New Years Eve night in Orange County to welcome in 2009 will be unlike anything you have seen. Southern California is known for some extreme parties and some wild times but nothing tops New Years Eve night when the normal Orange County party animal morphs into a wild and slightly crazed werewolf of the night. A friend of mine recalls on her 2007 New Years Eve Night in Orange County.

We drove into Irvine from Placentia early in the day. We wanted to hit up Irvine Spectrum for some cute signature black party dresses for the house party we would head to later that night. We walked around into store after store until we both walked out with two of the hottest dresses we were sure anyone would see at the party. We headed over to Adrianne’s house in Irvine were we all were suppose to get ready and prep for the night. The three of us each slipped on our black dress, tossed back a few “practice shots” and blasted the music until our ride showed up and hour later. We got to the party around 9 and it was already a mess to find parking. We parked a block away and walked there (heels on high). It was a huge house much like Orange County is known for and didn’t disappoint upon entering the huge ball room that had a fully stocked bar a live DJ. My girls and I did our rounds to check out who might be our New Years Eve kiss and than headed to the bar. The bartender made us each a Long Island before we headed to the middle of the ballroom to dance. We went back to bar several more times before the 11:50 mark hit when everyone started to pour champagne into glasses and hand them out. We set our self right in the center of the room and waited as the minutes turned into hours. You could feel the anticipation from everyone in the room as the clock struck 11:59. For a whole minute that party feel silent as the DJ grabbed the mic and counted down the last seconds of 2006 with the crowd only joining in at the 10-9-8 my girls and I glanced around 5-4-3, held up our glasses as we toasted to the new year of 2007. After the count down I think the liquor began to get to people even more than before. I saw girls on tables; shirts off dancing like strippers. I saw guys getting closer to girls on the dance floor. The party raged on until about 3 when we decided to head back.

New Years Eve 2001
My name is MIke and I am the co-President of Mix Armada. Back in 2001 I attended Together as One, a house/trance/electronic music rave that featured some great talent including Paul van Dyk, Sasha, Richard Vission, etc. Back then I was a mere senior in High School but had an affinity for great electronic music including those sounds of Mr. Van Dyk. I attended the event, held every year at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, with a former girlfriend and some other friends. The event was ridiculous and the best was the midnight countdown with Paul van Dyk on the turntables. The place was rockin and the sounds were great especially for a young kid still in high school. The party raged all night and with the great sounds pumping through the system on that New Years Eve, no drugs or alcohol were needed to keep me going that night.

New Years Eve 2007
On the New Years Eve of 2007/2008, after adding a few years to my age, I promoted and DJed for the New Years Eve party held at Fury Rok & Roll Lounge in Newport Beach, Orange County, California. Although the place went out of business in 2008, nothing held it back from hosting a raging party on New Years Eve. Tickets sold out for this event early on as did the bottle service reservations. I remember back then flyering cars from Anaheim and Fullerton to Newport Beach and Huntington Beach. We would receive nasty calls from people about our flyers being on their cars after flyering certain apartment complexes in Orange County. But this massive marketing campaign built a buzz about the event and had people calling us until 10:00pm on New Years Eve trying to get some last minute tickets. We had to turn them down after selling out that night but for those who did get tickets and get in, the Mix Armada DJ's (Adjust and myself, Santino) rocked the crowd with house and hip hop beats. The midnight countdown and champagne toast capped a huge night for Mix Armada and for the rest of the crowd in attendance.

2008/2009
This year Mix Armada again will be hosting a raging New Years Eve celebration, the best in Orange County, as we join forces with some of the best promoters in Orange County to bring you the New Sutra. Sutra has been completely remodeled for this event as it features a new house room in a space that formerly was an empty office in the building next door. Also, there will be a special tented off courtyard where people can lounge and mingle. Flight Lounge Fridays - Huntington Beach, Orange County

On November 28th Mix Armada hosted a hair show with Christopher & Co.’s top stylists Natalie Smyth & Beverly Moody who parterned with Desirae Johnson, a make up artist, and together they turned out over 20 models who rocked our runway. They had do’s and classic styles not to mention fresh up to date looks for both men and women. Flight’s crowd that night was pumped from the show and kept that energy up until last call. When Mix Armada hosts a party at Flight, or any venue for that matter, we always try to go the extra mile to make it not only a night of dancing, drinking and socializing but a night of entertainment as well. Mix Armada is kicking it up a notch this coming Friday night. We have traded our hot and sexy models for a performer who is sure to please a crowd. Dj Adjust of Mix Armada opened the evening with his blend of hits. Then the hair show began with about 22 models strutting their new hair styles onto the Flight stage. The crowd enjoyed the showcase and lined up to take pictures with the models.

DJ Ever then jumped on the table as the VIP sections and the rest of the dance floor rocked out to his hits. The whole club was packed and only showed how great the new Fridays, presented by Mix Armada, have grown into one of the hottest spots in all of Orange County. Wrap up of the Free Party Bus from Orange County to Mai Tai Bar in Long Beach

Mix Armada hosted another great event last Sunday, November 8th, 2008. The Mix Armada Family and all of our loyal party goers waited patiently outside the Friday’s Restaurant just across from the Block of Orange. We all boarded the bus and it wasn’t long before the drink tickets were exchanged for mass amounts of P.I.N.K Vodka with just dashes of Red Bull. The bus was full and lively as Lil Wayne blasted and a buzzed crowd started to mouth the lyrics. We got to our destination quicker than we all had anticipated and gulped down the last of our drinks. We had arrived at the Mai Tai Bar in Long Beach.

The bar is an upscale lounge with a Hawaiian feel about it. The huge patio is great to sip drinks on and has a view of the whole Rainbow Harbor. It was a little chilly that night but you would never know it even out on the patio because of the large heaters all over. It was happy hour when we got there and we all spread ourselves out through the venue taking over the bar. Some of the Mix Armada Family sipped on patron on ice while others chose a less direct route with Icy Mai Tais. The Mai Tai Bar has great “dive-bar” prices too! DJ Adjust spun some great mixes and got the crowd to move away from the bar, just a little, and dance.

Before we knew it the bus was back and it was time to head back to the Block of Orange. The bus full again pulled away from the venue but that didn’t mean the drinks were stopping. More P.I.N.K Vodka was pulled out and poured in to our glowing pink cups. We drank until we arrived back In Orange to part ways.

Mix Armada struck again creating a fun and memorable night for everyone.

Orange County and Hollywood Night Club Scene For Those With Underage Friends

The Orange County club scene for those under 21 can be rather non-existent. Hearing about Fullerton bar scene and the new Anaheim Garden Walk clubs spring up has caused the need for those of us with friends under 21 to travel to find a good night out. I remember last January my underage girlfriend from Germany had come for a visit and wanted to see the scene out here. We took her to DV8 which is known as Level 3 for those of you 21+. We waited in line over an hour paid our 20 bucks and walked in. We danced for what felt like hours to hip hop beats. We noticed our friend, whom we shall leave nameless, getting drinks from an older guy. She was pretty intoxicated by the time she found our way back to us. She claimed all she wanted to do was dance her whole life when my friend suggested that she go try out the empty poles located on the main stage. Her liquid courage must have been pumping strong because my usually timid friend marched her way up the stairs passed both guys and girls and proceeded to give the most provocative fully clothed pole dance I’ve ever seen. My German friend and I watched as this girl turned all eyes from the Power 106 DJ to her. Not even the go-go dancers had gotten so many stares! She danced for two songs before she realized she had caught the whole clubs attention. She got a seemly embarrassed look on her face and started to walk off the stage and back down the stairs when the whole club cheered for her. She came back to us horrified. We left the club not long after that and headed to my friends place back in Tustin. Our nameless friend had passed out on the way home and we of course uploaded all the pictures from that night on Facebook and Myspace. Her pole dancing day view at Dv8 had turned into a website buzz all before she woke up the next morning with a huge headache!

Kaskade at the Vanguard in Hollywood, November 8th 2008

After hearing for years how great Kaskade was live I had to see it myself in person. On November 8th, 2008, I went with my sister, brother and his girlfriend to see Kaskade live at the Vanguard in Hollywood. Thanks to a connection, DJ Chris Paul, aka my brother-in-law, we were able to get on Macafrica's VIP list. Luckily we were there by 10:30 and, notwithstanding the Prop 8 protestors lining Silverlake and Hollywood Blvd, we had no problem getting in on Macafrica's list. After gaining VIP access to the Vanguard we came in to find DJ Journey on the turntables inside the lounge. We then made our way in to the main room at the club which featured two opening DJs opening for the infamous Kaskade. These DJs were great and definitely got the party started but they were merely placeholders that night as the crowd waited in anticipation for Kaskade hitting the turntables. When he first got on stage and the crowd saw him a roar greeted his arrival. Then when he finally graced the turntables the nightclub of over 2,000 filled to capacity erupted. Promoting his recent release, strobelight seduction, Kaskade definitely put on a show that night. His music took the crowd on a ride with such hits as "Angel on my shoulder" and "Move for Me" rocking the club.

I would definitely recommend checking out Kaskade when he is in town. Last year he went on a "Jet-Set" Marathon for New Years which featured him DJing in three cities in one night including San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. As of the day of this posting his myspace calendar was open for New Years but be on the lookout for him as he takes the worldwide tour to celebrate the release, and success, of his latest album. A little on Donald Glaude:
Ranked 68 on DJMag.com’s Top 100 DJs List in 2005, Donald skyrocketed to 48 this year and his genius keeps on growing…
Before Donald few DJs had attempted to spin house records. Donald’s fine ear helped him give birth to a new style. After mastering his craft, Donald began DJing in various clubs around Tacoma and Seattle. During that time he made several important connections which would launch his music to the forefront of what was quickly becoming one of the largest underground movements since New Wave in the late-70s. Perhaps the greatest connection Donald made was with another aspiring DJ and friend, DJ Dan.

Together Donald & DJ Dan sparked the rave scene in Seattle and developed large followings. Knowing that Donald possessed an energy and ability to work the crowd that was unparalleled to anyone else on the circuit, Dan convinced San Francisco’s legendary Funky Tekno Tribe to bring down his good friend Donald to play at one of their parties. Donald’s talents quickly made him a permanent fixture on F.T.T.’s roster.

Some DJs seek commercial acceptance. Donald, on the other hand, has always preferred an emotional connection with his audience. What a wonderful Weekend!! It all started with over 1000 people at Heat Ultra Lounge for Fusion Friday! If you guys missed it S.K.A.M. Artist and Power 106 Heavyweight DJ Eric D Lux murdered the Turntables. What a crazy night of over a thousand of OC's most beautiful people. Bottle and tables were all sold out both in the main room and in the side lounge!

Saturday Night the Mix Armada crew along with some of our closest friends took a slight roadtrip to Carson California for the Yearly Oktoberfest in Alpine Village. What a drunken beer fest with awesome memories on forgettable memories.

Fridays @ Heat well just keep getting hotter and hotter every week. Capacity event every Friday. Last week Kings Only gave some awesome tees which got the crowd pumped. With DJ Adjust on the turntables you never know whats going to happen. He defenitely brought his A-game last week.

This Friday we are flying in one of the most sought after DJ's in the club scene right now. You can hear every afternoon on Power106 mixing and being the jockey. He flys up to Tao in Vegas as their resident every Saturday.

Coming from humble beginnings, both began their love of music at a very young age. Influenced by older cousins and friends, each was already fully engulfed in the DJ community by their early teens. Saving up any money they could, each managed to buy records, mixers, turntables, needles, and everything else needed to start their journey. Teaching themselves by watching and listening each picked up the art very quickly.

By high school, each was fully entwined in the party scene, mixing at local house parties and clubs. One common booking at a local club led to the chance meeting of the two. Realizing each had the same ambition, drive, and hustle they instantly clicked and became partners. The two immediately got to work in the studio, dropping mix tape after mix tape and party break after party break, while continuing to DJ at all the hottest clubs in Los Angeles.

In March 2001, Syphe got hired on the Power 106 street team as did D-Lux exactly a year later in 2002. While working on the street team, they continued to stay on the mix tape and party break grind. Their infamous ÒBuko Breaks Vol 1-3Ó got major play all over the country. Creating such a stir on the underground scene, in July of 2004, the two were asked to do a mix tape hosted by none other than Pamela Anderson. The mix tape gained major recognition, being talked about on major outlets such as XXL Magazine, the National Enquirer, and MTV. Soon after, Power 106 heavyweights DJ E-Man and Mr. Choc began to take notice and asked the duo to be special guest DJs on the weekend jump-off mix. Being that this was their life-long dream, the duo immediately rose to the occasion.

After 3 months of doing weekend jump-off mixes, the two were asked to start mixing live on-air, making them official Power 106 mixers. Overwhelmed with joy and excitement they jumped at the opportunity to mix live on the radio, most times coming straight from the clubs at 3, 4, or 5 am in the morning. After mixing on air for just over a month the two were asked to submit a jock air-check by the APD at the time Damien Young. Not ever wanting to be radio personalities, the two at first had no yearning to do so. But after much thought and a good ÒchatÓ with their long time friends and mentors DJ Vice and DJ Echo, they decided to do as requested. They turned in the air-check, the Power 106 bosses loved it, and the rest is history!

You can now hear the dynamic duo on the Saturday Night Street Party weekly (Saturdays 7pm-12am), and daily (Monday-Friday 3pm- 7pm). You can also hear them mixing live on the ÒCali Caliente Power Mix WeekendsÓ as well as throughout the week on the ÒNew @ Two Mix.Ó Along with radio, they are still running the underground scene djing at clubs all over the country and of course continuing to drop the mix tapes. With their down-to-earth, straight from the streets mentalities, Big Syphe and Eric D-Lux are as real as it gets and put in their own words ÒTooommmaaaaa!!!Ó

What makes a Club, Bar, or Lounge Experience Great

This is the second part of a multi-part series on what makes a club, bar, or lounge experience great...

The last part of this series talked about bottle service, getting on the guest list (guestlist), and the music. This section will focus on travel arrangements to and from the night club:

Travel:
In Orange County, like any other county, there is a plethora of travel arrangements you can make for your travel to and from the night club. I've seen everything from a London double decker bus to a $1 million car (the Bugatti). Although at most upscale lounges, bars, or clubs you'll find anything from a Mercedes C 300 to a Honda Accord. Making the best travel arrangements can really raise the bar on the type of experience you'll have. There are the standards: the Lincoln Towncar limo, the Hummer limo, and a normal taxi cab. For the cheapest, you'll most likely be looking at the taxi cab. However, if you and a group of friends, who also have a little cash to spend, want to do it right, your best bet is a large limo such as a Navigator or Hummer limo. They fit about 30 strong and can pack all the booze you need on the ride to the club, bar or lounge and all the seating for passing out on the ride home. For about $50-$60 a person, you can enjoy a night without anyone worrying about being the sober driver and a limo full of booze, as the $50-$60 person estimate can cover both the limo cost and some additional liquor. Not only does it give you and your closest group of friends a convenient and classy way to travel to the club, it also encourages sober driving (Please, No DUI's) and provides you with the perfect pre-party on the way to the night club, bar, or lounge. Most times, club promoters encourage such travel and will get everyone in free that's in the limo. The thinking of the promoter is that if these people have enough to pay for a nice limo ride, they'll be spending nicely at the bar as well (i.e., bottle service).

The only precautions to take are those that come with the drinking and not from the actual limo. Many times people can't handle the pre partying in the limo and a full night of clubbing so be prepared for a few too many drunk people. Just have those buckets handy for the ride home because it can become a real bumpy ride if the room is spinning.

Overall this mode of transportation fits best if you and your group are looking for a great night out on the town without the hassles of carpooling, sober drivers, etc. Finding the best limo company can be troublesome as we here at Mix Armada have found people using companies that have provided less than good quality service (including used glasses and broken items prior to being picked up). However, most limo companies do their best to provide clean and safe transportation to the venues.

Don't forget, if you're too drunk and aren't in such a limo, please take a cab/taxi. Mix Armada strongly promotes sober drivers and the use of taxis or cabs if someone has had too much to drink.
