Micromax A110 Canvas 2

Micromax has been coming up with some decent Android smartphones and the A110 is a perfect example that shows how Micromax has evolved from a small company producing below par entry range handsets to one of the leading Indian android manufacturers. Micromax A110 is the company’s second phablet in the budget category and overcomes the limitations of the first device. With Samsung, HTC selling dual-core Android phones for nearly Rs20,000, Micromax is offering the dual-core experience at half the price and that too with a 5inch screen.

Samsung Galaxy SII Jellybean update

Samsung had mentioned that the Galaxy SII would be getting the Android 4.1.2 Jellybean update only in February, but it looks like the Korean company is ahead of its schedule. The Samsung Galaxy SII Jellybean update has started rolling out in Spain and would be eventually available in all the other regions soon. As usual, the updates begin in the European countries and later on, move towards Asia and other regions.

Samsung Galaxy SII Jellybean update – Features

The Android 4.1 Jellybean update for Samsung Galaxy SII brings the usual Jellybean goodies like buttery smooth UI, Google Now and much more. The Android 4.1.2 Jellybean is over lapped by Samsung’s TouchWiz UI that adds a lot of software flair. The Galaxy SII misses out on the Premium Suite update because of the poor screen resolution.

The various enhancements in the Samsung Galaxy SII Jellybean update are

Buttery smooth UI and very stable (Project Butter)

TouchWiz Nature UX

Completely revamped UI – exactly same as that of the Galaxy SIII and Galaxy Note 2

Better camera features

S-Cloud features

New lockscreen with many customization options

Google Now

Better notification bar with more notification toggles

A couple of new widgets from Samsung Galaxy SIII

2 Home screen modes

Software features like Direct call, pop up play, smart stay

Samsung Galaxy SII Jellybean update – Availability in India

The update is available both as an OTA update or via Samsung Kies. For those of you, who cannot wait, the official Android 4.1.2 firmware for Samsung Galaxy S2 can be found at this link. If you do not have previous experience of manually installing the update, we suggest you wait for the official update.

Samsung lost a lot of Indian fans after it released the ICS update for the Galaxy SII in India nearly after three months of its official launch across Europe. Samsung would hope to avoid that mistake and Indians can hopefully expect the Samsung Galaxy SII Jellybean update sometime in February.

Samsung Galaxy S4 rumors are beginning to pour in and today we have a leaked image that could well be the official press image. The Samsung Galaxy S4 will not arrive at the MWC next month according to Samsung officials. Samsung is known for hosting its own event for the launch of the flagship device. The Samsung Galaxy S4 is expected to have a 5inch Full HD display and atleast a better quad-core processor than the Samsung Galaxy S3.

The leaked image has been on Picasa for quite sometime(nearly a month). The supposed press image has been uploaded by some student in Hong Kong who is in no way related to the Korean giant Samsung. From the looks of it, the image fits perfectly with the other press images of Samsung’s Galaxy devices. The Samsung Galaxy S4 looks very similar to the predecessor Galaxy S3 and it is not something hard to believe. The Galaxy S3′s design was definitely impressive and Samsung would have gone with the same look and feel in the Galaxy S4. Also the Galaxy S4 has a considerably smaller bezel and noticeably larger home button. The image looks very real and could very well be the Galaxy S4, but we have to take the information with a pinch of salt.

On thing that is controversial about the image is that the date on the screen of the supposed Galaxy S4 indicates a April 22nd announcement, but there are other rumors that Samsung is planning to unveil the device around March. Only time will tell.

The leaked image could be a Galaxy S4 or could be a make up from the existing Galaxy S3. What do you think of the design? Would you get it?

Sony Xperia S was Sony’s flagship for major part of 2012. Sony Xperia S was sadly launched with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and later was updated to Android 4.0 ICS. Sony had promised the Android 4.1 Jellybean update for Sony Xperia S and it had mentioned that the update would be available only in April. Sony seems to be hard at work for the Android 4.1 Jellybean update for Sony Xperia S. We have screenshots from Sony’s official Android 4.1 update for Sony Xperia S.

The leaked firmware for Xperia S has somehow landed at XDA-forum. The folks at XDA-forum were kind enough to test the leaked ROM and post a few screenshots. The leaked firmware is surely in its early stages as there are numerous bugs. Some of the noticeable changes include a completely revamped lockscreen, new set of power management tools, one touch screen mirroring and definitely the Buttery smooth UI of Jellybean.

The update is still in a early stage and so we are thinking that Sony will stick to its original update schedule. The update may be available only in April although there is a small chance of the update reaching us earlier than expected.

What do you think of the new lockscreen? Are you excited about the Jellybean update for your Sony Xperia S?

Firefox OS

For those of you who do not know, Mozilla is planning to launch a new smartphone OS – Firefox. Firefox OS is primarily for touchscreen devices and Mozilla has been busy working on the project. Today Firefox has landed on first mobile devices which are developer preview phones – Keon and Peak. Firefox OS mainly aims to target the mid-range smartphones.

The first among the two devices is Keon which has surprisingly below par specifications for a device these days with a 3.5inch HVGA display, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB Internal memory, microSD card slot,3MP camera and a 1580mAh battery. Being light on specifications, the Keon is expected to demonstrate Firefox OS’s main target range – entry and mid-range devices.

The second developer phone that Mozilla unveiled is Peak. Among the two, Peak is the higher end device with a 1.2GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 chipset, 4.3inch qHD display, 4GB ROM, 512MB RAM, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera and 1800mAh battery.

One thing common to both the phones is that they run on Mozilla’s Firefox OS. Apart from the specifications, both the smartphones come with WiFi, 3G, GPS and microUSB connectivity. Mozilla had mentioned that these developer phones will be shipping from February, but has failed to mention details about the pricing.

Samsung built the foundation for the phablet industry with their Galaxy Note and ever since, the phablet market has been a very successful hunting ground for the manufacturers. The first Galaxy Note had a 5.3inch display and that was very big in that age. A couple of weeks back, Huawei expanded the horizons of the phablet device with the 6.1inch display bearing Huawei Ascend Mate.

Sony was rumored to be working on a huge 6inch device and now we have a leaked display component that indicate that Sony is indeed working on a 6.44inch device to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. The leaked image shows a huge display bearing the Sony logo on top. On thing that has been tricky with the leaked component is that there are no speaker grills. This could mean that the device may come out as a media player rather than a phablet.

This could be one of those devices that Sony is concentrating on, to revive the Walkman series. Being a hueg 6.44inch, the device will be extremely tough to hold on to with one hand. We will have to wait for Sony to announce it at the MWC 2013.

LG Optimus G

The LG Optimus G and Nexus 4 are two high end Android twins that are yet to set their foot on Indian soil. LG had stated back in December 2012 that both the Optimus G and Nexus 4 will be coming to India, but we are yet to receive more communication from the Korean giant.

The LG Optimus G has recently sold 1 million units across US, Canada, South Korea and Japan. LG has revealed that the LG Optimus G (with Jellybean) will be soon available across 50 more countries. LG hasn’t yet given the details of the countries or the specific release dates, but has mentioned that it would happen this month. Also, the phone will be equipped with LTE support where LTE network is there. The camera will probably be a 8MP version as LG seems to desire a consistency across the globe.

Micromax A116 Canvas HD

The entry range Indian phablets are really making a mark in the Indian android market with a lot of features and an affordable price tag. Micromax is one of the front runners of the Indian phablet industry and are likely to hold on to that position for the near future. Their second phablet – Micromax A110 Canvas 2 was a huge hit.
