In the upcoming weeks, we'll be breaking down the individual episodes of the M.A.S.K. cartoon on our new podcast called MASKast! We'll examine the overall plot and characters/vehicles that are featured in each episode. When available, we'll also post the actual cartoon to give everyone an opportunity to watch and vote in our weekly rating poll. You'll also want to post your comments as we'll feature your feedback and comments in each MASKast. Nash Gorey Poll Results

M.A.S.K. Movie fans, thanks so much for voting in our January poll!! We received 111 total votes which is the most we've EVER received for our actor poll! It was a close race for your choice to play V.E.N.O.M.'s tech guru Nash Gorey in a M.A.S.K. Movie, but the winner with 40% of the total vote is.....

Johnny Galecki!

The Big Bang Theory actor received 45 total votes, narrowly defeating runner up Alan Cumming with 39 total votes (35%). Matthew Gubler received 15 votes (13%) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt received 8 votes (7%). 4 votes were cast for none of our suggested actors.

Johnny Galecki got his first acting roles on major films when he was 12 years old. His first well known part would be as Russ Griswold in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. He would get a few more parts in TV movies, but also in the TV sitcoms American Dreamer and Billy, a spin-off of the popular show Head of the Class. His first major recurring role was on Rosanne as David Healy. He would appear in 92 epsiodes during the show's nine year run. After the show ended, Galecki began appearing on the big screen with small roles in films like Suicide Kings, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Bounce, and Vanilla Sky. More guest appearances on TV shows would lead him to a co-starring role in the show The Big Bang Theory. For five season Galecki has appeared on the show as Leornard Hofstadter. He's also had supporting roles in the films Hancock and In Time.

He's a great choice to play Nash Gorey!! We've are going to shift gears a bit with our polls. The only character left in our movie that has not had an actor poll is Scott Trakker. Bruno Shepard Poll Results

The votes are in!! You're overwhelming choice to play V.E.N.O.M.'s Bruno "Mad Dog" Shepard in a live action M.A.S.K. movie is ...

...Vinnie Jones!!

Vinnie received 63% of the overall vote (24). Kevin Durand of Lost came in 2nd place with 18% of the vote (7), while Bill Goldberg was a close 3rd with 15% of the vote (6). Ty Olsson received one vote. No votes were cast for None of the Above, because I forgot to add it as an option!! Sorry!! We only received 38 total votes which is a bit disappointing, considering we had been get close to 100 each month. Hopefully, we can get more for our January poll.

Jones is a formidable tough guy actor that could really bring Bruno Shepard to life. Known for films like Snatch, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Gone in Sixty Seconds, and X-men the Last Stand, Jones would be a great addition to our cast and provide the muscle for V.E.N.O.M. in our script.

Cliff Dagger Poll Results

Thanks to those of you who voted in our November actor poll. The results were VERY close but with 34 votes and 48% of the overall vote, your choice to play V.E.N.O.M.'s Cliff Dagger is Michael Chiklis!

Steve Austin was a close second with 31 total votes and 44% overall. Rob Corddry received 4 votes (5%) and one vote was cast for none of our three choices.

Chiklis is a veteran actor that got his start with a guest appearance on Miami Vice in 1989. Thereafter, he also has guest roles on Murphy Brown, L.A. Law, and even Seinfeld. His first real breakthrough into television was as Tony Scali on the TV series Commish from 1991-1996. He continued to make his guest appearance rounds on TV until 2002 when he stepped out of from behind his commissioner's desk and headed to the streets as rugged cop Vic Mackey in the hit show The Shield. Chiklis received an Emmy award and a Golden Globe as Best Lead Actor in a Television Drama. His success has now pushed him into feature films, such as The Fantasic 4 and Eagle Eye and can now be seen on the televsion series No Ordinary Family.

Only a few more character polls remain. Our December poll will be for Bruno "Mad Dog" Shepard followed by Nash Gorey. We've had a few ask if we will post a poll for Scott Trakker, so we will swing back to M.A.S.K. side in February to complete!! Thanks for your participation as always!!

Sly Rax Poll Results

Another M.A.S.K. Movie actor poll has come to a close. This was the 9th poll we've conducted this year and we aren't finished yet!! Our Sly Rax poll during the month of October was a runaway!! With 66% of the vote, M.A.S.K. fans chose Bruce Campbell!!

78 total votes were cast, with 52 of those going to Campbell. Second place was Josh Holloway with 14 votes (17%). Josh Brolin received 7 votes (8%) and Kevin Dillon received 3 votes (3%). There were also 2 votes cast for "None of the Above." Here were the videos of the actors that we linked to: Josh Brolin in American Gangster and No Country For Old Men. Spectrum Script Vision: Scene Location Answers

Hooo weeee! Howdy fellow M.A.S.K. fans! It's that time once again to give you an inside look into the M.A.S.K. the Movie script. This time, Jason and I thought we'd have some puzzling fun for you. See if you can fill in the blanks (here on Blogger or via FB) for 5 of the different locations we are using in our movie script.

Vanessa Warfield Poll Results

Voting in our September actor poll has now closed. It was a tight race the whole month! Your choice to play V.E.N.O.M.'s Vanessa Warfield with 43% of the vote is Melinda Clarke!

This month's voting was even closer than our Miles Mayhem poll from August. Melinda received 36 total votes. She won just 4% ahead of Milla Jovovich who received 33 total votes (39% overall.) Third placed was tied with 5 votes a piece for Rhona Mitra & Charlize Theron, a distant 6% of the total vote for each. 4 votes were cast for None of the Above. To those four voters, feel free to post your choice here or on Facebook or Twitter.

Here are the two clips of Melinda that we posted during the poll that we felt best suited the Vanessa Warfield character in our script: Spawn & CSI. Melinda's characters in these plus in other shows like Nikita and the OC always seem to have an edge to them that we think fits Vanessa well.

Vanessa's character, in our script, is alot like in the cartoon, but also with an action side. She can pilot Switchblade and Manta, puts some boot to head to fellas in her way, and of course, cracks a mean whip with her mask.

We'll be adding Melinda to our M.A.S.K. Movie Pitch page on the blog. You can also view the other actor choices from previous polls there as well. Continuing with V.E.N.O.M. characters, October's poll will feature Sly Rax! Be looking for your opportunity to vote very soon!

On September 30, 1985, the first episode of M.A.S.K. aired on the USA cable network in the United States.

The first season of M.A.S.K. lasted 13 weeks through December 27, 1985, broadcasting 5 new episodes per week. Afterward, those episodes would run in syndication through Sept 6, 1986, when M.A.S.K. returned with it's first new episode for Season 2. Only 10 new episodes aired in the fall of 1986, about 1 per week, which ended with "Cliff Hanger" on Nov 26, 1986. Although a new toy line and even video games were released in 1987, no new cartoons were produced but M.A.S.K. continued to run in syndication.

M.A.S.C. - The Correct and Perfect Cartoon

WB and I have read (and received) some pretty good criticism since we started this blog in the beginning of 2011. We'll be the first guys to tell you that M.A.S.K. was not the most perfect of cartoons. It had its flaws like most every show does. But with the success it did have in the toy market and on television, we feel it warrants a comeback as a movie.

The critical comments are mainly about the M.A.S.K. cartoon in general, but also some about our efforts. We don't mind the criticism at all and are thankful for those people that wear their opinions on their sleeves. We would just like to take a moment to respond to some things we have heard and give you our point of view, as die-hard fans of M.A.S.K. for the past 25 years.

Comment #1 - "Kommand doesn't start with a K!"

Okay, anyone in this world that truly believes that the creators of M.A.S.K. mistakenly misspelled "command" needs to get over it and take their OCD medication. Just stop for a second and try to come up with a "K" word for team or group....see! Maybe one of the creators was part German or maybe the "mask" word association was so important to the concept of the show that they decided to use a little poetic license for the title. I think the vast majority of the people that ever watched the show "gets it."

Comment #2 - "The cartoon series wasn't that popular. It only really lasted for "1" season, so why does it deserve a movie?"

Here are the facts. It's true that M.A.S.K. only technically had two seasons. The first season ran for 65 episodes from Sept-Dec 1985. The second season only lasted 10 episodes in the fall of 1986. So how does 75 total episodes compare to the other two cartoons that we often compare M.A.S.K. to, G1 Transformers and G.I. Joe? G.I. Joe also endured only two seasons, of which the first was broken up into many smaller mini-series. The original G.I. Joe cartoon aired a total of 95 episodes in 1985-86 and one feature film in 1987. The G1 Transformers cartoon lasted four seasons from 1984-87, also with a feature film in 1986. G1 Transformers aired 98 total episodes. With those facts being on the table that M.A.S.K. aired just 20 & 23 total episodes less than G.I. Joe and Transformers respectively, I don't think you can say "M.A.S.K. wasn't that popular." A couple things to consider is G.I. Joe had a history of the brand behind it with its toy line beginning in the mid 1960s. Also, M.A.S.K. originally aired on the USA cable network which was much less viewed in that era than the first run syndication of GI Joe and Transformers on regular network channels. You can't deny the popularity of both G1 Transformers and GI Joe: R.A.H., but we think it's unfair to just compare M.A.S.K.'s worthiness for a movie without looking at all the facts.

Comment #3 - "The M.A.S.K. cartoon series was one big toy commercial"

Weren't they all in the 80s? C'mon people! M.A.S.K. released four series of toys from 1985-87, about 50 total vehicles and figure packs. G1 Transformers and G.I. Joe: R.A.H. both easily triple that total number of toys during the same time period. This criticism of the "toy commercial cartoon" should be used on a broader scope and not just on M.A.S.K. If you think the toy retailers and merchandise companies are evil than that's fine. Myself, as a parent, I can see why some people think these types of companies are only out to influence kids to make a long list for Santa. But on the other hand, those childhood fantasies that we played out with our toys are worth something, aren't they? Shouldn't we give our kids some lasting memories of their childhood? For those that followed the show, M.A.S.K. gave us those impacting memories during play time.

Comment #4 - "The M.A.S.K. Movie site sucks and is unprofessional."

Well, what can we say but that the site is supposed to be unprofessional! Yes, it might also suck to some of you tech savvy people. WB and Jason G are about the two most ordinary average guys on the planet. We won't ever apologize for our blog site because it is just that, a blog about our journey from script to (hopefully one day) a major motion picture. Someday there will also (hopefully) be a professional site dedicated just to M.A.S.K. the movie with trailers, wallpaper, links to buy movie tickets, and all the good stuff that movie goers love. But for now, you are stuck with us and our blogging capabilities and social media skills!

So, what if M.A.S.K. had been correctly named? What if it had lasted 5 years and had aired 150 episodes? What if it had been more popular than Transformers and GI Joe? Well, it probably would have been perfect...perfect for a animated feature film, spinoffs and more toy-lines and probably a live action feature film that would have been produced 10 years ago. So had M.A.S.K. been perfect, there wouldn't have been a need for WB and Jason G to write a script and we'd probably be talking about our Voltron script right now!

Hopefully, for those of you who are behind us, this post gives you a little more in depth into our perspective and drive to make this happen! For those of you who have been critical, we hope you are a little more persuaded to give M.A.S.K. another chance. If not, keep the criticisms coming and we will keep on trying to show you why we are right!

We know there are thousands of fans just like you in this world that want a M.A.S.K. comeback. We are very determined to spread the word about our efforts to get our script on the big screen, even if it's just to show the film industry how many M.A.S.K. fans are standing with us. By growing our presence on Facebook, Twitter, and this blog, we will definitely show Hollywood that we are serious! Therefore, in order to reach out to the M.A.S.K. fans that haven't heard about our efforts yet, we are announcing a giveaway promotion!

Well, the long awaited release of the M.A.S.K.: The Complete Series DVD collection has come and gone. We've definitely seen some heightened awareness during the past few weeks. Our blog views, Twitter followers, and Facebook likes have increased every month since we started promoting our movie script in early 2011. We are grateful to those of you fans who have joined us in recent weeks. Looking forward to your feedback as we keep pressing on toward our goal of getting M.A.S.K. back in theaters and on televisions across the world.

Speaking of which, we are continuing to pursue film industry people in hopes our script will get in the right hands. Miles Mayhem Poll Results

Our August actor poll has concluded, M.A.S.K. movie fans! Your choice to play the leader of V.E.N.O.M., Miles Mayhem, is Richard Riehle!

Thank you for contributing to poll. This was the closest margin of victory since we began doing these monthly polls back in February. Richard Riehle received 31 of the 76 total votes cast (just 40% overall.) Brain Cox was second in voting with 23 votes and 30% overall. Tom Selleck received 12 votes, Alfred Molina received 8 votes and Danny Huston received 1 vote. There was also one vote cast for "None of the Above." A couple other note worthy items about this poll. 40% of the vote was the lowest winning percentage of any of our polls (Steve Zahn won our Dusty Hayes poll with 46%.) The 76 votes cast was the 2nd highest total, only to our Bruce Sato poll back in May which received 83.

Richard Riehle has played a variety of characters in film and TV throughout his 34 years career, mostly in a supporting role. His roles have included Santa Claus in at least 3 different films, law enforcement officers in The Fugitive and Executive Decision, and also probably his most well known role of Tom Smykowski in Office Space. Riehle definitely fits the profile and stature of the Miles Mayhem in the M.A.S.K. cartoon.

WB and I are intrigued at the results of the poll. Seems to be that M.A.S.K. movie fans were a little indecisive about who to choose as the leader of V.E.N.O.M. We hope to expand on this a little more in an upcoming post to the blog. Call it, a slight curve ball of sorts, that used when we wrote our movie script. So stayed tuned for that and also our new poll for Vanessa Warfield in September!

M.A.S.K. REVEALED: SCRIPT EXCERPT #3

M.A.S.K. fans! Today were are pleased you a third look into our live-action script.

If you will remember, our first script excerpt (we posted way back in March) revealed a scene with Matt Trakker and Alex Sector at Trakker Oil, as they searched for a secret location to setup headquarters. The second script excerpt in May, revealed a scene with Gloria Baker and Alex at a rock concert. Their mission was to convince Brad Turner to put his guitar down for awhile and rejoin the team.

Keeping with our August actor poll, our third excerpt reveals a scene with the V.E.N.O.M. team.

It takes place at their headquarters, a rundown auto salvage yard. Having Switchblade as his only asset, Miles is in desperate need of some other vehicles to execute his master plan. With Vanessa Warfield and Nash Gorey obtaining some classified documents, Miles has recruited Sly Raxx, Cliff Dagger, and Bruno "Mad Dog" Sheppard to build the vehicles.

As you read, you will find some hints about other scenes in the movie that have taken place. This is also one of the few scenes with all 6 V.E.N.O.M. characters together. Enjoy!

FADE UP:

EXT. BLAKE’S AUTO SALVAGE – DAY – Same Day

SUPER: BLAKE’S AUTO SALVAGE

Blake’s Auto Salvage is located on an old airstrip. There are
many dirt roads and fields lined with junk cars for miles.
About a mile from the main office is a neglected airfield.
There are a few old hangars still standing.

INT. HANGAR

The hangar office is set up with office furniture made from
automotive parts (car hood as a table, car seats as office
chairs or benches, etc). Miles is sitting behind a desk,
looking over some files and blue prints. Bruno “Mad Dog”
Sheppard, Sly Raxx, and Cliff Dagger walk in. They all go to
the makeshift kitchen area and pour themselves some coffee.

RAXX
Well Mr. Miles, another day of coffee, pop
tarts, and our lovely new home.

DAGGER
(Eating a pop tart)
Yeah! Where’s this “big score” you’ve been
gloating about?

Miles continues to look over the files.

MILES
Need I remind you that I’m the one who
sprung you from that miserable prison?
(Looking up at the men)
So, you idiots better keep your mouths shut!
Have you found me any usable vehicles?

The three men make their way towards the large conference table.
BRUNO
Yeah, we’ve salvaged some vehicles that you
requested. I’ve got them all running pretty
well, too.

RAXX
But what are we going to use them for? We
can’t use these jalopies to hit a bank.
We’ll stick out like a sore thumb!
(Mocking Miles)
Need I remind you that we’re fugitives and
the cops are looking for us.

The door slams before Miles can respond. Vanessa and Nash walk
in. Nash throws a large box of donuts on the table. Vanessa
also sets a few plastic bags of groceries down on the table.
All three men rush to grab a donut and sit back at the table.

RAXXAh! The breakfast of champions.

VANESSA
Are those two vehicles and the bike running
yet?

DAGGER
(Eating a donut)
We were just talkin’ about that.

RAXX
They’re all running, Donut Queen.
(Sarcastically)
But I do need to take the bike for a test
ride, wanna be my copilot?

Vanessa scoffs.

NASH
I wouldn’t bother her if I were you.
(Looks at Miles)
Miles, do you think these guys will be able
to handle this?

BRUNODamn right, we can! Mayhem, I think it’s
time you, and stick boy here, filled us all
in on what your planning.

Bruno, Raxx, and Dagger pause from eating and look over at
Miles. Raxx speaks up before Miles can answer.

RAXX
I agree. We’re supposed to be partners in
this, Mayhem, but you are the one that seems
to be barking all the orders.

DAGGER
Yeah! You owe me, and my cousin Blake, for
using these facilities here. We haven’t
seen any compensation since that botched
attempt to get us some cash in Vegas.

Miles slaps down the blueprint papers and stands up.

MILES
Listen, you ungrateful bastards! There’s a
bigger plan here than any of you can
comprehend.

Miles picks up the blueprints and walks over to the conference
table.

MILES
Now, from these blueprints that were
recovered, we can develop the same
technology that my old comrade has been using.
And now with Trakker out of the way, we’ll
be able to drive up to any bank, anywhere,
in the middle of the day, and they won’t
have a clue of the firepower we have in
these vehicles.

M.A.S.K. DVD DAY - 8/9/2011

M.A.S.K. fans,
We've been counting down for months to the new DVD release of the M.A.S.K. cartoon series. Our wait is finally over. Now it's time to spread the word!

M.A.S.K. the complete series is now available! This 12 disc collection was produced specifically for North America in the Region 1 DVD format by Shout!Factory. The boxed set includes all the original episodes (None the racing series) plus two new bonus featurettes:

Unmasking M.A.S.K., a retrospective interview with show writers
Saturday Morning Krusaders, an entertaining look back with loyal fans. (Clip Below)

I've heard many M.A.S.K. fans have asked "why is this such a big deal? I already own a copy." Yes, there were previous releases in the UK and other countries, with some even converted (perhaps bootlegged) to the Region 1 format. But this new release by Shout!Factory is the first legitimate collection to be offered to the USA & Canada and breathes new life into the franchise. This realease is obviously also very important to us and our cause of bringing M.A.S.K. back as a live action movie! We hope the new DVD boxed set will not just peak the interest of past and present fans, but also tv & film producers to reboot this classic show in some form or another.

We'd like to take a minute to thank those who have contributed by promoting M.A.S.K.'s release. Our many thanks to Brian Truitt for publishing a great article on USAToday.Com about the DVD release. (Brian even contacted us for our perspective, but unfortunately were unable to get our thoughts to him before the article deadline.) Brad Turner Poll Results

Our July poll is officially over. Thank you M.A.S.K. movie fans for voting! With 54% of the vote, you chose James Marsden as your favorite to play Brad Turner in M.A.S.K. the movie!

Marsden received 39 votes of the total 72 votes. Garrett Hedlund received 19 votes as the runner-up and Ian Somerhalder & Orlando Bloom both received 7 votes each. No votes were cast for none of the above, which was a first since we started these actor polls this year!

Marsden is best know for his role as Cyclops in the X-men film trilogy. He has also had major roles in films such as Superman Returns, The Box, The Notebook, and 27 Dresses. His career began with supporting roles in TV shows like Ally McBeal, The Nanny, and the short lived series Second Noah in 1996-97. Other supporting roles in films include Hairspray and Enchanted for which also had singing parts.

Our next poll for the month of August will begin soon. We have completed polls for all the major M.A.S.K. agents in our movie! Time for the bad guys! Be looking for our first V.E.N.O.M. poll very soon!!

Spectrum Script Vision: Vehicles

M.A.S.K. fans, today we bring you the first installment of Spectrum Script Vision, an in-depth view into the origins of our M.A.S.K. movie script. We've told you a little bit about the vehicles used in our script. Let's go a little deeper into our vision. Keep in mind, the goal of this post is to advise the fans, both old and new, of our M.A.S.K. vehicles. Many of the original M.A.S.K. TV show fans are concerned that ours will be like Transformers where the vehicles aren't what the original Transformers were. Well, we were very concerned about that and let us first address that concern.

We will not get too detailed on some vehicles as we want to keep a few surprises for you, the fan. However, we can tell you that all of the vehicles will nearly remain with the original story as possible. What do I mean by nearly? Well, we have done our best to preserve both the name and the vehicle, yet we have updated a few vehicles simply because our story does take place in the present time and not in the 80's. This does not mean, however, that we've pulled a "Michael Bay" and made Thunderhawk a Smart car or Rhino a Hummer. Rather, Thunderhawk remains as a mid-80's Camero, Gator is still a Jeep, Condor is a modern speed/sport bike, and Rhino is a modern long-nose truck. For VENOM, we mostly left them alone. All of their vehicles, except Switchblade, have been left in their 80's state. Switchblade is very much like the cartoon but because our story is starting with the beginnings of MASK, we modified it a bit. It's not extremely dramatic.

Here's what we want to convey to you all, especially the original MASK fans. Jason and I are dedicated to doing our absolute best to work with "Hollywood" to preserve our script as best as possible. Why our script? Like you, we want our vehicles and the storyline to remain as close to the cartoon as possible. We want the vehicles to be what they were. There will be modern versions of some of them, we wrote a few of those into the script and anticipate a few other updates. Nonetheless, we will fight to not butcher it like Transformers was.

M.A.S.K. movie fans! Thanks for your participation in our June actor poll. We received a total of 69 votes and have a winner with 46% of the vote! Your choice to play Dusty Hayes among our 4 suggested actors is Steve Zahn!

Steve received 32 of the 69 total votes. Johnny Knoxville was next with 16 votes, Josh Holloway received 9 votes, and Owen Wilson received 6 votes. There were also 6 votes for none of our suggested actors.

Steve has been acting for over 20 years now. His career includes appearances on multiple TV shows, mini-series, feature films, and even theatre. His TV career has included roles on Friends, Monk, and his latest show Treme on HBO. TV Mini-Series appearances include Liberty! The American Revolution, From the Earth to the Moon, and Comanche Moon. Steve's first notable movie role was in 1994's Reality Bites. More supporting roles in his early career include Crimson Tide, Suburbia, Out of Sight, and You've Got Mail. More recent films include Management, Rescue Dawn, Sahara, and Daddy Day Care. He has also used his voice talent in animated films and shows including Stuart Little and Phineas and Herb. In my opinion, Steve has shown he has great comic talent, but can also be a serious on-screen actor. Should he get the role of Dusty Hayes someday, I think he would be a great fit!

Our new July poll will be posted soon. This month's poll will feature your actor suggestions to play rockstar and motorcycle driver Brad Turner in our M.A.S.K. movie! This will also be our last M.A.S.K. agent. In August, we will begin polls for agents in the Vicious Evil Network of Mayhem!
