Google’s Android Team showing off “Happy Holidays from Android” video with Google’s lineup of Nexus devices, you may have noticed a Nexus 10 being put in a dock on a desk. Alongside a Nexus 4 and a couple of Nexus 7′s, the biggest Nexus was dropped right into this dock you see above to show off a Photo Sphere.

Thanks to the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, and the help of a few Googlers he got just what he wished for.

Unofficial VLC media player hits Android devices

VLC is the popular media players that can play almost any file format that you drop into it and is a must have for anyone that uses lots of video files on the computer.

Adridu59 from XDA Developer Forum has posted a working version of the VLC Player for Android and has now reached the beta stage. As of now the release is slated for only a few based processors: ARMv6/ARM11, ARMv7a/Cortex-A8/NEON and ARMv7a/Cortex-A9. And also made for Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich device only.

Due to large number of Android smartphone models, it is difficult to list down all. However, if your device are the high end smartphones that were released in last 12 months you can certainly try out the VLC for Android.

So, if you also have confused check it down even further, a common device list of supported devices includes:

Nokia N9 runs Ice Cream Sandwich – Android 4.0

Nokia may not provide the best developer support for its Nokia N9 smartphone, but somebody thought it could pull more apps and coders on Google’s Android operating system. Alexey Roslyakov (@drunkdebugger), the NITDroid project builds on earlier work porting Android to the Nokia N900, has returned with a video demo of Ice Cream Sandwich on the ordinarily MeeGo smartphone. However, he did not provide instructions on how to recreate the whole scenario for other N9 owners, which likely means it is still in early development stages.

Nokia N9 would be able to Dual Boot Android 4.0 and MeeGo Harmattan, you just hitting the volume key during boot stops MeeGo from running and instead brings up Android 4.0.3.

The Nokia N9 has almost similar internal hardware to the Samsung Galaxy S so it is likely that Android ICS will run smooth on the handset, though it seems getting the N9′s hardware to work with the functional Android kernel on the handset has caused the most headaches. There’s also ongoing issues with getting OpenGL to work, without which the whole thing is unusable.

How to easily unlock / lock Bootloader, root / unroot Verizon Galaxy Nexus in One-Click

While we’ve already published a post on how to install Android 4.0.2 with unlock bootloader, root and CWM on Galaxy Nexus, a new one click solution toolkit for modify the Samsung Nexus Galaxy has been released few days ago, named “Wug’s Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit“, that makes unlocking and rooting in easy way. However the toolkit only works for the Verizon version of the Galaxy Nexus, for GSM version will be included in a later update.

The one click solution toolkit has two functions:

Unlock Root +, which allows to obtain the release of the bootloader and gain root permissions.
Unroot + OEM Lock, which allows you to bring the smartphone to the stock version, eliminating the root or “re-lock” the bootloader.

One click solution toolkit features:
Drivers + SDK

install the latest samsung drivers
extract the latest android SDK to your %HOMEDRIVE% …along with the other necessary files for unlocking, rooting, flashing back to stock, and re-locking

[Video] ‘Ask Ziggy’ Windows Phone app aims to compete with Siri

The over-hyped technology in late 2011 it was perhaps Apple’s Siri, their voice recognition/information application for the iPhone 4s. So, if you are craving Siri like functionality for Windows Phone 7 platform, the Ask Ziggy app is answer that goes beyond Siri functionality.

The Ask Ziggy has developed by Shai Leib. It’s free (and even ad-free) program that can “translate human speech into transcribed text”. You can Call, Text, Email your contacts, Update Windows Live, Facebook, and Twitter, Get Weather, Stock Values, Flight Statuses, Get Ziggy to do Math, or ask any question you want all by speaking to your phone.

Just Ask Ziggy a question, and you will hear a response out loud. You can also click on your speech bubble to search the web directly for your question.

Here are some tips:

Directions – “Find” + [search word]. For Example. “Find Thai Food”, “Find Gas”, etc…

How to install Android 4.0.3 with Face Unlock on Nexus S

A few weeks ago, Google started to deliver the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system to Nexus S devices, but have some of the features is not available for the Nexus S, such as Face Unlock. However, the good guy has developed a custom ROM based on the Android 4.0.3 OS for the Nexus S that support Face Unlock, and also capability to both Nexus S 4G at Sprint, as well as to GSM Nexus S smartphones.

A guide for install the Nexus S to Android 4.0.3 with Face Unlock feature is allow only GSM Nexus S and your device should be rooted, ClockworkMod Recovery flashed and have enough space to contain the files you will be downloading.

Software requires:

Google’s Nexus S

Step for install Android 4.0.3 with Face Unlock on Nexus S:

Copy all .zip files to your sdcard.
Reboot you device to recovery mode (Press and hold Volume Down + Power buttons to boot into ClockworkMod Recovery).
Go to backup & restore > restore and take nandroid backup which might be useful for reverting back to your current set up.
Wipe everything data/factory reset and cache from the main menu.
Flash ROM: Go to Install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard > “AC-AOSP_i9020T_x.x_unsigned.zip”.
Flash gapps: choose “gapps_ics-12-24.zip”.
Flash Face Unlock: choose “FaceLock.zip”.
Reboot and enjoy.

It’s just a few weeks since hacker pod2g revealed his untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 devices. The exploit has been incorporated into redsn0w 0.9.10, the Pwnage Tool and Chronic Devteam’s Cydia package, and supports all devices with the exception of Apple A5-toting iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. That means the iPhone 4 GSM, iPhone 4 CDMA, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4th generation, and original iPad (iPad 1) will be getting in on the untethered action.

If you already have a tethered jailbreak on your iOS device, simply head to Cydia and install the Cydia package prepared by the chronic devteam called Corona Untether 5.0.1, your jailbreak will be untethered.

For those who are jailbreaking for the first time, here’s the step-by-step on how to untethered jailbreak your iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS running on iOS 5.0.1 using Redsn0w.

Download Redsn0w 0.9.10b2 for Windows from this link or Redsn0w 0.9.10b2 for Mac from this link.
Download the iOS 5.0.1 firmware file.
(Skip this step if you’re on iOS 5.0.1 already) Connect your iPhone to the computer, launch iTunes, select your iPhone and hold down Shift and click the Restore button. Select IPSW file to install IOS 5.0.1 to your device. Wait until installation process is complete.
Extract the Redsn0w zip file to the Redsn0w folder and launch the Redsn0w application (Windows 7 you may want to try running the redsn0w executable mode as an administrator).
Click on the “Jailbreak” button.
Turn off your IOS device and plug the device into the computer then click the Next button.
You will now need to put your device into the DFU mode. Redsn0w will now guide you through the steps to get into DFU mode. You can find more help with DFU mode below:
(a) Hold the Power button on iPhone down for 3 seconds.
(b) Now simultaneously hold the iPhone and keep the two buttons pressed for 10 seconds.
(c) Now release the Power button while keeping the Home button pressed until Redsn0w detects the device.
After that your device will now reboot, then RedSn0w will now prepare the jailbreak data.
Select Cydia from the list of options and click Next.
Your device will now be rebooted again and RedSn0w will begin uploading the new RAM Disk and Kernel.
When complete you will be notified that RedSn0w is done, your device will be jailbroken with Cydia.
