I know there are times when this site can appear to be a ghost town but this isn't my full time job so sometimes MMA Roundup gets put lower on the priority list than I'd like it to be. With Strikeforce Challengers 20, UFC 139: Shogun v. Hendo and Fedor/Monson all taking place this weekend Bellator 58 had an uphill climb to stand out. Was it better than UFC 139? I dont' think so but I'd definitely say it was a pretty good card with some great stories going on like Michael Chandler (above photo) taking out Bellator's Lightweight ace Eddie Alvarez to take the Lightweight title, Hector Lombard adding another body to his trail of victims in his 20-fight win streak, Marlon Sandro scoring a rare submission win and Jessica Aguilar getting revenge on the person who beat her in her first MMA fight Lisa Ellis-Ward. Wow! That was awesome. At UFC 139 Dan "Hendo" Henderson defeated Mauricio "Shogun" Rua by unanimous decision in what many are now calling the "greatest MMA fight of all time." Although not the first non-title 5-Round UFC Main Event, it was the first to actually go the full five rounds. An amazing five rounds of back and forth action which saw "Hendo" dominate the first few frames only to have "Shogun" finish the fight on top.

The main event shared Fight of the Night honors with fan-favorites Wanderlei Silva and San Jose's Cung Le. Silva managed to extend his career by taking out the new UFC signee. Check out the rest of the results and fight bonuses:

UFC on FOX 1: Aftermath

Last night, on its 18th Birthday, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) finally debuted on free network television, celebrating the start of a seven-year deal with FOX. The only match shown in the 1-hour time slot was the World Heavyweight Title match: UFC Champion Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos. Although the bout was scheduled for 5 Five-Minute rounds, it only lasted a little over a minute after dos Santos knocked out the defending champ first with a big right hand to the side of the champ's head knocking him down and then a flurry on the mat to finish him off and claim the title.

The production value was great and appeared as flawless as a live event could be. The biggest complaint about the event that I've read on our Facebook page is that the Benson Henderson vs. Clay Guida barn burner was omitted from the 1-hour FOX broadcast. Instead the main event was sandwiched between a pre-fight introduction to UFC as well as Pre & Post-fight analysis with FOX's Curt Menefee, UFC President Dana White and former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar.

I personally didn't have a problem with them not airing the fight on the FOX broadcast because I watched the entire card FREE on my HD television from the Facebook stream on my laptop. And if you didn't have a computer or way of streaming it to your TV, Bendo/Guida also aired along with the Dustin Poirer vs. Pablo Garza match with Spanish commentary on FOX Deportes. My point is you could've watched it if you really wanted to.

UFC on FOX will use Fox Sports Theme

Now that UFC and FOX have joined forces UFC President Dana White has stated that he wants to "change everything" and start fresh with this new deal. What does that mean exactly? Well for one, the Gladiator opening is finally getting it's long-deserved funeral. So what will you hear now that the horrific Nu-Metal opening is going away? According to an interview FOX Sports Co-President Eric Shanks did with Sherdog.com you're going to be hearing a very familiar song:

“That [NFL] theme song is such an unbelievable theme song. What we’ve done over the past year is we’ve used the NFL on Fox theme really as the Fox Sports theme because we went into an edit bay and we laid the NFL on Fox theme over baseball footage and then over NASCAR footage and we said, ‘You know what? I don’t care what sport it is. That theme gets me pumped up and gets me ready to watch whether it’s baseball, NASCAR or football.’ That theme has now transformed itself into the Fox Sports theme, and that is the theme that you’ll hear on November 12 to introduce UFC on Fox to the world.”

Josh Barnett Will Be Licensed To Fight Again

Josh Barnett has passed a pre-fight drug test and will be licensed to fight at a Sept. 10 Strikeforce event bearing his name.

Ohio Athletic Commission Executive Director Bernie Profato today confirmed the news to MMAjunkie.com.

"In fairness to this young man, he cooperated 110 percent," Profato said.

Barnett (30-5 MMA, 1-0 SF) meets Sergei Kharitonov (18-4 MMA, 1-0 SF) in the main event of "Strikeforce Grand Prix: Barnett vs. Kharitonov," which takes place Sept. 10 at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati. The heavyweight fight serves as one of two semifinal bouts in the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix tournament with Antonio Silva vs. Daniel Cormier occupying the opposite bracket. The event's main card airs on Showtime.

Profato said additional drug testing is standard procedure for athletes who previously have failed a screen. The California State Athletic Commission, of course, denied Barnett a license to fight in summer 2009. Seven years prior, he was flagged for steroids following his title-winning fight against Randy Couture at UFC 36. He was later stripped of the title.

"So we had him tested, and we're satisfied that he's clean, as far as coming into the fight, and we're going to test all four of [the grand-prix fighters] plus a couple of random fights at the event," he said.

The test, which Profato said was an "extensive" procedure, took place 10 days ago at an independent, OAC-approved facility in Southern California.

UFC 134: Silva vs. Okami 2 (aka UFC Rio) was UFC's triumphant return to Brazil, the birthplace of Gracie/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The event featured three of UFC's top Brazilian fighters, BJJ black belts Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera and his pupil Anderson SIlva, yet strangely none of the twelve bouts actually featured a submission win. In spite of that, the Gracie Brothers, Ryron and Rener Gracie have put together a video breaking down the events of UFC 134 including the BJJ used in the Paulo Thiago and David Mitchell bout.

Chael Sonnen Won't Be In Brazil for UFC 134

TUALATIN, Ore. – Chael Sonnen wanted to be in Yushin Okami's corner for UFC 134, and he still has a plane ticket to Rio de Janeiro.

It's Brazil that doesn't want him there.

Sonnen said a major sponsor of Okami's requested he not attend the pay-per-view event, which takes place Saturday at Rio's HSBC Arena.

A source with knowledge of the situation told MMAjunkie.com that Praetorian, a Brazil-based MMA brand, threatened to pull the Japanese fighter's sponsorship if Sonnen attended.

"There's a line of people that want to kick his ass," the source said.

And that could be the least of problems for the expert trash-talker. Sonnen said friends in the country forwarded him a local-media report in which a police chief threatened to arrest him on sight if he showed. The official cited a law that makes disparaging the national identity a crime.

"You don't have freedom of speech in Brazil; put it like that," Sonnen told MMAjunkie.com after a workout at Team Quest Tualatin.

The source said Sonnen's claim is untrue. But the fighter's bombastic interviews have created quite a stir.

In several highly circulated clips and on Twitter, Sonnen has maligned the South American country and several of its most popular fighters. Former light-heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida has been a favorite target, as have national icons and brothers Antonio Rodrigo and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

"The Chael Sonnen Show" kicked off its next season today in Philadelphia, and the UFC middleweight was back to his insult-comedy stylings.

It didn't take long, though, before his past caught up to him, or before he had to utter the "s" word – and not Sonnen, perhaps his most favorite word of all.

Nope, that word is steroids, and the onetime title challenger met the question with typical bravado that suggested more troll than truth.

Holding court at a Q&A session for UFC Fight Club fans in advance of weigh-ins for Saturday's UFC 133, Sonnen seemed to know the question – "What does he think of them?" – was on its way.

"There's two things you can do," he said. "If somebody does steroids, you can kick him out and throw him away forever. Or, you can just open up an all-steroid league and let the games begin.

"Put it in your body, don't put it in your body, one-on-one, two-on-one, five-on-one, I'll make sure they all need nine-one-one."

In an industry once dominated by the "skull and cross bones" clothing designs of Affliction, TapouT and other sponsors, a new option has arrived. Last year, while browsing through MiddleEasy.com, I was introduced to VXRSI [vuhr-sahy] which means "way or direction, against, versus." Their tribute t-shirt to the epic battle between UFC veteran Royce Gracie and PRIDE ace Kazushi Sakuraba was a breathe of fresh air from the rest of the brands available in the MMA landscape. UFC President Dana White is back at it with another series of YouTube video blogs, this time for UFC 133: Evans vs. Ortiz 2. Although this particular video has nothing to do with the fights, Dana is kind enough to share some personal video from his summer vacation with his family. White's kids learn how to surf then get skateboarding lessons from skating legend Tony Hawk, Snowboarding Olympian Shaun White and X Games champ "PLG" (Pierre-Luc Gagnon). We then see Dana at the Los Angeles Coliseum this past Saturday attending the LA Rising Music Festival featuring Muse, Lauryn Hill and Rage Against the Machine. Dana seems to have a little problem with the tickets he purchased from Stub Hub then things seem to get worked out as we see Dana jump into a "Killing In The Name Of" Mosh Pit. Last night in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, the now Zuffa-owned Strikeforce put on perhaps their most star-studded main even fight between former PRIDE Fighting Championships champions Fedor "The Last Emperor" Emelianenko and Dan "Hendo" Henderson. Henderson handed Emelianenko his third consecutive loss and the first TKO loss of his career in just the first round of the fight. Also on the card Miesha Tate forced the Women's 135lb champion Marloes Coenen to submit for the first time in her career. The wait is over. The trailer for MMA hottie Gina Carano's film "Haywire" has finally arrived. The film which was spearheaded by Academy Award winning director Steven Soderbergh as vehicle for Carano was originally set to be released back in Spring of 2011 but will now premiere in January of 2012. Carano will share the scene with movie heavyweights like Michael Douglas, Ewan McGreggor, Channing Tatum, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton and up and coming talent Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class). The trailer debuted today at Comic Con International in San Diego during the Relativity panel and has now been released by the Haywire YouTube channel.
