.. it actually makes a difference... (to my eyes it should.. anyway..)

Decal also already on the tank, not many decal were used and it goes on the model with no problem with the help of Mr Setter & Mr Softer on a clear coat H30 from gunze.

After all the decal, i spray a layer of Clear coat again to seal the decal in and ready the surface for the next step.. pin-wash ( i think this is what they called) using the Tamiya Panel wash (brown/black) or maybe using a normal oilpaint mix with turps...

Next:
1. pinwash
2.a coat of flat (seal the wash)
3. Dot filtering (again i dunno if this is what being called, where you dot the surface with oil paint of various color and use turps to blend it in)

Trumpeter 1/32 A-10 2-seater N/aw - Completing It- W.I.P #1

It's very rare that someone pass to you his whole stash for you to finish it... and i'm one of the lucky few that was given an opportunity to owned such a stash..

i received around 20 boxes of kits in various conditions and scales and one of those is this BIG A-10A N/AW (2-seater tank in the sky) - (also a single seater A-10, that is for another time :o) )

my friend had joined the fuselage and have all the part glued together... but the cockpit are not in the fuselage yet.. so my task is to get it inside without much the needs for extensive surgery.

Lucky for me...it'll be easy to do so without much surgery... i guess.

A-10 kit is known for its tail-sitting-ness..

this one is no exception... so after using 15 of these fishing weight.. i manage to get it to sit properly.

and the amount of fishing-weight i use in the fuselage..

and cover it with some sticky stuff..

next will be the ejection seat :)
