SAMSUNG A800 SECRET CODES
The universal unlock code is *2767*637# do this with out your sim in
By default, the firmware (software) for x600 only receives java
apps and other applications like stuff by serial port.
but even for it, you have to enable the serial port, which also
causes
the closing of all other ports, even the IrDA too :-( ..
well, guess what, i have very good news for you,
do you know, you can increase the sound level,
the sound level for tones, speaker fone, etc,
can be increase even then if it is at max (level 4)
you still can do it,
just follows the instructions!
HERE WE GO
Enter the following code:
*#8999*8378#
(You'll be shown menu, then ...)
then go to:
"H/W test"
then go to:
"Audio Settings"
then go to:
"Melody Gain"
There will you see a number.
there are five (5) Melody Levels" of it.
(and currently, you are at level 1 and after
pressing the "save" button, you will move to
level 2 and so on .........................)
you have to change the values of all the levels.
and as the resultant, it will give increase the
melody sound!, your tones will more louder,
even more louder then the max. ringing volume.
the level wise numbers are: (as its my setting :-) )
Melody Level 1: 13
Melody Level 2: 17
Melody Level 3: 18
Melody Level 4: 25
Melody Level 5: 31
you even can make your own combinations of level wise
sounding numbers that can change the sound level!.
if your combination cause more louder sound level,
then mine,
then do share it with the group! ... :-)
meanwhile, try my figured-out combination!

CAUTION
if anything goes wrong,
then you can apply the master reset code,
that will NOT delete anything, ANYTHING from your
cell fone, but set each and eveything to its
default/standard setting ...
(likes, factory settings :-) )
the master reset code is:
#*7728#

The code: *#8999*8378#
as i regarded it a informative code,
will tell you each and everything about your cell fone.
and in the "H/W test",
there are lot of other Audio settings,
each of them having five (5) levels,
you can change the combination, but before doing anything,
do write the defult number sequence to some place so that
you'll be then able to invert it again! .. :-) ...

*# 06 # Seriennummer/IMEI indicates (actually also a GSM is code - see further below)
-----------------------------------------------------
*# 0000 # SW version announcements (e.g. V3.42.1, 16-10-03, Nhl-10)
---------------------------------------------------------
*# 2820 # Bluetooth (BT) device address indicate
------------------------------------------------------------
xx # Directory quick access (xx = storage location and afterwards lozenge e.g. 24 #)

---------------------------------------------------
A/from key Short pressing for menu for switching between profiles
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Menu key Long pressing for "task manager" - switching between active programs (with "C" key programs can be terminated.)
------------------------------------------------------------------
Menu quick access Over in the menu e.g. to point 3.1 arrive simply 31 enter (if the third symbol a file is opened is for these and then in it started the first Programm/Icon).
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Autostart go around When switching on of the Handys on to the pin inquiry the key "ABC" (pin) comes the whole time keeps pressed - this is to ignore (allegedly) the autoinitialization programs.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
# Do not switch between different lines (AS)... goes e.g. with Austrian ONE Handys (see nose cunning). I could not try out however also, since I did not have 2 lines on the SIM map.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
12345 ... is according to standard set the Nokia nokia-Sicherheitscode.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
0000 ... is according to standard those (with Vodafone windshield frame section) set 2te pin and that standard net code/password
With D1 the standard net code is the last 4 numbers of the card number without HLR e.g. 99999234-5/55 - > 2345
------------------------------------------------------------------------
0 - for a long time press If one the "0" in the main menue for a long time presses those homepage of the standard WAP connection is called.
------------------------------------------------------
Caution - starting from here the codes are "dangerous"
*#7370925538#
* # of res wallet # ... is to be deleted the code around the "wallet"! Input like normal telephone number (not in wallet code inquiry windows).
NOTE! Afterwards the "wallet" is empty, can again be put on however with new code.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
*# 7780 # The "original attitudes" and telephone re-establishes is again started (an appropriate inquiry and it follow before must the sicherheitscode be entered).
NOTE! Afterwards various "attitudes" are away - among other things these:
·1 Points of entrance (Provider dependent points of entrance and attitudes)
·2 Bluetooth attitudes
·3 Favorite
·4 Allocation of the two keys (beside Navi keys) in the main menue
·5 Profiles are "neglected" (as with distribution) - still there however new bell tones, etc. are...
·6 SMS/MMS/E Mail attitudes
·7 Logos and spielstaende (allegedly) also deleted...
Programs, calendars and contacts, etc. not changed...
Also the sicherheitscode remains.
This putting back goes also via menu under "attitudes - general - original telephone once.".
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
*# 7370 # Soft format: If the Handy (only telephone memory) formats, puts back the attitudes (see * to # 7780 #) and implements a software RESET. (however still another inquiry comes before.)
NOTE! If the Akku to 75% are loaded at least, Akku do not only accomplish during the procedure under any circumstances remove! The procedure takes some minutes (approx. 3-4), is absolutely waiting!
This is "only" a soft format... Hard format with "green, 3, *"... see below.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Green, * 3 Hard format: If the Handy (only telephone memory) formats, puts back the attitudes (see * to # 7780 #) and implements a RESET.
NOTE! If the Akku to 75% are loaded at least, Akku do not only accomplish during the procedure under any circumstances remove! The procedure takes some minutes (approx. 3-4), is absolutely waiting!
Proceeding: Equipment switch off, which keep "green key" (take off) at the same time pressed, "*" and to "3" key and switch the equipment on (the keys thereby keep further pressed)... to "Formatting" on the display appears...
If that does not function, then equipment for 1 hour switch off, Akku so for a long time rausnehmen and again try.
"only" virtual the memory is generally cleared - genuine formatting can take place only in a Nokia service center, if the Fash is deleted there and/or new L.G. is installed.
---------------------------------------------------------
Mixed * # 92702689 #, then switch - system menu off (goes with me not)
The following code do not fold (with me also):
* EFR0 # (* 3370 #) EFR activate (EFR = Enhanced Full rate Coding - language optimization)
# EFR0 # (# 3370 #) EFR switch off
* HRC # (* 4720 #) HRC switch on (HRC = helped rate Coding - language compression)
# HRC0 # (# 4720 #) HRC switch off
----------------------------------------------------------------
SIM LOCK Simlock status query: (use "*" the key over "p,w" and "+" indications to enter)
# pw+ 1234567890 +1 # Provider LOCK status
# pw+ 1234567890 +2 # network LOCK status
# pw+ 1234567890 +3 # Country LOCK status
# pw+ 1234567890 +4 # Sim Card LOCK status
The code 1234567890 must be computed with a program e.g. SmartDCT4Calc and/or DCT 4 code Calculator from IMEI, etc....
Info. to Simlock: SIM LOCK makes it for the offerer/network carriers possible, subsidized (verguenstigte) Handys to offer. Thus one makes oneself if necessary punishable if one SIM LOCK deactivated - in addition the warranty can purged. I take over for it no adhesion or responsibility!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
GSM code ... should function at each Handy - however Netz(betreiber)abhaengig are... and "harmless"...
Generally applies: First enter code, "send" afterwards (< send green key > press) and one moment wait...
------------------------------------------------------------------
SMS Tipps To Tipps & cheat about SMS (with appropriate codes) are immediately in the FAQ list .
For example for the topic: SMS "retard" and/or deferred send, acknowledgment of receipt, reports...
----------------------------------------------------------------
Mark more simply To Tipps & cheat to the topic "mark" e.g. with SMS entrance.
Over simply to mark simply the "pin" (ABC key) hold some e.g. SMS and move then Jostick downward.
--------------------------------------------------------
Call number transmission * 31 # - { CLIR - Calling LINE identification Restriction switches on for the general call number transmission }
# 31 # - switch off the general call number transmission
# 31 # [ telephone number ] - with the next call suppress the own call number (thus temporary)
* 31 # [ telephone number ] - with the next call transfer own call number (thus temporary)
* # 31 # - status query (of call number transmission)
# 31 * [ telephone number ] - own call number show, although receiving station switched call number suppression on. (is not usually de-energised of the Netz(betreiber).)
* 30 # - switch { TIE-clip - Calling LINE identification presentation for the announcement on of the call number of the caller }
# 30 # - switch off
* # 30 # - status query
This also partly goes with 6600 via Men: Attitudes - calls - own No. send...
The following codes are not supported by most Netz(betreibern):
* # 76 # - announcement of the call number, under which one reached the calling (not its call number during rufumleitung!) { COLP - COonnected LINE identification presentation }
* 76 # - switch on
# 76 # - switch off
* # 77 # - announcement of the call number, under which the caller reached me (not my call number during rufumleitung meinerseits!) { COLR - COnnected LINE identification Restriction }
* 77 # - switch on
# 76 # - switch off
------------------------------------------------------------------------
This amazing new tool has the ability to jailbreak iOS 4.0 and 4.1 on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, the iPod Touch 3G and 4G and the iPad. If you have an iPhone 4 or 3GS and you are running iOS 4.1 on the new or old bootrom then the following step by step tutorial is all you need.
Steps To Jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 4 and 3GS with Limera1n:

1. The first thing that you have to do is download Limera1n. The link for this is http://www.limera1n.com/limera1n.exe

2. Once you have downloaded your tool the next thing you need to do is download and install iTunes 10.0.1

3. Next you need to connect your iPhone to your PC and start iTunes.

4. You need to ensure that your iPhone is running on stock iOS 4.0 or iOS 4.1. It is worth noting that if you have an unlocked iPhone do not under any circumstances upgrade to iOS 4.1 using iTunes. If you do it will upgrade your baseband to 05.14.02 on the iPhone 3GS and 2.10.04 on the iPhone 4. If you are using an iPhone 4 you can upgrade to iOS 4.1 without affecting your baseband by using TinyUmbrella.

5. Next you need to launch the Limera1n.exe file. The image below is what you should see.

6. You need to click on the make it ra1n button. When you do this Limera1n will automatically put your iPhone into recovery mode and you will see the image below.

7. While your iPhone is in recovery mode you will see the image below being displayed on your iPhone screen.

8. You need to now hold the Home+Power buttons on your iPhone and keep an eye on what the Limera1n tool is displaying.

9. When the release power button is displayed by Limera1n you can release the power button. Make sure that you keep holding the Home button though.

10. You need to keep holding the Home button until the Limera1n screen displays in DFU mode.

11. Once you have the image above you need to wait a couple of moments while Limera1n actually jailbreaks your device. When this has been completed you will see the following message being displayed.

12. You will also receive a message saying that your jailbreak has been completed. Next all you have to do is turn on your device and you will see that the Limera1n app has been installed on your iPhone. You can then launch this app and you will be able to install Cydia from here. Once Cydia has been installed successfully you will be able to remove the Limera1n app.

iPhone Secret Codes - Tips & Tricks

Yesterday, the blogosphere was abuzz with news that it was possible to unlock iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS without the need to jailbreak your iPhone.

When we first read about it, it seemed quite unbelievable, but various user reports, a video and confirmation from sites like Gizmodo seemed to suggest it works.

It was unbelievable because never in the history of the iPhone, unlocking an iPhone has been possible without hacking the device or using hardware such as GEVEY SIM. But based on comments from our wonderful readers and MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev team, it looks like the unlock is only temporary.

As MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev team points out: "it'll just relock again once a new TMSI is required (various normal network operations require TMSI refresh)". He goes on to add: "If you are successful at temporarily gaining network access, you'll lose it as soon as TMSI is refreshed (happens often). the TMSI refresh is a normal, regular action on the network (it's actually intended to protect you)." If you want to read more details about TMSI checkout this Wikipedia link.

So to summarize, though we have seen the video and heard reports that suggest the method works, we have not been able to confirm if the unlock is permanent. So don't fret if it doesn't work for you. We'll keep you posted if we have any further updates.

As one of our readers commented, the fact that someone figured out a way to unlock iPhone even temporarily using not so straight forward process is just beyond us.

[via @MuscleNerd]

How To Jailbreak iPad 1 Running iOS 5.0.1 Using Redsn0w

Here are some important points to note before you proceed.

This guide is meant for iPad 1. We will publish the guide for iPhone and iPod touch users shortly.

Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 only supports a tethered jailbreak, which means that you need to connect your iOS device to the computer on every reboot. However, you can always install SemiTether, which allows you to reboot your iOS device with some limitations.

Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 does not support iPad 2.

Please note that jailbreaking your iPad may void your warranty and hence proceed with caution and at your own risk.

Please do not forget to backup your iPad before you proceed. You can refer to this post for instructions on how to backup your iPad.

If you've jailbroken your iPad then you can use jailbreak apps such as AptBackup, PkgBackup or xBackup from Cydia to take a backup of all the jailbreak apps and tweaks so you can reinstall them easily after successfully jailbreaking your iPad rather then installing them individually. However, if you're moving from iOS 4.x to iOS 5, it may be a good idea to reinstall the jailbreak apps to avoid compatibility issues.

After the jailbreaking process is complete, do not forget to checkout our article on tips to keep your iPad secure.

Please ensure you are running latest version of iTunes i.e. iTunes 10.5 or later.

Known issue: iBooks keeps crashing after jailbreaking iPad using this method. Dev team is working hard to fix the issue.

You can follow these step-by-step instructions to jailbreak your iPad 1 (with the assumption that you've already updated your iPad to iOS 5.0.1):

Step 1: Download Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 for Windows from this link and Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 for Mac from this link and save the application in a folder named "Redsn0w" on your desktop.

Step 2: You need to download both the iOS 5 firmware file (use Firefox or Chrome to download the firmware file instead of using Internet Explorer or Safari):

iOS 5 firmware file for iPad 1 from this link (iPad1,1_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw)

Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 currently does not recognize iOS 5.0.1 firmware file, so the trick here is to point it to iOS 5 firmware file.

Step 3: Double click the Redsn0w zip file and extract the application to the Redsn0w folder and then launch the Redsn0w application.

Step 4: After launching Redsn0w, click on Extras, then click on Select IPSW. Here select the iOS 5 firmware file (iPad1,1_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw) that you had downloaded in step 2. You need to do this just once.

Windows 7 users should run the exe in Windows XP compatibility mode (right-click on the Redsn0w exe and select Properties, then select the Compatibility tab and select Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP). Windows XP and Windows 7 users should run Redsn0w as ‘Administrator’ (right-click on the Redsn0w exe and select 'Run as an Administrator').

Step 5: Click on the Jailbreak button.

Step 6: You will now be prompted to switch OFF your iPad and plug it to the computer. Follow the instructions and click on 'Next' to move to the next screen:

Step 7: You will now need to put your iPad into the DFU mode. Redsn0w will take you through the necessary steps:

(a) Hold the Power button on iPad down for 3 seconds:

(b) Now simultaneously hold the iPad and keep the two buttons pressed for 10 seconds:

(c) Now release the Power button while keeping the Home button pressed until Redsn0w detects the device:

Step 8: Your iPad should reboot now. Please remember to release the Home button.

Step 9: Redsn0w will now start preparing the jailbreak data.

Step 10: You will now be prompted to select the jailbreak options you would like. Make sure Cydia is selected and select 'Next' to continue.

Step 11: You iPad will be rebooted again and Redsn0w will now begin uploading the new RAM disk and kernel.

Step 12: You will now be notified once the jailbreaking process is complete. Click on the 'Finish' button to exit the application.

Step 13: Your iPad will reboot once again (which could take approximately 5 minutes). After it has rebooted, your iPad should be successfully jailbroken. You should find Cydia jailbreak app on your iPad’s home screen.

If you're new to the jailbreaking world and wondering what to do after jailbreaking your iPad, checkout our jailbreak apps category page to find out the apps you can install on your iPad using the Cydia app. Please note that some of the jailbreak apps and tweaks are still not compatible with iOS 5.0.1 so please be cautious while installing them.

Tethered Jailbreak:

Once Redsn0w has finished jailbreaking your iPad, you will need to boot it tethered, which means that if you need to reboot your iPad it will be stuck on the Apple logo. All you need to do is rerun Redsn0w and this time click on Extras and then click on Just boot from the list of options and follow the on screen instructions to reboot your iPad.
Semitethered Jailbreak:
You may install SemiTether hack, which allows users to reboot their tethered jailbroken iOS 5 device without the need to connect it to the computer but with some limitations. You can this post for all the details.

Troubleshooting:

How to fix the White/Blank Cydia icon issue:

If you notice the white Cydia icon (which fails to launch) after successfully jailbreaking your iPad. Then follow these steps to fix the issue.

Launch Redsn0w again.

Click on Extras and then click on Just Boot from the list of options.

You will now be prompted to plug your iPad to the computer and switch it off. Follow the instructions in the correct sequence and click on 'Next' to move to the next screen:

You will now need to put your iPad into the DFU mode. Redsn0w will take you through the necessary steps:

Hold the Power button on iPad down for 3 seconds.

Now simultaneously hold the iPad and keep the two buttons pressed for 10 seconds.

Now release the Power button while keeping the Home button pressed until Redsn0w detects the device.

Your device will reboot and you will see the Pwnage icon on your iPad's screen for few minutes.

After your iPad is successfully rebooted, you will see the regular Cydia icon (brown). You should now be able to launch Cydia without any issue.

Few days back, MuscleNerd - the most vocal member of the iPhone Dev team revealed that they're working on a promising unlocking solution for iPhone 4S.

MuscleNerd has just posted an update on the progress on Twitter.

MuscleNerd tweets:

iPhone4S baseband bootrom now dumped :)

Here's a tiny snippet: http://twitpic.com/7mg5hp ...but we'll be digging into the rest of it too! :)

iPhone 4S teardown had revealed that it comes with Qualcomm MDM6610 chipset, which is confirmed in the tiny snippet below:

The baseband bootrom (called "SecureROM" by Apple) is the first code that runs on the baseband processor in the internal ROM. It is read-only. It looks like Dev team has found an bootrom exploit, which is a huge achievement as Apple won't be able to fix it without a hardware revision.

The last time Apple had to do it was with iPhone 3GS. Back in October 2009, three months after iPhone 3GS was launched, Apple started shipping iPhone 3GS with new bootrom to prevent jailbreaking, which is the reason we keep talking about iPhone 3GS with old bootrom.

Since users will first need to jailbreak the iPhone to unlock it, it looks like Dev team is gearing up to launch a jailbreak and unlock for iPhone 4S. Let's hope that while the unlock will only be available for iPhone 4S users, it will at least support an untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS along with the iPads and iPod touches.

Chronic Dev Team has just published a blog post titled "Weapons of Mass Exploitation" in which they've given an update on the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 and also released a tool called C-Dev Reporter, which will enable iOS device users to send device crash reports to Chronic Dev team that could be helpful in finding new vulnerability in iOS.

Chronic Dev team have released greenpois0n, which was a popular jailbreak tool for iOS 4.2.1. Couple of months back they had announced that they had discovered 5 new vulnerabilities in iOS 5 beta and a recently a bug in iOS 5 that could help in developing an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.x.

Chronic Dev team has given the following update on the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5:

during my JailbreakCon talk in September, I was excited to announce that the Chronic Dev team had already discovered 5 different exploits for use in our upcoming jailbreak. Unfortunately, that announcement was a bit premature, because in the subsequent weeks, Apple found & patched a (critical) few of those exploits, between the beta versions we used for testing and the final release of iOS5 on October 12.

Sadly (and trust us, we are much more sad about this than any of you could possibly be), this has prevented us from being able to release a new jailbreak as quickly as we wanted to. As I hinted at earlier this week on Twitter, I was initially disheartened to think that so many of the countless hours we’ve worked on this jailbreak seemingly went right down the drain.

Not to mention, these are by no means the first exploits that have been “lost” by Chronic Dev (or any other iOS hacking teams) in this manner. In fact, these are just a few in a long-running series of exploits that were patched by Apple before we hackers could make use of them in a free jailbreak for you, our loyal fans.

Chronic Dev team goes on to explain the method Apple uses to find vulnerabilities:

One of the primary challenges in working with userland exploits is that, every time any program crashes on your iPhone, a “crash report” is generated and instantly sent back to Apple. As you can imagine, while we’re working out all the kinks in the exploitation of a vulnerability, we may need to crash any particular program thousands & thousands of times.

It’s possible to change your iTunes settings to stop sending this diagnostic information back to Apple, and of course everyone in Chronic Dev has made this change on all our development machines. However, even this is not always 100% effective at preventing Apple from obtaining our data. For instance, if one of us is at a friend’s house and plugs our iPhone up to his or her computer (even just to charge it), it’s very likely that computer is set up to send all our valuable data & crash reports right back to Apple.

Chronic Dev team have released a new tool called C-Dev Reporter, which uses a similar method to help find the vulnerabilities:

All this program requires from you is to attach your iOS device to your computer and click a single button!

At this point, the program copies all the crash reports off your device (which, under normal circumstances, would be sent right back to Apple), and instead sends this data to a secure, private server hosted by your friendly Chronic Dev team. Next, our program proceeds to neuter your copy of iTunes, simply by changing your settings to prevent your computer from sending any further diagnostic information from your device to Apple.

Using this agglomeration of your crash reports and our ninja skills, Chronic Dev will be able to quickly pinpoint vulnerabilities in various programs by using the same techniques Apple currently employs. At the very least, your data will help point us in the direction of which applications are the most vulnerable, so we can focus our time & energy on these with laser-like intensity. And, of course, this will also prevent Apple from accessing all your valuable data, just so they can then turn around and use it against you.

You can download C-Dev Reporter using this link. The idea of the new tool could help in identifying new vulnerabilities and in turn result in a jailbreak for future iOS software updates, but it appears to be a long term solution. The news should come as a disappointment to iOS device users who have been eagerly waiting for an untethered jailbreak and in case of iPhone 4S and iPad 2 users a jailbreak for iOS 5.

As of now, it looks like Dev team who have jailbroken iPhone 4S are the only hope when it comes to releasing to jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2.

Here's a quick description of the jailbreak tweak on Cydia:

Enable FaceTime over 3G ! With 1 click and no setup, you can get FaceTime running over 3G and use it anywhere you want. No more looking up for nearby WiFi connection to use FaceTime. – Just install and Respring. FaceTime will now also work when on 3G.

PhyScroll is a new jailbreak tweak that allows jailbroken iOS device users to use the volume button or the accelerometer to scroll.

The jailbreak tweak is developed by Pedro Franceschi.

Here's a quick description of the tweak in Cydia:

PhyScroll allows you to use your iPhone/iPod touch/iPad's accelerometer or volume buttons to scroll in iOS!

It works with any application! Download it, select the desired activation method going to Activator preferences (Settings -> Activator), open an app and activate PhyScroll. Then you just need to tilt the device/press the volume buttons to scroll!

You can change between the scrolling methods (accelerometer and/or volume buttons) in PhyScroll settings. The acceleration rate of the accelerometer scroll and the size of the volume scroll is also configurable.

If you are using iPad, you can enable manual scroll selection. This option will ask you in what scroll you want to activate PhyScroll, and it's useful for applications that have multiple scrolls, like most of the iPad apps.

You can checkout the jailbreak tweak in action in the demo video below:

PhyScroll is available in Cydia for $1.99.

Redsn0w Can Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 And SemiTether Also Works With iOS 5.0.1

Apple has also seeded iOS 5.0.1 to developers of iOS developer program, which includes fix for battery life issues, iPad 2 smart cover security flaw and adds the multitouch gestures for iPad 1.

The goods news is that iOS 5.0.1 can be jailbroken using Redsn0w that Dev team had released for iOS 5.

MuscleNerd tweeted:

Devs trying today's 5.0.1 beta can JB with existing redsn0whttp://is.gd/6eek4Y (but select the 5.0 IPSW thru GUI or command line)

Just like iOS 5.0, Redsn0w only supports a tethered jailbreak (except for iPhone 3GS with older bootrom) for iOS 5.0.1 and won't support iPad 2 or Apple's new iPhone 4S.

We are also hearing reports that the SemiTether hack, which allows users to reboot their tethered jailbroken iOS 5 device without the need to connect it to the computer, works with iOS 5.0.1.

Apple has stated that it will release iOS 5.0.1 in the next few weeks, but since it has already seeded developers with iOS 5.0.1, it is widely speculated that it could be released as early as this week.

[via @MuscleNerd]

Sn0wbreeze 2.8 Beta 10 To Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 Beta 2 For iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch Released

Dev team has provided the following details on their blog:

We’ve released version 0.9.9b6 of redsn0w, with both a functional fix and cosmetic fix for iOS5 jailbreakers. For iPhone3GS owners with the 06.15 baseband, this redsn0w eliminates the network crash you saw when using Location Services in iOS5 (in fact, you don’t even need to disable Location Services anymore during the initial setup). The cosmetic fix is to the visual countdown you see when going into DFU mode.

It’s okay to re-run this redsn0w over an existing device jailbroken at iOS5. Just choose “Jailbreak” again and de-select Cydia (in other words, all the checkboxes will be unchecked). If you are lucky enough to have an old-bootrom iPhone3GS, please pre-select the IPSW first (redsn0w can’t yet auto-detect the FW version of your old-bootrom 3GS if it’s already been jailbroken).

Redsn0w 0.9.9b6 supports the following iOS 5 devices:

iPod touch 3G

iPod touch 4G

iPad 1

iPhone 3GS

iPhone 4 (GSM)

Redsn0w 0.9.9b6 supports only a tethered jailbreak, except for iPhone 3GS with old bootrom which is untetherd. With a tethered jailbreak you need to connect your iOS device to the computer on every reboot. It still doesn't support iPad 2 and Apple's new iPhone 4S.

You can download Redsn0w 0.9.9b6 for Mac using this link and Windows using this link.

If you need help, you can checkout our step-by-step guide to jailbreak iOS 5:

Note: We'll update the tutorial to incorporate the changes included in Redsn0w 0.9.9b6.

If you've already jailbroken your iOS device running iOS 5 then all you need to do is rerun this version of Reds0w. As always, let us know how it goes and if it has fixed the issues with location services.

Dev team hasn't provided any update or ETA for the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 nor the fix for the iBooks issue.

[via Dev team's blog, Thanks Goranms for the heads up!]

How To Jailbreak iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS Without Updating Baseband Using Redsn0w For Mac Users [iOS 5]

In this guide, we will take you through the step by step procedure to jailbreak iPhone running iOS 5 without updating the baseband using Redsn0w.

Here are some important points to note before you proceed.

This guide is meant for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS users who are interested in unlocking their iPhone using Ultrasn0w - a software method. iPod touch 4G and iPod touch 3G users can checkout this guide, while iPad users can checkout this guide.

If you don't care about unlocking your iPhone and/or preserving the baseband then checkout this step-by-step guide.

This guide is meant only Mac users as Redsn0w with the PwnageTool functionality is only available for Mac users.

This guide is meant only for GSM iPhone users.

This guide is only applicable if you haven't upgraded to iOS 5.

Please go through our latest status update on jailbreaking iOS 5 to figure out if you should jailbreak iOS 5.

Redsn0w 0.9.9b6 only supports a tethered jailbreak, which means that you need to connect your iPhone to the computer on every reboot.

Please note that jailbreaking your iPhone may void your warranty and hence proceed with caution and at your own risk.

Please do not forget to backup your iPhone before you proceed. You can refer to this post for instructions on how to backup your iPhone.

If you've jailbroken your iPhone then you can use jailbreak apps such as AptBackup, PkgBackup or xBackup from Cydia to take a backup of all the jailbreak apps and tweaks so you can reinstall them easily after successfully jailbreaking your iPhone rather then installing them individually. However, since you're moving from iOS 4.x to iOS 5, it may be a good idea to reinstall the jailbreak apps to avoid compatibility issues.

After the jailbreaking process is complete, do not forget to checkout our article on tips to keep your iPhone secure.

You will be asked to setup your iPhone either from a previous backup or setup as a new iPhone, select the backup you want for your device (ideally should be the most recent one). Wait for iTunes to finish.

After this, you need to follow the instructions in our step-by-step guide to jailbreak your iPhone on iOS 5.

If you're new to the jailbreaking world and wondering what to do after jailbreaking your iPhone, checkout our jailbreak apps category page to find out the apps you can install on your iPhone using the Cydia app. Please note that some of the jailbreak apps and tweaks are still not compatible with iOS 5 so please be cautious while installing them.

Note: Once Redsn0w has finished jailbreaking your iPhone, you will need to boot it tethered, which means that if you need to reboot your iPhone it will be stuck on the Apple logo. All you need to do is rerun Redsn0w and this time click on Extras and then click on Just boot from the list of options and follow the on screen instructions to reboot your iPhone.

Troubleshooting:

How to fix the White/Blank Cydia icon issue:

If you notice the white Cydia icon (which fails to launch) after successfully jailbreaking your iPod touch. Then follow these steps to fix the issue.

Launch Redsn0w again.

Click on Extras and then click on Just Boot from the list of options.

You will now be prompted to plug your iPhone to the computer and switch it off. Follow the instructions in the correct sequence and click on 'Next' to move to the next screen:

You will now need to put your iPhone into the DFU mode. Redsn0w will take you through the necessary steps:

Hold the Power button on iPhone down for 3 seconds.

Now simultaneously hold the iPhone and keep the two buttons pressed for 10 seconds.

Now release the Power button while keeping the Home button pressed until Redsn0w detects the device.

Your device will reboot and you will see the Pwnage icon on your iPod touch's screen for few minutes.

After your iPhone is successfully rebooted, you will see the regular Cydia icon (brown). You should now be able to launch Cydia without any issue.

Hope this helped. Please don't forget to let us know how it goes in the comments and drop us a line if you hit any issues.

I currently have a T-Mobile phone, but it’s working like crap. I’m trying to get a new phone, but the new phone I want is an AT&T phone, I still have my T-Mobile Plan though.
Best answer:
Answer by Just Me
No. The only way to use the phone is if it is an unlocked GSM phone (one that takes a SIM card). There is a code that has to be used, and sometimes, even software has to be used to unlock the phone, depending on what the phone is. You can purchase an unlock code online from a reputable seller (there are many on Ebay, price varies according to phone), or you can purchase an already unlocked phone on Ebay.
Just like email has totally changed how we send our mail; so too has online fax totally changed how we send our faxes. Actually, the two are intertwined since with online or Internet fax we send our faxes as email attachments, usually in TIFF or PDF format. We simply use our email system and our Internet connection to send and receive all our faxes.
However, there is one other player in this whole scenario – your Internet fax service provider, who acts as an intermediary on your behalf. But first you have to sign up to a service provider where you will be given a local or Toll-Free fax number which you can give out to all your contacts.
This number works in the same way as a traditional fax number except all your faxes are handled online so there is no need for an extra fax phone line. You can still send a fax to and from the old fax machine in the office since, as mention before, your online service acts as your intermediary.
You are also given an online site (interface) where you can logon and view your faxes. This is where you can send and receive your faxes. Most services also let you send faxes directly through your email system and many also have desktop applications you can use.
Still the main question remains – how do I find a good quality online fax service?
Well, there are certain norms, or average standards you can expect from all these providers. Mainly, you have to look for a provider which has 24/7 customer service, runs around per month with approximately 300 total (incoming/outgoing combined pages) with extra pages going at 10 cents or less. You should note that some services charge per page, while others charge per minute and they assume that 1 page takes 1 minute or less to transmit. However times will vary depending on what your page contains, large graphics/files may take longer.
Ideally you will want a service with no start-up and no hidden fees. You should also look for a service with a 30 Day Free Trial so that you can thoroughly check out the quality of the service before you buy. Fortunately, most services do provide these free trials.
However, there are slight differences in the pricing and/or services so it definitely pays to shop around before you sign on the dotted line. Mainly because this is usually a long term business service and doing your homework now can save you big bucks over the long haul. In addition, if faxing plays a vital role in your company for acquiring sales, contacting or communicating with clients, then it is essential to find a good quality reliable service to take care of all your faxing needs. Pricing should be a consideration but your main goal should be to find a quality service with good 24/7 customer service that will quickly address any problems should they arise.
As more and more businesses switch over to online faxing or use it to supplement the old fax machine in the office; can you really afford not to get it? Can your business or company stay competitive in this dog-eat-dog economic climate is the real question you have to ask? When you consider Internet faxing is more convenient, more secure, more mobile and more environmentally friendly than the old traditional way of faxing, it really becomes a no-brainer. Just choose wisely when you go looking for your own online fax service.
BigBoss has released a new version of SemiTether (v0.91), which incorporates the new mobile substrate by Jay Freeman a.k.a saurik that should make the semi tethered mode more stable.

BigBoss writes:

v0.9.1 incorporates Saurik’s new mobile substrate. Thanks to Saurik, we are entirely rid of all the daemon patching – this means there’s no more daemon patching or restarting. Most the semi-tether work is now done by mobile substrate. The semitether package from the repository now protects your iOS 5 notification center plugins and gives you the option to patch mobile safari so that it will work on the non-jailbreak reboot mode. I’m still looking into patching mail, if possible.

Here's the list of changes in the updated version:

1) Much more stable with new mobile substrate 2) Can patch safari so it works in the non-jailbreak reboot mode 3) App to monitor the status of your semitether and reapply. Check after cydia installs.

Semi tethered mode will allow users, especially iPhone users who want to jailbreak their iPhone to at least use it for some of the basic functionalities of the iPhone and now even get to use mobile Safari, instead of the tethered mode where if you reboot the iPhone for any reason it is stuck at the Apple logo, until you don't tether it to the computer and use Redsn0w's Just Boot option. Here's a summary of what you can and cannot do in semi tethered mode with the latest update:

1) Can use phone, sms (text messages)

2) Can use every other stock app on iphone.

3) Can use other appstore web browsers such as atomic web browser

4) Cannot use mail app. You could install a gmail app from appstore or such instead.

5) You cannot use any jailbreak tweak, app, cydia until you boot tethered.

6) While in the semitether booted state, you should not add a jailbreak ios5 notification such as sbsettings to notifications during this state or your device will be stuck in a respring loop until you get home to “boot tethered”.

However a word of caution from BigBoss:

This new version will definitely solve all the flakiness problems we had in the past. However, be aware that this is a total rewrite of mobile substrate. Until this appears in a community source, you are beta testing so installing it is entirely at your own risk.

If you still want to give it a shot then checkout our post on How To Semi Untether Jailbreak iOS 5 Using SemiTether For iPhone, iPad And iPod Touch.
Please don't forget to let us know how it goes in the comments.

Couple of days back, iPhone hacker and developer - Steven Troughton-Smith along with chpwn (developer of jailbreak apps such as Infiniboard, Infinidock, Infinifolder, ProSwitcher, VoiceActivator) had figured out a way to get Siri working on a jailbroken iPhone 4 and iPod touch by bypassing the authentication issues.

This had raised hopes that they would eventually release the Siri port for non-iPhone 4S devices. But we have some bad news at least for the time being.

chpwn has just written a blog post to explain why they won't be able to distribute the port or the procedure they had used. He starts of by explaining the fundamentals of how copyright laws work:

Apple owns the copyright on the software, images, and data used inside iOS: they created them. Because of that, they have the ability to decide what other people can — are licensed to — do with them: copy, distribute, adapt, modify, or any number of other protections of their works. Pretty simple. But this does lead to one important, if somewhat counterintuitive, fact: just because a piece of data is available freely on the internet does not mean that you have the rights to redistribute that data (or any part of it) without an applicable license. In practice, that means that just because certain files are freely available on a device or inside a firmware (.ispw) file freely downloadable from Apple’s website, it does not imply that those files can legally be distributed by anyone else.

He then goes on to explain what does the copyright law mean in the case of enabling Siri on non-iPhone 4S devices:

In the context of Siri, this means that the resource files, images, and code that makes up Siri cannot be freely shared. These frameworks and plugins that work together to build Siri are not included on other iOS builds besides the ones running on the iPhone 4S. Therefore, these files must be copied from a running iPhone 4S, or from the iPhone 4S’s firmware (.ipsw) file. The first method requires you to own an iPhone 4S to copy the files from, so it is not useful for most people: if you already own an iPhone 4S, you already have Siri. The issue with the second method is more technical: the firmware files are distributed encrypted, and we do not yet have the decryption key to access the Siri files inside of the iPhone 4S firmware file.

Just from that, you currently must already own an iPhone 4S to install Siri on it without a blatant copyright violation. But even that’s not all: if you do all of that, there’s still a few more reasons why Siri won’t just work.

He also goes on to comment on people claiming that they have managed to port Siri on non-iPhone 4S devices:

Many people have managed to display the Siri UI on the iPhone 4; it is, in fact, reasonably trivial with access to the files copied off an iPhone 4S (as explained above). But only Steven and myself — yes, I know there are others that claim to have: I’ll tell you this, they haven’t ;) — have managed to make Siri successfully contact the Apple servers and receive responses. Why? Here, the answers become slightly more murky. Partially this is because I don’t want to reveal too much about the procedure to try and ensure that you all will be able to use it in the future, and partially because it requires a jailbroken iPhone 4S, something which is currently not publicly available. Anyway, the general gist of it is that you almost certainly need the access provided by the a jailbreak to extract all of the information necessary to get Siri working on another device, and that’s not yet availble. (And, no, I don’t know when it will be. You can follow along with me while we wait, though!)

But he goes on to explain that if they manage to decrypt the iPhone 4S files then Siri on non-iPhone 4S devices can become a reality:

Anyway, I hope that clears up some of the technical and legal reasons why distributing a build (or instructions) to run Siri on older hardware isn’t possible at the moment. When we have the ability to decrypt the encrypted iPhone 4S firmware file — to extract the Siri files legally, without the need for an iPhone 4S — and we have an iPhone 4S jailbreak to obtain the other nececssary information at a mass scale, hopefully this can become a reality and everyone can try out Siri on their older devices. Until then, showing you a video that it is possible is the best we can do.

iPhone Dev team have provided the following information on their blog:

redsn0w version 0.9.9b8 will natively recognize the 5.0.1 beta that Apple let developers start testing this week (so you don’t have to play the “point at 5.0 IPSW” trick). Because the IPSW isn’t public, you’ll still need to provide it once to redsn0w (at which point it will cache all the important pieces so you don’t need to select it again).

For those 3GS and i4 users who preserve their baseband, the Mac version can also produce the NO_BB_* custom IPSWs for 5.0.1. (But please note that ultrasn0w doesn’t get updated for betas like this.)

This is still a tethered jailbreak for all except old-bootrom 3GS users.

Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 supports the following iOS 5 devices:

iPod touch 3G

iPod touch 4G

iPad 1

iPhone 3GS

iPhone 4

Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 supports only a tethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 just like iOS 5, except for iPhone 3GS with old bootrom which is untetherd. It doesn't support iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. After developers have jailbroken their iOS device, they can use the SemiTether hack, which allows users to reboot their tethered jailbroken iOS 5 device without the need to connect it to the computer.

Developers can download the latest version of Redsn0w using this link for Mac and this one for Windows.

[via Dev Team's blog]

Sn0wbreeze 2.8 Beta 9 To Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 Beta For iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch Released; Fixes iBooks Crashing Issue

In case of iPhone, it also preserves the baseband from getting upgraded so that it can be unlocked using Ultrasn0w.

According to the release notes, Sn0wbreeze 2.8 beta 9 includes the following features:

Supports iOS 5.0 (9A334)/5.0.1-b1 (9A402)Fixed iBooks sandbox crashing issues.

The Kindle Fire theme is available on Cydia for $2.99, which we think is quite expensive for a theme.

Frankly, we also fail to understand why users want their iPhone to look like the cheaper Kindle Fire.

Let us know what you think about the theme in the comments.

[via iDB]
