On May 9, 1995, the body of a newborn baby was discovered in Fowl River near Old Pascagoula Road. An autopsy was conducted. The cause of death was drowning, and the manner of death was homicide. The infant was given the name “Angel Baby”.

The case remained cold until November 2022 when genealogy expert, Olivia McCarter, and Moxxy Forensic Investigations identified potential parents of “Angel Baby”.

On November 14, 2024, 44-year-old Amber Therese Purdy was confirmed to be the mother of “Angel Baby”. Purdy never reported her child missing.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Today, February 18, 2020, Mobile County Sheriff’s Office attempted to serve warrants to JERRY NEAL FOWLER, JR (DOB 3/11/80) at his friend’s residence, 1415 Hubert Pierce Road. As Deputies attempted to serve warrants FOWLER barricaded himself inside the residence with a female friend. After a two hour stand off, MCSO negotiators persuaded FOWLER to give himself up to authorities. FOWLER stated he would come out and surrender but only to Captain Paul Burch. “It was a team effort and it really doesn’t matter “who” he surrendered to, as long as he did so peacefully,” said Captain Paul Burch with Mobile County Sheriff’s Office. “Our men and women are trained for this type of situation and our goal is to always have a peaceful resolution, that does not always happen but it did today.”

FOWLER had (6) six warrants; traffic violation, use/possession of drug paraphernalia, possession /receiving controlled substance, criminal trespassing 3rd, illegal prescription of drugs and receiving stolen property 1st. He was arrested on all warrants and taken to Metro Jail.

The female who was barricaded with FOWLER was taken into to custody for questioning. The female was let go and she WILL NOT be charged. There was one firearm found inside the residence, however it was locked inside a safe.
