HTC is to hold one of its Meet HTC events for the public in London on 1 September, Pocket-lint has discovered after surreptitiously stumbling across the announcement on the company's Facebook page.

“It’s been a while since we last met, so we thought that we’d invite you to come party - and most importantly see what’s next. There will be the usual food, drinks, music and a few phone treats for you to enjoy,” HTC announced on Facebook.

“It would be great to see you. If you’re planning on attending, please RSVP to let us know. Just remember that it’s an event for people over 18 and it’s on a first come, first served basis.”

And 1 September is also the date that we’ve learnt that Microsoft will start to roll out the new Windows Phone 7 Mango update.

Facebook Update 2.0.0.45 for BlackBerry Fixes Freezing Issues

An update to the RIM client which bumps the version number to 2.0.0.45 which fixes two issues that made the software almost unusable.

It took RIM and Facebook several more days to update the BlackBerry version of its mobile application, though iPhone and Android users received their updates more than a week ago.

The refresh is available for free and it will iron out glitches with the application freezing and the News Feed not refreshing. With the latest version, the developers promise to fix two critical issues such as the freezing issues and another News Feed related problem.

According to RIM, the update does not bring any new features, instead it addresses the issue of the application freezing and the News Feed not refreshing.

BlackBerry users who already updated their Facebook application sent positive feedback, which means that Facebook got it right this time.

Vodafone has begun taking pre-orders for Samsung's Galaxy S II Android smartphone. Running on the Telstra Next G® network, the GALAXY S II will set new benchmarks for mobile internet speeds in Australia.

The smartphone was put on pre-order on the $59 Freedom Connect Plan, with a $20 per month repayment in tow (a total minimum cost of $1896).

“Pre-ordering this device on a Freedom Connect Plan before midnight on Friday 22 July, will result in your account being activated on Saturday 23 July. This means that during your first month of your plan term you will not have a full billing month to use your included allowances,” Telstra explains.

The device comes with a fast dual-core application processor, with each core clocked in at 1.2GHz, and that it also sports a 4.3-inch touchscreen display.

DROID 3 at Amazon Now for Only $69.99

The Motorola Droid 3, one of the most expected Android handsets hitting Verizon stores at this time of year, was launched last week on July 7. The DROID 3 was added to Verizon's offering with a price tag of $199 attached to it with the signing of a two-year contract agreement, and already tasted price drops.

The Motorola Photon 4G for Sprint has seen price cuts as well, although it is only in the pre-sales period at the moment, and should arrive on shelves on July 31st.

With the new operating system version, devs will enjoy new API changes. Android 3.2 brings the API level up to 13.

Here are some of the highlights of Android 3.2:

Optimizations for a wider range of tablets. A variety of refinements across the system ensure a great user experience on a wider range of tablet devices.
Compatibility zoom for fixed-sized apps. A new compatibility display mode gives users a new way to view these apps on larger devices. The mode provides a pixel-scaled alternative to the standard UI stretching, for apps that are not designed to run on larger screen sizes.
Media sync from SD card. On devices that support a removable SD card, users can now load media files directly from the SD card to apps that use them.
Extended screen support API. For developers who want more precise control over their UI across the range of Android-powered devices, the platform’s screen support API is extended with new resource qualifiers and manifest attributes, to also allow targeting screens by their dimensions.

In addition to announcing the new platform release, Google also revealed that a new version of the SDK Tools was made available for download, r12, along with an updated Eclipse plug-in (ADT 12).

HTC ChaCha and Salsa Available Now at Vodafone Australia

HTC has launched FB phones Salsa and ChaCha with Vodafone in Australia. Both the smartphones come with a dedicated Facebook button and integrate its functionality deeply in the device.

The two phones, both of which run Google’s open source mobile operating system Android 2.3 Gingerbread, will bolster the telco’s Android line-up in the face of increasing competition from the likes of Telstra.

The HTC ChaCha was listed here for $0 upfront on the $45 Per month plan at Vodafone, with a minimum cost over 24 months of $1080.

The HTC Salsa can be found at Vodafone here, featuring the same price tag when committing to a contract agreement with the wireless carrier.

“The HTC ChaCha and HTC Salsa smartphones make it simple to stay in touch with your friends using Facebook Chat and Messages on your phone,” Vodafone explains. “Your Facebook messages and conversations are integrated within your phone and appear within your text and email inboxes alongside your regular conversations.” .

The ChaCha boasts a 800MHz processor, 5MP camera, 2.6″ touch display and the HTC Sense overlay, while the Salsa is the more powerful counterpart, boasting the same 800MHz processor and 5MP camera but also featuring a microSD slot and a larger 3.4″ touch display.

A new firmware for the Nokia N97 mini, version 30.0.004, is now available OTA (17MB) or via Nokia Software Updater. The new software update for the Nokia N97 mini brings forth a wide range of enhancements, it seems, along with updated applications and a series of performance improvements.

The software update is said to be part of the set of upgrades that Nokia announced last week for its Symbial 3.2 and 5.0 devices, and brings the the browser up to the same version as in Symbian Anna, while updating the Maps to 3.6 and offering a range of other enhancements as well.

Orange UK will soon start selling two Android smartphones. Orange doesn’t say when exactly this dual-core, Gingerbread-flavored beast will be available, but it should happen in early July.

The HTC Sensation is one of the most powerful mobile phones available on the market at the moment, courtesy of its 1.2GHz application processor, complemented by 768MB or RAM.

“Awaken your senses with the HTC Sensation. Twitter for Blackberry App Beta Version 2.0 Updated

RIM has announced that Twitter for BlackBerry version 2.0 beta has been updated in the Beta Zone. The software comes from Research In Motion themselves, and was meant to provide users with a better experience while accessing the microblogging site from their BlackBerry devices.

Some of the changes with this update include :

Color Refresh – featuring a lighter color scheme
Compose a Tweet – the Tweet composer is “hidden” from the Home timeline but accessible from the new Compose Tweet bar located below the navigation bar
Trending Topics with local trends support – a Trending Topics icon has been added to the nav bar and now includes local trends support
My Profile – Now users can access their profile quickly and easily from the nav bar (or the Menu)
Performance Enhancements to improve the overall usability of the app

The Huawei U6150 and the LG Optimus 2X are now available at WIND Mobile. While the LG Optimus 2X can be purchased for $445 off-contract or as low as $295 on WINDtab, the Huawei U6150 is available for a mere $98 or free on WINDtab.

The LG Optimus 2X has a 4-inch 480×800 capacitive touchscreen with Gorilla Glass, a dual-core 1 GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, an 8 MP autofocus rear camera with LED flash and 1080p HD video recording, a secondary front-facing 1.3 MP camera, 8 GB of internal storage space, microSD card support, 512 MB of RAM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, GPS, and a 1500 mAh battery.

ZTE Skate released in France for Under €200 in July

ZTE Skate is a phone Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread with a 4.3 inch screen. It will be released in France this summer for less than 200 € free subscription.

ZTE officially announced the Skate in France yesterday, and it seems like our previous price estimate (€250 in Greece) was higher than what the device will actually end up selling for – less than €200, according to ZTE’s French office.

Although cheap, the handset does feature a series of high-end features, including the Qualcomm MSM7227 application processor, clocked in at 800 Mhz and complemented by an Adreno 200 GPU.

Dell have confirmed that their new Dell Streak 10 Pro Android based tablet will be arriving in China during the Summer. Dell has also said that they will “evaluate other regions and segments in the second half of 2011.”

The Streak 10 Pro, as it'll officially be known, comes with a Honeycomb-standard 1280 x 800 resolution screen, an edge-to-edge glass surface, two cameras (one of them reaching a 5 megapixel res), an SD card slot, a thickness of 12mm, and 1080p video playback capabilities courtesy of an unspecified NVIDIA Tegra dual-core processor.

Apparently, the company is seeing increasing adoption on the Chinese market, where they are number 2 on the computer market, with their mobility products representing an important aspect of the business.

“Offering an Android 10” tablet in these markets at a later date allows developers more time to create robust apps, particularly for mobile professionals. It also allows more time for companies developing services and solutions to optimize their product for Android,” the blog post notes.

Motorola XPRT Available Now at Sprint for $130

Sprint Sunday released the Motorola XPRT, the front facing qwerty Android handset, with world phone capabilities.

As of June 5th, the Motorola XPRT is available at Sprint with a price tag of $129.99 attached to it, with the signing of a two-year contract agreement.

“The Motorola XPRT is a productivity powerhouse. It’s part business, part casual and all smartphone,” the wireless carrier notes on its website. “With its sleek, compact design and optimized keyboard layout, it’s perfect for tackling your busy day and getting the most out of your time, whether staying productive at work or managing your personal life.”

   The phone has a 1Ghz processor under the hood and a 3.1 inch touchscreen above the QWERTY keyboard. A 5MP camera with dual LED flash is on the back, and inside there’s a monster 1860mAh battery that should keep you productive all day.

There’s also many corporate-centric features such as 256-AES encryption and corporate email options. It’s currently only running Android 2.2, but hopefully an upgrade to Gingerbread is coming sometime this summer.

Other specs of this device would include a 3.5mm headphone jack, along with built-in GPS receiver, and a 1860 mAh Li Ion battery. The Motorola XPRT measures 60.9 x 120.4 x 12.95 mm and weighs in at 145 grams.

Telstra to update Motorola Xoom to Android 3.1 in July

Telstra has announced that it will bring Android 3.1 to the Motorola Xoom in July, enabling the microSD card reader along the way.

The software update puts Australia ahead of the US and Europe, which, although they received their 3.1 updates prior to Australia, still have non-functioning microSD card readers.

Some of the main changes the new OS version brings would include:

    - Full support for the final release of Adobe Flash Player 10.3, delivering significant performance enhancements when viewing rich Flash content on the web.

    - Resizable widgets to enable further customization of home screens.

    - The MicroSD card reader activation enabling customers to play apps and media from MicroSD cards.

    - Support for USB-connected peripherals and accessories, such as keyboards, mice, game controllers and digital cameras.

    - Expanded Bluetooth features to support Bluetooth headsets in Google Talk video chats and Bluetooth mouse support in addition to additional shortcut keys with the Bluetooth keyboard.

    - Picture Transfer Protocol Feature support to enable easier transfer of photo files to your PC without the need for drivers.

    - A file manager app allowing you to easily navigate through your storage.

Android 3.1's headline updates include resizeable widgets, Bluetooth headset support in Google Talk, Bluetooth mouse support, full support for Adobe's Flash Player 10.3 and USB host support, allowing the Xoom to communicate properly with USB mice, keyboards, storage, digital cameras and more.

Telstra plans on making the software available for its customers in July, but it should start testing it as soon as next week.
