I’ve created a website dedicated to Debbie Dale, the assistant athletics administrator over at Cal State San Marcos. She was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer and has a short time to live. I’ve decided to put together a short video for her to help uplift her spirits at her retirement party on September 12th. I’d like any and all friends she had to participate so I’m trying to spread the word as I’ve only got a few weeks to get this done!

Sadly, sequels to big budget blockbusters are often times not very good and “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” was no exception. I walked out after about an hour of viewing the film, it was terrible. Do not get me wrong, the special effects were some of the best I have ever seen - even I was thinking to myself “wow, I can’t discern between what’s real and what’s an effect” which really impressed me. The film was able to integrate the computer generated characters quite well with the live actions ones - it’s just that the acting and the writing were absolutely horrible.

For example, the main attraction (Prince Caspian) acted like a mama’s boy during the entire time I watched the film - come on Andrew Adamson (film director), at least give us something we can admire along side all those glittering special effects.

The actors just stood around and looked at each other, and then looked at each other some more… and then said extremely cheesy lines. They just stood around and attempted to look pretty, it was pathetic. I think the best actors were the computer generated ones, especially that “cute” mouse who really kicked some ass. Oh wait, the mouse’s strategy to take on the enemy is to “throw nuts at them”, horrible attempt at comic relief. Short answer: learn to write.

Just to underline this movie’s pitiful attempt at entertainment, there was a scene where the little girl (of the 4 main characters) decided to befriend a wild bear (yea, smart) and her comment of: “he’s a bear, we’re friends!” was nothing short of stupid. The bear chargers with blood lust as expected while the girl’s older sister decides to hold her arrow and not shoot the beast dead - at least the dwarf knew how to kill something, I liked him.

I recommend seeing this movie if you feel like being ripped off and cheated. I certainly feel that way. I’ve directed better films in my spare time.

The company that I currently consult with is looking for 4 new developers - let me say it again, they’re looking for 4 new developers and are offering a pretty sweet deal.

Work on developing web software for the media and online news paper industry in a linux, apache, mysql environment. If you understand or have used perforce (code versioning) that will be a plus but is not necessary.

Salary ranges from 80-100K depending on what you can bring to the table. Little bureaucracy and a lax working environment (shorts, flipflops) make the organization an attractive place to build your career. Located in Carlsbad, CA near the ocean.

Today I recieved a link from a friend of mine today regarding a speech that astronomer Carl Sagan gave back in 1994 comparing our world to the vast expanse of the universe.

Here is a photo of Earth from many billions of miles away, taken by Voyager 1 in 1990, shown in his presentation:

Aside from Carl’s points, I also think this photo demonstrates how easy it would be for humans to miss another potentially advanced culture, seeing that our world can be so easily missed amoung the vast emptyness that is space.

Ever wonder how many alien civilizations are out there? Read up on the Drake Equation, it’s an interesting way to quantify the uncertainty of the factors which determine the number of extraterrestrial civilizations that we have a chance at coming into communication with.

I’m curious to see if anyone knows the name associated to the web result that mlsstudios is now getting, what do you call it when site’s have their popular pages “grouped” together in the search results like mine?
Update: I received an answer from a friend on mine, the term is referred to as “sitelinks“. It’s also possible to block sitelinks if you feel Google has incorrectly or inappropriately placed sitelinks in their search results.

After waiting 8 months for this movie to be released in theaters, I’d have to say the wait was not worth it. The special effects were pretty good, save for the saber-toothed-tiger animation, but the acting from the leading guy wasn’t believable and the movie plot seemed a bit formulaic, been there done that kind of feeling. Sigh. Not to mention the blind man near the end of the film that hilariously spoke the future… that part was just asking for somebody to make fun of it. No, don’t waste your hard earned money to view this one (even if it’s not hard earned).
