7 Spesies Unik Yang Ditemukan Tahun 2010

Setiap tahun spesies-spesies hewan baru ditemukan. Banyak di antaranya memiliki keunikan yang khas dan tak ditemukan sebelumnya.

Pada 2010, beberapa spesies menarik berhasil ditemukan oleh para ilmuwan. Ada yang bisa berpendar seperti lampu, ada yang melahap besi, ada pula yang mampu menghasilkan bahan yang lebih kuat dari kevlar. Berikut ini spesies-spesies unik 2010 yang berhasil dihimpun oleh situs LiveScience.

1. Ikan Pancake Batfish

Ikan ini merupakan spesies yang terkena imbas dari bencana tumpahnya minyak di Teluk Meksiko tahun lalu. Menyandang nama latin Halieutichthys intermedius, ikan ini hidup di wilayah perairan dalam.

Dengan bentuk tubuhnya yang ceper seperti kue serabi, ikan ini memiliki gerakan yang aneh. Lebih mirip melompat dengan siripnya di sepanjang dasar laut, ketimbang berenang.

2. Laba-laba Darwin's Bark Spider

Hewan ini berasal dari Madagaskar, dan dinamakan Caerostris darwini. Laba-laba ini terkenal dengan jaring buatannya yang begitu besar dan panjang serta kuat. Jaring laba-laba ini bisa merentang hingga 25 meter.

Salah satu contohnya, ia bisa merentang di atas sebuah sungai di Madagaskar dengan lebih dari 30 serangga yang terjebak di jaring tersebut. Tak cuma panjang, namun jaring laba-laba ini juga dua kali lebih kuat dari jaring laba-laba lain dan 10 kali lebih kuat dari bahan kevlar berukuran sama.

3. Bakteri Titanic

Ini adalah bakteri yang ditemukan oleh para ilmuwan dari Dalhousie University Kanada dan University of Sevilla Spanyol pada bangkai kapal RMS Titanic.

Bakteri dengan nama latin Halomonas titanicae itu mengkonsumsi besi dan baja, ditemukan melekat di permukaan sisa-sisa Titanic yang tenggelam di Samudra Atlantik.

4. Biawak Sierra Madre

Biasa disebut biawak tutul emas atau biawak Sierra Madre Forest, kadal raksasa ini ditemukan di hutan Sierra Madre di Pulau Luzon Filipina.

Biawak bernama latin Varanus bitatawa itu, memiliki bobot sekitar 10 kg dan panjang sekitar 2 meter, dan sehari-harinya menghabiskan waktunya di pepohonan dan memakan buah-buahan.

5. Lintah Tiran

Lintah ini ditemukan di Peru, pada selaput rongga hidung seseorang. Memiliki panjang 5 cm, hewan penghisap darah ini memiliki rahang tunggal dan gigi-gigi yang besar.

Ia dinamakan Tyrannobdella rex (artinya: raja lintah tiran). Setidaknya kini ada 700 spesies lintah yang telah diteliti. Diperkirakan masih ada lebih dari 10 ribu spesies lintah di dunia ini.

6. Jamur Bawah Air

Ilmuwan menemukan spesies anyar jamur yang mampu hidup di bawah air. Jamur yang diberi nama Psathyrella aquatica ini hidup di dalam sungai Rogue River Oregon Amerika Serikat. Ajaibnya, jamur ini memiliki insang dan mampu berbuah di dalam air.

7. Jamur Bioluminescent

Jamur bercahaya ini ditemukan di habitat hutan Atlantic dan dikumpulkan di Sao Paulo Brazil. Jamur kecil ini berdiameter kurang dari 8 mm dengan diameter topi yang lebih kecil dari 2 cm.

Ia memiliki batang yang terlapis oleh gel, dan mampu memendarkan cahaya hijau kekuningan. Profesor Biologi dari San Francisco State University yang menemukan jamur ini, Dennis Desjardin menamakan spesies ini Mycena luxaeterna (cahaya abadi).

Diperkirakan, ada sekitar 1,5 juta spesies jamur di bumi. Hanya 71 di antaranya yang merupakan jamur yang dapat berrcahaya.

Manusia mengalami rasa menyesal. Tapi tidak hanya manusia, ternyata monyet juga. Para peneliti neurobiologi Universitas Yale,Connecticut, Amerika Serikat, meneliti proses pengambilan keputusan yang dilakukan monyet. Hasil penelitian mereka dipublikasikan di jurnal Neuron edisi 26 Mei.

“Rasa menyesal membantu kita mengenali pilihan yang hasilnya buruk, sehingga kita dapat melihat pilihan lain yang hasilnya lebih baik,” ungkap Daeyeol Lee, professor neurobiologi Universitas Yale.

Reaksi monyet yang menyesal

Manusia cenderung bereaksi menentukan pilihan baru, jika pilihan sebelumnya tidak berhasil. Para peneliti menemukan bahwa seperti halnya manusia, kemampuan menentukan pilihan atas peluang yang lebih baik, juga dimiliki monyet.

Lee dan rekannya Hiroshi Abe mencatat ada suatu aktivitas syaraf otak monyet yang menunjukkan bahwa hewan ini punya rasa menyesal saat kalah dalam suatu permainan.

Rasa menyesal itu membuat mereka memilih cara lain supaya bisa menang. Setelah berhasil menang dalam permainan itu, monyet akan cenderung mengulangi pilihan yang sama supaya menang lagi.

Dengan kata lain, monyet memiliki kemampuan memprediksi hasil dari suatu pilihan. Aktivitas syaraf otak yang bekerja dalam proses ini adalah korteks prefrontal. Bagian inilah bekerja menentukan emosi dan pilihan rasional saat monyet merasa menyesal.

Ingin Tahu Proses Terbentuknya Bulan 4 Miliar Tahun yang Lalu

Teori ‘Giant Impact’ merupakan hipotesa bagaimana proses terbentuknya bulan. Ilmuwan berteori, Bulan terbentuk akibat bergabungnya serpihan-serpihan pecahan Bumi yang ketika itu masih muda bertabrakan dengan benda langit berukuran sebesar planet Mars.

Salah satu bukti yang mendukung hipotesa ini adalah contoh-contoh bebatuan yang diambil para astronot saat mengunjungi Bulan. Dari bebatuan itu, terindikasi bahwa permukaan Bulan sebelumnya berbentuk cair dan kemungkinan ia memiliki inti kecil dari besi dengan kepadatan yang lebih rendah dibanding Bumi.

Adapun benda langit yang menghantam Bumi disebut sebagai Theia, diambil dari nama dewi bangsa Yunani, yang merupakan ibu dari Selene, dewi Bulan.

Menurut teori Giant Impact, Theia terbentuk bersama dengan planet-planet lainnay di tata surya sekitar 4,6 miliar tahun yang lalu. Ia mengitari Matahari dalam orbit yang kurang lebih sama dengan Bumi sekitar 60 derajat di depan atau di belakang Bumi.

Stabilitasnya dalam mengitari Bumi kemudian terganggu karena Theia kemudian tumbuh melampaui batas maksimal 10 persen massa planet Bumi. Akibatnya, gaya gravitasi membuat Theia meninggalkan posisi orbitnya dan mendekati Bumi lalu saling bertabrakan.

Menurut para astronom, tabrakan antara Bumi dan Theia terjadi sekitar 4,53 miliar tahun lalu, atau sekitar 30 sampai 50 juta tahun setelah terbentuknya sistem tata surya. Akan tetapi, dari bukti-bukti terakhir, terindikasi bahwa tabrakan itu terjadi lebih lambat, yakni 4,48 miliar tahun lalu.

Cara Astronom Menentukan Usia Sebuah Bintang?

Bagi kebanyakan orang, bila kita melihat bintang di langit, tentunya kita mendapatkan bahwa semua bintang hampirlah serupa satu sama lain, yaitu bola gas yang berpijar kemerlap. Pertanyaannya adalah, bagaimanakah kita tahu berapa usia bintang itu?

Belum lama ini, astronom telah mendapatkan sebuah metode untuk menentukan usia bintang secara akurat dari mengamati bagaimana bintang itu berotasi. Bagaikan sebuah gasing yang diputar di atas meja, maka seberapa cepat atau lambat bintang itu berotasi dapat menjadi penentu waktu berapakah usia sebuah bintang.

Hal tersebut disampaikan oleh astronom bernama Soren Meibom dari Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics pada pertemuan American Astronomical Society ke 218.

Mengapa para astronom perlu memahami usia sebuah bintang?

Kajian usia bintang mempunyai peran yang sangat penting pada berbagai studi di astronomi, secara khusus tentunya bagi pencarian planet-planet di luar Tata Surya, mempelajari bagaimana pembentukannya, perkembangannya, dan mengapa setiap sistem keplanetan yang telah ditemukan begitu unik satu dengan yang lainnya.

Dengan mengetahui usia bintang, maka kita dapat menentukan usia planet-planetnya, serta apakah mungkin ada kehidupan yang sempat tumbuh di luar sana.

Semakin tua usia planet, semakin besar kemungkinan kehidupan terbentuk, karena sebagaimana yang telah diketahui sistem keplanetan yang berada pada sebuah bintang biasanya terbentuk bersamaan dengan kelahiran bintang itu sendiri.

Mengetahui usia bintang cenderung mudah untuk ditentukan apabila bintang yang akan diukur itu berada di dalam sebuah sistem gugus bintang.

Adalah pengetahuan dasar bagi astronomi untuk mendapatkan hubungan warna dan kecerlangan bintang-bintang di dalam gugus guna menentukan usia gugus, akan tetapi kondisinya akan menjadi sangat sulit apabila bintang yang akan ditentukan usianya tidak berada dalam satu sistem gugus.

Sebagaimana bintang-bintang yang telah ditemukan mempunyai sistem keplanetan, kebanyakan tidak berada di dalam gugus, sehingga menentukan usianya menjadi tantangan tersendiri dalam studi astronomi.

Penelitian yang dilakukan oleh Meibon dkk mempergunakan pengamatan dari wahana Kepler, dengan melakukan pengukuran rasio rotasi pada sebuah gugus berusia 1 milyar tahun yang disebut sebagai NGC 6811.

Nilai ini hampir mencapai dua kali lipat dari penelitian sebelumnya, dan usia sekitar itu masih dikatakan penyelidikan pada gugus muda.

Penelitian ini memberi pemahaman baru pada hubungan rasio rotasi bintang dengan usianya. Jika kesahihan hubungan rotasi bintang dan usia dapat diperoleh, maka pengukuran periode rotasi bintang dari setiap bintang dapat dipergunakan untuk menentukan usianya – sebuah teknik yang disebut sebagai gyrochronology, tetapi hal ini tidak serta merta dapat dipergunakan.

Sebagaimana sistem waktu di Bumi yang memerlukan standar, maka sistem penentuan waktu (usia) tersebut harus dapat dikalibrasikan kepada sebuah standar.

Sebagaimana kita di Bumi menyatakan bahwa satu tahun terdiri dari 365 hari, dst, maka agar dapat mendapat kesesuaian waktu, harus dapat diperoleh sebuah kestandaran.

Untuk itu, maka langkah pertama yang para peneliti itu lakukan adalah memulai dari pengukuran sebuah sistem gugus yang telah diketahui usianya.

Dengan mengukur rotasi pada bintang-bintang anggota gugus, dapat dipelajari rasio putaran bintang-bintangnya untuk menentukan usia-usianya. Pengukuran rotasi bintang anggota gugus pada usia yang berbeda dapat menghubungkan antara putaran dan usianya.

Untuk dapat mengukur putaran bintang, astronom harus mendapatkan perubahan kecerlangan bintang akibat adanya bintik bintang pada permukaan bintang, sebagaimana bintik Matahari pada permukaan Matahari.

Bila ada bintik terbentuk pada permukaan dan berada pada arah ke pengamat, maka bintang akan mengalami sedikit peredupan, sampai ketika bintik itu menghilang, dan bintang kembali sedikit lebih cerlang.

Dengan menentukan berapa lama bintik itu berotasi pada permukaan bintang, maka dapat ditentukan berapa cepat bintang yang diamati berotasi.

Tentunya perubahan kecerlangan bintang akibat bintik adalah sangat-sangat kecil, lebih kecil dari satu persen dan menjadi lebih kecil lagi pada bintang yang lebih tua.

Dengan demikian pengukuran rotasi bintang pada bintang-bintang yang lebih tua dari setengah milyar tahun tidak dapat dilakukan dari permukaan Bumi dikarenakan gangguan atmosfer Bumi.

Tetapi permasalah itu saat ini telah dapat diatasi mempergunakan pengamatan wahana Kepler, karena wahana itu telah dirancang guna mengukur kecerlangan bintang dengan sangat presisi guna penentuan adanya sistem keplanetan pada bintang-bintang.

Tentunya menentukan hubungan usia-rotasi pada kasus NGC 6811 ini bukanlah pekerjaan mudah bagi Meibom dkk karena mereka telah menghabiskan waktu empat tahun menentukan bintang-bintang anggota gugus atau kebetulan bintang lain yang berada pada arah pandang yang sama.

Hal ini dilakukan mempergunakan peralatan yang disebut Hectochelle yang terpasang pada teleskop MMT di Mt. Hopkins Arizona selatan. Alat Hectochelle dapat mengamati 240 bintang secara bersamaan, dan dengan demikian telah mengamati sekitar 7000 bintang selama empat tahun pengamatannya.

Setelah mengetahui bintang-bintang yang merupakan anggota gugus, maka selanjutnya data dari Kepler dipergunakan untuk menentukan seberapa cepat bintang-bintang itu berputar.

Mereka menemukan periode rotasi antara 1 sampai 11 hari (yang lebih panas dan masif berputar lebih cepat), dibanding dengan Matahari yang rasio putarannya hanya 30 hari.

Yang paling penting dari temuan mereka adalah adanya hubungan massa bintang dengan rasio rotasi dengan sebaran data yang kecil. Temuan ini mengkonfirmasi bahwa gyrochronology adalah metode baru yang dapat dipergunakan untuk mempelajari usia sebuah bintang.

Tim Meibom saat ini berencana untuk mempelajari sistem gugus yang lebih tua guna mengkalibrasi penentu waktu bintang mereka. Ini tentunya merupakan langkah yang lebih sulit karena bintang yang lebih tua berputar lebih lambat dan memiliki lebih sedikit bintik-bintik, yang artinya perubahan kecerlangannya akan sangat-sangat kecil.

Pekerjaan Meibom dkk itu telah menjadi sebuah lompatan dalam pemahaman pada bagaimanakah bintang-bintang di langit (termasuk Matahari) bekerja, demikian juga pada pada pemahaman sistem keplanetan di bintang-bintang yang jauh.

Di Indonesia terdapat beberapa spesies lele yang telah dikenal dan dibudidayakan.Adapun klasifikasi lele secara lengkap menurut Weber de Beaufort (1965) dalam Suyanto (1991) dapat dilihat sebagai berikut:

Di Indonesia setidaknya terdapat enam jenis keluarga ikan berkumis ini, sebagian spesies pribumi dan sebagian lagi spesies asing, yang dapat dikembangkan.. Keenam jenis lele tersebut adalah:

1. Clarias batrachus dikenal sebagai ikan lele (Jawa), ikan kalang (Sumatera Barat), ikan maut (Sumatera Utara), dan ikan pintet (Kalimantan Selatan).

2. Clarias teysmani dikenal sebagai lele kembang (Jawa Barat), kalang putih (Padang).

3. Clarias melanoderma dikenal sebagai ikan duri (Sumatera Selatan), wais (Jawa Tengah), wiru (Jawa Barat).

4. Clarias nieuhofi dikenal sebagai ikan lindi (Jawa), limbat (Sumatera Barat), kaleh (Kalimantan Selatan).

5. Clarias loiacanthus dikenal sebagai ikan keli (Sumatera Barat), ikan penang (Kalimantan Timur).

6. Clarias gariepinus, yang dikenal sebagai lele dumbo atau King Cat Fish, spesies asing yang berasal Afrika.

Usaha budi daya lele terbukti banyak membantu perekonomian masyarakat di Thailand, India, Filipina dan Indonesia. Setiap tahunnya, Thailand memproduksi sekitar 970 kg lele dari 100 meter pesegi kolam. Daerah Asam, India, mampu berproduksi rata-rata 1.200 kg lele per hektar lahan.

Sebagai alat bantu untuk berenang, lele memiliki tiga buah sirip tunggal, yaitu sirip punggung, sirip ekor, dan sirip dubur. Lele juga memiliki sirip berpasangan, yaitu sirip dada dan sirip perut. Sirip dada dilengkapi dengan sirip yang keras dan runcing yang disebut dengan patil. Patil ini berguna sebagai senjata dan alat bantu untuk bergerak di lumpur ataupun di darat (Khairuman dan Amri, 2002).

Lele memiliki organ aborescent atau insang tambahan yang dikenal pula dengan sebutan labirin. Dengan alat ini, lele dapat hidup di dalam lumpur atau air yang hanya mengandung sedikit oksigen. Lele juga mampu mengeluarkan lendir tubuh untuk mencegah kekeringan, dan dapat bertahan hidup di luar air (darat) dalam beberapa jam, asalkan udara di sekitarnya cukup lembab (Skelton, 1993).

Lele selain biasa hidup di perairan tawar yang tenang seperti danau, waduk, kolam dan genangan air, tetapi juga terdapat di sungai yang mengalir (Tuegles, 1986). Termasuk kedalam hewan omnivora yang cenderung karnivora dan merupakan hewan dasar. Food habit lele dumbo di alam adalah serangga, plankton, invertebrata dan ikan kecil, selain itu juga dapat memakan burung muda, daging busuk, dan tanaman (Skelton, 1993).

Lele pada umumnya mencapai kematangan gonad untuk pertama kalinya setelah berukuran 100 gram atau sekitar 4-5 bulan pemeliharaan, dengan fekunditas mencapai 30.000 butir/kg induk ikan betina (BBATS, 2003). Telur lele yang sudah dibuahi, akan menetas setalah 24-40 jam yang bergantung pada suhu media (Skelton, 1993). Pada habitat alami, lele memijah pada awal musim penghujan, yaitu dengan cara menempatkan telur pada tumbuhan, akan tetapi pada kolam pemijahan buatan, lele mampu memijah sepanjang tahun (BPPP, 1992). Pertumbuhan lele terhitung lebih cepat dibandingkan dengan jenis ikan air tawar lainnya. Pada usia yang sama, lele jantan berukuran lebih besar dibanding betina (Skelton, 1993).
