User Story

<p style="font-style:italic;margin:0 16 0 16"">
"Too good to be true, just too good to be true. I have been an avid OneNote fan for years even though it lacked the integration and "anywhere" access that I needed. Business problems aside, my BIGGEST "personal use" problem has been my recipe collection. I am an avid cook who is often asked (or volunteers) to cook when I am traveling and/or people always want my recipes. The old AOL FTP space crudely filled this need but lately, I have been on a major quest to keep all of my recipes and tips in one place electronically and eventually publish. I gave up on expensive cookbook applications (they were either on-line or print only, not viewable both ways) and resorted to importing all of my recipes, including scans of my mother's invaluable handwritten recipes, into OneNote. I felt like I was wasting my time but at least I was on my way to getting them all in one place. This morning - on a whim - I checked the App Store with hopes that MS had finally produced an iPhone app for OneNote and found MobileNoter! Personally, I thought it had a snowballs chance in hell. No way!!! I cannot believe it! My entire cookbook (work in progress) is synced beautifully with my iPhone 3G! No way! No way No way! And wireless sync?? honestly?? No way! You rock - you absolutely ROCK! A 10 year old problem SOLVED and I am HAPPY HAPPY today! Apple owes you big time because now I'm asking Santa for an iPad!"

As you know MobileNoter was a good viewer of your OneNote notes, but this version is much more convenient for editing your notes and creating new ones.

In addition to the editing capabilities, advanced formatting and handwriting input, you can add voice comments to your notes the same way as it is done in OneNote. You can now record audio and continue typing or drawing during the recording and then transfer this recordings to your favorite OneNote. Easy and efficient!

Also, if you have audio or video files in OneNote notebooks, you can now play them on your mobile device using MobileNoter! iPhone version 2.3 with the same feature set is coming in a few weeks.More awesome functions are in the work including improved text editing mechanism, direct work with .one files, etc.

Development of the Android version is in progress; and the first beta version is expected before the end of this year. We will definitely let you once it goes live!

You requested - We did

We appreciate the feedback we are getting from our users. It is very important for us to know we are moving in the right direction and our product makes you happy. Thanks a lot!

My iPad came alive!

"I recently purchased this app and have to say, for me, it has brought the iPad alive! It's a great app and has made OneNote so much more useful.
I asked before the current version if I could use hand writing. At that time it wasn't possible for that version. But now you have added it. Wow, thanks for listening.
I had no problem syncing to my PC on wifi, very easy and straight forward.
Thank you so much for a great and useful app,"

Mark

Great idea, excellent execution, their future plans look great.

<p style="font-style:italic;margin:0 16 0 16"">
"First, OneNote is the greatest and most useful program on my computer. It has its hands in everything. I don't need fancy formatting crap and tables and powerpoints. I need a way to gather huge amounts of information, images, links, and more - and OneNote does that and more.
OneNote iPad = whole new world.
Mobilenoter allows that to happen. They have made huge strides with 2.0 and on their site they discuss the plans for 3.0 which would use the .one file format and allow the use of sites like Dropbox, Box.net, Skydrive, Google Drive, and more.
They still have a lot of room for improvement, but when a program is already quite good and still has definite room for improvement, that's a good thing."

Roderic Rinehart

We welcome you to try the new advanced version of MobileNoter and start using your iPad in a new amazingly beneficial way!

<a10:updated>2010-10-22T06:54:36-07:00</a10:updated>

MobileNoter 1.3 and MobileNoter for iPad

User story

“As a Business development consultant in technical products, I have to keep track of many tasks related to technical questions or contact management. Starting 15 years ago, I tried many applications , from the good (ACT) to the bad (Microsoft BCM). One year ago I started using one note and it has been very successful. Basically I have one page and subpage for each customer or product. I find the tag system unusable, so I create Outlook tasks from inside OneNote. On one side there is a formal list of TTD on Outlook and an immediate link to a free form page containing e-mail clip, picture, maps, comments.... My whole business (Plus all other personal projects) is there.

It works very well but it relies on having my tablet activated. Often I am asked a question while on the road or at the airport or in the company corridors; between the hundreds of facts and old age creeping in, most of the time I cannot remember what I said to whom.

With MobileNoter ALL is immediately accessible; most of the time I only need to look at the page to jog my memory, but I can also pass around a picture or graph.
I have always stuck to Microsoft products, not because they are better but I can do without the trouble of making the incompatible work together, however, I thought that MobileNoter was important enough to switch to an iPhone and the resultant Apple software aggravation
”

JF Ferrary

Want to share your story? Feel free to email to support@mobilenoter. com.

MobileNoter 1.3

MobileNoter 1.3 has been released and is available for download at the App Store!

Starting from this moment, users, who have subscribed for the Cloud Edition, can use Wi-Fi synchronization for free (during their subscription). That might be useful for those, who have large amount of OneNote data; they can sync it quickly at home using the Wi-Fi sync.

Other features/changes that are part of MobileNoter 1.3:

One of the main changes in the MobileNoter 1.3 is that we’ve managed to remove the 5Mb limit on a page size.
More info is posted on our blog.

Cloud storage size for an individual user is increased to 300Mb (was 100Mb). Now you can store three times more data than earlier!

(Wi-Fi Edition) it is possible to explicitly specify your PC name or IP address when pairing iPhone with PC. That’s an option for those, who can’t/don’t want to use Bonjour.

More detailed information is shown during synchronization.

Bug fixes.

Two important notes:

Now we have a single application, which combines the power of both editions. Users of Wi-Fi Edition should download the application called “MobileNoter” (it was the application for Cloud Edition only earlier).

Version 1.3 is not compatible with version 1.2. So you have to update all MobileNoter applications you use.

One more application in the MobileNoter family

We are happy to announce that in addition to iPhone and iPod Touch, MobileNoter is now supported on the new device from Apple — Apple iPad. The application is absolutely free for existing customers. The iPad application mirrors functionality of
the iPhone application, but designed for a larger screen size.

We receive a lot of feedback from you including bug reports, feature requests and so on. But some people even write short stories about the way they use MobileNoter and how it helps them in everyday life. We appreciate this very much and want to share these stories with everyone.

User story

Microsoft OneNote is an amazing product. The Windows Tech guy Paul Thurrott recently mentioned that his sources inside Microsoft expect OneNote to become the “always open, center of my world” application right next to Outlook for the majority of business users. I can wholeheartedly subscribe to this notion.

My number one personal [MobileNoter] use case are conference calls in the middle of the night. Due to time zone differences, I find myself often at 1-3 AM in the morning talking to colleagues on the other side of the planet. That then happens in our kitchen and I do not really need my notebook, but sure do need to note some keywords / action items. For this MobileNoter is perfect. Since the iPhone allows the use of application during phone calls, I simply create a new Quick Note once the call started and jot away whenever I need to remember something or have an action to take.

In the morning, back at the office those notes show up automatically in my OneNote and I copy & paste them in the appropriate project sheets, meeting notes and create to-do’s (usually takes less than a minute).

I see myself using MobileNoter even more once the iPad and the respective MobileNoter version are available (e.g. in meetings, customer visits). Those scenarios work well with the iPhone but a bigger screen estate wouldn’t hurt.

MobileNoter is one of the central apps on my iPhone.

Sven Semmler.

See the full version on http://semmler.tumblr.com/post/410421869/mobilenoter.

If you want to share your story too, feel free to send it to support@mobilenoter.com. We'll publish it in the next newsletter or on the website.

Future releases of MobileNoter

Large number of people ask us about the future of MobileNoter, what is coming next.
Ok, we're ready to share some info: nearest release of the iPhone app will be version 1.3 and we anticipate it to be available in App Store in the end of March/beginning of April.
The main change is that we are merging two separate applications into one. This will automatically remove the dilemma which one to install. And yes, there will be no 5Mb page size limit!

Also we are often asked if it will be possible to edit existing notebooks from OneNote. Yes, it definitely will. MobileNoter 2.0 is going to be ready in the beginning of the summer, but we think of launching the public beta-test a bit earlier.

More info on this topic on our blog - http://www.mobilenoter.com/Blog/post/2010/02/23/MobileNoter-Roadmap-Overview-of-Upcoming-Versions.aspx.

Encryption: how it protects your data

If you are not interested in the information about data security, you may skip this paragraph. But if you care you might be interested to know that:

All traffic between “MobileNoter Windows Sync Client” and the server is transmitted via a secure HTTP channel (SSL Encryption). This ensures that no one can intercept your data when it is being transmitted. This also provides very high level of security that is enough for most of our users.

In addition to the secure channel, MobileNoter has an option to encrypt user’s data with a user-defined key. Data is encrypted on a Windows PC before it is transmitted to the server and later decrypted on iPhone when it is received (and vice versa). This means that your data is transferred through network and stored on the MobileNoter server in the encrypted form and no one can decrypt without the key (that only you know).

We suggest turning on encryption if you have sensitive data in your notebooks.

Don't forget your password! Without the password nobody will have access to the encrypted data (including you).

We are glad to announce that MobileNoter Windows Sync Client is now officially declared compatible with Windows 7

“Compatible with Windows 7” software:

Is tested for compatibility and reliability on Windows 7.

Passed Microsoft designed tests to minimize the possibility of crashes, hangs, and reboots.

Represents a commitment that the product will continue to work over the life of Windows 7.

Meets privacy standards set forth by the Anti-Spyware Coalition.

Installs cleanly and reliably.

Eliminates unnecessary reboots.

Ensures compatibility with Windows 7, both 32-bit and 64-bit editions.
