Ky Anonymous/Deric Lostutter Under Public Fire

6 months ago, thousands of people rallied behind the man known only (then) as KY Anonymous and #knightsec as he rallied the world behind a 16 year old rape victim in Steubenville, Ohio. The tactics then were aggressive weaponizing the media, and posting countless tweets regarding some individuals involved and quite a few not involved in the Steubenville rape case. 2 boys were already charged and on house arrest when anonymous got involved, but the goal was to alert the world to the graphic details behind the story. Some of those details were false or grossly exaggerated by either Ky or his supporters, but the goal nonetheless was to produce public outrage over the shaming of this girl.

The mission to weaponize the media and produce such outrage was accomplished. Thousands rallied in Steubenville. Media from across the world camped out in Steubenville. Ky did some media interviews, and eventually the 2 boys charged were tried and sentenced in a court of law. #oprollredroll was over and a success according to the initial goals set out in the beginning. Everyone touted the Knightsec/KY banner for over 6 months until the last few days after Ky unmasked as Deric Lostutter revelaing the feds had raided his home gathering evidence on the rollredroll.com website hack that his partner Batcat aka Noah Mchugh did. It appears that Noah, a defense department employee will not be charged with any crimes. Noah is preparing for his wedding while Deric(KY) is facing 25 years in prison for his role in #oprollredroll. A grand jury has been convened in Steubenville and is hearing evidence on 16 individuals who refused to cooperate during the initial August 2012 rape investigation, and will determine if other crimes were commited during said investigation.

Deric after unmasking began seeking donations for his legal defense, but soon after raising over $40,000 alot of his supporters began turning on him as he proceeded to do dozens of interviews. Deric/KY was soon attacked on twitter as a "fame whore, ego fag, fake, fraud" and worse descriptions that we won't get into here. There has also been countless youtube videos made by Deric in which he uses satire to make fun of women, food stamps and more that are now being used against the boy in the public's eyes.

People quickly began forgetting how Deric/Ky started #oprollredroll as a means to not only stand up for a rape victim, but for a cause he believed in which entailed speaking out against crimes and a situation in a small Ohio town that he believed was wrong. That is something that this country was founded upon, and something people continue to fight for to this very day. The right to stand up for yourself, and the right to stand up and speak out against things you believe are wrong. The right to risk your freedom, and everything you have to speak out against the government, and stand up for your beliefs.

Over the weekend, Deric/Ky clearly beginning to feel the pressure of his pending legal troubles and the constant attacks of his once supporters/now haters, Deric according to his tweets got drunk, and began fighting back against those trash talking him on social media. This went on for hours until, Commander X attorney Jay Leiderman stepped in and advised the 26 year old Kentucky rapper to hush up, and take a break from twitter. Ky took the advice touting some kind of special announcement later today on the Jake Tapper show on CNN.

The entire thing reminds me of a Captain America dissertation on Mark Twain during the Marvel civil war series in which Captain America was labeled a criminal by the government for standing against laws he felt to be unconstitutional. The quotes are as follows:

"I remember the first time I really understood what it was to be an American...What it was to be a patriot."

"I was just a kid...A million years ago, it seems sometimes. Maybe twelve. I was reading Mark Twain. And he wrote something that struck me right down to my core...something so powerful, so true, that it changed my life. I memorized it so I could repeat it to myself, over and over across the years. He wrote --'In a republic, who is the country?

Is it the government which is for the moment in the saddle? Why, the government is merely a temporary servant: it cannot be its prerogative to determine what is right and what is wrong, and decide who is a patriot and who isn't. It's function is to obey orders, not originate them.

Who, then is the country? Is it the newspaper? Is it the pulpit? Why, these are mere parts of the country, not the whole of it, they have not command, they have only their little share in the command.

In a monarchy, the king and his family are the country: In a republic it is the common voice of the people each of you, for himself, by himself and on his own responsibility, must speak.

It is a solemn and weighty responsibility, and not lightly to be flung aside at the bullying of pulpit, press, government, or the empty catchphrases of politicians.

Each must for himself alone decide what is right and what is wrong, and which course is patriotic and which isn't. You cannot shirk this and be a man.

To decide it against your convictions is to be an unqualified and inexcusable traitor, both to yourself and to your country, let men label you as they may.

If you alone of all the nation shall decide one way, and that way be the right way according to your convictions of the right, you have your duty by yourself and by your country. Hold up your head. You have nothing to be ashamed of'."

Cap continues, "Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right.

This nation was founded on one principle above all else: The requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree besides the river of truth, and tell the whole world--

--No,you move."

That's a very powerful speech, and Deric has remained vocal since coming back into the public light. Many people fault him for that, but what if it was you. Would you remain silent facing 25 years in prison while your partner, a government employee gets away scott free? Would you not weaponize the media again to get your side of the story out there? After knowingly risking your freedom by speaking out and conducting various other anon ops not want a little help from your comrades, and to let the public know what is going on?

I personally have no dog in this fight, and can't wait until the Steubenville drama is over. i may not have agreed with all the tactics used during #oprollredroll, but as I was reporting it I couldn't say that. I will say that I am fully behind the idea that is anonymous. The rights to stand up for what you believe in no matter what the cost.

I also feel that not just KY should be facing prison time as it pertains to the Steubenville case if the government wants to go after anonymous, and conduct by individuals during the course of this drama. So far, Ky is the biggest fish nabbed by the feds, but there were bomb threats made against local schools in steubenville (suspected by what one Steubenville Law enforcement official on grounds of anonymity describes as "locals who just wanted to start shit and put a bad name on the pecaeful masked up protesters from the rallies.) The investigation into those threats, death threats against Sherrif Fred Abdalla, his family, Chief Mccafferty and his family, as well as threats against this reporter are still being investigated with no arrests. I'm told the FBI has suspects but no one except KY and potentially the individuals on the block by the grand jury are facing charges. It's definite KY will be facing charges, the grand jury has no guarantee of charges.

The question is, why are they dragging ass on the individuals who threatened residents, journalists, and law enforcement officials not caught yet and facing charges.

Say what you want about Deric/Ky, but he stood up for what he believed in despite the consequences. How many of us can honestly say that we would do that until the bitter end?

There are still many KY supporters out there. In situations like this, the good always outweighs the bad.

One thing is damn sure though: Steubenville is no longer about a 16 year old rape victim. It's become more about people attacking each other over who is right, and who is wrong. That the masked people are evil, and the town supporters are right and vice versa. It's become a gross shell of it's former self with the young teen lost in the mix. It's about second guessing, hating on each other, and trying to make people look bad on either side of the coin. It's now about attcking and second guessing MSM,bloggers and Indy journalists.It's about pointing out each other's mistakes. (and there were mistakes galore made during this case on all sides: anon, media, town supporters, anon supporters, and hell I made quite a few, but what does it matter this was never about any of us.)

People have lost their minds over this case finally, and it's become a pathetic shit show.

Lungs Face Feet Performing on the Street During 3 Rivers Arts Fest

A little over 1 year ago, Lungs Face Feet performed a free show underneath the Bloomfield Bridge in the East End of Pittsburgh. What they didn't know is that the park they were in was dangerously close to a fallen Pittsburgh police officer's memorial park that was vandalized earlier in the week. Pittsburgh police responded to the show with excessive force and dozens of angry officers arriving to immediately arrest the accordion player, use fould language to the concert goers, be rude and aggressive, and discharging pepper spray. (one officer actually ran thru his own pepper spary cloud, and charged a concert goer with shooting the officer with spray.) Officers described the scene as a riot.

The end result of the was 31 people being charged with rioting, and 9 arrests. The band was shocked by the actions of the Pittsburgh Police, but thankfully the majority of arrests and charges were reduced. There was no riot. Just a beautiful concert on a warm Pittsburgh summer's night. To this day, the officers conduct remains a mystery to the public.

Lungs Face Feet is a gypsy band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with strong ties to the community often headling community events like the polish hill festival, and performs everywhere they can in the city.

One year later, this amazing band would perform at Katz Plaza during the 3 Rivers Art Festival, a downtown Pittsburgh event that draws thousands to the city and point state park. Sadly, this journalist missed their first set due to filming on another project, but I happened to stumble into LOungs Face Feet as they set up a impromptu performance outside of the Wyndam Grand Hotel in Downtown Pittsburgh for an audience of over 100 people who stopped while walking by to dance and enjoy LFF's full street set.

It's good to see 1 year later after a bullshit encounter with police, Lungs Face Feet, and their fans are performing far and wide in the city of Pittsburgh. This band is amazing, and announced last night plans to tour. If they come to your town, it's well worth the price of admission.

Steubenville Football Star Trent Mays: A Tier 2 Sex Offender

Today Ma'lik Richmond and Trent Mays were supposed to find out what classification of sexual predator they would have to register as before being moved to a rehab facility as part of their sentences for the August 2012 rape of a 16 year old girl.

Richmond's hearing was given a continuance with no explanation from Judge Thomas Lipps or comment from his attorney Walter Madison. The sexual predator classification is necessary in order for both teens to be transferred to a juvenile sex offender rehabilitation facility.

Both Mays and Richmond have been said to be behaving themselves and responding to treatment thus far while incarcerated.
Mays is looking forward to a transfer according to his attorney: "Our client looks forward to the opportunity to attend the Paint Creek program, follow all the facility rules, and display to the Court and the community that he has been rehabilitated fully in hopes of returning to his family," Columbus attorney Brian Duncan said in a statement.

However being teen sex offenders doesn't have the same consequences as adult sex offenders. Mays and Richmonds names won't show up on national website databases and based on their history of rehabilitation, the boys can later petition the court to have their sexual predator classification removed.

The defense tried getting Judge Lipps to classify Mays as tier 1 citing he is trying to better himself.
Jane Doe's mother spoke at the hearing reminding the court that "Mays publicly shamed her daughter, and that ridicule will never leave her daughter." Mays addressed the court in the same zombie like manner in which he addressed Jane Doe's family at the trial: "I am sorry for everything I did that night I know I was wrong."

The state sought a Tier 3 classification citing that Mays showed no remorse for his crime during an assesment before treatment. They also cited the mental harm done to the vitcim, and the gross nature of the crime.

Judge Lipps however deemed Mays as a Tier 2 sex offender which according to Ohio Law a Tier 2 offender "includes those who have been convicted of offenses such as gross sexual imposition with a victim under 13 years old, pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor when the offender is four or more years older than the victim. Adult offenders must register every 180 days for 25 years; juvenile offenders must register for 20 years."

Mays is now eligible for transfer to the Pine Creek Rehabilitaion facility pending acceptance for admission.

Thoughts After A Storm

I must admit to being scared of the storm that had been predicted these past few days. I never really was this upset before. Oh, I always took the advised precautions but I really wasn’t antsy. For most of my life Pittsburgh was a little protected area, surrounded by hills and more subjected to flooding than anything else. With three major rivers and dozens of small streams and creeks we are used to it.

Over the past fifteen or so years we have seen weather events like nothing any of us were familiar with. Huge storms, straight line winds that rip up hundred year old trees as if they were weeds and yes, even tornadoes. I would have bet that there would be kangaroos hopping down Wood Street before there would be a tornado on Mount Washington. We have strange seasons merging into one another and then retreating, and so on.

To me, at the age of sixty one, I don’t need to be told that something is not right. The thing of it is. It’s a good to be concerned about the weather and its power to damage and turn lives upside down. It’s good to take precautions for predicted weather all throughout our country. It’s really foolish and shortsighted and frankly, cowardly to give up our freedoms and our American way of life to the power hungry among us that use a fear of terrorists to turn us into the very types that do seek to harm us. We are far more likely to have our lives torn apart by climate change than by some fanatic with a martyr wish.

So for me, I’ll watch the weather and I’ll check on all of those AMERICANS in power that grasp for more and more and I will fight to hold on to the freedoms we still have and fight even more to reclaim those that were stolen from us with tales of monsters under our beds.

The Deric Lostutter/Ky Anonymous Legal Defense Fund: A chat with Jason Flores Williams, Ky's Lawyer

It's been a busy week for a 26 year old rapper from Kentucky who recently unmasked himself as KY Anonymous, the man who spear headed #ophuntermoore, #opwestboro and then #oprollredroll in Steubenville, Ohio. Deric Lostutter/KY weaponized the media to bring international attention to the rape of a 16 year old victim.

The town of Steubenville would never be the same after Ky and Justbatcat aka Noah Mchugh began by taking over rollredroll.com on December 23, 2012 by defacing the Steubenville booster website with a message from anonymous, and releasing site owner Jim Parks' emails. The rest as they say is history. It's been 6 months since the operation was launched and has cooled down with the convictions of Trent Mays and Ma'lik Richmond back in March. A Steubenville Grand Jury between multiple breaks is currently investigating if more crimes were committed during the night in question where Jane Doe was raped, and if 16 other individuals should be charged for refusing to cooperate with investigators.

Deric also may find himself in front of this Grand Jury, as Feds raided his Kentucky home back in April searching for evidence as it pertained to the Parks Website Hack. Ky anonymous had briefly resurfaced online using the hacked twitter account of Popadopalous in April, to tweet shortly before the raid on his home. Since April 16th, the account that used to belong to Pops (used by KY) went silent.

Last week, Ky made his final return via his rapper Twitter account announcing Project Knightsec and his legal troubles with a plea for defense fundraising. KY is being represented by the Whistle Blowers Defense League, a team of attorneys who represent Journalists, members of anonymous, activists, and whistle blowers like Barret Brown. The WBDL is spearheaded by attorneys Jason Flores-Williams and Jay Leiderman. (Jay Leiderman represents anonymous powerhouses like Commander X, and Lulz Sec Member Topiary) Within 72 hours of launching his wepay campaign, KY had $30,000 raised from supporters. Ky facing a decade in prison, while Mays and Richmond only serving a year for the rape of Jane Doe.

Ky's legal team then asked for a goal of half a million dollars for his defense. The funds would cover waging an all out war in the courtroom, and also cover his lawyers expenses, and provide security during the coming trial. There was a social media backlash at the new fundraising goal, which prompted KY/Deric to refer questions to his attorneys. This went on for days. accusations of greed, and fame whoring were thrown at KY.

KY has not been formally indicted yet, but in a statement released yesterday, Williams released a statement on behalf of his client: "Thru talks with US GOV, we know that Deric will be charged with 3 felonies under CFAA,Can't say more due to AC privilege. But facing heavy time. Stand together." -JFW

I reached out to Williams via email to ask questions regarding the concerns of the public as it pertained to trying to raise half a million dollars, and received a response back validating the goals of the legal defense fundraising:

"I doubt seriously we get to even 50 thousand. But the money will be used specifically for defense expenses. Example:basic travel costs for attorneys to hearings, basic travel costs for witnesses to hearings, multitudinous subpoenas (service of process expenses), government witness interviews and legal document transcription costs for possible impeachment at trial, expert witnesses ranging from 6 to 10k per (not including their travel and report expenses), independent computer forensics, investigation of persons in Ohio, pretrial discovery, voir dire research: this is all prior to commencement of actual trial of which basic costs--travel, stay; witness travel and lodging, exhibits and document prep, are extremely high. To put on an a strong, fierce defense pursuant to a Defendant's Sixth Amendment rights in America is a costly proposition.

Furthermore, there may be a need for security for the defense team during any extended stays in the Steubenville area." -JFW

when asked about what will become of any left over funds, or if the funds aren't used Williams replied:

"We have kept names of all donors and will write them: 1)thanking them. 2)Asking if they want a refund or if they would like the WBDL to use their funds for our next case."

Furthermore, Wepay uses a social security number for tax purposes as it pertaines to funds raised,I asked ultimately who will be paying taxes on the funds raised and Williams Answered: "A question for our accountant....But as w see it, there is no profit from the funds as it they are solely for expenses, so that while reporting them, we should not pay taxes on them as income. It's a great question. All we can do here is be totally open and transparent. And report properly."

On a side Note, Mr. Williams wanted it known that he is a die hard Steelers fan.
Currently the Ky legal defense fund has over 44k raised as of the time of this story being filed. In the meantime, Ky has been once again weaponizing the media bringing atttention to his story, and his upcoming battle with the US government. Ky has appeared on countless blog talk radio shows, done press with TV and print media all last week, and even says he's had a panic attack which resulted in a hospital trip due to battling with all the trolls coming after him.

The feds are after Ky for the website hack mentioned earlier, but KY has maintained he has not hacked anything while his partner JUSTBATCAT akd Noah Mchugh has publicly admitted on twitter, and in a Herald Star Interview that he is the only one who commited any computer crimes during the op. I have called and texted Mcgugh multipe times for a comment on recent developments and to see if he also has been hit by the feds. He has not responded to requests for a comment. Noah works for the DOD, and it is suspected that because he works for the government he has not been touched.

The Computer Fraud and Abuse Act is designed to prosecute individuals who knowingly access "protected computers." In theory the CFAA only applies

"The only computers, in theory, covered by the CFAA are defined as “protected computer”s. They are defined under section 18 U.S.C. § 1030(e)(2) to mean a computer:

exclusively for the use of a financial institution or the United States Government, or any computer, when the conduct constituting the offense affects the computer's use by or for the financial institution or the Government; or
which is used in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce or communication, including a computer located outside the United States that is used in a manner that affects interstate or foreign commerce or communication of the United States...

In practice, any ordinary computer has come under the jurisdiction of the law, including cellphones, due to the inter-state nature of most internet communication." -SOURCE WIKIPEDIA

Criminal offenses under CFAA are defined as follows:

(a) Whoever—

(1) having knowingly accessed a computer without authorization or exceeding authorized access, and by means of such conduct having obtained information that has been determined by the United States Government pursuant to an Executive order or statute to require protection against unauthorized disclosure for reasons of national defense or foreign relations, or any restricted data, as defined in paragraph y. of section 11 of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, with reason to believe that such information so obtained could be used to the injury of the United States, or to the advantage of any foreign nation willfully communicates, delivers, transmits, or causes to be communicated, delivered, or transmitted, or attempts to communicate, deliver, transmit or cause to be communicated, delivered, or transmitted the same to any person not entitled to receive it, or willfully retains the same and fails to deliver it to the officer or employee of the United States entitled to receive it;

(2) intentionally accesses a computer without authorization or exceeds authorized access, and thereby obtains—

(A) information contained in a financial record of a financial institution, or of a card issuer as defined in section 1602 (n) [1] of title 15, or contained in a file of a consumer reporting agency on a consumer, as such terms are defined in the Fair Credit Reporting Act (15 U.S.C. 1681 et seq.);

(B) information from any department or agency of the United States; or

(3) intentionally, without authorization to access any nonpublic computer of a department or agency of the United States, accesses such a computer of that department or agency that is exclusively for the use of the Government of the United States or, in the case of a computer not exclusively for such use, is used by or for the Government of the United States and such conduct affects that use by or for the Government of the United States;

(4) knowingly and with intent to defraud, accesses a protected computer without authorization, or exceeds authorized access, and by means of such conduct furthers the intended fraud and obtains anything of value, unless the object of the fraud and the thing obtained consists only of the use of the computer and the value of such use is not more than $5,000 in any 1-year period;

(5)

(A) knowingly causes the transmission of a program, information, code, or command, and as a result of such conduct, intentionally causes damage without authorization, to a protected computer;

(B) intentionally accesses a protected computer without authorization, and as a result of such conduct, recklessly causes damage; or

(C) intentionally accesses a protected computer without authorization, and as a result of such conduct, causes damage and loss.

(6) knowingly and with intent to defraud traffics (as defined in section 1029) in any password or similar information through which a computer may be accessed without authorization, if—

(A) such trafficking affects interstate or foreign commerce; or

(B) such computer is used by or for the Government of the United States;

(7) with intent to extort from any person any money or other thing of value, transmits in interstate or foreign commerce any communication containing any—

(A) threat to cause damage to a protected computer;

(B) threat to obtain information from a protected computer without authorization or in excess of authorization or to impair the confidentiality of information obtained from a protected computer without authorization or by exceeding authorized access; or

(C) demand or request for money or other thing of value in relation to damage to a protected computer, where such damage was caused to facilitate the extortion^[

If Deric did not hack the website, cause damage to any computers, steal someone's identity, or try to extort money from Jim Parks and Batcat has taken sole credit for the hack and all criminal activity associated with the hack,

Trent Mays and Mali'k Richmond to Find Out Their Sexual Predator Fate on June 14

Trent Mays and Ma'lik richmond will find out their sexual predator tier rating in a hearing scheduled for June 14, 2013 when they see judg Thomas Lipps again. Lipps found the boys delinquent in the rape of a 16 year old Weirton girl in August. The boys were sentenced after a 5 day trial in March.

The tier system consists of 3 levels of sexual predator classifications. Tier I (a minor classification) requires the offender to report in every 10 years, Tier II has the offender reporting their address every 6 months for 20 years, and the most severe rating, Tier III must report their locations to the local sherrif in any county they live and work in for life. Mays and Richmond are said to be responding nicely to their "rehabilitation" so far with no major incidents reported at the Cuyahoga Boys School institution.

Jude Lipps initially ordered the boys serve their sentences at Paint Creek Light House Youth Center, a privatley run facility for the Ohio DYS, and has "an excellent rehabilitation program for sexual offenders." Paint Creek also has no bars, fences or cells, and is a minumum security facility.

Paint Creek must also evaluate both teens before determinging their acceptance into the facility.

A Steubenville grand jury will reconvene on June 17th to determine if any more crimes were broken, and if any other individuals need to be charged in connection with the August Jane Doe rape investigation.

Ky Anonymous Unmasks and Launches #ProjectKnightsec

Greetings Citizens of the World, I am Deric Lostutter, and this is my story.

Approximately Mid-April 2012 a search warrant was carried out on my address in Winchester, Kentucky for alleged communications with one “Noah Mchugh” aka @justbatcat regarding the hacking of http://www.rollredroll.com and my alleged involvement in said hacking. Upon returning from a brief turkey hunt behind my farm I had just sat down and opened up my computer to work when my pitbull, named Thor, jumps up on the door as is common for him to do when someone new is at my house. I had been expecting a T-Shirt in the mail from ShieldTactical.com and what appeared to be a Fed-Ex truck was parked in my driveway. As I open the door to great the driver approximately 12 F.B.I. Swat Team agents jumped out of the truck screaming for me to “Get The Fuck Down” with m-16 assault rifles and full riot gear armed safety off, pointed directly at my head. I was handcuffed and detained outside while they cleared my house. My brother soon emerged later with his new girlfriend, both bewildered that the F.B.I. was at my house seeing as I have no prior criminal history, both of them in handcuffs as well. The Swat team left my belongings in the floor, my dogs shocked, my family nervous, my garage door battered open with a ram though I stated I had a key, and the RV camper window broken for entry though I stated to pull hard on the door.

Looking around I seen the Swat Team of course, a few fbi detectives from Columbus Ohio, Lexington KY, and Louisville KY. Also with them were a state trooper or 2, a local sheriff, and shortly thereafter the buildings were cleared the CIS labcoat wearing “Geek Squad” so to speak who analyzes your “evidence”.

I was detained on the back patio, I asked if I was going to jail, they said no, they said who are you, I responded KYAnonymous. They asked me a few questions, asked me for my passwords for my account, stated that I could not tell anyone I was raided or I would face additional charges such as “destroying/tampering with evidence”. They pulled out ALLEGED emails between me and @justbatcat aka Noah McHugh from Noah’s inbox indicating that someone is trying to “sell me down the river”. They stated they had been watching me for a long time, prior to Jim Parks, and that I was a good guy, and even joked around a bit about the good things I have done, none the less, sincere or not, They are the FBI and to them I am Anonymous, the embodiment of a dangerous threat according to their m16 assault rifles aimed at me for a computer.

Before they departed, I asked them for names and badge numbers of each involved. I got none of them as I requested and subsequently it took me the better part of a month just to get a phone call returned for the status of my belongings let alone tracking down my case agent to columbus ohio. I asked Agent Bixby (who in all fairness seems to be fighting for me and believes I am a good guy) the status of my belongings and they had no time table, as of this post they are still with the FBI being analyzed. I was emailed their intent to send out a “Target Letter” which means they are going to try to indict me for a Federal Offense, (most likely a felony and two misdemeanors) to a secret Grand Jury of 23 individuals, for which I can not be present to state my side, nor state my innocence. Let us not forget that Batcat did the hack, as stated in the Herald ARTICLE HERE which by all accounts is a clear admission of guilt. So I am curious to see the charges, as is the lawyer I have teamed up with, Jason Flores-Williams of the WhistleBlower Defense League.

WBDL is a group of very serious attorneys who come to their clients aid mostly “pro-bono” and look to defer defense costs through “Grass Roots” fundraising. Hence the need for a store on this site, and the wepay campaign which will be on this site later today. The group was founded in most part by famed attorney of Commander-X , Jay Leiderman.

This is my call to you, in the media, in the world of anonymous, who look to change the world to a free, transparent one, to my friends and family as well, to come to my aid, if you can find it in your heart, share my story, donate, buy a sticker, rally in the streets to demand the investigation against me be dismissed. I stood up for a rape victim, I shared information that was public, I had an opinion, and now I am needing you to stand up for me.

The workers at the Vio.Me. Factory in Thessaloniki, Greece have quickly grown into a symbol of self-management internationally. After going on strike and occupying their factory, on February 12, 2013 they re-opened the factory and started production under worker's control. What Happened to Jake Limberios?

This piece was prepared by Michelle L. McKee and Alexandria Goddard in support of a request for the public’s assistance in seeking justice for the death of Jacob Limberios. This request for assistance was made by the Limberios family by and through their attorney Dan McGookey:

Jacob Limberios died by gunshot wound to the head on March 2, 2012 at around 9:30 P.M. Jacob was hanging out with three other acquaintances in a house the night he was shot. The three witnesses, along with Jacob, all took a turn test firing a gun in the backyard of the house prior to Jacob’s death. Alcohol was consumed prior to the test firing. After test firing the gun, Jacob and the three witnesses went inside the house. At that time, Jacob completely unloaded the gun onto the floor. One of the witnesses at the house picked both the casings and the live round up from the floor. Apparently, Jacob then reloaded the live round into the gun. Jacob then handed the gun to another witness whom requested to see the gun again. The gun was supposedly passed around among the three witnesses. One of the witnesses admitted that Jacob warned the others to be careful because a live round was in the chamber.

Around that time, Jacob was shot in the head. All three of the people at the house contended that Jacob shot himself.

Within minutes of the shooting, the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to the scene. Two officers were the first to arrive at the scene, and within an hour, the Sandusky County Sheriff also arrived. At one point, the Officers were heard laughing over Jacob’s dead body, with one of them questioning who was going to pick up the bill for clean up. This occurred while Michael Limberios, Jacob’s father, stood outside the house in the freezing cold, in shock and grieving the loss of his son.

In violation of its own standard procedure, no Detective was called to the scene that night. In addition to not calling a qualified investigator to the scene, the Sheriff’s Department: did not separate the three witnesses; did not call in the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation; did not call in the Coroner; did not require the witnesses to take a breathalyzer, or otherwise determine their blood/alcohol content; did not collect the evidence that would assist in determining the amount of alcohol that had been consumed; allowed one of the witnesses to change her clothes at the death scene without taking them into evidence; allowed another witness to throw away his blood-splattered shoes in the Deputy’s presence; did not retrieve the bullet from the attic of the residence; did not collect DNA or fingerprints from the witnesses; did not submit the gun for testing, or otherwise having appropriate tests conducted; did not take measurements of the room, did not document the location of physical evidence in the room, did not document the location of the bullet hole in the ceiling, and/or did not document the location of where the bullet lodged in the attic; did not collect and preserve Jacob’s clothing; did not require Jacob’s body to be properly examined to gather valuable forensic evidence; and allowed Jacob’s body to be removed, embalmed and buried within a matter of days.

Further there were several inconsistencies with the statements given by the three witnesses in the house that night. In particular, at least one witness stated that Jacob warned the others that the gun was loaded but later contended that Jacob may not have known the gun was loaded. The assertion that Jacob may not have known the gun was loaded was adopted by the Sheriff’s Department and the Coroner in their official reports. In fact, on Jacob’s Death Certificate, the Sandusky County Coroner specifically stated: “deceased shot self in the head, may not have realized the gun was loaded.”

Further, two of the witnesses at the house told investigators that Jacob was facing the sofa at the time of the shooting. This could not be true because it was physically impossible for the shooting to have occurred in the manner described given the layout of the room and considering that the entry wound was on the top, left side of Jacob’s skull. In order for Jacob to be facing the couch he would have had to have been facing a westerly direction, and the bullet would have traveled towards the north or west side of the residence. However, in reality the bullet traveled toward the south side, went into the ceiling, and lodged in a beam in the attic.

Also, troubling, the three people that witnessed the shooting admitted that the gun was moved (after the 9-1-1 dispatcher told them not to move it).

The Sandusky County Coroner’s ruling of “suicide”, yet contending that Jacob “may not have realized the gun was loaded”, was based on the contentions of the Sheriff’s Department after the Sheriff’s Department did not call a qualified Detective to the scene of Jacob’s death, did not properly collect evidence, and freely permitted the destruction of valuable evidence. Further, the Sandusky County Coroner made the determination of essentially accidental suicide, which to this day he sticks by, without examining the death scene, without examining Jacob’s body, without gathering or reviewing any forensic evidence, and without talking to a single witness.

Renowned forensic pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht has declared that the Sandusky County’s Coroner’s ruling on Jacob’s death certificate was wrong. Dr. Cyril Wecht determined that, based upon his observations of the forensic autopsy he performed on Jacob’s body in September 2012, Jacob’s death was by homicide. Such observations included a lack of “stippling” at the entry wound site. Dr. Wecht stated as follows. “(i)n my professional opinion, based on a reasonable degree of medical and scientific certainty, there is no way that Limberios could have shot himself, either by accident or with suicidal intent. The shot had to be fired by someone else, and that Jacob’s death was a result of a homicide.”

After the investigation was closed initially the night of Jacob’s death, Jacob’s family continued to question the circumstances of Jacob’s death. However, despite the family’s continuing questions, the Sheriff’s Department refused to conduct any further investigation, declaring the investigation “over” on April 9, 2012. Jacob’s parents were forced to hire Counsel. Over the course of the next few months, Counsel repeatedly tried to contact the Sandusky County Coroner, who refused to talk or communicate with Counsel. In addition, Counsel repeatedly asked the Sandusky County Prosecutor to conduct an autopsy of Jacob. Those requests were refused.

After several months of requesting Sandusky County officials to conduct a proper investigation into the death of their son, and continuous refusal to do so, Jacob’s parents, Michael and Shannon Limberios, were forced to file a case on October 19, 2012 (over seven months after Jacob’s death). Finally, on November 2, 2012, it seemed that Sandusky County was going to reopen the investigation into Jacob’s death. However, to date, and over a year after Jacob’s death, it seems that Sandusky County still has not conducted a meaningful investigation into his death.

The Sandusky County Prosecutor and his successor have sought delays in Jacob’s family’s search for the truth, have accused them and their Counsel of manufacturing evidence, have publicly suggested that Michael and Shannon Limberios “bought and paid for” results of the autopsy report that suggested Jacob did not kill himself, have publicly suggested that they have evidence to support their untenable position that Jacob shot himself but have not shared what that evidence is. Even more so, Sandusky County has refused Michael and Shannon Limberios’ requests to have the as the Ohio Attorney General come in and take over the investigation.

All of the above actions have taken a tremendous emotional and economic toll on Michael and Shannon Limberios. They have repeatedly stated that all they want is to know what happened to their son on the night that he died. With each passing day Michael and Shannon Limberios suffer more grief, not only from the loss of their son, but also from what seems to be the repeated and incessant refusal of Sandusky County to conduct a meaningful investigation which would give them the answer to what happened to Jacob. Given this, they have not even begun to heal from their horrible loss.

Due to the inadequate, incompetent, corrupt, and heartless practices of Sandusky County officials, the only avenue that will lead to the truth of how Jacob died is through the organization and action of his family and friends, those who truly want justice.

Jacob's daughter deserves to know what happened to her daddy. His family and friends need to know what happened to their fiancé, son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle and buddy. Jacob's name needs to be cleared so that other families can have some kind of assurance that this atrocity cannot, will not, happen to them.

LAWS BROKEN BY WITNESSES

Whether or not Jake died by his own hand, the following laws were still broken by the three witnesses.

2921.32: hinder the discovery
2921.12: false statements; tampering with evidence
2921.13: falsification, make false statements
2921.31: obstructing official business
2921.32: obstruction of justice
2921.15: handling a firearm after consuming alcohol

The following information was made public by Sandusky County and is being provided here as an information resource. Any private information within any audio or text evidence is public information provided by Sandusky County.

The audio following audio is from investigative interviews conducted by Sandusky County officials. Special Prosecutor Dean Henry tried to have this information sealed and described these witness statements as being "absolutely consistent".

Sean O’Connell was appointed to head up Dr. Wukie's coroner's inquest and is insisting that it is a necessity for him to ride in the hearse along with Jacob's body to Toledo at the time of the second exhumation. The Justice for Jake Facebook page makes the following statement:

Special Prosecutor

Dean Henry was assigned as a Special Prosecutor for the criminal case (why is there a Special Prosecutor for a criminal case when Jacob Limberios death is ruled as a suicide?) He also represents Dr. John J. Wukie in the civil filing brought against him by Mike & Shannon Limberios.

Mike and Shannon Limberios had their son exhumed and hired Dr. Cyril Wecht to do an independent autopsy when their repeated requests were denied by the county.

Note: Dean Henry stated he finds it suspicious that Dr. Wecht did not explicitly state that he found the death to be a homicide in the report, but did so 3 months later in a subsequent letter. Dean Henry's strategy is to punch holes in our evidence, and this is a crucial hole that he is attempting to punch open. Notice that on the cover page, Dr. Wecht states, "I believe the pathological diagnoses are self-explanatory. However, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me". When the subsequent letter that was written 3 months later in more explicit phraseology, it was after Greg Majoy requested that Dr. Wecht did so. On page 6, Dr. Wecht states that, "No stippling pattern is seen. There is no powder burning in the surrounding skin". On page 10, Dr. Wecht states, "...definite blackening of the edge of one of the bones, consistent with deposition of soot. Soot is also seen in the subperiosteal rim of this same fragment". This soot is not to be confused with stippling, as Dr. Wecht clearly explains in his interview on Between the Lines Live..

Steubenville City Manager asked to Resign

Steubenville City Manager Cathy Davidson is out of a job soon it seems. She was asked for her resignation, yet nothing official has come about as of the time of writing this days after the story broke.

Davidson, who after Anonymous began holding rallies in support of Jane Doe whow as raped by Trent Mays and Malik Richmond last august, birthed the idea of creating a site called Steubenville Facts in an attempt to present accurate facts about the town and the Steubenville Rape case investigation. The site itself was nothing glamourous, was deemed unhackable by Davidson, and was quickly taken offline within hours of the press conference announcing it's creation back in January.

The website which had to "clarify" an onion like satire's website joke story that the town would still allow Mays and Richmond to play football after their convictions, voiced Lee Stranahan as the voice of Steubenville, and has removed all of the assinine and irrelevant postings from it's site only listing a few posts from March before the trial.
Davidson also held press conferences leading up to the Steubenville Rape trial that had nothing to do with the case at all, but instead chastized the media, made it out like the entire town was under attack by the world, and" the town has to be good because they have lots of churches."

Davidson is no stranger to controversy, in recent weeks as gang violence and shooting escalated, made statements to WTOV 9's Eric Minor that instead of increasing the city's police force which has been drastically cut, the national guard was a viable option to protect the city and restore order. The National Guard was never deployed or was even aware of these remarks or "plan".

Davidson has served the city of Steubenville since 2010 as their city manager,and is still listed on Steubenville's website as the city manager.

Davidsons soon to be forced resignation is like rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic as the ship sank. Granted, with all her ridiculous statements it seems like she doesn't know what she's doing, but Steubenville has cut it's police force, is clueless when it comes to curbing the gang violence and criminal activity of the "so called" Chicago Boys. One shooting that happened last month had one man shot, left in the middle of a backstreet with a sheet over the body for hours.

Davidson isn't the only one facing the ax in Steubenville, Steubenville administrators also closed a firestation, and laid off 2 firefighters.
The resignations, and layoffs shouldn't stop there.

Steubenville Police Chief William "The Thong" Mcafferty should also be asked to go. This is the man who as chief, failed to get the job done in the Steubenville Rape Case prompting the Ohio Attorney general's office to get involved, and who 7 months later executed search warrants for evidence contained at Steubenville High School, The football field, and other locations. Which begs the question why in the hell didn't Mcafferty and his good ole boys do this back in August after the poor girl was raped?

So once again, the question is asked what in the hell is wrong and going on in Steubenville?

On May 1st, 2013, Benny Warr was waiting for the bus in his wheelchair at the intersection of Bartlett St. and Jefferson Ave., near his home. As he was waiting for the bus, a Rochester police cruiser rolled up to the intersection. The officers exited the car and according to Warr, asked him what he was doing.

"I told them I was just waiting for the bus. I was being polite," he said to me in a brief phone interview today.

The next thing Warr knew, he had a face full of mace and three officers punching and wrestling him out of his wheelchair where he was further kicked and beat while on the ground. A savvy citizen, who goes by the handle Shakur Muhammed on YouTube, started recording the incident with her phone just before Warr was violently forced from his chair.

After Warr was arrested, he said he was taken to the hospital where he was released and given an appearance ticket. He was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He's scheduled to be in court next week.

When I asked the reason, he said it would provide useful data concerning the amount of water I use, but I was suspicious. He tried to allay my concern by saying it would be useful not only to the Water Department, but to me as well. I might conserve more water after learning how much I really use and thereby have the incentive to flush less. He also warned me that if I tampered with it, it would set off an alarm at the Department’s headquarters, and they would immediately come out to see what was wrong. So not to worry. It was for my own good.

After he left, I took a magnifying glass to the device to discover who the manufacturer was and the model number. I googled the information and discovered the small, inconspicuous device was actually an extremely sensitive scatological forensic tool. It could instantaneously analyze my shit and send the results to the Water Department via a radio transmitter. The report would tell them what I had ingested that day or the day before, including any illegal drugs and alcohol, whether I was a vegan, vegetarian, or meat eater, what brands of food I preferred, a DNA sample of any pubic hairs that may have fallen into the bowl, my race, gender, ethnicity, and whether I wore briefs or boxers.

You think I’m spinning a yarn? I am. But it is not so far-fetched a scenario as you might think when you consider some other things. While the fabricated debt ceiling debate was consuming our attention, these were quietly accomplished by our government:

The House Judiciary Committee approved legislation on Thursday that would require Internet service providers (ISPs) to collect and retain records about Internet users’ activity.

CNET reported the bill would require ISPs to retain customers’ names, addresses, phone numbers, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, and temporarily-assigned IP addresses for 12 months. The bill passed by a vote of 19 to 10, and is aimed at helping law enforcement track down pedophiles.

The rationale for this bill is to enhance law enforcement’s efforts to developleads that might result in saving a child. Oh, the pictures they conjure up! They may as well have used puppies! Children and puppies always pluck the heart strings, especially the ones who have chips embedded beneath their puppy-breath, fuzzy fur. I mean, really, how can anyone be against saving a puppy? I mean, a child. How dare we frustrate the enforcement of the law because we simply like that our ISP’s do not retain our private information or keep it for extended periods of time just in case the government wants it.

“The bill is mislabeled,” Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), a senior member of the panel told CNET. “This is not protecting children from Internet pornography. It’s creating a database for everybody in this country for a lot of other purposes.” – The Raw Story, Eric W. Dolan.
“The data retention mandate in this bill would treat every Internet user like a criminal and threaten the online privacy and free speech rights of every American, as lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have recognized.” -Senior Staff Attorney, Kevin Bankston of the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

For all I know, Lamar Smith and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, who sponsored this bill, had the best intentions. For all I know, you think I’m an insensitive pedophile! I’m not. But so far law enforcement has done just fine using technology and databases that we know exist. Second of all, I am sure in my gut, law enforcement already has access to anything it wants. And my ISP? I don’t trust it either. I am sure they already know everything about me. And if put under enough pressure, they would cough it up. Red Lion High School refuses to change policies on transgendered students

Update on the story I had on Isaak Wolfe, a transgrendered student who tried running for prom king and was not allowed via Red Lion High School principal Mark Shue.

In a email I received from the ACLU this morning, I was notified that Red Lion HIgh School and principal Mark Shue will not be allowing Issak to be named prom king, nor will address him by his new name at graduation. The following is a press release from the ACLU:

RED LION, Pa. – The Red Lion Area School District (RLASD) has refused to change its policy around transgender candidates for prom court, nor will it agree to allow transgender students to use a name at graduation to match their gender identity, according to a letter from the school district’s solicitor. RLASD’s treatment of its transgender students became an issue last month after a male transgender student, Issak Wolfe, was denied the chance to run for prom king when his principal placed his female birth name in the column for “Prom Queen” despite repeated requests to be listed in accordance with his gender identity.

On April 25, 2013, the American Civil Liberties Union and the ACLU of Pennsylvania sent a letter on behalf of Wolfe, asking among other things that the school allow Wolfe to attend graduation wearing a black cap and gown for boys, as opposed to the yellow cap and gown mandated for girls, and have his male name read at the ceremony. The letter also asked that the school adopt a policy to allow students to run for prom court in accordance with their gender identity, as well as a broader nondiscrimination policy protecting transgender students in the district. In his response, the school district’s solicitor agreed to allow Issak to wear a black cap and gown but denied the rest of his requests.

"I am really disappointed that the school district doesn't want to do anything to protect transgender students," said Wolfe, a senior at Red Lion Area High School. "I want to make sure that future transgender students are not humiliated and disrespected the way I was."

Wolfe has gone by Issak since the summer before his junior year of high school, and his family, friends and most of his teachers call him by that name. Wolfe, who just turned 18 a few weeks ago, plans to legally change his name but that process, which involves a court hearing, cannot be completed in time for graduation next month.

“There is absolutely no legitimate reason for the school to refuse to read Issak’s male name at graduation,” said Reggie Shuford, executive director of the ACLU of Pennsylvania. “Their failure to do so shows the same lack of sensitivity they exhibited during Issak’s attempt to run for prom king and knowingly mars what should be a happy occasion for Issak and his family.”

Wolfe plans to take his case to the RLASD school board at their next meeting on Thursday, May 16.

“It’s a shame the school district won’t adopt common-sense policies that would protect other transgender students down the line,” said Leslie Cooper, staff attorney with the ACLU Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Project. “All students should feel welcome at school and accepted for who they are.”

Steubenville: When will it all be over?

This isn't my usual reporting, but an OP-ED piece

When Ohio Attorney General Mike Dewine announced a grand jury would be convened to explore possible other crimes that may have been committed during the Jane Doe rape case investigation, and that they would be investigating other individuals who may have committed those crimes, no one believed it would take this long.

The Steubenville grand jury has taken a break until May 23rd so that Ohio BCI and the AG's office may review even more evidence on a scope of other possible charges that could be filed while also interviewing and preparing over 40 witnesses.
I was in Steubenville on May 1st, for the purposes of doing interviews for a french documentary on rape culture in America. The town was quiet, but you could feel a uneasy tension still in the town months after Trent Mays and Ma'lik Richmond's conviction on sexually assaulting a 16 year old girl.

I was met by Anonymous Sph3re, the MC for previous anonymous rallies in support of the victim and a few citizens who attended the rallies. They did their interviews first as mine would be a bit more in depth based on my coverage and knowledge of the case. One car circled us 6 times shouting profanities and slurs at us, while others would walk by and shake their heads.

It's a frustrating process going on right now with waiting to see what if anything the GJ will do, and will be even more of a frustrating wait for citizens, the GJ, the investigators and media to wait for Dewine's decision what to do after the grand jury is finished.
Everyone involved in the case is caught on a cliff hanger, we all are waiting for this case to be put to rest, so that we all can move on.
Anonymous to their other operations, media to other stories, the possibly accused to court for their criminal proceedings (if GJ indicts) or to face the pending civil suits of Jane Doe and her attorney Bob Fitzsimmons, The town back to their normal business.

One thing is for sure for everyone involved, indirectly involved or just from the Steubenville area, we all will be forever changed.
Personally this is the longest case/story that I have ever worked on or became well known for. I have lived, breathed, slept and ate Steubenville for over 5 months now. I have put all of my money, and well being into this case resulting in bankruptcy. Folks like Prinnie and more will be coming up on 1 year of living this. This is a case that definitely weighs on your mind and soul.

After Steubenville, I find that even though the case will be over, I will still be on it doing work on multiple documentaries on either the case or rape culture in America with Sphere and many others. I will be covering other cases in the area as there is a plethora of interesting cases that need looked into, investigated and reported on when I am done with the documentaries.

Steubenville brought alot of people together. In the activist sense, It introduced many to the world of finding their voices and speaking out. It inspired rape victims to share their stories. it created networks of activists who would not be active were it not for the protests.

On the town side, it brought some together against anonymous, and victim supporters as well as crewated a dialogue between each other and the media.

Personally for me it introduced me back to my passion for looking into things and speaking for those who can't/won't speak for themselves. Steubenville taught me how to fall in love again with the town itself and someone who was special and the most important person in my life.

Steubenville taught me how to educate others in the field of indy journalism, to be social again, as well as inspire me to become a better journalist and investigator.

I have seen my own friends come after me for gaining notoriety, and media attention on me as it pertains to this case, as well as the above mentioned former lover of mine selling her principles, soul and some of our mutual confidential sources in the hopes of trying to garner fame fortune and notoriety using false, and at times dirty laundry from our relationship to try and further her name and "journalism." It breaks my heart all over again to see such promising talent be wasted on supermarket tabloid rubbish instead of what she could be good at. (This is the only time I will address the garbage she has been printing/saying about myself, MBN, and the anonymous collective.)

I don't think even when this is all over that I can ever get away from Steubenville, and the friends/family, and allies I have made there. A piece of me will always remain in that town because it was there that I truly gave everything I had for the cause, for the story, for the truth and for the public. I can walk away happily knowing that.

Gay Catholic Teacher fired by Catholic Diocease of Columbus

Bishop Frederick Campbell claims that the March firing of Phys Ed teacher Carla Hale was not based on her sexual preference, but because it violated the church's moral teachings and values. He further went on to claim that the Diocese of Columbus "Doesn;t really go looking for this sort of things with their employees." But hale made her relationship with her lover public when listing her partner as a survivor in her mother's oituary which resulted in a public complaint.

Hale is a methodist, and as her attorney states isn't bound by catholic doctrine. Her teacher's union contract also says that she is not bound by any such religious beliefs or catholic doctrine.

Hale has not only filed a complaint with her union, but the city of Columbus as well on the grounds of discrimination based on her sexual orientation. Columbus comissioners are reviewing the teachers case and could take weeks or months to decide whether or not the Diocese violated her civil rights.

The case has grown quick support from the Gay and lesbian communites as well as the activist communites across the ocuntry.
The Hacktivist group Anonymous have also thrown their name into the hat of groups concerned with the Catholic Church's violation of hale's right to be an individual.

Anonymous threatens that is Hale is not reinsatated all of the Columbus diocese's dirty secrets will be found out and revealed to the public.
Many donors to the church have refused to donate to the church's fundraiser held over this weekend.

Despite being well known for their priests molesting children and getting away with it due to big payouts from the churches, the catholic church still finds gay rights to be offensive.

Steubenville grand jury slowly chugging along

The Steubenville Grand Jury finally began meeting on Tuesday at the Jefferson County 911 Call Center to begin investigating whether other individuals broke additional laws going back to August in the rape of 16 year old Jane Doe by Trent Mays and Ma'lik Richmond.

Ohio Attorney General Mike Dewine has promised to bring closure to this case and to attempt to answer all the unanswered questions lingering from this case. Search Warrants were executed on school facilities last week in which documents, and computer hard drives were seized.

The most frustrating thing about this grand jury process for media and the public is that the proceedings are held in secret, are now expected to last weeks not the initial 10 days we were told, and a press conference will be held immediately following the grand jury's recoomendations to either file additional charges or that no new action be taken.

We'll keep you updated as best we can here at Mobile Broadcast News.

UPDATE: the Grand Jury has broke until May 23rd so that Ohio BCI can analyze more evidence and interview more witnesses.

Searching for Occupy: We All Live Downstream

As I am about to post this blog piece, I just got a call from a man named Garvard Good Plume at Pine Ridge telling me that Wounded Knee is being auctioned off RIGHT NOW. I feel sick. Meanwhile, here's what I wrote earlier today....

I am sitting in a cafe in Rapid City, South Dakota on the Pine Ridge Reservation, early for my interview with Charmaine White Face. I watched the riveting, heartbreaking and informative film "Red Cry" for the second time last night to prepare for this interview. I also studied the very specific and helpful directives about how non-indigenous people can support indigenous people at www.lakotagrandmothers.org.

I'm a little nervous and I have to admit that I always feel somewhat awkward and unsure when I meet Indigenous people for the first time - not wanting to tread where I am out of bounds, but not really knowing where boundaries lie. As my friend Jules said on the phone last night, this is a new relationship between Natives and non-Natives. Indeed. I am acutely aware of how our understanding of one another is often pretty fuzzy around the edges, and sometimes pure mush at the center. Still, something deep inside me keeps telling me that this IS the relationship I need to pursue if anything I do is to have meaning. This is the relationship our nation needs to heal if we are ever to recover some semblance of dignity and sanity and means of preserving the earth.

While I am waiting to discover a new relationship to people of the Oglala Sioux Tribe of the Pine Ridge Reservation, I can't help reflecting on my time in Oklahoma amongst the Ponca and my subsequent and enlightening conversations with Casey Camp. And, my relationship with my Dine friends from the Navajo Nation continues to deepen and grow since our first meeting in St. Louis, then on the Black Mesa Reservation.

Two days ago, my Dine friends and I met again in Gillette, Wyoming where we attended Peabody Coal's annual shareholders' meeting and addressed Peabody CEO Greg Boyce about the atrocities committed by his company. While most of us who came from afar were shuttled off to an 'overflow' room, the three Dine present and several mine workers whose pensions have been lost when Peabody abandoned the Patriot mine, got into the main room. Written questions from the overflow room were allowed, but questions pertaining to anything other than previously planned agenda items were not allowed. When questions were asked or read, however, the responses from CEO Boyce were purely perfunctory, prepared and preposterously and pompously evasive. The only question that got a response that could possibly result in follow-up by Peabody was posed by Don Yellowman of the Navajo Nation regarding archeological artifacts dug up at Black Mesa that Peabody has been holding for some 40-50 years. There was an indication that they might be returned - although the bargaining price remains unstated. To my own question about restoring the land to its pre-strip-mined condition, there was no response... or, actually there was... a total lie suggesting that Peabody had kept its promise to restore the land to 'better than it was originally found'. Not hardly, I'm afraid. In the overflow room, we all laughed to keep from crying.

Meanwhile, as the charade inside the shareholders' meeting was going on, Fern MacDonald of M.O.R.E. (Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment) had climbed over the rooftop to attach a huge homemade banner that read: Peabody Attacks: Pensions, Dine Land, Climate. The banner drop came off seamlessly and was perfectly in place just as the meeting let out and attendees exited the building. Fern was then promptly arrested, of course. Following her arrest, two environmentalist from a group who came up from Denver were arrested for taking a photo of their banner: "Peabody Abandons Miners". All spent the night in jail and were arraigned the next day on charges of criminal trespass.

After the protest, John Benally, an elder whose mother spent many nights in jail and whose family continues to resist displacement from their native home at Black Mesa, spoke to me at length about their customs and needs, and how and why I, someone without a drop of Indian blood, am someone who can help them to fight not only for the survival and sovereignty of the Red Nations, but the salvation of Mother Earth. Then, Don Yellowman and I began working on a plan and a strategy for restoring the Navajo lands and people with the help of non-Indigenous volunteers and contributors.

I am humbled and honored to be speaking with these people who understand so much more than I will ever know about how to care for our Mother Earth. What I do know is that out of respect for my own ancestors and the many people in my own community, this will continue to be my quest... To restore honor where, at present, there is none.

More than 250 protesters challenge drones, war and empire at Hancock Field Air Base
31 protesters arrested for blocking base entrance and other civil resistance

The protest started in front of the Thompson Road entrance to the base. After speeches, music and poetry, the protesters marched down East Molloy Road in a dramatic funeral procession to the base's main entrance, where several were arrested for laying down and blocking the main entrance to the base. Others were arrested for various acts of civil resistance. Sunday's rally was part of the three-day weekend event Resisting Drones, Global War and Empire: A Convergence to Action.
