In other news, I have a 9am appt tomorrow with a dietitian at the hospital. It seems I have FINALLY been diagnosed with diabetes. I took the 1-hr glucose tolerance test and my blood sugar was 240!!! The nurse was freaking out.  I didn’t even have to go back for the 3-hr test…just straight to the dietitian.  I just KNOW I already had it before I was pregnant, but the stupid clinic at my school couldn’t test for it. So, at least now I’m under the care of a doctor. But it sucks because I have always eaten whatever I wanted and I’m terrified to prick myself 4xs a day (starting tomorrow).

Anyway, yesterday I got this woman that was the WORST. First she went to hear my baby’s heartbeat like usual. There’s a little wand thing that’s kind of like a microphone and they place it on your tummy and you can hear it. Well, this lady I guess was having a hard time cause she starts thrusting it into my stomach SO hard like she’s trying to get it through my skin or something! Hubby was there and his eyes got so wide! LOL! She just kept moving it around and pushing down really hard cause she wanted to “hear it louder” and it hurt soooo bad. Then she’s like, “for some reason it keeps moving away.” And I’m thinking UH YEA I WONDER WHY! YOU’RE ABUSING IT! I’m sure it was uncomfortable for the baby too!

So, she finally decides she’s done listening to the heart. Then she measures my stomach/makes some random chit chat I can’t understand. Then she’s like “I’m going to try to feel it a little bit!” And I’m like huh? She attacks my stomach again but this time with both hands and starts grabbing around. I thought hubby was gonna get up and ask her to stop. She was pushing so hard she could probably feel my spine. Then she stops and grabs this one spot like “what do we have here?” This was the most painful part. Then she’s like “here’s the head!” And she actually had her hand 3/4 of the way around his head in a good grip. She was like “want to feel?” and of course before I answered she just took my hand and put it around the head. Very freaky feeling but I felt it! I really just wanted her to let go. It was awful and seemingly pointless.

I was so happy when we left and Shane was like “that looked so painful!!!! are you okay????” I probably should have just been like STOP! If my baby is born with one eye I’ll know who poked the other one out! My stomach still hurts today.

Anyone else had a baby before? Is “feeling” the baby like that normal??? They’ve never done that at any of my other visits. Usually just feel the top of my uterus to make sure I’m growing properly.

1. While doing chores around the house, make the time fly by putting on some fun or sexy music! Maybe your spouse will see how much fun cleaning is he’ll even decide to join you. *wink*
2. If you do dishes by hand, switch from your regular dish soap to Dawn Hand Renewal w/ Olay. Sounds simple, but it has transformed my hands from being cracked/dry to smooth and soft with very little effort.
3. Exercise and eat right. You’ll just feel better about yourself and everything happening around you. Plus, you don’t have to have an hour of free time to get a workout in. 4. Schedule time for yourself. Slip into a hot bubble bath or have some friends over for a spa day and apply clay face masks! Curl up in a corner with a book. Whatever relaxes YOU.
5. Schedule a date night with your spouse. Take turns choosing how you’ll spend your night. That way both of your, erm, “desires” can be met. Try to mix up the activities each week to keep from falling back into a rut.

My Baby this Week

Your baby’s growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at just over a pound. Since he’s almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he’ll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing “branches” of the respiratory “tree” as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.

I’ve been doing pretty alright lately. Morning sickness is completely gone, now I’ve just got heartburn, backache, and swelling feet to deal with. I’ll take all of that over vomiting several times a day. I can also suddenly feel him moving all the time now. This past week Shane put his hand on my stomach and felt a kick from the outside for the first time! It was pretty special.

Now off to church. My hubby is preaching today and I just now found out! Hopefully all goes well- he’s nervous! Work after that.

Today is a good day! A mini snow storm hit this morning and I actually got the day off work! YEA snow day! I slept in and am spending the rest of the day inside where it’s warm. I’ll probably end up studying anatomy/physiology for a few hours at least.

In other news, we’re making a lot of progress on clearing out the baby’s room. Shane has been such a sweetheart lately. He moved the bookshelf/all of its contents into the living room (which took some rearranging). Now all that’s left is tubs of comic books and a LOT of posters/crap on the walls. I’m starting to feel better about it.

AAAAANNNNNNNNDDDDDD yesterday, Shane bought me my valentine gift early…I was at work (I work at a flea market) and this guy brought in this huge jewelry armoire for $65. We were able to get it for $55. I FINALLY HAVE SOMETHING THAT CAN HOLD ALL OF MY JEWELRY! It all fit and wasn’t completely crammed. There was also a top compartment that I was able to put my hair ties/clips in, which is great because they have never had a place in our tiny apartment bathroom. It also has a door on each side that opens to reveal hooks for my millions of necklaces! I’m in love<3

Anyway, today I decided it was time to just whip our apartment into shape. Baby or not, I’m tired of the counter & sink overflowing with dishes and not being able to see the living room floor. We let it all pile up and then when someone is coming over, we have to clean for 24+ hours straight to make it look presentable! I know it’s going to be even harder when Noah get’s here, so it’s probably a good idea to get in the habit now. The solution = I wrote up a basic weekly cleaning checklist in Excel and posted it on the fridge.  HERE IT IS if you’d like to take a look or even modify it to fit your own place!
