As many of you know, we had our first ever Frost Bite 100 this past weekend on January 16, 2010. The purpose for the ride was to bring riders from all over the Up State of South Carolina and surrounding areas together for one cause: To provide a sense of hope in someone’s time of need.

Since late September and early October, we had been requesting names of various families from all over that were in need of financial help. Needless to say, we only received two names: Phil Webb from Pelzer South Carolina and Stan “Papa Smurf” McClellion of Anderson (Papa Smurf is an M25 point man who is currently suffering with cancer).

Hard CORE Motorcycle Ministry had invited people from all over using any means we could to get involvement from the biker community. Timm’s Harley Davidson in Anderson, South Carolina sponsored the event, providing doughnuts, coffee, and hot chocolate to all riders that morning, and the ride concluded at Sue’s Wings and Things Restaurant and Bar. We provided American flags to all bikes that registered and rode to attach to their bikes. We then made a 100 mile ride through communities and towns in the surrounding areas, with the flags waving proudly in the wind as we went. The weather was very much against a really good turnout. We did have 23 bikes in attendance and at $20.00 dollars per bike plus some donations we collected $600.00 dollars.

At the close of the day, Sue, the owner of Sue’s Wings and Things, drew a name for us to determine the recipient of the day’s proceeds. The name drawn to receive the funds was Papa Smurf. A club in the Up State, called “Groundpounders,” and other hand-selected bikers (non Hard CORE members) who attended that day, along with Pastor Eric Boggs of Beech Springs Tabernacle, made the delivery to Papa Smurf and his wife at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Pastor Eric Boggs of Beech Springs Tabernacle had this to say, “Papa Smurf was blown away by the money that was collected and the clubs that took the money to him were ministered to by Papa Smurf as he lay in that hospital bed, and talked to them.” The clubs and groups that delivered the money were able to see God at work firsthand in the lives of believers, and they were involved with the whole process of giving back to a community by touching one family’s life that they didn’t even know.

The event was covered in full by Thunder Press, and Full Throttle Magazine. The articles and photos will be published in the March issues.

Hard CORE Motorcycle Ministries, riding with the Mission of M25 in mind, had 4 goals going into this day:

1. Perform a community ride with the American flag displayed on as many bikes as possible to hopefully restore hope and faith, in what that flag is really about and what it truly represents “Hope.”

2. Create connections with other clubs or organizations (not necessarily ministries) and bring them together by involving them in the event of riding for someone in their community.

3. Be a light in the biker community, and create relationships that would carry us through 2010.

4. Raise money from bikers to go back into communities and families that were in need, but not necessarily bikers (pay it forward).

Hard CORE of South Carolina believes that sometimes in order to be first, you have to be last. That day, we laid everything aside for someone else and let the day be about involving others and recognizing them. Giving sacrificially is often giving to those you don’t know and receiving a blessing from God for your effort.

I truly believe that everyone in attendance experienced a blessing that day. Kevin, writer for Full Throttle magazine, said he was moved by what he experienced that day and looked forward to the 2nd Annual Frostbite 100. He also said he would cover any and all events that we had in the future no matter how large or how small. We rode as Hard CORE Motorcycle ministries, while representing the purpose of Mission: M25, a ministry of hope.

We accomplished all of our goals and built some relationships along the way.

Mission Completed.
Mission Successful.

Well, we are fast approaching the Holiday Season. For many, it is a very stressful time of year–particularly in light that many of you have your family member deployed, or things at home have changed dramatically due to the loss of your loved one or wounding.

It is a time to gather together and form strong bonds of love and remembrance to help us all get through a rather difficult time of year.

I recently lost my father, and this will be my first holiday season without him, and I have noticed that I am not quite myself. I feel all sorts of emotions and I don’t even see them coming. So, on that level I can offer my own insights, but for those of you who have lost your loved one or who are longing for them to be at home with you my heart truly goes out to you.

The holidays bring about a certain amount of nostalgia, along with that comes wishing for warm memories of the past. This is where it gets quite difficult to bear.

For this holiday season take some time to remember, but also take time to reach out to others to make their season a bit smoother. It is through helping others that we can move beyond some our own pain and make a difference in the lives of others.

Having your Warrior home for the holidays is exciting, but it also offers some new challenges for them as well as for the family. Here are some practical tips for reducing stress in your household.

1) If your Warrior is home with you this year after being deployed, do your best not to expect that things will be the same.

2) Give your Warrior plenty of space and don’t demand that they join in the festivities. The commotion and chatter may create an undue amount of stress for them.

3) Inform your guests and family members not to ask questions. Just let things flow naturally without going into Iraq or Afghanistan. Let your Warrior direct the topic.

4) Discuss the plans with your Warrior. Let them know what the schedule of events consists of, and give them an option to bow out if they feel more comfortable doing so.

5) Fix some of your Warrior’s favorite dishes. This can certainly be a treat for them.

6) Watch the amount of alcohol that is passed around. Nothing is worse than someone who gets tipsy and starts spewing off without even giving it a second thought of how your Warrior may be affected.

7) It may be up to you to run interference to create a better environment from which to celebrate this holiday season.

8 ) Flexibility is the key here–what may have traditionally been standard protocol may need to be re-evaluated to accommodate and create a smooth landing for your Warrior.

9) Get plenty of rest in order to have the energy and resiliency to handle whatever comes your way.

10) Keep it simple. What may be of paramount importance to you may not have the same significance for your Warrior.

11) Don’t expect them to run errands for you because bright colors, crowds, and excess stimulation may push many buttons for them.

12) Don’t be over alarmed if your Warrior sits quietly, watches TV, plays video games or isolates, as this may be a healthy alternative and positive coping mechanism over the holiday season.

13) Bring out the board or card games and just enjoy the togetherness without getting into any heavy conversations.

14) If gift giving is part of your tradition, talk about cutting back and setting a limit on the amount spent.

15) Don’t be alarmed if your Warrior does not feel comfortable attending your place of worship as in the past. Just let it go and look at this as their way of reducing the stress by not being around people.

16) Be sure to set some personal, family and professional goals for this new-year.

Have a blessed holiday season, and may we all take this time to remember those who serve our country today and in the past. Let this holiday be the beginning of a year of filled with compassion, peace and kindness that we extend to all our fellow mankind.

With Deep Gratitude and Respect,

Christian Heritage Church hosted its 10th annual Biker Sunday on September 27. With an expected crowd of 5,000, this was set to be the biggest event yet!

The church also hosted the M25 National Summit during the same weekend. This gave summit attendees the opportunity to participate in more than a “classroom experience.” First, the group headed to the airport at 7:30 Saturday morning to greet a soldier returning from Iraq. The sight of more than 50 flags and banners welcoming the unsuspecting soldier was heartwarming. If the group had not shown up, this young man would have been greeted by just three family members. Instead, he received a true hero’s welcom, complete with a motorcycle escort.

Later that day, Summit attendees drove 75 miles to attend the military funeral of a fallen soldier. No one in the group knew the soldier, but they wanted to honor this young man’s sacrifice. Upon arriving at the funeral, M25 joined with the Patriot Guard Riders to line the street with nearly 100 flags as the soldier’s family and casket drove by. As the family drove by, they waved and mouthed “Thank you” to the riders who came to honor a young man they had never known. At the end of the procession small elderly “cowboy” walked up to one of the M25 riders and said, “Do you mind if I just stand here beside you?” The rider smiled and said, “Not at all.”

On Sunday, the church was filled with patches from several motorcycle ministries and clubs. Pastor Ox, an former outlaw biker from Tennessee, shared that the most important thing we can do for the lost and hurting is to love them. “Too often we overlook opportunities,” Ox said.

After the morning service, the church headed to Scooterz Bar, where hundreds of bikers were already lining up for the annual bike parade. This year’s parade included a military escort and flyover.

The bike parade is part of a Toys for Tots drive. There is nothing more heartwarming than watching a leather-clad biker drive down the street with a giant stuffed animal strapped to the back of the bike. These seemingly “tough” men and women proudly drive the eight mile parade route laden with toys and stuffed animals for needy children. As families lined the street to watch the parade, the riders waved and threw candy. Back at the church, the group collected enough toys to fill two seven-ton military trucks.

After several hours of bike games (which are hosted by local motorcycle clubs), attendees gathered round for the final event, the bike drawing. Each year, the church gives away a custom-built bike. And each year, they pray that God will give that bike to the right person. This year’s winner was a couple whose bike broke down during the parade. After winning the motorcycle, they told the church they want to come to Bible Study.

On the surface, Biker Sunday seems like a time of fun and games. But it’s actually a time to minister to those who might never set foot inside a church. It’s a time to show the community that the church loves them and accepts them no matter what.

Hosting a Biker Sunday may not be for every church, but everyone can do something to reach out to their community. What can your church do?

I accepted with deep appreciation for the opportunity.

This does several things for our efforts —

To truly be in a better spot to bring to focus our deep appreciation to these men and women for our Freedom of Religion as a church. That has been my main objective from the beginning. Felt it was an assignment from the Lord.

We will be able to position some M25 guys to help us accomplish this goal. We will be working with several of our guys to get them in places where we can serve – again – it is not a place to “preach”.

Our National Biker Missionary will once again serve as Missing Man Chaplain

Working on the Chaplain to head up the Chase Team

Chaplains in Platoons and Hydration Trailer

I have been in discussion with our IPHC missionary – Tim Moore. He has put in a request to do the run with us. This would be awesome seeing he is an active Chaplain. If he gets the orders okayed – I have asked him to speak in the Sunday morning service — He will have to write his sermon and submit it to JAG – once it is okayed – he will be able to speak in full dress uniform! This would be awesome — PLEASE PRAY FOR HIM TO FIND FAVOR (and pray that I will be able to find him a good Harley to ride across the country with us).

We are in a secure spot for the continual Hydration Trailer ministry

It is my opinion that we will be able to work in more info on our Campsite Ministry in DC

God has so honored our efforts over the past 5 years to be a light and not a mouth. God is teaching me much about Evangelism – Evangelism that does not turn people off and does not win a few but turn the multitude away.

Please do me one favor — the family I love dearly including my wife, the church I attempt to serve, the conference I attempt to lead are all getting a little weary of the schedule I am keeping — I am wired so that whatever I have to do – I will do to fulfill a mission once I feel my Commander (Jesus) has directed me to do – the fruit of our efforts has only fueled me to a higher level. PLEASE PRAY FOR THE RESOURCES TO COME IN WITHOUT ME TRAVELING 25,000 – 30,000 MILES TO GET ER DONE THIS YEAR. We really need $25,000 — last year we did not even make the $20,000.

Thanks for taking time to rejoice with me and in advance & we thank you in advance for your prayers.
