There, I have fixed the meme the left has run with for the last four years. Whenever Sarah Palin says anything newsworthy out come the leftist gang of snide commentators, and one of their favorite remarks is to damn John McCain with faint praise.

This usually runs along the lines of "McCain is a patriot, sure, but I will never forgive him for placing that dingbat a heartbeat away from the presidency."

Not that anyone cares whether the commentator forgives McCain of course, and of course that preamble is just a set-up to then go on to attack Palin, whilst at the same time seeming generous-which fools nobody.

That Palin was a highly competent governor, took on the entrenched corrupt elements, kept McCain's faltering campaign above Obama's in the polls and, according to CNN's exit polling had a positive effect on voters choice in 2008 is ignored of course.

What is also ignored-totally is a genuine case of an incompetent and reprehensible person being chosen by the Democrats in 2004. If Kerry had won, the truly faulty John Edwards would have been a heartbeat away from the presidency-and in that office the pressures and dangers could cause anything to happen.

To have such a morally flawed person chosen as a potential president escapes the leftist commentators, who prefer to ignore it, or if they do say anything, it is along the lines of "well all politicians do it, not just the Dem's." They then proceed to attack Palin, who, compared to Edwards, is a saint. And, as to which was more qualified to have been vice-president, Palin is to Edwards as Washington is Jimmy Carter.

In the meantime the left continues on with their childish Palin bashing, using McCain as their foil whilst Edwards continues on with the reported womanizing

I am watching before my very eyes a battle being fought surrounding a 16 year old girl, Madeleine McAulay.

As you are reading this, you may be thinking I am talking about the struggle between the progressive ‘trolls’ as they are commonly being called, and the innocence of a young girl boldy proclaiming her voice, standing up for Godly principles. Or, if you are of a different political persuasion, I might be describing the battle between decency and common sense and the bigotry of a naïve, ignorant girl who does not understand the hate she is spewing.

But I am not describing either battle, I am describing a battle in the girl herself, and I see it unfolding here, live, on Twitter. The buzz built around this girl as she was featured on a local Fox news station after her bold youtube video where she proclaimed against the right of homosexuals to marry.

But more, she proclaimed herself to be a ‘Christian Conservative’, marked herself as being separate, distinct from the typical political operative, proclaiming her guiding light in Christ.

The buzz built.

The ‘trolls’ came out to silence this Christian voice. The very work of their assaults served to lift this girl up further, not tear her down, not silence her.

I came upon this buzz by accident. I discovered a college-age girl on Twitter who had just recently had an article accepted by our local newspaper. I noticed she was a Sarah Palin supporter and thought she might like to get in contact with someone I knew who knew Madeleine.

I soon discovered the girl I was trying to connect was already a member of Team Sarah and already connected to Madeleine.

In this effort to connect, I stumbled upon something rarely seen up close, the stepping out for the first time on a world stage by a new voice, Madeleine McAuley. I saw her, through Twitter, preparing for that step, an appearance on Fox and Friends, a 3 minute spot. The mere fact that she was going to appear on Fox and Friends further amped up the progressive ‘trolls’.

The buzz built.

Then, the comment heard round the world- at least it might be for Madeleine, the comment that may have brought together the perfect narrative for a conservative movement desperate for martyrs, for courageous ‘victims’ to combat the parade of courageous ‘victims’ the progressives have to offer, the anti-Sandra Fluke, if you will.

Meeting Sarah Palin Against All Odds

I was sitting in the hotel lounge chatting with a fellow conservative, at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference; we were discussing the day’s events, and our shared love for Governor Sarah Palin, when suddenly a mob of people were gathering outside of the lounge, shouting and carrying on. I assumed it was a GOP Presidential Candidate, or some other “important” person, but when someone yelled out, “It’s Palin”, I immediately jumped out of my seat, and rushed over to see if it was true.

It was.

If you know me well, then you are aware that Sarah Palin is my inspiration for being involved in politics and you can probably imagine how excited I was to find out I was only a few feet away from her. But there was a slight problem- How the heck was I going to get close to her?

Security was everywhere and the mob had grown quite large, with people shouting and taking pictures. I had pretty much settled with the fact that I wasn’t going to get any closer, but suddenly I had an idea. I let my eyes search around the huge room, scanning to see if there was any way around all of the people. When it all seemed hopeless, I caught a glimpse of where the security in front of the Palin’s were going, and without any further thought, I made my way to them.

It turns out a few other people had come up with the same idea, but I was not going to let them get in my way. I pushed my way (politely of course) to the front of the line. The security, by this point, began to lock arms and create a human wall. Bristol and Willow Palin walked frantically by, while the security blocked. But as they left, I caught a glimpse of their mom, my inspiration, Sarah Palin.

I know it sounds very drama filled, and crazy, and believe me, it was!

As I stood directly in front of the security guards, Sarah began to get closer, and the crowd began to push. I quickly pulled out my phone and began to get a video. All I wanted was a smile, or maybe even a handshake, but as she got closer and closer I decided I wanted something more. I wanted a picture.

I wracked my brain trying to figure out a way to get her attention, and as she started to walk by I was determined to make it happen. I took a deep breath, hopefully to gain some courage, and then shouted, “I am 16! Can I please get a picture?” There was a slight pause that made me think it was hopeless, but suddenly Sarah whips her hair around, and with her unique Alaskan accent says, “Of Course!”

One of the security guards, obviously frustrated said, “Okay. Let her through.” The rest of the guards obliged, unhooked their arms, and one took my phone. Sarah wrapped her arm around my waist and we both smiled for the picture.

It only lasted a few seconds, but I swear those were the best few seconds of my life!

The picture may not be perfect; it’s blurry and in sepia (which I am still trying to figure out how that happened), but no matter what, it will be a picture I will cherish forever!

I guess it is only appropriate to end with what I have always said- Governor Sarah Palin is the one who inspired me to get involved, and Barack Obama is the reason I am involved.

I'm A Man (Hoochie Coochie Man) Diddley/Hendrix/Waters/Berry Who Is Best?

When I was about 14 my Uncle took me to the Apollo Theater in Harlem where they had an all night revue as I wanted to see Bo Diddley who was headlining. Innocent and different days! We got there at midnight and we were the only white people in the whole theater, but nobody noticed.

I can't remember who the other acts were except for, I believe, the mighty Ruth Brown but it didn't matter for when Bo came on (with his very bored looking drummer) he blew the place away. He was at the height of his huge vocal power and of course his guitar work was astonishing with its raw, hard driving rhythm and volume. This was before he became, sadly in my opinion, a bit,square guitar/Duchess gimmicky.

It has stayed with me as a wonderful memory the rest of my life both for the ethos of time and place,which will never be repeated, and for the fabulous performance. There is a clip of the 1958 original version of his "Mona" (on a 78rpm!) at the bottom of the page which conveys some idea of his power.

The recording of one of his signature songs "I'm A Man" gives some, only some, idea of his vocal power and early restrained guitar work, and the harmonica backing is superb. It is interesting to compare his version to other great artists. For me Muddy Waters version is outstanding down home and earthy and his voice is of course powerful but there is a "thickness" to his tone and a little to much of the 1940's Jazz shouter for my taste and the version is "clubby".

The Hendrix version is new to me and nothing special. The Chuck Berry version is, as with so much of his work, a delight and delivered with a wink rather than with the libidinousness which is usual encountered with this song. Actually Chuck can do no wrong, it is a great piece of performance art but the song should be, in my opinion, delivered in a more earthy manner.

But these are immortal artists singing an immortal song each in their own way and as far as which is best... to each his/her own but for me Bo is the man.

When John McCain introduced Sarah Palin at the Republican convention it was an exercise in contrasts. As the brusk stiff warrior, whose smiles seem to be as much grimaces of pain as expressions of joy (a persona born of old war wounds and a infamous temperament), was replaced on stage by a vibrant enthusiastic woman the difference was like going from dusk back to daytime. The electorate seem to have all the enthusiasm and energy of a funeral procession before she was chosen. As the left was going hog wild over their “historic candidate” the conservatives were looking for something to cheer about. In Sarah they found it.

Sarah Palin Gets A Standing Ovation Before She Even Speaks

She electrified the crowd that night and sent fear into the heart of the left. Vice presidential candidates were not suppose to carry the presidential candidate but this was obviously not an ordinary VP pick. As the elated crowds left the convention floor the media and the left wing political apparatus went into high gear with one thing in mind, destroy Sarah.

Throughout the summer huge crowds followed the messiah around and sang his hosannas. When McCain spoke people came but the crowds were dull and the energy low but not when Sarah showed up. Wherever she went the atmosphere came alive. Her crowds matched the messiahs in both numbers and enthusiasm. He was the aloof and untouchable media darling, she was a gun toting firebrand that knew what real work was. If Obama had a picture of someone in his head when he complained about the guns and God crowd it would of looked a lot like Sarah Palin.

Everywhere she went the crowds followed

The fact is before she entered the campaign McCain was an underdog of underdogs. Carrying an 800 pound gorilla called Bush on his back and facing a Democratic candidate with unparalleled enthusiasm from the party faithful the race seemed lost before it began. After Sarah joined the team his polls rose and even put him ahead. Never in the history of politics had a VP pick been such a game changer. Never in modern history had on candidates choice for VP been so reviled by the opposing party and the press alike.

A partial explanation of the mad dog response to Sarah Palin may be found in Obama’s total lack of qualifications. The fact that he was so under qualified and totally lacking in experience meant that his supporters had to keep the spotlight off of him. Add to that the enthusiasm for Sarah meant she was the main threat, not McCain. The natural strategy then was to make her the center of debate as a smoke screen to hide their candidate behind. The media would make sure that Obama’s lack of foreign policy experience was not the issue but Palin’s was. The Democrats and their Media cohorts would collaborate to make the race about the VP pick of the opposing party thus avoid the spotlight being shown on their candidates losing record and radical past. His gaffs would be hidden behind hers (whether real or hyped as such). They would concentrate nearly exclusively on her to protect him. This of course explains some of the media Palin bashing craze but not all.

Everywhere in the press she was decried as a nobody, a lightweight and dumb. That she didn’t have the resume to be president was the tagline they were selling. A woman that had risen from soccer mom, to mayor, to chairing the Alaska Oil and Conservation Commission to being the youngest and one of the most successful governors in Alaskan history was a lightweight and dumb? A person with a resume that made the Democratic presidential candidate look like a hayseed farmer in comparison wasn’t experienced enough? The fact was herresume was thick and her accomplishments were many. Her main sin it seemed was having charisma and a following that seemed to be on the precipice of toppling the Democratic messiah. If Sarah had one weakness it was the fact she had no experience with the snake pit that was national politics, something she would soon find rectified.

Quickly she was the victim of unprecedented, vile and sick personal attacks. It was suggested her son Trig should of been aborted, commentators and a late night host suggested her daughter’s were sluts and on CNN it was even suggested Sarah herself should be gang raped by a group of black guys. She was viciously attacked and her children were put to open ridicule. Her every little misstep was amplified and blown up as emblematic of her intelligence while her opponents gaffes, much greater in number, were ignored.

Where was the simple lines of decency the press was normally not inclined to cross? What about the unwritten rule that candidate’s children were off limits? It seemed that Sarah Palin was an unprecedented candidate and to the media that meant she deserved unprecedented treatment.

In fact even when she triumphed like in her debates with Biden the press made it look like Biden was brilliant. Time after time her points were on target, her interpretation of the constitution correct and time after time Biden blew it but the mainstream media acted as if she was the one failing. When the Democratic Juggernaut that was the Obama candidacy began to dominate the polls the press blamed Sarah for dragging McCain down. There seems an unwritten directive had come down that no chance to blame and humiliate Sarah Palin was to be passed on.

The fact is the only reason the 2008 campaign was even a race at all is because Palin was on the ticket. McCain steadfastly refused to engage Obama’s drug infused, radical past and his total lack of experience. As the financial crisis loomed he passed on hanging the subprime mess on the necks of the Democrats (which, since they originated with Fanny and Freddie, was something they richly deserved). In one debate he seemed to almost concede the election when he chided has followers not to fear Obama. Unwilling to fight with all the weapons he had at his disposal, all the while carrying the Bush legacy on his back, the campaign became a train wreck. It seemed as though he did not really want to win. As it turned out it was to be one of the worst run campaigns in modern history. A campaign trying to fight hope and change by making its presidential candidate appear tired and weary. If McCain ever had a chance against the Democratic juggernaut it was because of Sarah, not in spite of her. When the election results were in there were no surprises.

Most vice presidential nominees fade away after the election is lost. Who remembers the running mates of a Goldwater, Mondale or Dole? Usually the losing VP pick fades back into the woodwork unless they regain notoriety on their own. Of course Sarah Palin was not your normal vice presidential candidate and the press was about to let Sarah go back to national obscurity. Apparently they wanted to make sure she would never threaten them again.

When Sarah Palin went back to being Governor of Alaska the left wing media followed. The constant harassment she and her family experienced during the campaign continued unabated. Reporters camped out at her doorstep, a journalist bought the house next door just to be able to dig up dirt and a never ending list of frivolous lawsuits where filed against her as Governor. It seemed that the Democrats and their main stream media allies recognized that Sarah Palin would become their worst nightmare if they did not totally destroy her first. Unfortunately for them they had underestimated the lady from Wasilla.

Unconventional and unpredictable, Palin decided it was time to fight back. If they would not leave her family and her state alone than she would throw down the gloves and take the fight to them. She resigned as Governor to be able to go to war full time. At the end of the day the voters have shown that in the long run the media's doleful influence is negligible. After a long and hard battle by Palin (and her supporters) to get the truth about her out from under the media smokescreen has finally reached the public her truth and her common-sense conservatism message is not only resonating but changing the political scene.

Palin was right, once again, when she said she didn't need a title to make a difference. The media and their Dem allies thought that by bringing her down they won but that was a short term pyrrhic victory as will be seen in the years ahead.

2. Pick up the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom.

What is the most hilarious thing about the Kos article is the call for a"reach across the aisle" sort of candidate i.e. Kerrey, to be the ideal. This from the most partisan rabidly leftist foaming at the mouth liberal site which actually pushed the idea that Bush and Cheney were going to create Marshall Law rather than give up office to Obama. When it suits them they apparently see the lion reposing with the lamb as the way to go.

Kudos to Laura Goldman a self professed liberal writing a honest, from the heart, and unbiased article "Sarah Palin, This Liberal's New BFF" in a journal that has been notable for its vociferous attacks on Sarah Palin.

Goldman met Palin, who she describes as her new BFF, at the recent SALT conference where Palin was a keynote speaker. As has been the case in every instance I have seen where people, from left and right, who have met Palin she, Goodman, uses most of the terms that such encounters engender.

Goldman; "I was surprised to find her intelligent, nice, knows the names of newspapers that she reads" and
"she was not a primadonna in any way, had no problem having her photograph taken with me (twice) and is even more beautiful in person".

The most telling part of the article is Goldman saying "Whilst I do not agree with her positions it is pretty clear that she has been unfairly maligned by the press"

That is an honest statement in every respect and it shows that liberals need not be cast in one basket as unreasonable. it is just sad that it has to take a chance encounter with the real Palin not dispel the terrible malignity that the leftist media has partaken in in their disgusting caricaturization of this woman.
