This is the app you’ve been waiting for. Functioning very similarly to Notepad for Windows, Just Notepad for Android lets you note down all of those little but very important things that you need to remember. It couldn’t be easier to use; just open the app, type or paste the required text and shut it down again. Simple! If you have a few things to remember, just create a few notes. It works like a physical notepad, you can jot on page after page without losing your earlier entries.

Just Notepad for Android also has a few nifty extra features. If your note is something you want to share, set it to publish automatically to Facebook or Twitter. View a html preview of any snippets of code you’ve recorded, mail the note to yourself or someone else and read or write to SD card files. All in all, it’s pretty handy!

• Cut and Slice – This is a VERY addictive, brain-challenging game. All you need to is cut the carton into equally-sized slices but, of course, it’s trickier than you might think. Put your skills to the test as you carve your way through multiple levels. How many perfect levels can you rack up? You get 25 hints to start with but use them wisely!

• Red Hot Chili Peppers – This official app is an absolutely must for any fans of RHCP! Packed full of band-related news, photos, videos, tour dates and info and even merchandise, it’s a one-stop-shop for getting your Chilis fix! Any updated news is communicated via the app, so you’ll always be right at the cutting-edge of what’s happening in the band’s world.

• Airbnb – This accommodation marketplace lets people around the world list their holiday home, spare room or other accommodation for hire to guests. Containing everything from a room to a castle and from a villa to a bed and breakfast, Airbnb can be accessed anywhere and offers a great way to find a unique and trusted place to stay. Covering 19,000 cities, the app is sure to have something to suit your taste and budget! It can even help you find somewhere to stay the same night if you find yourself stuck.

• Just Notepad for Android – This is fantastic. We’ve been looking for a Notepad-esque Android app for quite a while and here it is. A great way to note your ideas, store an address or phone number you’ll need soon, or a to-do list for that day. All you need to do is launch the app, type or paste in the details you want to note and you’re done. You can even set it to publish to Facebook or Twitter when required.

• Pixel Rain – There’s nothing we enjoy more than a great puzzle game and Pixel Rain has definitely piqued our interest. Drop items to build shelters for your precious possessions. The pixel rain will destroy them, so be quick! The game features 64 pleasingly challenging levels and promises more to come!

• Monster Galaxy – The Zodiac Islands – Use spells, special items and attacks to battle your way to the top of the Monster Tamer leaderboard. This new role-playing game lets you fight and tame over one hundred wild monsters, travel around 14 zodiac-themed islands and watch the story progress as you get close to defeating the evil King Otho. Also available on Facebook!

• Fluff Friends Rescue – Forget restaurants and farms, it’s time to build your own pet rescue centre. Check the woods for lost pets and take them to be checked over by your resident vet. Next, it’s off to the groomers for a nice bit of pampering! Developed in partnership with the Humane Society of the United States, Fluff Friends Rescue has quite a young target audience and reaches out to them well.

• Tap Buggies – Another simulation game, this time involving building and nurturing a bug community. Start off with a small town, then watch as new content unlocks as you grow. Each room has its own unique buggy, there are four different areas to explore, upgrades can be crafted in workshops and everything you do earns you money which you can use to expand further! Just remember to turn off in-app purchases before lettings any kids play.

• NFL 2011 – A must for iOS-using football fans, NFL 2011 brings you right through the playoffs and up to the Superbowl XLVI. Featuring live scoring and play-by-play accounts, access to NFL.com podcasts, videos of coaches press conferences, in-game highlights, customizable alerts, breaking news and up-to-the-minute stats, you couldn’t ask for any more NFL information!

• NBA Game Time 2011-2012 – And now one for the basketball fans! NBA Game Time 2011-2012 is the ideal way to keep in touch with the game no matter where you are. Focus on your favorite team, watch highlights, access news, stats and information, NBA Twitter feeds and more. Again, you couldn’t really ask for more from an app.

• Apparatus – This one will delight the engineers and would-bes amongst us. Your mission is to design and build a machine to carry out various tasks. Ropes, bridges, teeter totters, hammers, wrenches and batteries are amongst the tools you have at your disposal. Can you work out how to move the marbles?

• Grabatron – Take over a UFO complete with grabbing claw and set off on a mission to destroy the puny humans! You can do pretty much whatever you like to them – grab, toss, crush and abduct the pesky people to take over the planet. The app includes over 30 different missions, a massive world to play in and fantastic physics and gameplay. Awesome!

• Dead Space – It’s not one for the kids, but Dead Space is a totally amazing game. Finally available for Android, this latest instalment in the franchise will not disappoint loyal fans. Fight the necromorphs and appreciate the amazing visuals as you’re terrified by this epic sci-fi adventure. It may well convert you to mobile gaming for ever!

• Camera Zoom FX – Rated as the best Android photography app by quite a few reliable sources, Camera Zoom FX is well worth investing in. There are too many great features to list here but a few highlights include optical/digital zoom, fully customizable buttons, autofocus, night vision, white balance, timer, voice-activated shooting and tons of post-processing options. Basically, if you use your Android camera, you need this app!

• Juice Defender Ultimate – One of the most common complaints about smartphones is how quickly the battery runs of power. This app is guaranteed to vastly improve your battery life by allowing you to customize a number of options. For example, setting your phone to turn off web access when it’s locked will save a whole load of juice! Highly recommended!

• Run Roo Run – This app uses the tried and tested single screen platformer mode to produce yet another great iPhone app. Play as mother kangaroo, navigate the obstacles and work your way through all four hundred levels to save your kidnapped Joey. The journey from Sydney to Perth has never been as much fun!

• Color Texting for iMessages – Add a splash of color to iMessage and text messages with this nifty app. Color Texting for iMessages does exactly what it says on the tin – lets you add color to your messaging. Colored bubbles, text, cursive fonts, textured bubbles, glowing fonts and ghost themes are just some of the awesome effects you can add. Sweet!

• Numberlys – This is another fantastic children’s ebook from the creators of The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr Morris Lessmore. Youngsters will adore this interactive mix of King Kong, Metropolis, Flash Gordon, the Marx brothers and Superman. It really is THAT good! Oh, it will teach them about the origins of the alphabet too.

• ZDAY Survival Simulator – Are you afraid of a zombie-run apocalypse? If so, this is the app for you. Working on the premise that the best way to learn something is to practise it, this app simulates a zombie attack and teaches you how to make the right choices to stay ahead of the undead. Taking a leaf out of those old multiple-choice adventure books, this is  a fantastic app.

• Tiki Kart 3D – Who doesn’t love kart racing? This 3D game depicts it perfectly, giving you full control over your vehicle, which is subject to realistic physics and very competitive opponents. Travel deep into the volcano to discover some amazing vehicles, then race your way around all 15 tracks. With 8 karts to choose from and a selection of boosts and weapons, you’re sure to have a blast.

Zombie Farm is a farm game with quite a big twist. The twist being that, although you can grow normal plants, you also nurture and grow your very own undead army. The game includes a decent variety of different zombies and crops which you can master alone or combine to create interesting zombie hybrids.

Containing the level of customization you’d expect from a social game, Zombie Farm lets you unleash the force of your lurching cadavers onto other farms and visit your neighbours for bonuses. Definitely worth a shot!

Rather than creating your own words from a set of tiles, as you do in Words with Friends, Scramble with Friends presents you with a board of letters, which you need to swipe to create as many words as possible. Words can be written left to right, right to left, upside down and back to front – it doesn’t matter as long as the tiles you use are adjacent.

As you’d expect, you can play against your friends. These challenges take the form of 3 two-minute scrambles to see who can score the highest. Logging in with your Facebook account lets you play against anyone in your network. Don’t forget to use your power-ups!

Depending on whether you’re exercising to improve your fitness, lose weight or maintain your current physique, Runtastic PRO has options to suit you. Automatically track your distance, time and speed via GPS, view graphs showing your pace and heart rate statistics, get voice feedback in any of several languages and even get motivation from your friends via social networks as you exercise. There’s nothing like your own squad of cheerleaders to keep you going! All in all, the app is fantastic. There are far too many excellent features to list here – just try it!

• Jumping Monkey – This game is pretty simple. Playing as a small monkey, you need to jump from balloon to balloon. The higher you go, the higher you score. There’s also a bird which will appear every now and again and give you a bonus! Click to get started, swipe to move the monkey.

• Kik Messenger – This app is a fantastic way to communicate with your friends, regardless of what type of smartphone they use. Send instant messages cross-platform, share photos and even take part in group chats. It’s completely free to use and works very fast. No more SMS and MMS charges!

• Noom Weight Loss Coach – We’ve all got plans to get in shape this New Year and Noom is a great app to help you on your way. It works like a personal coach, telling you what to need to do each day in order to get in shape and slim down. Compiled from the work of leading nutritionists and weight loss experts, it’s reliable, provides plenty of support and is really easy to use. Track exercise via GPS, share via Facebook and Twitter and add home screen widgets for easy access.

• HealthTap Express MD – Aimed at both patients and health professionals, HealthTap contains a database of over seven thousand physicians. Ask a question and have it answered quickly by an expert with no waiting room queues. As well as providing trustworthy answers to your questions, HealthTap lets you access up-to-date health information at any time. Once you’ve find a local doctor you like, use the app to contact them and arrange an appointment.

• Lapse It – Create your own time lapse videos with this nifty app. Snap great images using your Android camera, insert a sound track, customize the frame rate and much more. Once your video is done, share it with your friends via YouTube, Facebook, Google+ and more. The app includes tons of options such as adjustable focus, white balance and scene modes so you can make your video truly yours.

• Zombie Farm – “Not another farm game!”, we hear you say. Well, yes, it is a farm game but this one has a huge difference. Zombies! Rather than just growing boring crops such as corn and potatoes, this farm grows the undead. Choose from a range of zombie varieties, grow your own horde and then unleash them on enemy neighbors. Once you’ve mastered the basics, try creating some cool zombie/plant hybrids.

• Temple Run – So you got the treasure but now you need to find your way out of the maze-like temple. Swipe the screen and tilt your phone to move your hero, as he navigates the plethora of booby traps and obstacles. Collect power ups and bonus coins as you go. The 3D environment is awesome and the game features seven different characters and achievements to keep you occupied.

• Pinterest – The surprise social networking success of 2011 can be easily accessed wherever you are, using this handy app. Create a pinboard and stick photos of whatever you want onto it. Great for planning weddings or events, keeping track of home projects and pretty much anything else you can think of.

• Blush for Wine –  Have you ever gone to the store and found that you had no idea which wine was best for the meal you had in mind? Blush for Wine is a great app which will completely solve this problem. Scan the barcode on a bottle you’re interested in, or speak its name if you have an iPhone 4S, to learn all about the wine and what it suits best. Find the perfect wine for your favourite dinner, find wines within your budget and share great finds with your friends.

• Ask the Cheesemonger – Now that you’ve got some great wines, you need some cheese to go with it. • Runtastic PRO – Weight loss and exercise rank highly on many people’s list of New Year’s resolutions so here’s an app which will allow you to stick to your goal and make the most of your new toy.  This sports-coach app tracks things such as distance, time, speed, calories and pace to track your progress. Voice feedback provides some motivation along the way and fully customizable goals make it the perfect companion to a newly-active lifestyle.

• SlideIT Keyboard – If you want to do a lot of typing or just want your texts and Facebook updates to be easier to type, give this app a try. SlideIT Keyboard replaces the default Android keyboard and lets you enter text by simply sliding your finger around the keys. No more tapping! The on-board dictionary contains plenty of words to make sure that the prediction is accurate and it also allows speech-to-text input and handwriting recognition.

• Grand Theft Auto III – It’s definitely not one for kids, but this Android version of the epic Grand Theft Auto is, well, epic. Complete missions, steal cars and do pretty much whatever you want. The game rocks!

• Asphalt 6: Adrenaline HD – Another awesome Android game! If you’ve played any of the previous versions, you’ll know the score already; if you haven’t, you need to try this one. Build your own sweet collection from the forty-two available cars – including Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin and Ducati models. Once you’ve chosen, take part in the eleven leagues and fifty-five events or race online against your friends and random opponents.

• Monopoly – Here’s a more family-friendly game for you Android users. We’re pretty sure that everyone knows how Monopoly works but just incase you’ve been living in a bubble, here goes. Choose your token and roll the dice to begin your journey around the board, buying property and trying to avoid being thrown into jail. There are three difficulty levels and the option to save games is very handy (we all know Monopoly can go on forever!). We love the customizable options too.

• Scramble With Friends – If you love Words With Friends and Hanging With Friends, here’s the perfect new game for you. Scramble With Friends is another fab word game from Zynga, this time requiring players to make words by swiping adjacent tiles on the board. Forward ,backwards, sideways – anything goes as long as the tiles are touching. Challenge your friends, play random opponents and use power-ups wisely to become the best of the best!

• Doodle Jump – The old favorite has been updated with some great new blizzard-themed levels. You might have thought you finished it and escaped the addiction but now there’s more to occupy your free time with. Stay away from the freezing caves, avoid the penguins and icicles and try not to let the blizzard defeat you!

• Business Secrets – No matter what line of business you’re in, you’re bound to find some helpful tips in this fantastic app. Covering topics such as Project Management, NLP, Team Management, People Management, Leadership, Presentations and Marketing, this could well prove to be an invaluable business tool.

• LostWinds – We LOVE this game! Playing as Toku, a young boy who is the only person who can remove the enchanted curse from the world of Mistralis, LostWinds needs you to rescue the people from the evil genius that is Balasar. Jump and glide through the zones, smash enemies, solve puzzles and much more. You need this game in your life.

• Prizma – Puzzle games are always a winner in our book and Prizma is no exception. This new kid on the block features 90 levels, which get harder as you work your way through them,  a range of solutions from dragging stuff to mixing colors, tips to help you on your way and Facebook integration so you can boast to your friends when you crack a particularly challenging puzzle. Awesome!

The cute Sesame Street favourite is here in his very own iOS app and he wants you to help him create a monster. Elmo wants a new friend and it’s up to you to do a great job! Choose from a variety of monster bodies and add eyes, nose, mouth and maybe a hat to come up with the perfect pal for our fluffy friend. Once you’re done, Elmo will interact with your monster, showing how happy he is by dancing and playing with his new friend.

We love it!!

As we mentioned above, the Grinch lives just outside Whoville and plans to destroy Christmas by stealing all of the Whos’ presents. Why? Because he hates Christmas and hates seeing them celebrating. However, by the end of the story, he’s changed his mind after discovering the true meaning of Christmas. This e-book is a fantastic way to introduce your kids to this famous character. Another thing we love about How the Grinch stole Christmas is how it caters for readers of all abilities. The aim of the game is to help the gang set up a winter street fair. • Christmas Jukebox: Jingle Bells, Frosty the Snowman and more – It’s not Christmas without some favourite festive tunes and this app can provide plenty of them. The app includes Jingle Bells, Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Deck the Halls, Let it Snow and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. It’s really easy for kids to operate too, with recognisable buttons to start each tune. What’s more, if you don’t want to hear the same song over and over, you can activate the parental controls!

Up until now, Bejeweled 2 has been king of the castle and Blitz has been available only as a chapter of the iPhone application or as the aforementioned Facebook app. However, with the released of Bejeweled 3 came an all-new iPhone app, name simply Bejeweled. Blitz is now a standalone free app.

Bejeweled works to exactly the same much-loved formula – match 3 or more gems of the same colour to clear them from the screen, try to match 4 or 5 for a bonus and keep going until you either run out of time or matches. The app works in the same way as the others in the series – if you talk to Santa, he will repeat what you say; poking, tickling or slapping him will cause him to react appropriately. With titles such as Lego Batman, Arkham Asylum and Arkham City proving to be incredibly popular amongst both casual and serious gamers, it should come as no surprise to find that the franchise has expanded to include iOS devices. Although it’s not as in-depth as the full game, for obvious reasons, Batman Arkham City Lockdown is still pretty cool!

Playing the game involves taking on the role of Batman and doing your bit to clean up the streets of Gotham. As you face enemies such as The Joker, Two-Face and Arkham City exclusive Deathstroke, you’ll be able to choose from a selection of skins and power-ups to help you along your way. If you like Batman, comics or superheroes at all, this game will appeal to you!

• Air Penguin – To play Air Penguin, all you need to do is tilt your phone to make the penguin fly, jump and dodge his way around Antarctica. Your mission is to help the penguin rescue his family and friends from the hazards of the South Pole. Use bounces and hills to jump and fly your way to the end.

• Plumber – This is a fantastically challenging game of strategy. The pipe is leaking and you, as the plumber, have been tasked with repairing it and getting the water flowing again. • Talking Santa Free – If you or your kids love Talking Tom Cat and his friends, you need to install this app to your Android. Great for fans of physics-based games.

• Very Hungry Cat – Animal based games seem to be where it’s at in the world of apps and Very Hungry Cat is another excellent title to add to this category. As the name suggests, the cat is hungry and needs you to keep him fed. The cartoon-style graphics, day and night modes and numerous achievements will keep you enthralled as you keep Cat topped up with birds.

• Cut the Rope: Holiday Gift – Here’s a free holiday gift for all of OmNom’s fans! You know how it works, get the creature to the candy and use the new stocking feature to shoot the candy around the screen. Shaking your iPhone will give you a special holiday suprise too! It’s not all about the candy this time, you’ll need to collect the three golden stars on each level too.

• Bakery Story: Christmas – This online game lets you run your own virtual bakery with a Christmas theme. Decorate and bake delicious cakes to keep your customers happy so they return. The game is chock-full of great decor and recipes and has more awesome content added each week.

• Glee Karaoke – All you Gleeks will be pleased to hear there’s a karaoke game featuring your favourite tv programme. The built-in pitch correction and harmonies make you sound like a star as you belt out each of the 130 songs. Watch the starbursts to see how well you’re performing and progress through the new songs added each week. You can also sing along free to any song in your iTunes library.

• Bejeweled Blitz – The Facebook favourite now has it’s own standalone app. Download this to complete against your friends to get the highest scores. Bonus jewels help you to get higher scores. Earn coins by playing games and by using the Daily Spin. More coins means more bonuses!

• Color & Draw for Kids – If your kids love playing with your Android device, this is a fab drawing and colouring app to keep them amused. Including 50 colouring pages sorted into age-appropriate groups and a voice making it more than just a “tap to colour” type of app, this will truly engage your child’s creativity. You’ll probably like it too!

• Dizzy – Prince of the Yolkfolk – Dizzy was one of our favourite games back in the days of the C64 and now he’s back and optimized for smartphones. Lead Dizzy through his mission to rescue Daisy,  solving puzzles and rescuing Yolkfolk as you go. Daisy’s in a castle and Dizzy’s in a dungeon, can you navigate the caves, trees and magical land to reunite them?

• Pano – If you’re interested in panoramic photography, this app is for you. Snap up to sixteen photos to create a seamless panorama using your Android camera. The editing tools are fantastic, with a semi-transparent guide to help you line the images up perfectly and great alignment, colour correction and blending tools to add the finishing touches. We really love that you can finish your image later if you get interrupted.

• Doodle Pool – There are quite a few pool apps available for Android but we’re particularly taken with this one. Designed to appeal to casual gamers, Doodle Pool has great animation and really simple controls. Touch anywhere on the screen to take aim, then just slide your finger back and let go to shoot. Choose from 8-ball, 9-ball, time attack or 2 player modes.

• Space Invaders Infinity Gene – Surely Space Invaders is THE iconic retro videogame? This contemporary version is just as awesome as the original was way back when. Working similarly to the classic to begin with, Space Invader Infinity Gene evolves as you play so it grows with you. Amazing!

• Angry Birds Seasons – The Angry Birds series is still going strong and is back with another great episode. Like last year, this Christmas edition lets you access one new level a day, in the style of an advent calendar. All of the levels are pleasingly tricky (so far!) and, if you’ve bought the Mighty Eagle, you can now use it in Seasons too. Sweet!

• Bejeweled – We all love Bejeweled 2 and its Facebook Blitz game and here’s a brand new version of the jewel-matching game for us to enjoy. Based on the brand new Bejeweled 3, this game follows the classic formula with some hidden added extras. Play modes include Classic, Zen and Diamond Mine. Bejeweled 2 is soon to be retired from the AppStore so if you want to keep playing Blitz, you’ll need to download that separately.

• The Price is Right Decades – Now, here’s a blast from the past! We remember watching this gameshow when we were absolutely tiny and now we can take part on our iPhones. Featuring the favorite Pricing Games, Contestant’s Row, Showcase Showdown and Showcase, it’s just like being back in the 80s again. The stages, sounds and other aspects of the game have all been designed to reflect the four decades of the gameshow.

• Batman Arkham City Lockdown – This game is INCREDIBLE! If you’ve played the console version of Arkham City already, you’ll know what it’s about. If not, play it now and find out. The inmates have escaped from Arkham Asylum and Batman needs to find and defeat them one by one to restore order to Gotham. Choose from different Batman skins and take on Two Face, The Joker, Deathstroke and more evil villains.

• Infinity Blade II – Just as awesome as the original! The God King has been defeated but that doesn’t mean you can rest easy. Now you need to find the secrets behind the Infinity Blade. Explore the world of the Deathless tyrants and their Titans as you progress through the story of Siris’ live. It’s fantastic!

• Tap Fish Seasons – In this game, you’re given an aquarium and you decide which fish, plants etc to introduce to it for the best results. Fish can be bred with each other to create special breeds too. Feed your fish to help them grow, add plants and clean the tank to keep them happy. You can control up to 80 tanks at once so the potential is enormous! Visit friends’ tanks too for extra experience and coins.

• Doodle Devil F2P – If you haven’t tried this game yet, you really need to. Combining elements to discover new items and categories was the objective of Doodle God and now you’re taking the next logical step – destroying it all again. Start off with a human and an apple and try to create things like murderers, zombies and demons in order to wipe out the world.

• NFL Pro 2012 – This is quite possibly the ultimate NFL mobile game. The full NFL license allows all of the teams and players to be used as you devise strategies to defeat your opponents. Playing and winning games lets you unlock more stadiums, playbooks, boosts and more and the awesome animation and gameplay makes it a fairly realistic experience. We love it!

• Office Jerk – Just how much can you torment the Office Jerk before he snaps? This game gives you a huge number of annoying tricks to play on him, using items such as a bag of flour, angry bees, a stapler, dynamite, cupcakes and a suction cup dart. Your job is to find out just how much of your abuse he will take. With new items being added all the time, this will keep you amused for quite a while.

• My Town 2 – If you loved the real-time My Town, you won’t be disappointed with this sequel. Actually, even if you didn’t ever play or love the original, you need to give it a shot. Create a town and fill it with restaurants, shops, cafes, schools and more. Check-in to places to earn extra experience, unlock wonders and upgrade and personalise your buildings for bigger rewards. How good are your town-planning skills?

• ChuChu Rocket – The ChuChu’s are in their rocket ship and need your help to guide them through the 500 levels. Seeing as the ChuChu’s are mice, you need to keep an eye out for prowling cats and bottomless pits as you test your skills against the hundreds of puzzles.

There’s a new super-challenge mode, where you can download your friends’ teams and play against them, along with the usual favorites such as fantastic AI and all your favorite leagues and players. There’s even a new stadium for you to enjoy.

• Christmas HD – CHRISTMAS!!!! This 3d live wallpaper is making us very excited indeed. Customize your family room with decorations, stocking, lights and a  Christmas tree. • Ticket to Ride Pocket – Can 2 million players be wrong about a game? We certainly don’t think so! A pretty decent game!

In this great story, which is predominantly aimed at children but will delight readers of all ages, Charlie Brown and the gang are on a mission to find the true meaning of Christmas. With the database including more than 15,000 restaurants and the ability to search by name, location or genre, it’s guaranteed to find something you’ll enjoy.

• Glass Tower 3 – With the previous release of this game having been downloaded over 6 million times, you can almost guarantee that this will be a winner. The rules are that you need to smash the blue blocks while protecting as many of the red blocks as possible. You start each of the 150 levels with three lives and you’ll lose one each time you break a red block. How far do you think you can get?

• TGI Black Friday – Tomorrow is Black Friday! We’re already hugely excited and have pretty impressive shopping lists written up. This app will help with your bargain-hunting and hopefully will mean you bag some awesome loot. View all available ads, get notifications for updates, compare prices and nab yourself some cool stuff!

• Always Up! – We’re always impressed by the sheer number of great games available on iOS and here’s yet another one. As the name suggests, Always Up! involves a lot of jumping and hopefully a lot less falling. Make your way up through the level, collecting stars to help you progress. The app itself is free but there are some paid addons if you want to expand it. Either way, it’s a lot of fun.

• Blood & Glory – And here’s a great game for those of us who prefer some fighting and gore to puzzles and jumping. Playing Blood & Glory involves taking part in an arena battle in ancient Rome. It’s a fight to the death so, really, Glory is your only option! Do you think you can triumph? Download this ace app now and find out.

• A Christmas Santa – Ok, we’re starting with the Christmas apps. It’s only a month away now, so we’re allowed. You’re playing as Santa and Rudolph has just gone on strike 45 days before Christmas. You have no cash, so how will you get the reindeer working on time? Well, you’ll use the time to teach Santa how to fly all on his own. What are you waiting for? Time is ticking…

• Adobe Photoshop Touch – The release of Adobe’s Photoshop Touch app for Android has been widely discussed across the web recently and, once you try it out, it’s easy to understand why. Containing all of the core Photoshop feature but redesigned for optimal performance on a tablet, Photoshop Touch is a fantastic design and editing tool for use on the move.

• World Cruise Story – The creators of Game Dev Story are back with yet another fantastic simulation game. This time you’re the captain of a cruise liner, designing the ultimate ship for entertaining VIPs on the high seas. Sumptuous suites, casinos, restaurants and hot-tubs – buy and install whatever you think will make your high-class holiday business a success.

• Bag It! – Billed as being like Tetris meets Toy Story, Bag It! is an enthralling puzzle game involving bagging up your groceries. It’s more fun than you might think from that description! Put the heavy items at the bottom and lightest ones near the top, sounds simple but it’s more complicated when it comes down to it. Definitely one to try out.

• Riptide GP – This is the first ever console-quality watersport game for mobile and it is absolutely fantastic! The water physics is incredibly realistic, dual-core device users will be able to see their reflections and the animation and environments are stunning. • WidgetLocker Lockscreen – We love customizing our phones and adding as much of a personal touch to them as possible. This ace app lets you create a custom lockscreen, which we were very impressed by. Use sliders, Android widgets and app shortcuts in a variety of themes including Ice Cream Sandwich, Sense and Rotary. There are plenty of user-defined themes to choose from too. You can make your phone look pretty sweet, pretty easily.

• A Charlie Brown Christmas – Christmas! That’s yet another awesome day to come soon. In this app, Snoopy’s best pal, Charlie Brown tries to find the true meaning of Christmas. This interactive storybook is fantastic for kids of all ages, as well as adults who remember the characters from their childhood. It’s even narrated by the guy who did the original voice of Charlie Brown. Extras include decorating your own Charlie Brown-themed Christmas tree and images which come to life with a tap of your finger.

• NFL Flick Quarterback – How good a QB do you think you are? This app will let you test out your skills without running the risk of being squashed by a massive linebacker! The game includes all 32 NFL teams and needs you to play as QB of your favorite, using the flick controls to outwit the defenders and get the ball to your teammates. For an extra challenge, you’ll have to battle against realistic weather conditions – can you execute a perfect throw in strong winds? It’s pretty awesome.

• Superman – This official game sees you play as the most famous superhero as he battles to save Metropolis. You’ll need to fight Lex Luther and his thugs, mechanical fighters and more across 18 levels to reign supreme and save humanity. Don’t worry, you have all of Superman‘s powers at your disposal – super-breath, heat vision, super-strength and super speed. Good luck!

• Flick Home Run – If baseball is more your thing, try out Flick Home Run. Use a flicking motion to send the ball soaring through the sky, allowing you and your teammates to score home runs. Just use your finger like a bat! With five play modes and a level-up system, this game will really test your flicking skills. Fun!

• Amazing Breaker – With 60 levels of ice-smashing fun, some reviewers have proclaimed this game to be better than Angry Birds. That’s some claim to make! The only way to find out if it’s true is to play it yourself. It’s a really fun, puzzling game – you need to point and shoot to smash the crystals. The 60 levels are all brilliant and there’s even more to come when you find yourself mastering them all. Recommended!

The game is based on the same idea as the online games Mafia Wars and Mafia Wars 2, where players team up with their friends to create their very own Mafia. Playing the game, completing missions, robbing other players and fighting will earn experience, cash and new weapons and armour for you. Keep going until you’ve built the strongest mafia you possibly can!

Mafia Wars Shakedown still features all of these much-loved aspects but also has a new twist to it. You still need to team up with others to build a mafia, you still need to rob and fight others to progress but, this time round, it’s all about the collections. While collections are a part of the online game, they’re not integral to the gameplay. The winner of the mobile game is the one with the most complete collections so what are you waiting for. While playing the game, you will be playing as both Ezio and Altair, depending on the task you’re undertaking. Your mission is to stealthily work your way through Constantinople, with each character playing their part during a different time in history. The user interface is very easy to use and quite intuitive and the app  itself contains an array of fantastically useful tools and features. The photo editing section is chockfull of all of the tools you would expect – crop, straighten, color adjusting, sharpen and retouching tools – and there’s also a nice range of special effects, presets and a handy metadata viewing feature. Basically, whatever you want in a photo-editing app, you’ll find it in Photogene2. We especially like the fact that you can compare the original to the version you’re working on at any time; it’s great for making sure the project is going how you wanted it to.

One of the other great things about this app is that it works directly with your iPhone photos and albums, removing the need to import your images before you can work on them. Anyway, we’ve said enough now – just go get it!

• Uloops Studio Lite – Ever fancied having a full music studio in your pocket? Even better, a totally free one? If so, or even if the thought never occurred to you until right now, you should get yourself to the Android Market and download Uloops Studio Lite. Create your own music tracks and add effects, drums, loops, recordings and more. You’ll be a pop star in no time!

• Feedly – Feedly is a great way to create a personalized magazine that’s always ready and waiting on your Android device. The app integrates with the likes of Tumblr, Twitter, Google Reader, Facebook, Read it Later and more to collate all of your favourite sites into one easy to read format.

• EggDrop – This is a great local marketplace where you can buy, sell and search for items. The app cleverly matches local buyers and sellers and the Egganomics make sure that cashing in on your unwanted items and buying those you need benefits as many people as possible. With no listing or transactions fees, real-time messaging between buyers and sellers and reputation to show how reliable a member is, EggDrop is a pretty great service!

• Crazy Garage – Zuma Games – Zuma ranks up there with Bejeweled type games when it comes to puzzles which have taken over large chunks of our lives. What you need to do is shoot the colored balls to clear the lines of them rolling into the garage before the reach their destination. If the first ball gets to the end of the puzzle, you lose. Use the special balls as often as you can and see just how goo you can get. Very simple, very addictive!

• Sketch n Draw – This app is perfect for unleashing your creative side when you’re on the move. Whether you’re sketching an idea for some coursework or a work project or just doodling to pass some free time, the selection of 11 brushes, multiple canvas sizes and other great features make for a lot of fun and great results.

• Duck Hunt Crazy – Remember Duck Hunt on your ancient Nintendo? The blocky ducks and clunky guns were the hi-tech gaming gizmos of the time and everyone loved it. Now you can play a new, souped-up version on your iPhone. With five weapons to choose from, 12 types of ducks and dogs, 4 play modes and four maps, it’s back in style and more fun than ever!

• Mingle! – Mingle is a new form of professional social networking, which can be used to find others in your field, search for available jobs or just broadcast what you can do for all to see. You can link to your Facebook and LinkedIn accounts so all of your details are easily accessible. Pretty handy!

• Reflexions – This app is packed full of intriguing puzzles while also acting as a festival of neon lights. What you need to do is rotate the mirror to reflect the light around each level, collect the diamonds and avoid any obstacles which may appear in your path. Reflexions looks great with its HD animation and is surprisingly relaxing to play.

• Snowfall Live Wallpaper – If you’re one of those people who can’t wait for the snow to come, this app will keep you happy until the earth freezes over once again! This live wallpaper features falling snow and can be applied to any homescreen in landscape or portrait modes. Customize it however you like with color settings, Santa sightings, time of day changes and more.

• Air Control – This flight simulator involves you guiding the plane as the pilot brings it in to land. As an Air Traffic Controller, you need to use your drawing skills to make sure the aircraft land on the runways. Avoiding collisions is key! There are 4 different maps and an extra puzzle mode to make it even more entertaining.

• SimCity Deluxe – Another old favourite back with an Android twist, SimCity Deluxe will not disappoint fans of the original series. Build your city and  find out how good your town planner skills are. A range of major events, from disasters like heat waves to greats like hosting the World Games, can be bestowed on your city and you need to work out how to best handle them. Equally good for casual players and hardcore gamers, this one is well worth trying out.

• Assassin’s Creed Revelations - This final instalment in the Assassin’s Creed story is a must for dedicated gamers. Playing as both Ezio and Altair at different times, your mission is to annihilate your enemies, recruit and deploy new assassins and reveal the ultimate secrets of the Assassins Brotherhood. You even get to use DaVinci’s flying machine!

• Scribblenauts Remix – Help Maxwell get the Starite by creating absolutely any item that you can think of. Just type in what you want (Colossal red car? Tiny blue sheep?) and the game will create it. Use these items to complete the 40 levels of Scribblenauts Remix and earn some Game Center achievements.

• Photogene2 for iPhone – The original Photogene went down a storm with iOS users and it’s now back with even more excellent features. With a smart user interface, full photo editing capabilities, a range of special effects and a multitude of other awesome photo-related features, it will blow your mind. • EPOCH – This is an immense action game. Piece together the fragments of civilization after a post-apocalyptic world. Only robots have survived the carnage and they’re stuck right in to this war. Your job is to complete the puzzle and find out exactly what caused the last world to end. Is it time for another Epoch?

There are over 500 subjects to choose from and the app will learn what you like and give you only relevant suggestions.

• Air Penguin – Mastering this game just requires tilting your phone. Sound easy? It’s not! You can pin interesting items directly from your camera with a location added, leave comments on your pins and those of your friends and get some great recommendations from others.

• WebMD – This is an incredibly useful app for anyone working in the medical profession. With 24/7 mobile access to huge databases of medical information, WebMD makes it easier to diagnose and make important decisions on the go. The app includes a symptom checker, information on various conditions, appropriate drugs and treatments and much more. It could well prove invaluable in an emergency.

• SpeedDate: Real Dates in Real Time – If you’re bored of conventional dating, internet dating and pretty jaded with the scene in general, why not try a whole new kind of dating? Speed dating via your iPhone is well worth experiencing! With over 17 million members worldwide and rewards which let you unlock more features the more you use the app and location-based filtering and non-complying members being weeded out regularly, it’s got to be worth a try. • GasBuddy – Find Cheap Gas Prices – We’ve mentioned this one before but that was quite a while ago and we think it’s worth refreshing your memory. Just one click will show you locations and prices for nearby gas stations and using the app gets you entered into a prize draw. Win win!

• MapQuest 4 Mobile – If you’re looking for a turn by turn GPS navigation system, this one is ideal. With voice-guided directions, live traffic updates, point of interest search for finding restaurants and amenities, energy saving mode and both walking and driving directions, MapQuest is a good bet for a great sat nav!

• The Adventures of Tintin HD – If you’re excited about the Tintin movie, here’s an exclusive Android game to provide even more entertainment. Definitely one to try out.

• The Sims 3 – Anyone who hasn’t heard of the Sims must have been living in outer space for the past decade or so. The simulation game has been immensely popular on PC, Xbox, Playstation and more and here’s the Android version. Create your own Sim and customize their appearance, character and more before deciding how their life will pan out. There are 73 goals to unlock by staying in touch with what your Sim really wants. This game is fantastic!

• Sketch Wars – Yet another fun Android game! Sketch Wars has a bit of a difference in that the enemies you battle are hand-drawn sketches. Don’t let that fool you though, they’re still as mean as you’d expect! The game is based on the Asteroids style and features great hand-drawn animation, loads of enemy types, power ups and leaderboards.

• GarageBand – This app is a lot of fun! Enabling you to turn your iPhone or iPad into a full band, complete with drums, keyboards and numerous other instruments, GarageBand will entertain you and your friends for hours. Whether you fancy yourself as a legendary guitarist or a soulful singer, you’ll knock a kick out of this one. There are hundreds of backing tracks, a range of amps and more great tools. When you’re happy you’ve created a future number one, you can even add to it your iTunes library.

• Zombieville USA 2 – If you played the original version, there’s no doubt you loved it and are champing at the bit at the sight of a new installment of Zombieville! Zombieville USA 2 is every bit as good as the first game, with improved graphics and gameplay making it even more awesome. You know how it works, use an array of weapons to fight hordes of zombies, unlock a load of extra content and play multiplayer over wifi or bluetooth.

• W.E.L.D.E.R – This is a MUST for word game fans. Actually, even if you don’t know it yet, you will be a word game fan once you’ve played W.E.L.D.E.R! Create, or weld, words inside the machine, using high scoring bonus tiles to boost your scores. The game automatically completes the word once you’ve spelled it out and you can even transfer a game in progress from your iPhone to your iPad using iCloud! Can you spell your way to all 47 achievements?

• Status Shuffle for Facebook – You’ve probably seen your Facebook friends posting witty statuses with “Status Shuffle” written underneath them. This app lets you join in, directly from your iPhone. Just pick your topic, select a status and away you go.

• Diptic – This is a handy app which lets you combine photos from your phone, Facebook and Flickr accounts. Create an awesome collage and then share it with your friends and family. There are 19 layouts to choose from, brightness, contrast and colour controls and much more to help you create a masterpiece. The finished images can be sent to a range of apps including Dropbox, Evernote, Instagram, Facebook and Flickr.

Facebook Messenger has been designed specifically for mobile use, so you won’t get any missing notifications or messages being delivered to your computer instead. You can start conversations with any online friend (the list handily shows you who else is mobile too), share photos and even have group conversations. If a particular friend doesn’t have the app installed yet, you can have a conversation using text messages instead.

What makes Facebook Messenger a really handy app is the fact that it syncs with your main Facebook account in real time. This means that you can access your chats on either the app or your computer, depending on where you are when you want to resume the chat or look back to see what was said. Other useful features include adding your location to your chat messages, sending photos and customizing notifications and sounds. Well worth downloading.

When you first log in to Order & Chaos Online, you’re given a choice of 4 races – Elves and Humans on the Order side and Orcs and Undead for Chaos. Will you choose to fight for good or will you go to the Dark Side? As you would expect, your character is fully customizable, with various gender, class ,talent and appearance options available. Then there’s the important task of choosing a suitably epic name. You can have up to four different characters active on one account.

With over 1000 skills to learn, two thousand items to discover and 500 quests to complete, Order & Chaos Online has plenty of content for you to get your teeth into. It’ll probably take a short while for you to get to grips with the game and then you can begin to make friends (and enemies!) and join a guild to get the most from the game and its social side. Another awesome offering from Gameloft!

This physics-based games features amazing 3D gameplay, an array of destructive weapons and breathtaking environments. Choose to play as a Knight, Viking or Samurai and take on the 6 campaigns. Siegecraft includes everything you would expect from a great role-playing game  - the mobile aspect hasn’t led to any loss of content. We’ve mentioned there are 6 campaigns and they are different enough to engage you regardless of your RPG experience. There is one beginner campaign, 3 story-driven campaigns, 1 endless survival campaign and 1 multiplayer campaign, although this last one is only available to iPad users.

The weaponry in the game is also quite authentic and realistic – choose from crossbows, catapults, trebuchets and battering rams and unleash some old-skool kickass onto your enemies! Fighting isn’t limited to traditional ammo either – how about using your catapult to launch a cow? We’ve been really impressed with Siegecraft so far; it’s pretty much the perfect mobile RPG. If you’re a fan of the genre, you don’t want to miss this one!

• Skitch – Evernote itself is fantastic so it comes as no surprise that another app from the same developers would be impressive. Skitch lets you add notes, sketches and doodles to your photos. Scribble a caption, use an arrow to highlight part of the image…do whatever you like really. Finished images can be shared via Evernote and other applications.

• Contract Killer: Zombies – You’re playing as a man who’s fought against plenty of enemies before, but now needs to face the apocalypse head on and annihilate the undead. Defeat the zombies, collect supplies and complete missions to save humanity. This version is pretty tame but there’s another version with plenty of gore – just search for Contract Killer: Zombies (NR)

• Google Books – Now you can buy your books along with your apps from the Android Market. There are over three million ebooks available from Google Books and, with your library stored in the cloud, there won’t be any storage issues. The reader can be customized and you can pick up where you left off, even if you’re reading on several devices.

• Pool Master Pro – This an awesome pool game! The animation is 3D and fantastically realistic and there are enough play modes to keep you busy. Play 8 or 9-ball, play alone in each of 3 modes (straight game, challenge, practise) or play multiplayer versus the computer or against another player.

• Out of Milk Shopping List – If you regularly find yourself visiting the store and coming home without the one thing you really needed, this is the app for you. Make a Pantry List of all the essentials you have in your store cupboard so you know when you’re running low, create a shopping list, scan barcodes of items you need,  see a running total on your shopping list and much more. It’s absolutely invaluable!

• Wall of Sound – This app is currently the AppStore App of the Week and for good reason. It’s a new way to enjoy music on the go, with access to over 20 million songs. View your collection as wall tiles, pinch and zoom to adjust your view, preview before you buy and share via social networking. Highly recommended!

• Facebook Messenger – Being mobile doesn’t mean you need to miss out on Facebook chats. This app lets you access full chat functionality – send messages to online friends, receive notifications, add your location or a photo to your messages and much more. You can even create group messages and access all transcripts from both Facebook and the Messenger app.

• App Deals: Daily Free Apps and Price Drops – This is a must for those who want the best free apps all of the time. The app alerts you to price drops so you can grab a bargain, as well as listing the best free apps. Using App Deals also gives you access to deals and promotions you can’t get anywhere else.

• Groupon – Get access to the hottest deals in your city with this Groupon app. With daily deals offering between 50% and 90% off restaurants, events and more as well as Getaway deals, you’re sure to find something you really want to do. You can purchase deals directly from your phone and keep track of your purchased and used Groupons.

• Find My iPhone – This app could prove absolutely invaluable, or at least worth a few hundred dollars, if you misplace your iPhone. Find my iPhone lets you use any other Apple device to find the missing one on a map and play a sound, display a message, lock your device or wipe it completely. Just make sure to enable the app in your iCloud settings!

• Shadowgun – Considered by some to be one of the best mobile games yet, Shadowgun has been optimized for use with Tegra 2 tablets. It’s 2350 and the world is run by corrupt corporations who hire mercenaries to do their dirty work. You play as the most infamous bounty hunter of all, John Slade. Your mission is to hunt down the evil genius, Dr Simon, who has created his own mutant army. You need to use your arsenal of weapons to defeat them all. Are you up to the job?

• The Cube – Whether or not you’ve seen the TV show of the same name, The Cube is a great way to challenge yourself. Including 18 of the most popular challenges from the show, the app will test just how skilful you really are. As if the challenge alone wasn’t enough, the music and effects have been designed to really ramp up the pressure!

• Lab of the Dead – This is a must for zombie fans. Experiment on the undead using weapons, food and random objects. You’ll need a Wi-Fi connection and a Gameloft account to play but you’ll be given 3 months free subscription when you first log on – plenty of time to get hooked! There are 4 races to choose from and thousands of skills and items to discover. Interacting with characters will also let you discover the 500 quests which need to be complete. Epic Win!

• UNO - The classic favourite card game, UNO, is now available for Android and is just as much fun as ever. You can choose whether to match colours or numbers and play against friends or family, or test your skills against the increasingly-difficult Tournament Mode. Online play is available 24/7 via WiFi or you can take on your friends via Bluetooth. A great reproduction of a fantastic card game.

• Worms Crazy Golf – Those insane worms are back again but, instead of simply annihilating each other, they’ve decided to hit the golf course. The game is an entertaining mix of the usual Worms violence and a tricky game of crazy golf. Navigate the challenging holes while using your arsenal of old women, moles and bats to defeat your opponent. It’s awesome!

• Where’s Waldo in Hollywood? – Hands up if you spent hours of your childhood engrossed in picture books trying to find Waldo? Yep, us too! The old favourite is back in this app and you need to find him in Hollywood. There are ten scenes set in the land of movies and stars and Waldo has hidden amongst the crowds in all of them. You can play in free-play Story Mode or compete against Odlaw in a timed challenge. Either way, just play it!

• Siegecraft – This is the number 1 iPad game in 15 countries and once you start playing, you’ll know exactly why. Siegecraft will test your physics skills as you battle against your enemy using crossbows, catapults, battering rams and whole load of other weapons and tools. Featuring 6 campaigns across 25 levels,  a story-driven campaign and a multiplayer campaign exclusively for iPad users, Siegecraft is not to be missed.

• 360 Panorama – We know you’ve probably already got a load of photo and video apps but this one is still worth checking out. 360 Panorama does exactly what it says on the tin – lets you use your iPhone camera to capture a 360 image of your surroundings. The app converts your photos to panoramas in realtime and even geotags them all so you’ll never forget where a photo was taken. With easy sharing via Facebook, Twitter or embedding, it’s amazing!

• Backbreaker 2: Vengeance – The sequel is here and it’s even better than ever. Backbreaker 2: Vengeance features all the running, jumping, tackling and trucking you would expect. Play in Tackle Alley mode to battle your way to the endzone or defeat the ball carrier in Vengeance mode. Fans of football should totally have this!

This time around the battle has been taken to the alien homeworld. The campaign spreads across 20 challenging levels, each of which requires you to use your collection of weapons and military strategy to defeat the waves of enemy lifeforms. Quite possibly the ultimate biking app for iOS, if not across all mobile platforms, Bike Baron will have you hooked from the moment you mount the bike for the first time. The app features 40 amazing tracks, over one hundred tricks for you learn and master and a Joker card secret you need to learn. If that’s not enough to keep you amazed, you can create your own custom tracks and keep racing and pulling tricks forever. iOS5 devices also feature realistic shadows in game.

One of our favorite elements of Endomondo is the community aspect. All of your sessions can be uploaded automatically to the website or to Facebook and made viewable to your friends and other app users. It can tell you pretty much anything – the nutritional value of food you’re eating, what stars are overhead right now or even help you solve a math problem or crossword. Genius!

• Bartleby’s Book of Buttons Vol 2: The Button At The Bottom of the Sea – Just like in the first volume, Bartleby is on a mission to find more buttons. • SoundHound – Ever heard a song you know you recognise but you can’t quite place it? SoundHound is the answer to your frustration. The app can name tunes played from a speaker in as little as four seconds! It can also recognise tunes from singing and humming and provide lyrics too.  View music videos, share to Facebook and Twitter and even use the geo-tagging feature.

• Scary Prank – Quite appropriate with Halloween just around the corner, Scary Prank will let you give your friends a proper fright. At first glance, it appears to be a game. It works best when the volume is turned right up but beware that your frightened friend might drop your device.

• Find my Friends – Just one of the awesome new apps available to iOS5 users, Find My Friends lets you locate your friends and family using iCloud. • Talking Tom & Ben News – Talking Tom Cat and Talking Ben have already proven themselves as a huge hit amongst app-using kids and now they’re back as a news-reading duo. You can upload personal videos to use in the app, talk to Tom and Ben to hear them repeat in turns and of course make them annoy, wrestle and generally torment each other!

• Adobe Reader – This is the perfect app for viewing and using PDFs on the go. You can open PDFs from email, view annotations and mark ups, ready Sticky Notes, search text, use bookmarks, copy and paste the contents and print wirelessly using AirPrint. It’s pretty useful!

• Scribblenauts Remix – this game by Warners Bros is perfect for those who just want to dabble in a game every now and again. You need to help Maxwell get the Starite; doing this requires you to create imaginative items and put them to use during your quest. Colossal winged car? Frost-breathing robotic hippopotamus? The only limits are those of your imagination!

• Cut The Rope:Experiments – To follow up the candy-munching adventures of Om Nom, there’s now a professor who is interested in finding out just what Om Nom actually is. Featuring the same rope-cutting gameplay, the sequel also includes 75 new levels and 3 difficulty settings. You can’t go wrong with such an engaging game.

• Talking Tom Cat 2 Free – If you have kids, you need this app. Talk to Tom and have him repeat what you say in a funny voice, hit him, rub him, feed him, scare him with a dog….the fun lasts for a long time. There is a full paid version with no ads but give the free one a try first.

• Anti-Virus Free – Seeing as Android is open, it’s a good idea to have an anti-virus running on your phone. You don’t want to lose everything to some malicious nasties! Anti-Virus Free was developed by AVG, those bastions of free PC anti-virus, so you know you can trust this app at least. It will scan your apps, files and settings for viruses and, if your phone is ever lost or stolen, you can use the app to lock and wipe it, as well as show its location on Google Maps.

• Google Translate – The name of this app gives away what it does! Google Translate lets you translate text between over fifty languages. The app features dictionary results, text-to-speech technology, voice input and more.

• Barcode Scanner – Do you remember this app featuring on the original Android ads for the G1? Just use your phone’s camera to scan a barcode to find out where to get the best price. Data Matrix and QR codes can also be used.

• Jump Out! – Physics-based iPhone games have proven to be quite popular in the past and Jump Out! is the latest addition to the list. Pick one of the four characters, use the 6 available skill items and work your way through 75 levels. It’s not easy but it is fun!

• Carve-A-Pumpkin from Parents Magazine – The best way to carve a pumpkin without risking your fingers! This app from Parents Magazine is a great way to design and create Halloween decorations without any potentially dangerous knives around your small children. There are 5 pumpkin shapes and a range of facial features to choose from, or you can design your own from scratch. It’s fun!

• iNstein College – Comprising a huge range of interesting and informative facts, iNstein College is a fun way to learn. Take classes and learn as you go, without feeling like you’re working. The app contains 180 questions covering 10 topics, including geography, zoology and history and 3 difficulty levels so it’s suitable for kids and adults alike. There’s also a multiplayer mode so you can take your friends on via Bluetooth.

• Minecraft: Pocket Edition – Minecraft is a popular MMORPG which involves building your surroundings using blocks, like a kind of high-tech Lego. While doing so you can hang out with your friends, meet new people and generally have a lot of fun. Multiplayer worlds can be saved to your phone for future access too.

• SwiftKey X Keyboard – This is a fantastic AI tablet keyboard, which learns from your profiles on networks such as Facebook, GMail and Twitter to bring you the ultimate prediction and personalization. The only disappointment is that you can’t play Blitz mode on Android.

• Block Breaker 3 Unlimited – This game follows the old favourite style of using a paddle to keep a ball up and breaking blocks for as long as possible. This version is full of power-ups, bonuses and traps to keep you on your toes as you try to achieve the highest score on the leaderboard. Each of the seven stages ends in an intense boss battle and the 8 game modes and level generator will keep you interested for a long time yet.

• Flick Golf! – A golf game with a difference, Flick Golf! has no clubs and no rules. All you need to do is flick, curve and spin your ball into each of the holes. Can you score the perfect hole-in-one? To make it a bit more difficult although the normal rules of golf have gone, the hazards, bunkers and wind remain! Trickier than you might think and highly addictive – just what we love in a game.

• Angry Birds Seasons – Those Angry Birds seem to be a permanent fixture in the top app charts. This version is based around seasons and holidays and features chapters such as Moon Festival, Easter, St Patrick’s Day, Halloween and Christmas. The latest addition is Moon Festival, which sees the bird chase the pigs through 30 levels of pagodas, rabbits and lanterns. Happy annihilation!

• 9mm – Playing as John “Loose” Kannon, this game requires you to take charge of a team of hardened cops, bending the law to clean up the streets. Problem is, they’ve killed a drug dealer’s brother and stolen millions from him. Now the team are the targets for a revenge act. Build up an impressive arsenal and brave gunfights to reign victorious. Lots of locations, lots of crime, lots of fun!

• Camera+ – This app is fun for anyone, no matter how good your photography skills are. Set exposure while focusing, use the iPhone 4 light as a continuous fill and use the grid and stabilizer to get great shots every time. After you’ve snapped the image, use the range of effects to create the perfect atmosphere. It sounds awesome already and we haven’t even mentioned the scenes, zoom, flash, editing or borders!

• My Secret Folder – Have you got personal stuff on your iPhone that you don’t want nosey parkers to see? My Secret Folder lets you create a private folder for those photos, emails, notes or whatever else you want to hide. It looks like a normal app icon and will display the number of access attempts for you to see. A good way to password protect your phone’s content.

• Stupidness 3 PRO – Are you stupid? Do you want to find out? Try out this app, it’s a great test. Featuring over 100 questions with answers that required thinking outside the box, you’ll find yourself well and truly challenged when you try to beat it. It will give you the answers afterwards and even let you post your IQ on Facebook. If you’re not too ashamed to share it, that is!

Swampy lives under a city with the other alligators but has a dream to escape the sewers and live a life of cleanliness amongst the humans on the surface. However, the other alligators aren’t so keen on this idea and are doing their best to stop him. They’re going about this in the way they know best – sabotaging his water supply. What you need to do is guide water to Swampy’s bathtub so he can live the life he dreams of.

• Google Maps – Google’s mapping application took some flak when it was announced due to the photographs on Street View, but these photos are exactly what makes it so great. Find an address or place of interest and zoom right in to see a photo of the surrounding areas. You can even get directions for travelling there on foot, by car or by public transport. Add its sat-nav capabilities and you’ve got yourself a truly awesome app.

• Facebook for Android – A great app that does exactly what it says on the tin; lets you access your Facebook account from your Android device. Read updates, comment, like, view photos, chat with friends, check in when you’re out and about…you know what it can do!

• Skype - Again, you surely know what this one’s all about. Make free Skype calls from your Android phone, no matter where you are, as long as you have a web connection. With free Skype to Skype calling and cheap Skype to phone and SMS messaging over a 3G or WiFi connection, it’s a pretty handy app.

• YouTube – This official YouTube app lets you view and interact with YouTube videos and posts on the move. You can read comments while a video is playing, post your own in response, create a personalized homepage video feed and rotate your phone to view in fullscreen. Another nifty one!

• Angry Birds – If you’ve ever read our blog before you’ll be familiar with these cute pig-destroyers. The greedy pigs have stolen from the birds and they need you to launch them from cannons and activate their special abilities to destroy the pigs and their hideouts. Easy to play, difficult to master. Try it and see how long it takes to get 3 stars on all levels.

• 777 Poker – More card games, but you won’t see us complaining! 777 Poker is known as one of the best options for iOS, offering a range of different games and stakes. • Cut The Rope – Om Nom is a little monster, he’s very hungry and he wants candy. You need to cut the ropes to let the candy drop to feed him. Sounds easy but you need to collect stars and avoid obstacles too. The game has reached #1 around the world so its a good bet when you’re looking for something new.

• Worms – Surely everyone knows about Worms? An old favourite, the game involves using your army of worms to destroy the other army of worms before they get you. Tools, weapons and awesome specials like the Concrete Donkey are available for you to use.  Let the battle commence!

• Paper Camera – This is a great photo editing app. The difference is you can view your photo through the special lens and see what it will look like before you snap. Cartoon, sketch, comic book and more – a whole host of unique photos are at your fingertips.

The first US 3D smartphone is on it’s way, in the guise of the LG Thrill 4G 3D. Recently announced by AT&T and due to take it’s place in their stores shortly, this rebranded LG Optimus 3D looks to be absolutely fantastic. Featuring cutting edge 3D technology, the screen displays in 3D without the need for seperate glasses. Imagine how amazing it will be to view 3D images on the go! The Thrill has certainly been given an appropriate name.

The contents encased behind the wondrous display will also not disappoint. Although aimed at different markets, the coincidental release dates could leave customers with a big dilemma – which to queue for and which to put on the back burner for a while? The iPad 2 sold between 500,000 and 1 million units on it’s US launch and Nintendo have reported approximately 140,000 preorders already in place for their latest portable gaming machine. Families in particular may find their loyalties divided as Mum and Dad want to get their mitts on the iPad 2 but Junior really wants an 3DS! It would certainly bamboozle us for a while at least.

Aside from being launched on the same day, the two devices aren’t really comparable. The iPad 2 is designed for media, business and entertainment on the go, whereas the 3DS is primarily for gaming and appeals mostly to a younger audience. However, the number of preorders alone has already made this the biggest Nintendo launch ever and who knows how many more units will shift when the shops open tomorrow morning. Nintendo have announced that they are expecting sales figures to top 200,000, which is double the amount of Wiis sold on launch day.

Well, for Angry Birds fans, the first benefit is glaringly obvious – Angry Birds Rio is exclusively available on the Amazon AppStore. That’s right – it cannot be downloaded via Google’s Android Market. This wouldn’t cause too much of a problem apart from the fact that Amazon have only launched their app store in the United States and have confirmed they have no plans to expand internationally. Bad news for non-US Angry Birders. Don’t worry too much though, Rovio have hinted at the exclusivity being for a limited time only so you may still manage to get your hands on it.

Back to the Amazon AppStore and how to access it. When the Appstore is searched on Amazon.com for the first time, the user will be prompted to enter their email address or phone number and instructions on how to install it will be sent. Installation is pretty much like any other app (with a few added steps) and only takes a matter of seconds. Launching the Amazon Appstore app will give you a view of what apps are available and how much it costs to buy them. Downloading apps works pretty much the same as with the Android Market, just with a slightly different user interface.

One big advantage of using the Amazon Appstore is the ability to try before you buy. Users can use a simulated Android phone to try out an app before they purchase or download it. An end to the days of wasting money and time downloading an app that doesn’t do what you needed it to! Also, the Amazon Appstore currently features a Free App of The Day, where a paid app is made free for one day only. This alone makes it worth a look for US Android users!

• Lane Splitter – Playing as a reckless biker, your task is to weave amongst the traffic and avoid drivers and vehicle blind spots to survive your journey. As you progress, the bike will get faster and your reactions will be put to the test. The game is great fun, particularly for fans of old school, retro arcade games and works well whether you have an older iPhone or a brand new iPad 2. Tilt your phone to steer, avoid the cars and walls and share your high scores with your Facebook friends.

• Doodle Jump: HOP the Movie – Love the original Doodle Jump? Don’t miss out on this fun sequel. • Guerilla Bob – There’s nothing quite like a good game when you need to be cheered up a bit and this one won’t disappoint. Already available for iPhone and previously an iPad Game of The Week, this shooter offers great graphics, amazing weapons and even better gameplay. Collect money from your enemies and use it to upgrade your arsenal of machine guns, bombs, molotov cocktails, grenade launchers and more, unlock secret areas and power ups in story mode and take on the bosses at the end of each level. Play in Story, Arcade or Classic mode and make your way to the top of the leaderboards.

• Business Calendar – Perfect for those who need an in-depth and multi-functional calendar app. Scroll through zoomable entries for between 1 and 14 days, choose from graphical or text content and use the search feature to quickly locate the event you’re interested in. Recurring events can be set up with no hassle, multiple days of interest can be viewed at once and widgets can be added to your Android homescreen. All of this and it also synchronizes with your Google calendar. A fantastic way to keep on top of a busy diary!

• Hungry MonstR –  Monsters and ice cream, that classic combination! Play as an ice cream seller working hard in Monster Land and defend your cart from the waves of incoming monsters. The game can be played in Frenzy Mode where three waves have to be kept at bay for three minutes or in Endless Rainbow mode where your skills are truly put to the test. Great graphics, engaging gameplay and three levels of difficulty make this  a winner in our book.

• Street Fighter IV – We remember playing Street Fighter on a Sega Master System quite a while ago and now we can play it on our iPhone – result! Instantly familiar to Street Fighter fans, the game includes all the favorite characters, moves and specials. if you feel the need to brush up your skills, pop into the dojo and take the five lessons, otherwise choose from the 14 characters and 11 environments and get fighting! Four levels of difficulty, Bluetooth multiplayer mode, customizable controls…..what are you waiting for? The price has also been dropped with proceeds going to Japan until the 22nd March, so there’s another fantastic reason to download this app.

• Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? – I do! This quiz game has (obviously enough) been based on the tv gameshow of the same name and works pretty much the same. Answer 15 multiple choice questions to work your way up the board and become the champion. The only difference is that you won’t actually win the million. It’s fun anyway, honest! The database includes over a thousand brand new questions and players have access to the usual Phone A Friend, 50/50 and Ask The Audience assistance options. Want a bit of an extra challenge? Play against the clock in timed mode. iPad owners can also experience the game in high definition by choosing the HD version of the app.

• Sonic The Hedgehog –  Another of our childhood favorites has arrived onto the AppStore. We were slightly afraid to download this app in case we ended up playing for as long as we did back then, but we managed to restrain ourselves enough to write about it. You know how it works, run through loops, collect gold rings and defeat Dr Eggman. Play all 7 zones, including the old classic Green Hill and Labyrinth zones and work your way towards collecting all of the Chaos Emeralds. Take our word for this one – it’s amazing!

Regardless of who you want to appeal to, a mobile website is incredibly important to your business. Say, for example, someone does a search for your industry and area. • Pages – Powerful word processing has been brought to the iPad 2 with this handy app. Featuring a range of templates and formatting tools, Pages gives you everything you need to create and edit word processing documents on the move. Set indents, add images, adjust font and text color and much, much more. Documents can also be imported from Pages or Word via MobileMe or WebDAV. Completed documents can easily be send in Pages, Word or PDF format via email or directly to a printer.

Samsung haven’t always been a huge player in the mobile phone market but their Galaxy range has certainly gone down a storm. The Galaxy S 4G has been no different so far – it’s 4 inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display, 1GHz processor, 5 megapixel camera and Android 2.2 operating system are definitely enough to make it appeal to smartphone fans. The front facing camera is a welcome addition for those wishing to use video calling and related applications. Built in Skype application, Qik, will have you started on video conferencing in a jiffy.

The inclusion of a proximity sensor was a good move by Samsung and we like the dedicated, touch sensitive areas for home, search, back and menu. The inclusion of Inception is a plus for us too! Overall, it’s definitely a good phone with a range of great features. If you’re due an upgrade and like the look of it, there’s no reason for us to say not to, but we can’t help feeling that it might be worth hanging off for a while to see what else comes onto the market.
