This is the Samsung Omnia 2. It runs on Windows Mobile PPC 6.1 (it can be upgraded to 6.5). Has a 3.7 inch Amoled screen which is very good. Resistive screen. A 5mp Auto-Focus camera with LED flash, which is better than the Samsung Galaxy S. A dual stereo speakers at the back of the handset great for listening to music. It has a Micro SD charging port, a lock key, a 3.5mm jock which you use for your earphone plug, a camera key, you can see all these on sides of the handset.

What is great about this is that the screen is resistive, its a TouchWiz 2.0 running along side Windows Mobile 6.5 which is usually not the case with smartphones. Which is very impressive. With the texting part it's also great because it is accelerometer which is nice because gives you ease when creating a message, and the display is good the buttons are nice just the right size to hit the correct keys. A good virtual QWERTY keyboard.

This is also packed with all the office applications like Exel, Word, Powerpoint so it is very neat to have that on your phone.

Advanced Metamaterial lens

Metamaterials is whats used in this advanced type of lens. It is made using a class of man-made substances called metamaterials. It may eventually become a replacement for conventional lens, by combining sharper images with a 180-degree wide angle field of view.

"Radar systems and camera systems -even simple personal camera systems have the potential to benefit from a lens design similar to what we have shown,"said Nathan Kundtz, an electrical and computer engineer at Duke University.

Metamaterials represent a combination of materials that create new effects not normally seen in the natural world. The metamaterial lens measures just 4 inches by 5 inches with less than an inch height, and consists of 1,000 pieces of fiberglass materials etched with copper. The pieces sit in a parallel rows that can precisely direct passing electromagnetic rays - in this case microwaves.

Researchers at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina used the metamaterials to recreate the effect of a spherical Gradient index (GRIN) lens, which uses ball shape to continually bend the path of passing light or other electromagnetic waves.

"Instead of using the surfaces of the lens to control rays, we studied altering the material between the surfaces," Kundtz said. "If you can control the volume, or bulk, of the lens, you gain much more freedom and control to design a lens to meet specific needs."

A GRIN lens can eliminate the image distortions that arise from other lens shapes that only bend the path of light where it enters and exits the lens. But its spherical shape creates images that are incompatible with the flat detectos arrays used in digital cameras and many imaging devices.

By contrast, the new metamaterial lens may work in such devices because it creates a flat image. David Smith, head of the Duke University lab responsible for the recent breakthrough, described the new lens as "GRIN on steroids."

The Duke University researchers previously used a similar metamaterial approach to demonstrate "invisibility cloak" that could deflect microwaves. But unlike the cloaking method, the team's new lens could soon find its way into consumer's hands.

Italian prosecutors seek jail for Google execs

Italian prosecutors sought six-month to a year sentences for four Google executives Wednesday over an Internet video showing the bullying of a teenager with Down's Syndrome, the company said.

Google strongly denounced the case in a statement, calling it "a direct attack on a free, open Internet."

The four executives have been on trial in a Milan court over the video, which prosecutors argue Google had a legal responsibility to prevent being shown.

In the video, uploaded using a Google video site where it remained for nearly two months in late 2006, the teenager was bullied by four students in front of more than a dozen others who did not intervene.

"One year has been requested for three executives," a Google Italy spokeswoman said, adding six months had been urged for the fourth company official on trial.

Defence lawyers will lay out their arguments at a hearing set for December 16, with a date for the verdict expected to be set afterward. Wednesday's hearing was closed to the public.

The maximum sentence for such charges -- complicity in defamation and harm to private life -- is three years in prison.

The Google executives on trial are David Carl Drummond, the head of Google Italy's managing board at the time; George De Los Reyes, a board member who has since quit; Peter Fleitcher, in charge of privacy protection in Europe; and Arvind Desikan, head of videos for Europe.

Prosecutors sought the six-month sentence for Desikan.

Google said in its statement that "we did exactly what is required under European and Italian law."

"We took the video down when notified by the authorities and, thanks to our cooperation, the bullies who recorded and uploaded it have been identified and punished," it said.

The company said the case would be similar to prosecuting postal workers for distributing letters containing "hate speech."

Prosecutors said the trial was "not about Internet freedom, but whether or not a free zone exists where laws do not apply," according to elements of their argument reported by Italian media.

Astronaut's wait over as daughter born back home

Astronaut Randolph Bresnik is a new dad again, after launching into space and taking a spacewalk, all the for first time.
He announced the birth of his daughter, Abigail, on Sunday morning on NASA's airwaves.

His wife, Rebecca, gave birth to their second child back home in Houston on Saturday at 11:04 p.m. Central Time. They have a 3-year-old son, adopted from Ukraine.
Bresnik said both mama and baby are doing very well.
"Very thankful for everyone there at Mission Control and everywhere else at NASA that's been so supportive and essentially so helpful the last couple days with everything that's been going on," he said.
Mission Control responded with "heartfelt congratulations."

"Thanks for recognizing the significant accomplishments on Earth that happened while you guys were working hard on your challenging mission in orbit," Mission Control said.

The 42-year-old Marine installed antennas and other equipment outside the International Space Station on Saturday, while eagerly awaiting his daughter's birth. Mrs. Bresnik was due to deliver Friday, but the day came and went, as did most of the next. The astronaut received the news privately in orbit.
Mrs. Bresnik, an attorney who specializes in international law at Johnson Space Center, said before the flight that she was "a little disappointed" her husband would not be present for the birth, but understood.
"We don't choose the timing," she said in an interview that was broadcast by NASA following the birth announcement. "He's trained one year for this mission but really he's been here five, almost six years. I'm just really excited for him and excited for us."

She said their son is eager to be a big brother.
This is only the second time a NASA astronaut has become a new father while in orbit. In 2004, space station resident Mike Fincke welcomed the birth of his second child, also a girl.
The shuttle astronauts were awakened Sunday by the song "Butterfly Kisses." Mrs. Bresnik chose it for her husband. Among the lyrics: "There's two things I know for sure/She was sent here from heaven and she's daddy's little girl."

Sunday was mostly a day off for the seven shuttle fliers and five space station residents, giving Bresnik time to savor the baby experience. He will venture back out on another spacewalk Monday.
Atlantis will remain docked at the space station until Wednesday. The shuttle will return to Earth on Friday. Mrs. Bresnik will not be on hand for the touchdown.
