I went to a delicious sandwich shop with a friend today called Commonwealth. I didn't eat but the shop was lovely and what I did try of my friends sandwich was yummy and the cheesecake in the jar was just about the cutest thing ever so I was sold. Theres also art so its a gallery too.

After that we went to Magnolia Thunderpussy to look at vinyl and I was super disappointed. I couldn't find Fleetwood Mac, Bon Iver, Alison Krauss or M83. Plus, it wasn't until I got home that I realized I forgot to check for Jonsi (which I am listening to now ahhhh).

Romney and Dumplings

Mitt Romney came to campus yesterday. I missed most of his speech but caught a few of the questions at the end. I'm liberal and he laughed at liberals (literally, said "Oh those liberals" and laughed) but he actually had some interesting things to say. However, I did opt to take his photo instead of shaking his hand. I didn't want any of those conservative germs to wash off on me!! ...
After seeing Romney a friend and I made Chicken Dumpling soup, drank pink Moscato and listened to Broken Bells and the Decemberists.

Today, my roommate and I went to the jewelry room and I used scraps to make these bracelets and rings!

Jazz by Goddamn Electric Bill came from the contest I won. I put the album on and I swear I was the happiest person in the world. It felt like my college experience came full circle. I'm on spring break still and everything is delightful (except that I am putting off my research paper..). I'm on my way out now for 50% off sale day at Ohio Thrift. :)
Oh, and its 68 degrees out right now, how could I not be happy.

Spring Break in Cincinnati

I'm on spring break here in Ohio and took a trip down to Cincinnati to see a friend perform Rent with my family, and it was simply delightful. I had been itching to get out of the city so I enjoyed every minute of it, I just wish we could have stayed longer!

And this is my new baby. None of these photos were taken with it since I literally just opened it less than an hour ago but now I need to find my tripod and buy a remote. I am so excited to have a DSLR I have wanted one for a very very long time. I'm still a bit sad that I didn't have one in Paris with me last year. Now I have another camera to add to my collection of "What camera am I going to carry around today?"

I've been biding my time this week with course work, Cat Power, cleaning and cereal for every meal.

A wonderful moment happened earlier when my roommate played Whitney Houstons I Will Always Love You downstairs, and then I played it twice more (as loud as possible with my loud speakers) as my two roommates and I sang along as loudly as possible. A few minutes later I am out the door and in my car half way down the driveway when I get a text from my landlord (who lives on the other side of our duplex) that said " "I will always love you" too! hahaha :)"
It was so wonderful and hilarious because we always talk about how we converse loudly about inappropriate subjects and how they have to hear us as clear as if we were talking to them in the same room and sometimes we do this and sing along loudly to songs that we play five times in a row.

And on top of that, my three hour evening class was cancelled so I went to the thrift store where I was surprised with a 50% off sale so I bought a red cape, a yellow shirt, a knee length flower skirt for music fests this summer and a navy and white polka dot skirt that I am planning on cutting up and making smaller and shorter.

I need to fix my sewing machine.

I turn 22 tomorrow!

Lazy Daisy Oatmeal Cake

I woke up this morning to a lovely surprise email from Jason of Goddamn Electric Bill to say that I won a contest, so soon enough I will be receiving a signed copy of the new album Jazz on vinyl. If you haven't listened to GDEB, you must. I am so excited. His music was the soundtrack of my first year of college when we would turn the black light on in my bedroom and stare at the blacklight posters and itunes visualizer and life was absolutely perfect and simple.

In other news, my mom made this delicious cake a few weeks ago so I made it again because I swear it is the greatest thing I have ever tasted.

Recipe

Cake

1 1/4 cups boiling water
1 cups oats (quick or old fashioned)
1/2 cup of butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups flour, sifted
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Preheat oven to 350.
Pour boiling water over oats; cover and let stand 20 minutes.
Beat butter until creamy; gradually add sugar and brown sugar and beat until fluffy. Blend in vanilla and eggs. Add oats and mix well.
Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Add to creamed mixture; mixx well.
Pour batter into well greased and floured 9" pan.
Bake for 50-55 minutes.

Frosting

1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
3 tablespoons half and half
1/2 cup nuts, chopped
3/4 cup coconut, shredded or flaked

For frosting, combine all ingredients. Spread evenly over cake. Place back in oven and broil until frosting becomes bubbly (about 2 minutes).

I put mine in a 9x13 pan and cooked it instead for 35 minutes, and then doubled all of the frosting ingredients because the frosting is the best part. :)

My birthday is in five days and this week my father and I are going to take a trip to Midwest Photo Exchange together to continue our look for DSLRs and oh my goodness I am just so ready to start taking photos everyday again. I want to start a 365, I never had the courage to do it before but I feel like with graduation coming up, what a better way to document such a change my life is going to take.

Summer bookstore and Comfest

I haven't been shooting any film recently since I've been sick and I don't want to never update so here are photos from my lovely summer. I miss the weather, walking in heels around the brick streets of German Village, macarons from Pistachio Vera, wandering through The Book Loft, Comfest and most importantly dinner parties with good food, wine and night swimming in closed public pools in our underthings.

It's Beginning to Get to Me

I am still at my parents. I don't know, I can't bring myself to go back to my apartment because its so sad and lonely there and I'm tired of spending my nights alone. I wanted to go out today but no one else did/could and its moments like this when I wish you were in my life again.

Because I am watching it right now, because it is an amazing movie and because I have been a Julia Roberts fangirl for as long as I can remember. I just love every shot of this movie.

I'm at my parents because I have a horrible cough and no voice, so I'm missing out on a friends show at Victorys but at least I get to watch this. Maybe I will bust out my fathers camera and take some shots when my parents go to bed.

Airport Adventures on pentax

I went on a shooting adventure yesterday with a fellow friend and finally finished up the roll of film in my pentax.

We drove to the airport, one of my favorite places to go at night. I usually drive up to the roof and you get this stunning view of the city at night.

I tried fidgeting with rewinding and making double exposures again, I'd like to experiment with an entire roll of film sometime. Usually I'll only rewind it a couple of times so only the last few are double exposures, like these.

My father made a battery for my Yashica Electro 35 GSN so I am going to shoot a roll on it this week and hope that it works! :) I bought it for $8.50 at a thrift store so I'm crossing my fingers.

More Self Portraits

More self portraits. Exciting right? Ahaha. I just arrived home from my ceramics class which I now despise. My last semester of college and theres not a single class I'm in that I enjoy. Even worse yet, many of them just upset me like nothing else in this world can. I just think elitism and disrespect has no place in college classes.

I also found this yesterday while going through old photos. I think the connection this quote has to my life now is phenomenal. When I first found this, five or six years ago, I had hardly kissed a boy, let alone loved one. Looking through every relationship I've ever been in, there has never been a single one where this quote hasn't been applicable for the majority of it. I have an awful awful time with commitment and as a result, it has taken a lot of people away from me.

It's odd how five years later this still holds meaning to me.

While laying in bed listening to the Black Keys, I decided to edit some recent photographs. Nothing too exciting. I've been going out a lot lately. This weekend I went to Rumba and saw Mojoflo (and the Mayor!), and went to Ravari room and Union. I danced the time warp on stage, ran into a friend I hadn't seen since high school, danced with a stranger and met wonderful new people.

Today I attended a workshop on domestic violence on campus for MLK day. It was insightful.

I also wrote a letter.

I recently made a mix for a friend. It's what I listen to most nights when falling asleep. I would say it is most appropriate to listen to this while laying next to someone you love, or solo with some candles and hot cocoa.

I recently received some film back. I'm beginning to carry my camera around with me everywhere again so hopefully I will be developing more often. This photograph was taken before Laura's birthday party, I wore really high shoes that night and made a new friend.

My life is pretty stereotypical as a college student but these photos are a nice reminder of moments in life.
