We don’t have any word from inside Apple what’s new in this new build. No official changelog is provided so far. But one thing is very clear that it invalidates the iOS 5.1.1 untether payload. It doesn’t mean the untethered jailbreak has been patched in this minor update, but you can’t get the untether jailbreak on your iPhone 4 GSM after installing this update until Chronic Dev Team pushes a new Absinthe 2.0 containing fixes for 9B208.

iH8sn0w also conveys the same message through his blog post:

iPhone 4 (GSM) & Apple’s 5.1.1/9B208 Update:
This evening, Apple appears to have (surprisingly) released 5.1.1/9B208 for the iPhone 4 (GSM) exclusively. Although there isn’t much of a difference it was enough to make the 9B206 untether payload for the iPhone 4 (GSM) invalidate on 9B208. Until pod2g/planetbeing build an untether payload for this build, 9B208 support is not included. A small update will be pushed whenever this occurs. This doesn’t mean the untether was patched though.

If you wan’t to get the untethered jailbreak, don’t install this update. And if you have accidentally updated your iPhone 4 (GSM), you can restore the fresh iOS 5.1.1 Build 9B206. But please hurry up to do so since the signing window is still open.

Snowbreeze 2.9.4 is really important for those users who rely on unlock and want to restore the custom iPSW firmware with preserved baseband on their devices. This jailbreak tool does all the things at the same. It preserves the baseband and at the same time jailbreaks the iPSW file.

After you have installed custom iOS 5.1.1 firmware built by this jailbreak tool, you can install Ultrasn0w from Cydia store to unlock your iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. As we have told above it doesn’t support iPhone 4S, so don’t try on that phone.

Absinthe 2.0.1 also brings some minor improvements. If you have successfully jailbroken your device with the very first release, you are not recommended to you this new version.

However, if you are still trying to get the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak on your device, you should install this new version. The jailbreak method is very simple. If you are having tethered iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak on any of your device, you can install Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 fom Cydia which will make your life easier. You won’t need to use Redsn0w to bypass the Apple logo after every reboot.

Contrary to Absinthe 2.0, this package doesn’t require you to reset the device and all settings. In fact if you’ll do, you can loose the tethered jailbreak.

To install Rocky Racoon, just fire up the Cydia store, refresh the changes and install it. But in case you are having non-jailbroken iOS firmware on your device, you can safely jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 untethered using Absinthe.

Absinthe v2.0 jailbreak tool is very simple. It only jailbreaks the device. Besides jailbreaking the device, it doesn’t have any other feature. All you’ll have to do is to download it, unzip and click on “Jailbreak” button. If you rely on unlock, don’t use this tool. Instead, wait for Redsn0w release which will allow you to cook the custom iOS 5.1.1 firmware while preserving the baseband.

Here is how you can use the Absinthe for iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak.

Step 1: First of all back up your device with iTunes.

Step 2: Update the device to iOS 5.1.1.

Step 3: Download absinthe and unzip.

Step 4: Run the tool and click on “Jailbreak” button.

Step 5: Let Absinthe perform the rest of jailbreak process.

Step 6: Wait until iPhone reboots.

Now you have an icon on your homescreen. Launch it and install the Cydia.

Though the recent tweets from Pod2 clearly indicate that Absinthe 2.0 is almost ready which can be released anytime soon but the chances are very high that it may be released at HITB (Hack In The Box) security conference which is taking place in Amsterdam right now. A session about iOS jailbreak esp related to Absinthe Jailbreak has started and @pod2g @p0sixninja @planetbeing are coming on the stage one by one to explain the insides.

To increase the expectation level, here is a tweet from the hacker @xvolks who says that Absinthe 2.0 jailbreak will be out very soon. @xvolks is the same person who first reported about Absinthe 2.0 and also posted a video of jailbroken device by this tool. Later the video was removed on the request of iPhone Dev Team.

As usual a warning for unlockers! If absinthe 2.0 is released today, don’t hurry to update your device to iOS 5.1.1 because you might lose the unlock ability forever. Unlockers must always use a custom iOS 5.1.1 firmware prepared with Redsn0w while preserving the baseband.

After installing Facebook Pages Manager on my iPhone I found that its little bit slow and needs more improvements. Most importantly it misses the Private messages feature.

The app is currently available for download through New Zealand AppStore. It will be rolled out to other countries soon. However, it is interesting that Facebook is founded in the US but this very important app is released outside the US. I don’t know what’s the logic behind this but it seems the company wants to get the feedback and the reports from limited users before it releases it for all.

Redsn0w:

Redsn0w jailbreak is one of the most popular and old tools. This tool has the ability to handle any kind of exploits. Both the Windows and Mac versions of Redsn0w are available. This time iPhone Dev Team will also release the both versions for untethered iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak. This tool is maintained by iPhone Dev Team.

Absinthe:

Absinthe is relatively new tool which is maintained by Chronic Dev Team. The first version of this tool was released in the beginning of year 2012 to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1. Apart from Windows an Mac version, its linux version is also released.

CLI:

A command line interface in the form of “cinject” will also be released to jailbreak iPhone 4S, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPhone 4, iPad 1, iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch models.

The main difference among these tools is that Redsn0w provides you some extra features like preservation of baseband, saving/restoring SHSH etc while the other two tools only jailbreak the device.

At this stage we can divide the users into three categories:

1) The Users Who Rely on Unlock:

If you rely on unlock, esp the iPhone 4S users,  you must not upgrade to iOS 5.1.1. You are advised to wait for Redsn0w with iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak support which will allow you to cook the custom firmware while keeping the current baseband intact. Even if you are running a Gevey based unlock, you should also wait for the next update.

2) The Users with Already Jailbroken Devices:

If your device is already jailbroken tethered or untethered, you can go any side. Either you can keep your existing jailbreak until iPhone Dev Team releases absinthe 2.0 or you can install iOS 5.1.1 if you can live without jailbroken device for few days.

3) The Uses who Don’t Have Jailbreak:

If you don’t have any type of jailbreak right now on your device, you can safely restore fresh iOS 5.1.1 on your device.
