I often tell the couples I would with that I do whatever needs to be done in order to get the shot or the angle that I want, whether that involves getting out onto the dance floor, wearing waders in a lake, or even climbing a small cliff tree to get it. Today I got to climb a tree because Chance and Erinn brought a hammock to the engagement shoot. We had a great time hiking around the Sacramento River, and when we got tired, took a little nap.

P.S for those wondering, I did not fall out of the tree. I handed my camera to my wife and had a nice controlled landing into a grass pile.

I gotta give these two some major credit. They have twins to take care of, they just had a newborn baby and they still find time to look so cute together. We couldn't resist turning their engagement session into a mini photo-shoot with the kids as well and getting a few cute family shots! We also couldn't resist taking a few pictures in front of a beautifully restored prop plane either since we got permission to photograph at an airport.

When two of our close friends got engaged, we were honored to be asked to do their engagement photos. We took a hike around Lake Clementine and the Confluence in Auburn. I also conveniently got a new photography toy, known as a "Drone" with a GoPro attached to it, so I got to try out a new angle with the drone when we got to the Lake Clementine Dam, while Alaina Photographed them from eye level, I got a higher view point.

Don't let the rain in the last picture fool you. This wedding was in June and the entire day was beautifully sunny, the weather was warm, and the blacktop HOT. But that combination made for a great sendoff as the rain started up a few minutes before the bride and groom drove off from the reception in their Jeep to start their new adventure together.

I love weddings because you never know what may happen on the day of the wedding. This was a great example of that. At the wedding we photographed yesterday, the weather was supposed to be clear and sunny in Grass Valley, instead we got some rain. Today was supposed to be 100 percent chance of Rain today, instead we got sunny and 90+ degree weather and it couldn't have turned out any better at the beautiful chapel on the University of the Pacific campus. Afterwards we made our way over to the rooftop cafe in the heart of Stockton right off the Pier.

Today I got to experience a new thing in the field of photography. TEACHING! I was invited to a local high school to teach a yearbook class on framing and composition. As most of you know, I love to talk, and get others into photography. This class was definitely different for me. I am used to teaching one on one, where it is a back and forth conversation between student and teacher. I prefer it that way, so I can make sure that the student understands the material before we move on. This was a complete different change of what I was used to since it was me doing all the talking and they just listened and there was hardly any back and forth interaction between us.

Overall It went well. I also left a little time at the end of the class to allow for questions. Well that started off really rocky, but finally I got a question after a minute of silence about what kind of stuff I do that is unique or different that not too many others offer. I started to talk about painting with light using all sorts of light sources such as sparklers, spotlights, lasers, even the flash that is on your phone. They started getting more interested as I started showing all the fun things they could do just with a tripod, and a light source.

It was such an interesting topic that many of them stayed in class even after the bell rang and were actively asking questions about how they can try it as well It was an awesome thing to see their eye light up as I showed them a new concept and for them to be so interested in it. Definitely made me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside.

Of course, I took along my Gopro to take video so I could learn from this experience and improve on my lesson for the next time I get the chance to teach a high school class.

I got called out! What am I going to do about it?

I will be one of the first to admit I am not the best when it comes to social media. Ask me how to take apart a computer and put it back together, I can do that. Ask me to take great engagement and wedding photos, I can do that. Ask me how to use a hashtag, or tweet, or anything about blogging, I will give you a blank stare. So that takes me to being called out. One of my previous clients gave me a review about my wedding photography a few days ago on weddingwire.com( you can read my reviews Here and in the review he mentioned that my blog was definitely lacking and "blah" to quote him so since it is the new year, I am going to make it a resolution to keep my blog up to date this year. I am also going to try to put up previous clients weddings and engagements, and I might even throw in photoshoots that I did for fun or for personal projects. That is what a blog is about after all right? So be sure to stay tuned and see if I make my new years resolution. Also please subscribe to my RSS feed(whatever that is) if I have subscribers, I will be more pressured to post things, since others are watching me.

I will admit I have had great success with word of mouth referals, however i have decided that if I want to break 100 weddings this next year, I will need a lot more leads and referals. So i have bitten the bullet and joined weddingwire.com.

Audrey and Gary's Backyard wedding

This wedding was a blast to photograph. There was a lot of fun and dancing to be had, and lots of ideas brought to life from pinterest board all across the backyard. The dress was made by the bride, and the color was totally appropriate considering her last name. The father and daughter did an amazing Russian dance that involved a lot of jumping and energy. The food was delicious and catered by the fathers company. The Husband is an antiques dealer, what does that mean? That means the bouquet was awesome, consisting of silver broaches, some of which were older then myself.

Audrey and Gary Engagement Session

I love shooting engagement sessions in downtown Sacramento. Why? Within 100 feet of walking down the street we can change the entire scene and look of the pictures. We started out at the candy shop of course, who can resist free taffy? Continued walking around by the pier and walked down to the water and explored a few rusty bridges. Then we ducked into the alleyways and into a record shop that I had never known was there. That is my other favorite part of downtown Sacramento, I always discover something new while shooting there and always get great pictures like the ones below.

As some people may know, I do work a lot and I am also in school full time. But I have been able to get some time and start working on catching up on my blog, so I will be trying to post pictures from the last few weddings from 2012. All the couples have recieved their copies of the pictures and now its just time for me to start posting them as soon as I get the ok.

The Brazil room in Oakland is always a great place to shoot a wedding at. The trees in the background are amazing, and the reception hall is beautiful. It has an old school cabin feel to it. Warm and inviting, just like a wedding should be. We started the day off in downtown and got to go jaywalking as we took some awesome pictures of the bride and her bridesmaids in the middle of the bustling streets. With the groom we switched it up and took them to the top of the hotel where they were getting ready and did shots that showed the entire city(with permission of course) All in all, awesome day with a wonderful couple. Congratulations to Layla and Eric on their wedding, it went off without a hitch.

I love shooting weddings on the beach. The morning always has a great calm fog over the day, then the sun shines through just as the wedding is about to start, and we have a beautiful ceremony. Its even more fun when we get to go to the beach and take more great shots there for the romantics. This one took the cake when I got to climb onto a glass ceiling above the dance floor to shoot down onto the party below.

Today was a day of many names, most of them being Rob. The grooms name is Rob, The grooms dad's name is Rob. There is a groomsmen named Rob. Add on top of that the fact that both photographers Are named Rob and you are in for a very confusing day. But everything went smoothly and Congrats to Catherine and Rob(The Groom)!

When a wedding is on Cinco De Mayo, you know its going to be a fun wedding. It may start out normally, in a nice quiet catholic church with a beautiful bride, and a handsome groom. But the next thing you know, you are racing alongside the car that the bride and groom are in, hanging outside with a camera trying to snap the perfect moment. I love shooting weddings!

These last two days have been quite interesting because they have been a day of firsts. This has been the first Indian wedding ceremony that I have done, and also it has been the first wedding that I have done where it was broken up across 2 days. The couple is Stephanie and Abhi Kumar and they were awesome to work with, they are so nice, friendly and definately photogenic. So it was an awesome two days.

The venue was at the Grand Island mansion in Walnut Grove, CA. For those that have never been fortunate enough to have been there, it is a beautifully secluded mansion along the river about 30 minutes from Sacramento.

The first day was pretty standard. The weather was good although it was very windy outside, the bride looked gorgeous in her wedding dress, and it was a fantastic location.

Today was a very nice day for shooting a wedding at Visalya winery in Sonora. Started the day out meeting up with Natalie and her gorgeous bridesmaids at the hotel. Then over to the vineyard to photography Ryan and his twin brothers hanging out in the wine cellar, relaxing before the wedding. The ceremony went off without a hitch, and we had a fun time dancing in the cellar. Its also the first time I have seen cake thrown at the bride!

I had a great day today shooting Dave and Vanessa Karell's wedding today. Its not everyday that you get to shoot a wedding for a member of a christian motorcycle club. It was an awesome country side wedding in Galt, CA. We had a blast especially since this is the first wedding I have ever shot with a bouncy castle! Go Dave for scoring a castle! Also got to try out drawing with light. An idea I got from Rob Robertson (www.robertcristie.com)

Great day at Mare Island

Rob and I had a great day at Mare Island photographing Luke and Kristine's wedding. Mare island is like stepping into a new dimension. There are new houses and a few hundred feet down the road is a gorgeous little chapel where the ceremony took place. And another hundred feet from there is a shipyard which is half abandoned, Which made for a great back drop. Congratulations Luke and Kristine
