Koko wa Samurai no Kuni da - from Gintama -

I'm super sleepy .. I am sorry if this article will have lots of grammatical errors. Duh..

One of my favorite, I think Gintama without this score is not Gintama. I guess, this is a signature work -- my personal phrase for a significant work from a composer, usually even he/she works on different title of film, you can 'feel' that it's his/her work. But in this case, since it is my fist time to encounter Audio Highs, I haven't find other than Gintama. But for me, this score is just like a conclusion of the whole Gintama series.

Feel free to change the main instrument. It's not a hard composition, so I am pretty sure any of you can play it. Accompaniment can be piano or classic guitar. I might love classic guitar, because it can create a more quiet feeling. But as usual, no restriction of accompaniment. Feel free to take care the whole song by yourself, especially pianist and keyboardist, or collaborate with your friend or mentor.

PS: Please note that the correct composer for the whole Gintama series is Audio Highs and not Kamagata Eichi. It is a general error that in every website, it is written as

Main Theme - GENJI: Dawn of Samurai

Allo! Today's menu is from GENJI, a video game which the soundtrack was worked by Takanashi Yasuharu. As I expected, Takanashi gave the 'heavy' feeling for this video games and of course, the Japanese traditional flavor was truly tasty in the whole album. If you didn't yet feel like you acknowledge Takanashi, he was working in several anime titles such as Naruto Shippuuden, Jigoku Shoujo, and Shiki.

The Main Theme from GENJI is actually a simple one but what makes it great is Takanashi's ability to put the correct sounds that given a feeling of "glamour" without overdoing it. The theme is self, for me, is quite emotional, which is rare.

If you play as solo, you can choose to play the lower notes or the higher one. If you choose the higher one, simply create by yourself for some bars which have no written higher notes. The score is actually applicable for many instruments, including brass, strings, and of course the percussion (uh, I cannot make percussion sheet music, anyway!).

An Idea!

I think, it is interesting to play this as a group of electronic instruments. Anyway, the original score is using drum set, so it is still make sense to 'transform' the orchestra sounds into a band. In this case, a keyboardist can control all the strings and brass sounds, if she/he wants. The cello/contrabass can be take care by bassist and the main melody, somehow is still sound nice if you try with electric guitar.

However, you still can treat this as a modern chamber also. Drummer, bassist, electric guitar, keyboardist are staying on their position. But you take in some brass players and choir! Yes, if you listen carefully, the original score has choir inside.

COPIC Tutorial

Hey, I suppose to post around 12 hours ago but I am having flu.

Well, quite long I didn't go hunting tutorials and I found these 2 tuts that I find useful.

The first one is a basic use on how to handle COPIC especially how to refill and finding where to buy it online. This tutorial is provided by hallistorkx3 at deviantart. Go to the page. You must click Download Image to see the tutorial.

Another one is a trick on how to color with COPIC and pencil. This means, you don't use pen or ink to do the outline of your drawing. The tutorial is made by yaichino from deviantart. Go to the page

For the first time, I work something for mandolin.

I wonder, though, if there is anyone who plays mandolin but still, this piece can be played by other strings like guitar. Note that for mandolin, you must play it in tremolo. If you play with violin or other instruments, no restriction is needed. I personally love the sound of mandolin and the tremolo here enrich the message of the music itself.

Accompaniment is best using guitar but no restriction. Easily, you can replace it with piano or strings quartet if you want.

Yasashisa ni Tsutsumarete - 1 liter no Namida

Back with the sheet music. Been a while not posting something from j-dorama. I am thinking that 1 Liter no Namida or 1 Liter of Tears is a good start. The drama has given impact for so many people who had watched it. The franchise of 1 Liter of Tears are consist of dorama version, film version, and of course the book.

The story -- especially the dorama version is really moving. Considering as a 'ballad' story, this is not a cry baby story. Instead, it is full of positive energy to put the best effort to survive life, both for normal and the patients. It is portrayed in the full soundtrack of 1 Liter of Tears that all the dramas inside: the happy time, the sad, the tensions, and the spirit.

Yasashisa ni Tsutsumarete will bring you to the calm moments, flowing smoothly in simplicity. I am not an expert in guitar, but I do think it is played by 2 guitarists at least, and 3 at most. Correct me if I am wrong.

Nothing is hard from the sheet. I think if you're beginner, you can also try this song either play on melody or chords.

Ninja Gaiden 3: How Delicious would it be?

I know that some of you are true gamers,.. well, comparing to me whom rarely play (tehee!) It is great that I just got this news from Tecmo Koei’s Community Manager, Chin Soon Sun via his Facebook about his interview recently.

I build up my curiousity as I read the interview and as I scroll the questions and answers, it really tickles my mind to taste the game. Nazih Fares (or Ozimandu), the interviewer from at7addak.com surely questions some basic thing we would like to know. So please read Interview: Chin Soon Sun, as Chin revealed from plots to stage difficulties, and if you're crazy about Hayabusa Ryu, then the interview is worth to read. :D Sorry, I cannot reveal it here, because I want you to read there :D

Honoka na Koi - PEACE MAKER Kurogane

Another simple and clean tune. This time from PEACEMAKER Kurogane.

The tune foro main melody is easy. So, Beginners, it's your chance to play. The accompaniment is also pretty basic. You might encounter 2 non-basic chords, but it's not hard, in my opinion. As usual, all help for chords are given.

Processing the sheet

Even though this piece is not hard to work, I find out that the tempo has slightly changed. Though it was a minor differences, it is still give impact to my..... metronome :D From tempo 70 and jump tp 72 at bar 20th, yes,... it gives the impact. But let's not scared the Beginners. I think it will be fine for Beginners to play from beginning to the end in only one selected tempo: either 70 or 72. Since 2/3 of the music is using 72 as the tempo, why not you just stick with this tempo?

Intermediate to expert players are expected to perform as what is is written but.. creativity, interpretation, and spontaneity are more important. Play it with your style.

So, play alone or in group?

Up to you. This tune is adaptable with solo, duet, or even trio.

Reconciliation - Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi

Hello again and I hope you guys are in full spirit to start your routine back.

I come up with Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi, as one of my favorite anime. It's pity that the story was 'forced' to finish so soon. For an anime with ancient period as the background, this is surely interesting. Why? Simply because Ootani Kou - the composer, tried to make the whole OST has energy from 'today'. It does not necessarily has to be sounded with Japanese traditional music structures, instead, he plays around with jazz and chinese influence.

Reconciliation is one of his work in this anime with chinese influence and easy mood style. I do believe beginner-intermediate violinist can play this. The highest note is E (mi), so it means you will encounter changing position. For beginners, force the part 1 octave lower so you will be able to handle it.

Both tune and chords are pretty simple. So I believe most of beginners whom learning other instrument can play this sheet as well.

Let's just start it.

I divided the sheet music into 3 pages, even that the music only needs one page. One is for 3 instruments (directly in one page) where clef of F and clef of G are included there. The other 2 pages are for solo performance, for example: violin (clef of G) or cello (clef of F). So in case you want to perform solo, I already transcribed only for one clef. If you need clef of C (for example: viola), let me know.

It is not a heavy music, basically pretty easy tune for both melody and chords. So I wish the beginners are trying to play. Originally it was played with cello, piano, and guitar.

First sheet music at the beginning of the year.

So this is a request that I finished on December. Not really hard to work with. Both tune and accompaniment's part are easy to work, thank God ;)

So, I think Beginner-Intermediate can try this for the melody part. Bassist and guitarist(s) may improvised their playing. Nothing is really strict with this song.

I skipped the rap parts because.. it's rap :D hard for me to put it. (Anyone really need melody for rap? ,... I don't think so...)

Sheet music is equipped with lyric and translation from Words of Songs, packed in the rar. I modified a little of the lyric to fit the sheet music system that I made. Modification only appear at the last part, to fit the B2' part lyric.

At last, we're on 2012! ^_^

Welcome back and as promised on the last announcement, I will reveal some plan (which hopefully can be worked) for this year.

Sheet Music Project
Seeing all my own transcribed work, I just feel I need to do extra work. So I decided to make at least 90 new sheet music and released 8 to 10 each month. From December last year, I did a massive research, download, getting involved with people who love anime/drama/film/video games and see what music that I should studied. I had gathered around 30 new titles and I was 'walking through' for each title's music scores. So you can imagine hundreds of tunes if each title consist of 20 tracks. After selecting then I keep the files on my "The Best" folder; waiting to be worked on.

So far, around 30 sheets music are on going right now. Ten of it had totally finished which mean, we are saved for this month :D

I don't want to put too much of target, as I am afraid not being able to accomplish. It is good if I can finish 140 -- which is the actual number I have to make by looking on the statistic, the profit I've on 3 years, and other statistical reason. But to reach 90 will be not easy, as I am working on various things on my life. That is why I force a massive work from December because I know I have to leave this site some times. So 90 is my realistic number right now.

Sheet music will be varied from anime to game music. Anime will still have the biggest percentage, follows by drama, film, and games. The thing is, I tried to be broader, from classic to the newest on the latest trend if supported sound samples are available.

As I am progressing to learn more music score, I meet new and nice people who let me linked their files to our forum link bank. So I will gradually add them as much as I can. Most of the links are sound samples, the rest are scanned sheet music. Keep checking here as monthly I will announce the additional links for you.

Suddenly, Last Night --- 009-1

Well,... at last, we are at the very last night of 2011. I feel nervous and amazed that somehow I can pass this year after so many dramas on my life. My heart is pounding and I am looking forward for 2012 as I preserve the memories of 2011.

I am writing this while hearing Suddenly, Last Night -- a tune from 009-1. The first time I heard it, I felt like 'wow... this is so romantic! so Hollywood! So american movies!' And when I checked the composer's name, I was more amazed... 'whaaattt? Iwasaki Taku made jazz? Don't be kidding!!' But yes, he did. It was proven that my collection of his works was less than expected, so I missed to hear broader style of music from Iwasaki.

All About The First

This sheet is my first attempt to work with brass and woodwinds sounds. I am not really sure about the octave range, so for now I still leave it for Clef of G. More than that, this is also my first time to seriously work with jazz sounds and having difficulties to find the correct chords. I think, I spent 1 hour only to write the melody, and 2 hours straight to write the chords. I think, from all of sheet I'd ever wrote, this one has so much Chord's guidance. Not to forget, this is the first sheet I am working with so many tuplets.

Suddenly, Last Night is a romantic and sweet tune. I am pretty shock that nobody ever transcribe it (oh, let me know if there's any..) All the brass that played as main tune was played sweetly. The accompaniments - piano, guitar, strings - just fill all the gaps structurally and nicely.

Difficulty

The main tune is not really hard. Pay attention to how you produce the sound of your instrument to avoid a 'harsh' sound. Even that in original performance it was played with several brass instruments, it can be a solo. And you can be accompanied with only piano or guitar. Pay attention to the tuplets, especially for beginners. So far, I would recommend the intermediate to expert students to play. Beginners and Beginners-Intermediate can use this sheet as an 'etude' of studying tuplets and various change of tunes (massive changes of sharps, flats, and naturals).

Accompaniment's Note

I personally choose piano as accompaniment if only performed by 2 people. Simply because it is played in lower octaves which balanced the sweetness of the melody. However, this is my personal choice. If it is played by guitar, I advise to have one more guitarist or bassist or a violoncello to handle the bass sound.

Since it's a jazz tunes, it has a lot of chords to play and sometimes it's to close one each other. I have it hard to write them in one straight line. So to specific bar, I have to force one of the chord to go down a little. The picture I put here must be used for part C and C', especially on specific bars as mentioned below:

- bar 35 and 39 of page 1
- bar 67, 71, 75, and 79 of page 2.

All "Am/F#" should be played when melody is on E (mi), and chord "F#dim/B" should be played when melody is on D (re).

Possibility for Public Performance

Well, if you can influence your music teacher to teach the class to play, why not? Anyway, this tune is very flexible. It can be performed by group band of 5 players to a full orchestra. It is so flexible that I can see possibility for drummer to take part.

When I heard this tune, I just know this will suit for my finale post of 2011. Suddenly, I realize that I am so happy and blessed to meet a lot of Japanese soundtrack enthusiasts. Its almost a wrap for 2011. Supposedly this is the last 'random' posting from me. Having 3 years on this blog or website has cheer up my life, probably also sharping my skills on internet and music. Comparing to the year 2009 which I could committed to write a lot, this year was decreased. I tried to be more strict with schedule but of course there were things happened out of the schedules.

Overall, I am satisfied with whatever I could push for this year:
- more sheet music from drama and film
- accepting more requests and able to finished them on schedule.
- better ranks in some websites. (thanks to you, guys!)
- widen the collection to forum that support links to other resources.
- doing extra experiments to make more people come here (thanks to keep coming and downloading!)

It's a bumpy year for me, personally, and the world, but we have to keep going on. I wish you all to be able to achieve whatever you plan for the next year, whatever you dream on.. Work on it, stay focus, and don't give up.

The last sheet music of 2011 will be posted on December 30th or 31st, and what's my plan for the 2011 will be posted on the first post at January 2012.

Haruiru no Kaze - Fuujin Monogatari

Back with the sheet music. This time a score from Fuujin Monogatari or sometimes called Windy Tales for non-Japanese viewers. Crafted for flute(s), this is a simple and lite composition from Kawai Kenji. Somehow, the quality is near enough to Daily from Gundam 00 but tempo is much faster.

I think even a beginner can try this one with any instrument you are learning right now. The chords are also easy. So, with no more talks, let's play! :D

Orochi 2 - PlayStation3™

HUAAAAA! <3 <3 When I saw this, I cannot help myself but to rant here (>.>) I've been ages not playing Orochi 2 and when I see this I just feel that I really really want it. The PS3 version is - of course - much better. The graphic, as I see the review, looks much smoother and d@mn, those bishounen!! (T_T) I waaaannnntt!

Now that I just remember,.. you might find this awkward but when I had difficulties to study violin, and because I was actually super rare on gaming, I bought Orochi and Sengoku Musou to help me "connecting my brain and my hands". And actually, it worked well. How? Because my eyes had to focus on the map and let my hand directed it. So it was my training. You won't believe that I really had difficult time just to be focus and able to command my brain, working properly. Lol, I couldn't even control my horse and it kept struck on something :D Even my brother looked at me strangely because it really took time for me to play. In that time, I used PS2. So the feeling was quite alike as I was handling violin while my eyes reading the notes at my music book.

So.. ok, I stop ranting :D Anyway, price is probably too expensive, but hey,.. it is still on the top demand. So, I do believe this is still worth to get.

Probably some of you notices that some years ago I usually put up review or recommendation on Game and Book where you can directly buy it. So, that's what I am about to bring back.

Yuuyake no Kaze - Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Iroha ni Hoheto

This was my first longest anime title I had encounter (and memorized it).

I love this anime. I think, I love the fact that the guy was sooooooo bishounen and the story was kinda dark. Two great combo. Since I watched it very long time ago, I couldn't remember exactly but I think Yuuyake no Kaze was an instrumental version from a 'folk' song in that series.

The main melody is not hard to play. I think, whether you play it with piano, violin, woodwinds, or whatever instruments you are good at, you can play it without the need to hear the music. So, I am very pleased if beginner stage try this BGM.

Original accompaniment was using harp and easily can be replaced with piano or guitar. The point of this song is to keep everything minimalist and give strong performance to the main melody.

BRAVE - Sengoku Basara 2

Done the manual transcription almost a year ago but too lazy to digitalize it :D At last, thing goes as it must. So here it is, Brave from Sengoku Basara 2, one of my favorite song (and favorite game, as mostly there are bishounen.. hehehehehe).

Not much difficulty to work with. Actually feeling excited with all the challenge this song provided. I love the changing signature, which help this song brighter. I decided only put a little help for opening melody (intro) and the interludes. This is to keep the main part (vocal) does not overlap with other melodies.

Notes for Musicians

Organist, Keyboardist, or Electone player will encounter the glissando (gliss.) which is the fun part of the song, unless it is performed by a singer. For piano, I think, just ignore the gliss. Other musician, like guitar and violin can do the gliss part.

Even though the chords are pretty challenging, I guess you would be able to play. As usual, I already give the keys for unusual chords.

Okuribito (on record) - Okuribito (film)

One of the beautiful music from Okuribito, a film that led Japan to Oscar. Aside from brilliant story -- which I won't recommend to be watched by underage -- the music was nicely composed. I think this score, especially, had conclude everything and once you finished watching (if you're adult already), you still want to hear the score again and again.

I don't know how hard to play this on cello. I only touched and played cello once,.. so I cannot give an exact recommendation. But, if possible, it is great for a beginner to try. If you're a truly beginner, the changing signatures from 4/4 to 2/4 may be a challenge; but I still believe it's not too hard.

It's hard to get other instrument but piano as accompaniment. But classic guitar is possible. So guitarist, please try and hijack the accompaniment part!

To make it more universal, I put the sheet music for both F clef and G clef. If any of C clef musician wants a copy for their use, contact me.

Chiisana Machi no Shijou Nite - Binchou-tan

With influence of latin, Iwasaki Taku made a cheerful sound for Binchou-tan series. I don't think I really need to say a lot. The music is just perfect. It is not too easy, yet not too hard. I think the intermediate players will get fun with this theme.

Carefully craft the accidentals signs: naturals, sharps, and flats. Because these are the heart of the composition. Pianist will not face so much difficulty. Violinist/string player, should pay attention on accidental (well, you guys know why ehehehehe..).

Accompaniment, if there is any friend can do, would have fun with the quick changing of chords. If guitar work as rhythms, should know how to make Rumba style. Even better if bassist is there, too. These combo will rock your performance.

Oh, what a disaster! :D

Uh, yes.. I admit my accuracy to work on this request is only about 80%. The singer(s) are sometimes singing off tones,.. so I hardly 'secured' to the right notes. So mostly what I do here is doing my own interpretation and just go on with what I think.

Scarry... oh, yes...

What makes this song kills me is also because of its fast tempo. At first, I tried to work with the original tempo but then I gave up. I used my music editor and force the song quite slow. Well... apparently, it wasn't slow enough.. and in the end, I use my music player where it could rate the tempo 6-8 times slower.

And you wonder where the scary part was..? I am going to tell.. you... PLEASE DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE ALONE:

it is so scary to hear people laugh in slow motion... REALLY! *serious face* Whenever I was on the part where the casts were laughing on that song, I've got goosebumps. Now I am thinking to cut that part for my phone ringtone.. :D would be fun to scare other people :D

So, this is actually easy songs. By instant you can already master the mainframe of the song. Probably will have a little difficulty on speaking Japanese quickly but practice make perfect, right? :) So, beginner singer(s) are encourage to try this piece.

Band/group band may enjoy the fast pop-song, and main lead guitarist will enjoy the solo interlude part.

Nothing is really hard from the chords.

Kaereru Basho - Hidari-me Tantei EYE (J-drama)

The last Hidari-me Tantei EYE request. WHOA!!

From 3 request scores, Kaereru Basho had the worst impact to me hehehehe.. I mean, the score is so beautiful, so clear, simple.. it has mixed emotion between sad, sweet, and hope. If I make a farewell party, and there will be like a video clip of photos, definitely I will take this one. (uh, yes... I love to make people cry hahahahah)

Anyway, Kaereru Basho in my own translation means A Place to Return or A Home to Return.

Sheet music and some music theory, for you... (tutorial time!)

I purposely treat this score differently. There are reasons. One, because I give more focus on how the score is divided. If you ever study music, then you will understand that each part is divided into 'parts'.. and each sentence is divided into "question sentence" and "answer sentence" (this might not a correct term, as I only read it on Indonesian music book theory for university student and translate here literary). A part is usually marked with "A", "B", just like what I usually do on my sheet musics. All that alphabets, I took it in box. So if an part A is divided into smaller component: question and answer sentences, I usually put it into Aa, and Ab.

In many case both classic and modern music, there is time that a repeat of a "part" does not taken the whole sentences (question and answer), but only start from answer sentence. In Kaereru Basho, part C is repeated later, but only the "answer sentence" or I call it as Cb.

So, how do you distinguish a question and answer sentence? One sign that you can use is that most of question sentences are ended with "hanging" notes or chords and need to be finished. The answer, in contrary, is answering or finishing the hanging notes/chords. Still confuse? Hm, this is the illustration:

if you see a lyric, look at the first 4 lines. The first line is question sentence, the second is answering, the third is question, and fourth is answering sentence. Get it now?

Now, the second reason why I treated this score differently is because this music is the best played as a group. Because only in that way, you can see how rich is the tune here. I purposely put guidance where the accompaniments are included. Because, for example, strings are taking role here, but most of time it is acting only as accompaniment; and only at part AA' it plays as major sound.

The third reason, by looking at second reason, I hope from now, you will treat your sheet music in this way. Write at each part what sounds did you hear. This is an ear training and I believe it will increase your ability to understand music better.

Anyway, this is the only sheet music that I give lots of help/signs for you, including expression signs. :)

Difficulty?

Hm,... not much. There are non-basic chords, but I give hints for you. Should there no more difficulty. Any level of players can try, even if you are a beginner. Study the sheet while hearing the music.

Notes for pianist, in this score, most parts, piano would play in sweet manner or soft. But there are places that I feel the pianist at the recording would give tensions like bar 24th and bar 44th - 45th .
