UFC is back in Japan huh? I don't see what the point is. Unless you're holding a tournament with Sakuraba and Tank Abbott in the same weight bracket, I'm not interested in what's going on in the land of the rising sun. Back in my day, the only reason you fought in Japan was to avoid an athletic commission. Who's to tell two men they can't fight with razor blades strapped to their foreheads? It boggles the mind it does. The men of old school MMA weren't afraid of anything though, and you couldn't keep them out of a thumb-tack filled cage if you tried. There are, of course, a few bad apples in the bunch though.

Returning to the octagon following a loss is never easy for a modern-day MMA competitor, but coming off of four consecutive losses seems downright impossible, on paper. UFC welterweight competitor and fan favorite Dan Hardy has seemingly achieved the improbable by keeping his UFC contract intact after dropping four straight contests in the UFC.

After a two and a half-year layoff, Justin McCully is back and will be making his second trip back into the cage for Resurrection Fighting Alliance. The drive to compete and to test himself is what drew him back to fighting, after going just 2-2 in the UFC. The recently turned 36-year-old didn’t know what to expect when he got back in that cage, on December 16th, to face Justin Grizzard. What he got was a TKO win, a date to fight Derrick Lewis at RFA 2 and the confidence in knowing that he can still perform at a high level in MMA.

Following an over five-year absence from the UFC, Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller fell the unfortunate victim to the pre-UFC hype machine, and his own media success with the MMA based reality show for MTV Bully Beatdown, when he made his long-awaited return to the UFC. Not only did Miller draw a top Middleweight for his return bout, by being matched up against Michael Bisping, but he would also have to play opposing coach for the most recent season of The Ultimate Fighter reality series, that aired last year on Spike TV.

The last time the UFC was in Japan, Tito Ortiz won a fight with a neck crank. The sport has come a long way. To reintroduce the Japanese market to American MMA, the UFC has brought a title fight to their shores; pitting Frankie Edgar against Benson Henderson is a FOTY candidate. Why not make some cash while we're enjoying the fights though?

The main event for the UFC on Fuel TV 1 event was awesome, and one that left MMA fans wanting more. Jake Ellenberger showed signs of absolute brilliance in the first two rounds of his fight against Diego Sanchez on Wednesday night, but it wasn’t until the last half of the 3rd round that the contest got very interesting. Diego Sanchez showed the heart of a lion, and came back to dominate the last round of a fight that lesser competitors would have given up, had they been put in as precarious of positions that Sanchez was put in during the first two rounds, or to accept the damage sustained by Ellenberger’s razor sharp strikes, and still choose to move forward attempting victory.

The knockout, it’s a fan favorite and something every fighter loves to do yet doesn’t want to be on the wrong side of it as the same time. A knockout is a violent thing of beauty for one fighter but an ungraceful disappointment for the one lying on the canvas wondering what just happened. Lucky for them there is that little thing called replay and they’ll be seeing it over and over again.
