This 3G HSDPA enabled handset also supports push email solutions and leading IM programs. The phone runs on the WINDOWS MOBILE OS and offers full application and multi-tasking support. We did a complete review of this phone; read on to find out if it's worth considering over its established rivals.

Design & Construction

I've had to frequently clarify with the OmniaPRO onlookers that it is not one of Research In Motion's (RIM) popular business phones. The misconception crops up because of design factors like the candybar design, landscape display and a full QWERTY keypad below - more popular among the BlackBerry phones. The Samsung OmniaPRO does have the same basic design, but if you look closely there are enough differences that make it stand apart from any Blackberry out there.

The OmniaPRO has a flashy design for what is essentially a business phone. It comes with chrome-edged buttons, glossy panels, and the phone's body has an overall glossy brown paint job. Too bad if you like the features of the phone but the not the shade as brown is the only color option that Samsung offers with OmniaPRO.

The front side of the phone has the call speaker at the top along with the light sensor, an LED status indicator and a video call camera. Below these is the 2.4-inch display in landscape mode. Below the display one can see the prominent 5-way D-pad along with the soft keys, the home key, and the back key. There are also the Call and End keys on the extreme left and right, respectively. Below these is a full QWERTY keypad, which is also brown. The front side is surrounded by a glossy bronze colored frame, which is possibly the most attractive bit on the phone.

On the left side are the power and volume control keys. On the right side is a microUSB port below a plastic flap, meant for connecting the phone to a charger, headset or the data cable.

As it has become a norm with the Samsung phones these days, the build quality of OmniaPRO is fabulous. It is very light, plus the design and the curves made it great to hold in your hand or carry in the pocket.

Now, if only Samsung did something about that color...

Battery Life

The Samsung OmniaPRO comes with a 1480 mAh Li-Ion battery. The phone managed to last for up to 2 days on a single charge. The usage consisted of a few calls, messages, and music playback, browsing over EDGE and Wi-Fi and some amount of GPS usage. The display brightness was set to the default medium-level while testing.

Competition

The Samsung OmniaPRO goes against formidable rivals like the Nokia E63 and the BlackBerry Curve 8520, both of which employ a similar design and feature set and are priced at about the same level. The Nokia E63 is the cheapest among the trio and compared to the OmniaPRO it has a lower resolution camera (2 Megapixel), no HSDPA and GPS but has an arguably better OS and interface, better web browser and also a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The BlackBerry Curve 8520 has the same set of disadvantages and to top that, it also loses on 3G completely. Further, it's available only with Airtel. It too has a better interface design and a 3.5mm headphone jack with the ability to play DivX and XviD files without having to convert them or use any 3rd party software to play them and for what it's worth, a display that is 0.24-inch larger than the OmniaPRO. And then there is the push email service.

The OmniaPRO might not have the same modern interface as the other two phones in comparison, but it more than makes up for it in terms of features. When compared, it makes the Curve 8520 feel overpriced and the marginal stretch over the E63 price worth it.

Verdict

The Samsung OmniaPRO is priced at Rs. 15,400 (MRP) but can be acquired for much less in stores. Considering the features and performance on offer, I feel the price is really good. As a business phone, the OmniaPRO works very well. Even for someone who does not want a business phone the mix of features at the price will make OmniaPRO seem very tempting.

Foremost, as you may already be aware that the Samsung Corby3650 is a BUDGET MOBILE PHONE having touchscreen and it is aimed at young mobile users.Some of primary features of this phone are, QVGA display of 2.8″ , MP3 player, 2 megapixels camera, Bluetooth 2.1, stereo FM radio and GSM/EDGE connectivity.

Overall, Corby has a satisfying performance, its widget-ready user interface functions well and camera interface is easy to use and is quite user friendly, Accroding to Eldar, it uses a NetFront web browser which runs fast enough on it.

Some main disadvantages include that it has no QWERTY keyboard and shiny screen reflects in the sunlighs and almost becomes impossible to read.

The Corby's casing is made entirely out of pretty cheap glossy plastic that looks decent, even though it's quite a fingerprint-magnet. While its front fascia always remains black, the battery cover may be black, yellow or dark-blue (the third color may vary by region) - two spare panels in total.

It's quite challenging to open the battery compartment cover, even though it's not held by any sophisticated locks or latches. Speaking of build quality, the S3650 feels sturdy, just like you'd expect from a Samsung-branded handset.

Camera

The S3650 comes equipped with a bog-standard 2 Mpix Fixed-focus camera module. The phone enjoys a landscape camera interface and allows the user to tweak all settings and change options on the fly by simply tapping on thumbnails you need right on the screen. Needless to say, this makes the phone's camera app a breeze to work with.

Overview

We were content with the S3650's reception quality, although it wasn't much different from other phones in this class. The ring tones volume was pretty average, and we even missed some calls when the phone was stuffed in a bag. The vibro alert was nothing to shout about either, as it hadn't changed at all, compared the S5600.

The Corby has what it takes to become a best seller, but its fate hinges entirely on how soon Samsung will send its price through the floor. At launch it'll retail for 225 USD, which is around the upper limit for this particular phone, although Samsung might opt to sell it for the same money as the Star, in which case it'll become uncompetitive.

As far as it direct competition goes, the only phone that comes to my mind is the Nokia 5230, but in all honesty the latter is a smartphone - some will see it as an advantage, while others won't pay attention to this fact at all. Given the Nokia 5230's price of 149 Euro, the Corby's current price tag seems somewhat inadequate. On the other hand, in Russia the Nokia 5230 will come boxed with Nokia Comes with Music service, which will boost its price tag all the way up to 260 Euro, allowing Samsun to keep the Corby's price on the current level until Q4 2009. Although in fact all they need to do is reach a 25 Euro gap in order to keep the Samsung S3650 afloat, which doesn't seem too difficult and Samsung will definitely cope with this task.

There are plenty of Cyber-shot camera phones out there for Sony Ericsson fans. Some manage to provide for great picture quality and some don’t. That’s just how it is. The C903 is the latest Cyber-shot mobile handset and here’s how it fared.

Form Factor

The C903 is a very generic device and I’m personally quite disappointed in the rather bulky and heavyset design. It has a 2.4-inch TFT LCD display with a 240 x 320 pixel resolution, which is quite standard in this day and age. The surface is supposed to be scratch-resistant but it didn’t seem to be. The slider is smooth enough and the keypad pad is quite large and well designed for typing. All of the Sony Ericsson shortcut buttons are placed exactly where they would be on any other SE handset.

On one side is SE’s proprietary all-in-one port for the handsfree, USB and charger. Since this is not a Walkman series handset you have no choice but to stick to the bundled handset. Thankfully that’s a mute issue as the set is comfortable and provides good audio for both calls and music. On the other side are the volume/zoom buttons followed by a couple of camera function keys viz. dedicated Gallery button and a Video to Still and vice versa switcher. The Shutter release key is located just below that.

he camera can be activated by sliding down the rear portion. That will reveal the lens and the dual LED flash. The M2 card port is placed under the rear panel, which can be removed by sliding back a locking mechanism placed at the bottom and popping it open.

Features and Performance

There’s absolutely nothing new about the UI. The accelerometer works only with Media menu and the browser. The themes are highly animated and colorful so the potential for battery drainage is quite high. Nevertheless the system is smooth and there’s virtually no lag while activating or running apps. Multi-tasking is a real bi**h with most SE handsets though especially if you’re using the browser and need to switch to something else.

Camera

The 5 megapixel AF camera is quite feature rich, then again most Cyber-shot camera phones are. The features include Smile Shutter with Face detection that is capable of detecting multiple faces, Photo fix which is part of the editing features, Picture blogging to Facebook, Picasa, MySpace and Blogger. You can do the same with videos. The handset also offers BestPic and a Panorama mode (manual), Scene modes, White Balance etc.

Image quality on an average was just ok. No better than any other 5 MP camera out there right now. In well-lit outdoor conditions the image reproduction is good. It doesn’t do too well with low light. Colors don't look too bad but tend to get a little blotchy in some clusters.

The Bottom Line

With a price tag of Rs. 18, 850 (includes 1GB M2 card) you’d expect a little more for the handset. It’s great from the media angle with a good media player and FM radio. What burns me is the build quality and design of the handset, the lack of Wi-Fi considering the price and the camera has great features but turns out, it’s no great shakes. So bottom line (and that’s what this is) is that the price doesn’t quite meet overall grade of functionality.

The ASUS Lamborghini range isn’t for the faint-hearted. The company’s established Lamborghini laptops are geared to petrol-loving enthusiasts and sell for prices that would make most Vauxhall drivers whimper.

The Asus Lamborghini ZX1, pictured below, features Windows Mobile 6.1. ASUS is busy applying the finishing touches to a new user interface for the Asus ZX1 and other upcoming handsets. Unfortunately, as with all Windows Mobile themes and skins, it’ll simply cover up a largely cumbersome operating system.

The phone provides HSDPA; built-in GPS; a 2.8in, 240×320 TFT screen; and 256MiB of Flash memory. Not exactly mind blowing but it does say Lamborghini on the front and has the same sharp engines you’d expect to find on a Lamborghini Murcielago.

Though CeBIT doesn’t officially start until tomorrow, we managed to get a little hands-on time and immediately found a few things to moan about. Most importantly, the Asus ZX1 just doesn’t give you the thrill you’d hope for when you’ve a Lamborghini in your hands. Maybe a bright-yellow paint job would help?

Second, the phone’s main navigation tool, a circle placed inside a Lamborghini triangle, is overly awkward to use. It’s round but it doesn’t feel that way. It’s hard to explain, so just imagine a Skoda steering wheel in a Gallardo – that’s right, just plain awkward.

Still, if you’ve a lot of money to spare and, preferably, a real Lambo on the driveway, the Asus ZX1 may appeal big-time – it can be yours in May. And, if you really want to flash the cash, there will be an abundance of accessories. Below are just a few that ASUS had on show today.

Microsoft's Pink Phone is Underwhelming

No, the phone isn't pink, it's just the name. We're talking about microsoft's (now no longer) top secret "Pink Phone", rumors about which were all over the internet not long ago.

So, folks at Gizmodo have come across two images that they say are of Microsoft's very own "Pink" smartphones codenamed "Turtle" and "Pure". The two images are obviously of two different models and we shudder to think of a scenario where Microsoft launches as many as 10 of these ovoid, chubby-looking smartphones in the future. Not convinced? Look at the image and decide for yourselves.

One of the pictured devices (The Turtle) does resemble the Palm Pre, which in itself is quite ovoid, but pales in comparison with this one! It comes with a slide out keyboard and a decent-looking screen.

The other phone looks more like a "normal" smartphone and might come across as an HTC or similar WM based handset if you do not look at it carefully. Both the phones are reportedly targeted at the youth (sigh!) and will target the same age group in the US where the likes of the Sidekick works pretty well. So, in short, the much anticipated Microsoft "Pink" phone is nowhere near the iPhone-beater that most others assumed it would be.
