iBall’s Slide Q9703 launched with a 9.7-inch HD IPS display for Rs. 15,999

Let me start-off by saying that I am equally surprised and shocked as much as you all are, to see iBall launching such a highly powered tablet.

The iBall Slide Q9703 comes with a 9.7-inch HD IPS display boasting a staggering 2048 x 1536 pixels and 264ppi pixel density, which is at par to that of iPad 4 though priced merely at Rs 15,990.

This high-res display is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor alongside octa-core GPU coupled with 2GB of RAM. iBall claims the tablet supports 4K video playback. The power-hogger will be powered by a 8000mAh battery. Sadly, the tablet comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. We hope the company provides a future software update to 4.2.

Idea launches Dual-SIM 3G Android smartphones ID 920 for Rs. 4,950 and Aurus III for Rs. 6,990

Mumbai: Idea Cellular has launched two new Dual-SIM 3G smartphones in the market, an entry-level Android 2.3 device called ‘Idea ID 920’ and higher-end Android 4.1 Jelly Bean device called ‘Idea Aurus III’. Both are manufactured by Alcatel and priced at Rs. 4,950 and Rs. 6,990 respectively.

Keeping in mind the requirements of the fast evolving Indian consumer in the light of the ongoing mobile broadband revolution, the new 3G smartphones from Idea are priced affordably to upgrade existing 2G users to 3G. Device plays an important role in establishing data experience for the user, but currently 3G smartphones are priced relatively high in the Indian market. Idea is bridging this gap by bringing low-cost devices with high-end features to proliferate 3G among all segments of users.

Idea ID 920

Idea ID 920 runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread powered by a 1GHz processor coupled with 512 MB RAM. A 3.5” (320 x 480 pixels) TFT screen, 2 MP camera, 1400mAh battery and a 2GB memory card with expandable memory up to 32 GB are the important features for the device. The ID 920 will come only in one color – dark blue. It should be noted that Idea won’t be providing any software updates for this device in the future.

On a more positive note, the Idea Aurus III runs on Android Jelly Bean v 4.1 powered with the same 1Ghz processor and 512 MB RAM. A 4 inch (480 x 800 pixels) resolution screen, a 5MP camera with fix-focus, front facing camera for video calling and an internal memory of a 4GB are the important features of Aurus III. It will be available in two colors – White and Black. Again, Idea won’t be providing any software updates for this device in the future.

For a pack of Rs. 261, ID 920 and Aurus III users can get 1GB and 1.6 GB of 3G data, respectively, and Idea TV subscription free for the first 3 months. The 3G pack is available along with the smartphones in all Idea 3G circles. In the rest of the country, smartphone users can opt for attractive 2G data pack offering unlimited 2G data for Rs. 261.

The new 3G smartphones from Idea are available at all major mobile retail stores and Idea outlets across the country.

Meet ‘Itsdagram’: The only fully featured Instagram client on Windows Phone 8

Windows Phone 8 users have long been sobbing about the absence of an Instagram App. Well, somethings better than nothing. Meet ‘Itsdagram’, the unofficial Instagram client for Windows Phone 8. This app allows users to do everything a real Instagram app would.

Itsdagram is currently only for Windows Phone 8 users. It’s available in the market right now with a free trial and the full purchase is for $1.49. Windows Phone Central reports that a free, ad supported version should be coming in the next week.

Panasonic launches quad-core based P51 smartphone for Rs.26,900

As we had informed you earlier, Panasonic has re-entered the Indian market with the launch of ‘P51’ Android smartphone. It’s the first in a series of phones that Panasonic will be launching for India. The P51 is priced at Rs. 26,900, which is incidentally near to the pricing of Nexus 4. The P51 will be available from retail chain stores, multi-brand outlets and distributors across India starting from next week.

Daizo Ito, President, Panasonic India said,

“Panasonic has a great legacy of being the pioneers of innovation in every segment. Continuing with our legacy, we are now launching our innovative smart-phone which will redefine the Indian smart-phone consumer experience. India has always been one of our alpha markets in the region and I take great pride in introducing our smart-phone to India. The company has partnered with Jaina Marketing in India as the ‘Strategic Partner for Marketing, Distribution and Customer Support’ for their smartphones.

Panasonic is bringing a magnetic flip-cover and a stylus to the P51. The P51′s body is a unibody design. The 5-inch IPS display of the phone is made of Asahi Dragon Trail Glass and has an Oleophobic coating to prevent smudges. The phone comes preloaded with apps like Kingsoft Office, Cam Scanner, Cam Card reader and WeChat, among others.

Panasonic has released the official TVC for P51:

Google brings a unified messaging service for Android, iOS and Chrome with ‘Hangouts’ App

At the I/O 2013 held in San Francisco, Google announced a unified messaging service called Hangouts. This app will finally unify all other Google messaging platforms like Google Talk, Google+ Hangouts and Messenger into one single platform. It’s already available on iOS, Android and for Chrome (as an extension).

On the start screen, the Hangout app shows a list of recent text conversations instead of a contact list, which is usually found on other messaging apps. Google’s taking a new approach here, more of like chat rooms style, each conversation gets its own name and the conversation can get an image or any Google emoji. The company has created 850 new hand-drawn emoji specifically for Hangouts.

Of course it’s Google, so it has to be all in the cloud. All your conversations are stored in the cloud which allows one to visit past conversations. Google+ Hangouts video chat is a popular product, and as expected the new Hangouts App will also allow video calls with up to 10 friends. Hangouts App will bring a new ‘watermark’ feature that allows users to show when someone else is typing, and indicate how far others have read in a conversation. There’s notification sync across all platforms. Once you see a notification on one device, Hangouts will clear it from your other Android devices and computers. You can also snooze notifications when you don’t want to be interrupted. The app will support multiple Google accounts too.

In a market crowded with many messaging services like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, WeChat, BBM, etc., Google’s Hangouts lags in terms of few features. It allows users to share text, photos and live video chat (G+ hangouts) with each other. Location sharing, contact sharing, voice chat, sms integration etc. are the features missing. But we suspect future updates will bring these features to the app.

BREAKING: LG officially launches the Nexus 4 in India at the same Flipkart price of Rs 25,999

We reported yesterday about Flipkart listing LG Nexus 4 for Rs. 25,999. Turns out it was correct as we’ve just received the official word from LG. They’ve launched the Nexus 4 in New Delhi for the same prize we saw on Flipkart.

Google announces Samsung Galaxy S4 running on stock Android Jelly Bean

Take your time to digest that surprising headline. It’s true. Google surprised everyone by announcing a Samsung Galaxy S4 which will run on stock Android Jelly Bean, just like all other Google Nexus devices. The device will have an unlocked bootloader, with 16GB storage on board. Rest of the specification will remain same as found on the original Galaxy S4.

Here’s more for Android enthusiasts to be happy: Google’s promised regular system software updates as well. The device will be available on both T-Mobile and AT&T’s LTE networks. It will also be available from the Play Store as an unlocked device for $649.

Google I/O 2013: There have been 48 Billion App Downloads, 900 Million Android Activations to date

All those astronomical figures are out. At the Google I/O held in San Francisco, Google Android / Chrome head Sundar Pichai announced that there have been 900 million Android devices activated to date since the operating system was launched four and a half years ago. That’s quite an achievement but Pichai said Android is yet to achieve the 7 Billion activation target which will cover the entire world population.

He also announced that the Play Store’s received a staggering 48 Billion apps downloads till date. Out of these, 2.8 Billion downloads happened in the last month alone. These numbers left our minds boggled. What about you?

Flipkart lists LG Google Nexus 4 for Rs. 25,990, Indian launch seems near [Updated]

Update – LG has just launched the Nexus 4 in India for the same price as we saw on Flipkart. It will be available in LG exclusive brand shops, Multi-brand outlets and specialty stores ( modern trade ) across India.

Update – 3.55 PM: Flipkart has just tweeted on their official twitter handle that Nexus 4 is up for pre-order with Zero processing fees on 3/6 month EMI.

The Nexus 4 got launched back in October 2012 but it didn’t get any Indian launch. Alas, Android purists can finally feel hopeful. Google’s flagship smartphone Nexus 4, manufactured by LG, gets listed on e-commerce site Flipkart at a price of Rs. 25,990 for the 16GB version. The listing doesn’t reveal any launch dates, although we believe it should happen soon.

Google had recently started selling the Nexus 7 tablet in India via the Play Store. So there’s possibility they might as well start selling the Nexus 4 very soon. It should be noted that Flipkart lists seller as LG, so it’s not Google whose selling the device. We’ll keep you posted if we hear any official announcements from LG or Google.

BlackBerry announces budget-friendly Q5 with a QWERTY keyboard

On Tuesday at the BlackBerry Live event in Orlando, CEO Thorsten Heins announced BlackBerry Q5 – a QWERTY phone running on BlackBerry 10. At the same event, we also saw announcement of BBM’s app coming to Andorid and iOS. Going by the various colours it will be available in, the device is targeted towards BB’s budget-minded youth users. It will come in red, white, black and pink.

Above the prestigious BB-style QWERTY keyboard, you’ll find a 3.1-inch (720 x 720 pixels) touchscreen. The Q5 is powered by a Dual-core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. A 5-megapixel rear camera will be present. BB failed to provide more detailed specs at the event.

Here’s what Thorsten had to say on the release of BlackBerry Q5:

“BlackBerry is excited to bring the new BlackBerry Q5 smartphone to our customers in selected markets around world,” said Thorsten Heins, President and CEO of BlackBerry. “The BlackBerry Q5 gives you the best of everything with its cutting-edge BlackBerry 10 functionality and a physical QWERTY keyboard. It is for youthful fans that are passionate, confident and bold, and it makes it easy for them to have fun, create, share and stay connected.”

BB Q5 will launch in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Latin America starting in July. No information about prices has been given yet.

Nokia announces Lumia 925: Slim Aluminium body, Smart Camera

Recently Nokia introduced the Lumia 928, but it turns out there was more to come. At the event in London, Nokia has announced ‘Lumia 925’. For this flagship device, Nokia has changed the hardware materials, made it slimmer and lighter as well as added some fresh software features, Smart Camera being the most important one.

The old Lumia 920 came with a polycarbonate build but the Lumia 925 will be Nokia’s first phone to be build with an aluminum frame. This material change lead to reduction in weight of up to 50 grams, thus making it weigh much lighter at 139 grams. It’s also gone slimmer with 8.8mm thickness. That slim body houses the same dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 1GB RAM, 2000mAh battery and 8.7-megapixel OIS camera found on the Lumia 920. A 4.5-inch AMOLED screen, touting the same resolution as 920 i.e. 1,280 x 768, coated in Gorilla Glass 2 with ClearBlack technology can be found on the Lumia 925.

Apart from the hardware, the highlight of the Lumia 925 also lies in Nokia’s new software for shutterbugs called ‘Smart Camera’. The app has the ability to capture ten images in burst style, and then users can select the best suited shot for themselves. There’s also Best Shot, Action Shot and Motion Focus which adds a motion blur effect to the background that wasn’t moving in the shot. With these new software upgrades, there’s also a hardware update to the camera on Lumia 925. Nokia’s added a sixth glass element to the five-lens Carl Zeiss 8.7 megapixel sensor which they claim will improve the sharpness of images.

Strangely Nokia decided to make buyers purchase an accessory cover to enable the wireless charging function. These covers would come in red, yellow, black and white. The Lumia 925 will be shipping in Europe and China this June with a price tag of 469 euros (roughly Rs. 33,500). There’s no word on its availability and pricing of Lumia 925 for India yet, though we expect and hope it to comes sooner rather than later.Similar Posts:

China’s Tencent officially launches WeChat App in India

The WeChat app had already got a soft-launch last year in the month of July. Today, the app received an official launch with a new branding campaign to boost their marketing efforts. In an attempt to tap into the youth mobile users of India, WeChat has gotten Bollywood celebrities Varun Dhawan and Parineeti Chopra as their brand ambassadors. A TVC featuring both the actors has been running on channels since last week. At the event, Tencent showed us another TVC which is soon set to make it to channels.

Head of Tencent India, Mr. Rahul Razdan shared a few interesting facts about the App.

WeChat is currently the top downloaded free app from Apple’s App Store in India.
On Android, it’s among the top 5 most downloaded Apps. (However, it should be noted that WhatsApp, a competitor, is first on the list).

Here’s quoting Mr. Razdan’s statement about the app:

WeChat not only allows friends to connect with each other, it also allows brands to interact with their customers creating a personalized two-way channel. WeChat is creating a unique ecosystem where users connect socially with their friends as well as engage with celebrities, brands and businesses making it an all-in-one app, to serve different needs of our users.

WeChat App offers features like ‘Hold-To-Talk, Voice Messaging, Group Chat, Moments, special emoticons and more. We know that Blackberry just announced BBM’s arrival to Android & iOS as well, but WeChat like many other cross-platform messaging app is already available on all major platforms. It’s available across iPhone, Android, Symbian, Windows Phone and Blackberry. The app has 300 million registered user accounts worldwide out of which 190 million are active users.

BlackBerry: Android and iOS will get BBM as a free app

You read it right! The hugely popular messaging service of BlackBerry – Blakcberry Messenger (BBM) will be arriving on Android and iOS this summer as a free standalone app. And unlike the previous rumors, this time its official. The company’s messenger is going cross-platform as competition is heating up from a lot of other similar services like WhatsApp, WeChat, Line, etc. It’s no secret that BBM was a popular service but it was staling off-late and BlackBerry is doing the right thing this time.

The Android app will run on devices with Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) or above and iOS app will run on iOS 6 or above. Initially, users would be able to use multi-person chats, as well as have the ability to share photos and voice notes, and engage in BBM Groups, which allows BBM customers to create groups of up to 30 people.

The company promises to deliver a fully featured BBM experience on both the operating systems. During the announcement of the news, CEO Thorsten Heins said,

It’s time to bring BBM to a greater audience, no matter what mobile device they carry. We’re starting with messaging and groups, but we’ll bring voice, screen share, and of course, channels later on.

BBM has over 60 million active users. BlackBerry claims that almost 51 million people of the 60 million BlackBerry owners, use the service daily. These numbers will surely expand as Android & iOS users get joined in the network. But if BlackBerry truly needs to go cross-platform, they cannot ignore Windows Phone and Symbian devices.Similar Posts:

Panasonic Mobiles to re-enter Indian Market with Panasonic P51 launch

As reported by BGR India, Panasonic has just sent out invites to the press for the launch of its first Android smartphone in India, through which the company would be re-entering into the massive Indian mobile industry.

Earlier yesterday, another blog reported of a brand new TV commercial being aired in between the IPL (Indian premier league) matches, about a new Panasonic phone dubbed as Panasonic P51.

As it can be seen on the TVC below, Panasonic P51 will sport a large 5” HD IPS display, 8 MP rear snapper and a quad-core 1.2 GHz processor.

Considering the press invite on 16th May and the new TVC uploaded by Android Adivces, it seems obvious that the invite is for the launch of Panasonic P51.

We will keep you posted of any official statement about the launch of Panansonic smartphone.

The app brings a lot for fans to indulge up until the release next month. There are wallpapers, character information, interactive game that puts you in control of Superman’s flight. The game comes with 4 chapters and 40 game challenges and players can post their rewards and photos from the app on social networks.

The app will also allow users to locate where the film is being shown in the local multiplexes, which as expected will be achieved by Nokia’s HERE Maps. US and UK residents will be able to purchase tickets as well. There’s something for everyone. All comic lovers can even read 4 full-length issues of Superman Origins by DC Comics. Android 4.2, Quad-Core Processor based Xolo Q700 Launched for Rs. 9,999

Latest offering from Lava’s premium brand – Xolo, is the Xolo Q700 that packs a super fast 1.2 GHz quad core processor and 1 GB RAM and is priced competitively at Rs. 9,990.

The phone that was in news in the recent days, after getting leaked in an online store runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) operating system.

Coming to the display, Q700 has a 4.5” QHD IPS display with a screen resolution of 540×960 (245 PPI pixel density). Xolo Q700 has a 5 MP rear camera that supports 720P video recording and also features a VGA on the front.

The connectivity options in the phone included Bluetooth, 3G and Wifi. The phone is packed with a 2400 mAh battery. Xolo Q700 is priced at Rs. 9,990 during launch.

Vertu TI Android based Luxury Smartphone now available in India for Rs. 6,49,990

If you haven’t heard of the name ‘Vertu’ ever before, let us first introduce this luxury smartphone manufacturer. ‘Vertu’ is a British based uber luxury smartphone company being established by Finland based handset manufacturing giant – Nokia. The company only manufactures high-end, hand made luxury smartphones crafted with precious metals like titanium.

That being said, Vertu’s latest model Vertu TI that was launched in February this year world-wide, has finally made its way to India officially. The phone is based on Android Ice-cream sandwich operating system, powered with a dual-core 1.7 GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal memory which can be further enhanced upto 32 GB using external storage slot.

Sony announces waterproof Xperia ZR, lets you shoot Full HD videos underwater

Sony has officially announced the younger sibling of Xperia Z, it’s called Xperia ZR. This one comes with some real special capabilities that the flagship Xperia Z doesn’t have (more on that later).

By the looks of it, the design is particularly the same but the ZR will ship with a smaller 4.6-inch, 1280 x 720 resolution LCD display. It’s running on a Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU clocked at 1.5 Ghz with 2 GB RAM, 8 GB internal memory with a microSD card slot and Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

Let’s jump to those special capabilities. The ZR will be waterproof and dust-resistant with a IP55 and IP58 certification. This makes it capable of being submerged up until 5 feet underwater, as compared to Xperia Z which could go only till 3.3 feet in water. But wait, what should I do with a phone after taking it 5 feet below the water? Turns out that you can click 13-megapixel snaps as well as record Full HD videos using the Exmos RS sensor featuring 16x digital zoom with auto-focus and Sony’ giving out a dedicated hardware shutter button to ease the capturing underwater. It can survive under freshwater for up to 30 minutes. The image sensor can capture in HDR (High Dynamic Range) for both photos and videos.
