It's bluer than before. I decided to forgo keeping that emerald green bang and try to go a little more aqua this time with my hair color and cover more of my head this time around. I'm still not done with the color. I want it to be so much more brighter than it was before.

Making a lot of changes in my life right about now. I anticipated this month to be a little bit more awesome than it began. Started off shitty now I'm here. *Drake Voice* I look forward to the time I get to spend in Houston because I do absolutely the least when in L.A. Thank GAWD for my FRANZZZ that have been by my side helping me discover what it means to "turn up."

SXSW 2013

SXSW 2013. You were great. I'm tired. Thank you.

....but it really was awesome! I got so much free stuff. Dolce Vita gave away 500 pairs of shoes. I was so lucky to snag a pair of their Frankee platform oxfords. I got to hear the new Empire of the Sun album which is set to release in June and sounds absolutely amazing! I think my favorite part of the festival was the free food which I am a sucker for. Samsung Galaxy folks kept a girl full daily on grilled cheese and tacos.

Bands! I wish I spent more time on the other side of the 35 freeway around Gypsy and Hotel Vegas because they had a lot of awesome new music every time I passed by. I did finally get to see The Flaming Lips for the first time in ever in my life after I walked 2 miles to the Auditorium Shores. Jesus be a masseuse. I closed out my trip to SXSW by going to see Toro Y Moi at the Hype Machine Hype Hotel. Dude was yet again awesome.

Would I do SXSW again? Yes! For 6 Days? Um...TBD

Finally, a girl has her first pair of Dr.Martens. The limited edition Agnes Deyn for Dr. Marten collaboration with the super awesome bouncy platform sole is finally mine! After what seemed like months of pining for these babies I now have them.

I was long overdue for a new pair of boots since my Steve Madden Corley's fell apart a good 2 years ago.
The Dr. Marten Aggy 1490 boots are really comfortable once you break them in.

Good enough to last me years to come hopefully.

Time to leave you all with a song. This week I choose Mister Lies. Listening to a lot of these blissful sounds. Dude is definitely one to look out for in 2012. Looks like 90s babies are making headway in the music production scene.

I took my twists down which limits my options for Halloween a bit since I was going to either be Michonne fro "The Walking Dead" or Dionne from "Clueless" My other options range from "Coming to America" characters to Rachel True's character from "The Craft"
Less than 4 days away and I'm not on my A-game. For shame!

Anyway I want to put my twists back in soon because it's SO friggin' easy to manage. I just wake up and go! I did miss seeing my hair just a bit. I cut it two months ago because I was well overdue for a trim but now it seems to have grown back.

Also, I tried the whole vegetarian thing for a week after I broke my molar on a piece of bacon :( It was just OK. For me personally, I would rather change my diet to eating more veggies and less meat than to get rid of meat altogether. It doesn't particularly suit my lifestyle just yet. But hey, in the future, who knows ? This babe could go 100% veggie as long as I have my CHEESE!

Life is never easy when you're always moving. Finally settled into my own perfect little space. Well actually I haven't quite settled in yet. I have a nice walk-in closet that I can't actually walk in because I have mounds of clothes and luggage strewn everywhere.

It's been a hard day's night/last few months for me and I just would like a little bit of time for myself every now and then. There is always work and always errands when there isn't work. I haven't even been able to paint. The sheer joy I have now stems from my latest record purchase, Tame Impala's Lonerism. This album is a sheer yet vividly, colorful piece of work.

I'm pretty sure I want this song to play at my wedding. I teared up a bit when I first heard it. Okay I was crying but only because it was so beautiful. The guitar and haunting vocals. I just was submersed in good vibes.

Took a little vacay to my hometown of Houston,TX. I desperately needed a break. Working just as hard as Dolly Parton's support bras.

My jumbo senegalese twists are holding up fairly nice right about now. It helps to go in every 2 weeks or so for a touch-up which just means the perimeter around the front gets re-twisted. I'm contemplating taking them out soon and doing color for October but I'm so used to not doing anything to my hair at the "break" period is somewhat frightening. I wonder if my hair truly misses being tousled around.

My BFF Coco, did my nails while I was in town. Girlfriend loves her gel nails. I'm more of a one solid color girl. I haven't done fancy schmancy designs since high school when I thought I was Fergalicious. -_-

Yung Rapunxel

After I ran up and down the timelines of twitter like Paul Revere during his infamous midnight ride, I finally came home to my precious, Azealia Banks for MAC "Yung Rapunxel" lipstick. See me rocking it here It's that awesome deep 90s girl plum that I adore. I ordered this badboy at 5am the day it came out. It was only available online and in the MAC NYC stores; so I didn't want to risk it selling out, which it did. Alas, I love it and will probably wear the hell out of it this fall.

Speaking of things I'm indulging in, my senegalese twists are a fairly new addition to my protective style family. First box braids and now the senegalese twists. I like the look and feel of the twists more. They're not nearly as heavy as my box braids but my hair does have a tendency to outgrow them fairly quickly. I'm considering using purple Marley braid hair for my next style but jeez it's not 2.99 a bag like that good ole' silky kanekalon!

Photo heavy post. I finally decided to rock my purple Steve Madden Grettta platforms after they sat on the shelf for months. I pined for these lovelies all last summer and when I finally had them in my possession, I never wore them.

This is probably due to the fact that I purchased them in the fall and I wasn't not one of those college students that rocks heels to class.

I know I'm giving you 70s tea in these photos but I can't help the fact that my room looks like a 1975 shag shack. [insert Kanye-like shrug here]

In keeping in line with the vintage feel of the photos, I'm listening to Dionne Warwick.

Porch Paint

I spent some time this weekend getting back into the swing of things with my acrylics. It has been far too long since I painted anything. Well at least since February, which to me is still a long time.

After spending so much time at art galleries and museums in these past couple of months, I was full of motivation to go out and create any and everything. I plan on finishing any blank or incomplete canvas I have in my possession before summer's end.

Today, I believe I'll leave ya'll with a song that helped me keep the creativity flowing. I picked up on Tamaryn during my music pr internship. It reminds me of a 90s summer. I can picture Cher from Clueless driving down Rodeo Drive in her jeep playing this song.

Bliss Trill

Betty Davis has a lot of clothes. Well that's what my shirt says. The copy on it reads kind of like dialogue from Black Dynamite, can you dig?

Speaking of which, the new Black Dynamite cartoon is hilarious just like the film. I attended a screening for the film and pilot episode in June and literally keeled over from laughter for an hour and a half. I forgot how awesome that movie is.

While we're on the subject of awesome things, I've come across a lot of great new music in the month of July. Much of which I'd like to classify as "Trillwave" or "Bliss Trill." It's basically ambient music mixed with what we be considered a trill/ or trap-like infusion of sounds. The most prevalent being the 90s drum-machine. I've also heard other bloggers refer to this new take on music as future-trap and screwgaze. Either way, I find it to be very dope and wanted to share with ya'll in my latest mix:

BRAIDS

Guess who has braids now?

I'm in the second week of this "protective style" and for some odd reason, my hair is starting to peak out like the rose that grew from concrete. I've tried wrapping my hair up with a satin scarf but my hair is still showing out.

Does anyone who rocks braids/twists know what to do in this case? Perhaps braid sheen? Help a sister out!

By the way, I felt it was ever so appropriate to include music from BRAIDS in this post.

The latest mix that I put together was inspired by the fact that I really could use a vacation. I've been working muy hard..."so you better treat me right." (Hopefully somebody gets that pun R.I.P. Donna Summer)

I should've gotten my passport by now so I can venture across continental waters and see what it's like to be on a beach with clean water. God Bless Texas but the beaches....naw.

Hopefully, the next post will feature me with twists but me and bags of jumbo braid kanekolon are having major disagreements right now.

Pink Friday

I really was debated against calling this post "Pink Friday" but I'm wearing pink and it seemed oh so appropriate. As you can probably tell, my hair has given way. Blow-out is done. Curls are back for now until I can figure out what I'm going to do next. I want to try out some Jamaican Black Castor Oil and possibly grow my hair out a bit longer; say MBL/Mid-Back Length.

I finally got to see How to Dress Well's show at the Echo last Saturday. He was absolutely amazing. Someone in the crowd kept shouting, "R.Kelly!" His vocals are like gold. Very rare that I've witnessed such blissful high notes and falsettos. He played a few songs from his upcoming album which were super wicked and I am such a music fangirl that I'm most likely going to pre-order it. His last album, "Love Remains" was so decadent. I would get it on vinyl if I had a record player.

Next Purchase: Record Player, Projector & Space Ghost Coast to Coast DVDs.

I usually don't post too much on specific fashion lines but I'm a product of the 90s so naturally these two lines caught my eye. I've known about Ashish for a while but I'm not too familiar with Blumarine. What I do know is their color scheme bathes in my childhood. At one point, my favorite color was, "hologram," thanks to Lisa Frank.

Ying Yang symbols, Smiley Faces and Reflective rainbow hologram-cyber material love rocks my world.

Summer of Film

Someone asked me about film suggestions on tumblr a while ago and I swore I would do a Top 10 list of my all time favorite films. However, let's just live for the moment. Here are a couple of film suggestions for those nights where you just want to stay in and let the air conditioner run with no lights on so your place looks like every music video ever made in the early 2000s. And by that I mean Ginuwine- "So Anxious".

2046 is Wong Kar Wai's 2004 follow-up film to "In the Mood for Love," which I have yet to see unfortunately. This film is about a writer, Chow who has affairs with several women in a Hong Kong hotel. You can imagine there is an intense amount of unrequited love in this film. Hence, why I'm so intrigued by it. I'm not one for mush-y notebook-esque films. This one was raw in emotion and bewildering in imagery. I really should own it.

The next film I'm suggesting is 1970s' A Swedish Love Story. I actually was introduced to this film after I watched a music video for Thieves Like Us- "Shyness."

If you want a thorough description for this film, I can't give it to you because I was confused in certain bits of the film. The film is about 2 youths, Par and Annika in Sweden who are going through all of the awkwardness of adolescent relationships along with their really strange families. There was some weird stuff going on in this film. For instance, there was one character called, "Ice-Man," who randomly punches Annika's sister, Eva in the face while they were laughing and enjoying some sort of sit-down party. Color me confused. I'd still watch it several times though.

Feeling very much like Washed Out- "Echoes"

Trying to make this blow-out last on my hair as you can see here It's my first summer in L.A. with no school on the horizon. My mind has to get used to having free time. I can pursue what I very well please at this point and that means REALLY exploring L.A. and going to shows, art spaces, hidden nature spots.

I'm amazed at how little I know about L.A. after being here for 3 years. I can however, point anyone in the direction of some bomb food spots.

I meant to post my hair photos before I did my graduation post. I didn't want to throw you guys completely off. Of course, if you follow me on twitter or saw the video I uploaded there wasn't too much of a surprise there.

Over 2 years of not straightening my hair and this is the result. I had my hair done at Dominican Elegance salon in L.A. by Resha. I wanted a real pin-up look to match my Bettie Page dress and Voila! It's just a blow-out and flat-iron ya'll. No chemicals here. Luckily, I live in L.A. where there is little to no humidity so getting a blow-out is fairly practical unlike Houston where your hairstyle disintegrates in a little under an hour.

I think I'll keep it like this for a while. I feel different; mainly because I don't have to be on the defense when someone attempts to put their hand in my hair.

I bought the Bear in Heaven album, "I Love You, It's Cool" this weekend after months of playing it on Spotify and I can honestly say it was worth every penny. Very rarely is an album good from start to finish. The only great examples are Tame Impala, Radio Dept and most Michael Jackson albums. I hate I missed their show in L.A.

I also missed Black Moth Super Rainbow this past Saturday! WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?! Why do I do these things?!

However, I did get to see Dark Shadows. I'm a pretty huge Tim Burton fan so I guess that's cool. Ya'll should definitely check out the Bear in Heaven video for "Reflections of You." I know they released the "Sinful Nature" video today but I like this song more. NOTE: If you full screen this video, you might get DIZZY! I warned you.

Girl Talk set at the Outdoor Stage

You guys...somehow I got a whirlwind of good luck and was able to attend not one but both weekends of Coachella. If you follow me on twitter, I'm sure you've heard my rants. This year's line-up was pretty solid. saw sets from M83 (who didn't perform "Kim and Jessie"- WTH MAN!), The Weeknd, Gotye, Frank Ocean, Neon Indian, The Growlers, Santigold, tUnE-yArDs, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Justice, Girl Talk, Miike Snow, Thundercat, and The Rapture which was my favorite show because I danced so hard.

I hate I missed Madeon, SebastiAn, Yuck, Real Estate and Band of Skulls. I saw a bit of Mazzy Star and obviously the infamous Tupac hologram which sort of made me feel kind of weird. Maybe if the hologram performed "I Get Around", "Keep Your Head Up" or anything without the slightly morbid church bells that "Hail Mary" has on the track I could walk away from that not feeling like I've seen a ghost.

Weekend 1 will be known as Cold-chella because for the most part it was cold and rainy all weekend except for Sunday whereas weekend 2 averaged over 100 degrees each day. I had a lot of fun despite having a stupid toothache again (I'm always getting toothaches aren't I? Presumably from eating too many starches.) Now, no more partying until I stroll across the stage in exactly 1 month.

Sundays spent in Los Feliz with my banana pepper and my favorite sweater. This by far had to been one of the most mellow birthdays I've ever had except for the random trip to Cheetahs in Los Feliz at 12AM and my epic birthday dance...

I really didn't want to do much because Coachella is around the corner and it's quite the expensive fiasco. So no moon bounce and pinata this year. On the bright side, I finally got my T.U.K. mondo creepers and a Still Corners CD. What I really wanted was Miniature Tigers new album, Mia Pharoah, but it was still sold out at Amoeba. How can you not love this "Cleopatra" track?

This weekend, I attended the KisforKinky and Beautiful Textures natural hair meetup in downtown L.A. Lots of beautiful ladies with big hair.

Yours truly opted to put for an updo because Saturday morning in L.A. was as humid as any day in Houston.
