Nikki & Brian | Married! | Winona, MN Wedding & Portrait Photographer

happy almost Christmas :)

I seriously cannot believe that it is december 22nd!

maybe it is because it has been 40* lately and there is no snow.

although, I can safely say that I am UBER excited that the days will now be getting longer.

getting dark at 5pm makes me not a happy camper.

anyway, today I have Nikki & Brian on the blog!

these two were married on a lovely October afternoon in Winona, MN.

I was super excited when Nikki emailed me asking if I would photograph her wedding...

for a few reasons....

one, I would get to visit my little sister

two, I would get to see Nikki & catch up on life

and three, the Winona bluffs in fall = <3

ohhhemmmmgeeee. the fall colors were just starting to peak out.

ahhh...heaven. loved it.

Nikki & Brian had a small bridal party, ceremony and reception.

I have to say that I totally loved it!

don't get me wrong, lots of people are fun too..but there is just something so wonderful about only a handful of people witnessing the first moments of a newlywed's first day as husband and wife.

THEN...oh man...THEN...the reception was at the Winona Historical Center.

umm...old brick building CHUCK FULL of old vintage things. ohhh it was probably my favorite venue. :) just sayin'

the brick of outside gave us the perfect backdrop for some photos as the sun was setting

Nikki made all of her table decorations and even had coffee cups for everyone to take home. it was such a cute touch! i love it when brides get all artsy-craftsy!

I always wondered what it would feel like.

I always wondered when it would happen.

and when it happened, what would that do to me...

would I be different?

would I change?

would it be the right thing at the right time?

the right place?

that minute when I realized that, wow, this is my life…

I am a grown up.

or, as grown up as I have to be, anyway ;)

the other day, sitting at work it happened.

I realized it.

I grew up.
I am grown up.

somewhere in that in-between.

I. am. a. grown. up.
that moment when you realize that this, this is your life.

and the decisions that have to be made are more than just what you are eating for lunch that day.

the decisions that can change every aspect of your life.

change your life in the matter of a few words or seconds of decisions and actions.

then, make your life a whirlwind of crazy.

and all of a sudden that whirl wind takes over your life, and somewhere in that in-between there is a light at the end of the tunnel. a light that leads to this whole new world of options.
almost like walking outside after the rain finishes.

you know, that calm after the storm.

when I was younger in school I always wondered what it would be like to be a grown up.

to have to get up every morning.

get dressed.

eat breakfast.

(because, it really is the most important meal of the day)

go to work.

have responsibilities.

deal with people.

whether they are nice or not. and whether or not you are in a good, bad, or ugly mood.

have a social life (or try to anyway).

have to pay the bills.

get enough sleep.

eat the right things (pizza and beer is healthy…right?! ;) )

all those things that grown ups do.

it happened the other day.

it actually happened.

and I sat in disbelief for a few mintues.

let that realization sink in.

that moment I realized that somewhere in-between not-all-that-long-ago and 26 and a half…
I grew up.

maybe it is because of all the decisions that the past few months have presented me with.

or maybe because I get my hair cut regularly.

and paint my nails, wear makeup, and dress up like a girl sometimes…

all out...with heels and everything!

or maybe its because I have been forced to realized what I really want in life.

in MY life.

and I am the one who has to call the shots.

I never imagined I would be making some of the decisions that I have had to make lately.

the last few months have been the hardest of my entire life.

and have faced me with some of the toughest decisions to make.

decisions that have ultimately made me a much stronger person.

I know I can go on and live without certain things.

things that I never imagined having to live without.

but yet, at the very same time, the past few months have been some of the best of my entire life.

funny how life works.

all of this life-in-between has also shown me how thankful I am for the people that are in my life right now.

people that have seen me at my lowest and highest moments.

helped me through some of the hardest decisions a person can make.

kept my spirits up.

shown me that the sun does come out tomorrow.

and proved that even in the hardest of times, there is good in everything.

to the people that have stood next to me,

thank you.

thank you for everything.
and those two little words don't seem like nearly enough.

the phone calls.

the texts.

words of encouragement and wisdom.

and simply just being there.
it means the world to me.

and to the ones that didn't stand next to me,

well, thank you as well.

for opening my eyes to the world around me.

for making me a stronger person.

and for helping me to believe in myself.

and because a blog post shouldn't be without a photo
the one that I owe the most to...

well, howdy!

I know, things have been pretty quiet on the blog lately.

life has been pretty crazy lately.

and honestly...I can't believe...IT'S NOVEMBER.

seriously...where did the year go?

I feel like I say that every year.

but every year I feel like time gets a little bit faster :(

sometimes I want to just freeze time for a hot minute and never have to move forward

the best part is that lately its been like 60* outside.

amazing.

having these temps this time of year...makes me really not want the winter to come.

I like mid-50's & 60's :)

so, in reality this post is really just me checking in...

to let y'all know that I have some awesome posts coming up

because I have had some of the most amazing couples & families to take photos of over the past few months :D

happy Saturday!

today I am off to Kimberly, WI to photograph Abby & Andy's wedding

I am hoping the gale-force winds that have blown in over the past few days decides to hold off while we are outside taking photos :)

I am also hoping for the weather to be a little bit warmer than 58...paaaa-llleeeaaassseee!

I am SO not ready to let go of summer.

or fall.

anyway, today I have Beth & Michael on the blog

I met up with these two on a gorgeous mid-September day to take their photos

they were so much fun to hang out with!

we started out at Michael's parent's house

with some vintage cars

...yes...let me repeat that...

vintage cars.

ohhhh yes.

Beth told me that there would be vintage, and cars, and old-ness, and some rusty stuff.

heaven.

for real.

I probably looked like a kid in a candy store.

it was so much fun incorporating all that stuff into the photos.

after all that fun we headed down to the lake.

which was also gorgeous that day.

I've said it once, and I will say it again...I do love living so close to Lake Michigan.

sometimes it can be kinda ugly...but lately it has been such a pretty blue.

these two LOVE football.

seriously...they planned their wedding around football season ;)

now THAT is dedication :)

they also love to laugh.

which is fabulous because there is never a dull moment!

well, it has been a hot minute since I blogged last!

my life has been super crazy & busy these past few weeks.

good, bad and ugly all rolled into one.

that's not why I'm blogging today tho, some day, maybe, I'll share :)

so in all of this busy-ness over the past several weeks I have:

shot 6 weddings

had a bunch of engagement sessions

done a few portrait in the park sessions

AND worked my other job.

along with a bunch of other junk.

to say the past month and a half has flown past me is an understatement.

but, the best part is I get to spend time with some amazing people.

and take amazing photos of those people.

today, Amanda & AJ are on the blog!

these two were one of the first couples to book with me.

so, they truly hold a special place in my heart.

they were willing to take a chance and book with me when I hadn't shot very many weddings.

so, thank you seems to be an understatement on my part!

these two were great to work with!

Kim was with me second shooting, and we were able to take some fantastic images!

their wedding was on 9-10-11.

in Amanda's parent's backyard.

on one of the nicest days in September.

just as the trees were starting to turn colors.

we have truly been lucky this fall...gorgeous weather (70's!!!!) & beautiful colors.

heaven.

now...onto the photos!!

lots of laughs & tears, it was a very touching ceremony

we stopped at riverview middle school in plymouth for some photos...I had never been there before...it was great!

Carlie & Rory | MARRIED! | Sheboygan, Wisconsin Wedding & Portrait Photographer

a couple days ago I posted a sneak peak of Carlie & Rory's wedding.

this wedding was so much fun.

Kim came along as my second shooter and was able to spend a good part of the morning with the boys as they got ready, as I hung out with the girls.

these two [and their bridal party & friends] were so much fun!

the day started out with the girls getting ready at the salon and the boys getting ready at Blue Harbor.

then it was time to go to the church and get married!

after the getting married we stopped out at North Point Park.

I really love being so close to Lake Michigan.

unfortunately there were some menacing rain clouds that decided to make its way over our heads.

but the clouds did make for some neat pictures :)

after portraits, we headed to the reception to party the night away!

Carlie & Rory really love to laugh, go on adventures and just be together.

you can totally tell in all of their photos how happy they are together.

which...makes my job SOOOO much easier.

I absolutely LOVE the way they look at eachother.

I got a new hanger :D yessssss I <3 it...it really spruces up the photo ;) so now...I can bring it to all of my weddings!

I really loved Carlie's dress. it was so elegant

Labor day weekend was a crazy busy weekend!

I took some photos for the 4-H Horse and Pony project at the Fair,

Carlie & Rory got married,

and we spent time with family.

talk about cramming things in!

it was a good weekend though.

certainly nice to have 3 days off from my day job :D

today I have a sneak peak from Carlie & Rory's big day

it was a little chilly and rain was threatening us all afternoon....

that is ok...because the clouds brought on a whole new level of awesome to the photos :D

Alexa & Jeff | MARRIED!! | Madison Wedding & Portrait Photographer

I have been so excited to be able to blog about this wedding!

these two were soooo much fun to work with!

it was so much fun to spend the day surrounded by their friends and family as they got married.

these two are cute, fun, and love to laugh!

it was so easy to take a TON of photos

and...not gonna lie...it was HARD to pick out favorites to blog about!

the best part about these two is that they are high school sweethearts :)

Kim & I started out by meeting the girls at the church so that they could get ready.

the boys came shortly after that.

so it was fun to flip-flop back and forth between the guys and girls

before the girls slipped into their dresses we took some photos of the guys.

and, if you remember from their engagement session, Jeff is a marine

and one of his groomsmen is a marine as well!

I just love this added element in weddings

I feel like it makes the groom pop just as much as the bride :)

after portraits with the guys, it was time to get the girls ready.

and let me tell you...Alexa's dress was GORGEOUS!

then it was time for a few quick shots and then ceremony time!

after the ceremony we headed over to the captiol.

and yes, this was my FIRST TIME EVER...driving to the capitol.

and my second time AT the capitol.

I know, I know....I need to get out more ;)

anyway, taking photos at the capitol was awesome.

but SUUUPPPPERRRR busy.

there were at least 3 other wedding parties there while we were there!

then it was back to Columbus to party the night away!

10 years. | Personal | Sheboygan Wedding & Portrait Photographer

10 years ago today....at almost this exact time

I was just starting my junior year of high school

sitting in chemistry class

listening to the boys that I sat by crack rude jokes...

when an announcement was made

'the twin towers have been flown into by 2 planes.'

the buildings had either just fallen or were falling.

i'm not sure...because all I remember was being chilled to the bones.

I remember the silence that followed that announcement.

suddenly it wasn't important who got to their lockers first.

or who sat down in class last.

the school was silent.

after a while there was crying.

and whispers.

'what's going to happen?'

'why did this happen?'

'who would want to do this?'

were among the few that I recall.

I had to work that afternoon...and I remember sweeping the dining room floor

(I worked in the kitchen at an old folks' home)

and just staring at the tv.

watching the bone-chilling-sight of the towers falling...

over

and over

and over again.

that was all that was on the news.

or really on any tv station for that matter.

there were so many unknowns.

in the days that followed there was silence.

one of those weird silences...that normally only happen in the movies.

like everyone, humans and animals alike, were mourning and trying to answer the unknowns.

it wasn't until a few years later that I was sitting in a college lecture, listening to one of the firemen that was trapped in one of the towers did it really hit me what happened...not many of my teachers in high school talked about this day. I only remember watching the tv in one classroom.

I obviously knew it was a tragedy and that we, as a nation, were never going to be the same.

today, stop to remember what happened.

say a prayer.

a poem.

a memory.

anything to remember.

say thanks to those that have served and are serving our country.

what a fantastic weekend

I hope everyone had as good of weekend as I did!

this weekend was actually really relaxing

I got to spend time with Mike & take photos of some of the most adorable kids!

it was also nice to have a weekend to gear up for the craziness that is about to happen over the next 3 months…

10 weddings (2 that we are guests at and 8 that I am photographing!!)

2 road trips…one to visit Kelly & shoot a wedding (MINNESOTA…get ready!!) and the other to attend a wedding (OHIO here we come!!!)

a few engagement sessions

a few more family sessions

and rolling out my new senior rep program!

ANNNDDDDD going on our honeymoon!!!

…ps…those of you in Punta Cana need a photog?!

I’d love to book a session or two while we are down there ;)

yea, yea I know…a honeymoon is for relaxing :D

what if photography is relaxing!? Hehe

anyway…now, onto the cute-ness

saturday evening I spent a couple hours with my friend Sara’s kids

side note…I am not kidding when I say my friend’s have the most photogenic kids...EVER.

I love it :D

these 3 girls were ECSTATIC about getting their photos taken

(so ecstatic that rumor has it, they keep asking when I will be back ;) )

there is nothing in the world that makes my job easier than when people are excited about getting photos taken

they had 2 different coordinating outfits and were full of dance moves, silly faces, and laughter.

so we played in their backyard and in a couple of the fields by their house.

it was great!

but...its just not "time" for it yet.

today I have little "L" on the blog!

I met up with L and her mom Jackie a couple weeks ago for a portraits in the park session!

these sessions are SO much fun for me!

L's mom and I went to high school together, so it was great to meet up with her and catch up on the past 8 years!

L has tons of energy and was super excited to get her photos taken.

and she was dressed super cute...this girl has style for being 3

sandals, skinny jeans, black shirt, and a cute hair bow

she is so cute :)

The "H" Family | Portraits in the Park | Sheboygan Family & Portrait Photographer

today I have the "H" family on the blog

I apparently have a lot of friends with "H" last names...weird.

anyway, last weekend I met up with Mary, Mark and their twin boys!

it was so much fun!

I graduated high school with Mary...and probably haven't seen her since then!

so it was great to reconnect with her, meet her hubby and her boys!

these two boys are SOOOOO full of energy.

it was great!

at first they weren't so sure about getting their pictures taken...but it didn't take long for them to warm up to the camera

making sure the family is clean is a big job. so is telling stories :)

Suzanne & Steve | MARRIED! | Lake Geneva Wedding & Portrait Photographer

happy weekend!

today I have the full post for Steve & Suzanne's big day!

and what a day it was!

it was so awesome to spend some time with these two and their awesome families.

it was also neat to be part of a small quaint wedding :)

its always nice to have a small gathering of people to watch two people that they love say their vows and become man and wife.

these two were full of energy the whole day!

Steve kept telling me how lucky he was to have such a beautiful bride!

and he was so right!

this was my first time meeting Steve and Suzanne...I am always a little nervous about meeting a couple for the first time, whether its on their wedding day or at the initial meeting. but, I had no reason to worry about these two! they were calm, cool and collected. they were both all smiles...allllll day long :D

I love it when a couple just rolls with whatever the day brings...it makes my job so much easier when they concentrate on being Mr & Mrs :)

not only do they love each other, but also country, 80's rock and christian music, NASCAR, and chocolate! ahhh....I love it when clients love chocolate :) that normally means that there will be chocolate at some point in the night :D

and yes, there was chocolate :D

these two love being together as well...they even work for the same company!

I would certainly describe them both as being funny, bubbly, and bursting with energy for a good time!

today I have for you a sneak peak of the Lake Geneva wedding that Kim & I shot this past weekend!

it was a small and quaint wedding with lots of family

I didn't realize that Lake Geneva was such a tourist attraction though!

guess that goes to show you where I spent my summers ;)

not in Lake Geneva apparently

despite the heat an humidity that has been plaguing WI lately, Suzanne and Steve were all smiles :)
