Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe dijana menggunakan cip pemprosesan Snapdragon 820, memori sehingga 6GB RAM dan ruangan storan sehingga 256GB berasaskan kepada UFS 2.0 – iaitu jenis storan yang mempunyai masa bacaan dan menulis yang lebih pantas berbanding sebelumnya, dan telah digunakan pada telefon pintar seperti Galaxy S6.

Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe hadir dengan rekaan berasaskan logam sepenuhnya. Asus dilihat berbangga dengan rekaan mereka, dimana mereka berjaya hadir dengan rekaan yang menyembunyikan antena berbanding dengan pelbagai jenis peranti yang lain. Pada Zenfone 3 Deluxe, tiada sebarang garisan antena pada bahagian belakang telefon pintar berkenaan, ataupun pada bahagian tepi-atas.

Asus juga tidak menyertakan logo mereka pada bahagian hadapan lagi seperti sebelum ini, dan hanya memposisikan logo mereka pada bahagian belakang, dibawah. Ini menjadikan ia kelihatan lebih kemas berbanding sebelumnya yang sering diposisikan pada bahagian hadapan.

Ketiga-tiga Asus Zenfone 3 hadir dengan sokongan rangkaian 4G LTE, dan menyokong dwi-SIM. Walaubagaimanapun, ruangan SIM kedua adalah berbentuk hibrid, dan pengguna boleh memilih sama ada ingin menggunakan kad SIM ataupun kad mikro-SD sahaja.

Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe ini turut menyertakan ruangan pengimbas cap jari pada bahagian belakang untuk tujuan sekuriti tambahan. Disamping hanya sekuriti, pengguna turut boleh menggunakannya untuk beberapa akses pantas – sebagai contoh tap dua kali pada sensor pengimbas cap jari untuk membuka aplikasi kamera.

Bercakap pada bahagian kamera, Asus dilihat menyertakan kebolehan memfokuskan dengan pantas pada kamera 23-megapixel di belakang. Beberapa kali kami mencubanya, dan ia beroperasi dengan lancar, dan ada beberapa kali kami melihat ia mengalami masalah lengah masa sedikit. Namun, memandangkan ia masih menggunakan binaan ZenUI jenis eksperimental, maka perkara ini adalah sesuatu yang difahami.

Fungsi rakaman yang dinamakan Super Resolution turut disertakan yang mengabungkan rakaman beberapa gambar dan menjadikan ia gambar pada resolusi yang sangat tinggi.

Pada Zenfone 3 Deluxe, beberapa mod rakaman turut disertakan. Selain rakaman automatik, manual dan sebagainya, pihak Asus turut menyertakan sebuah mod rakaman dinamakan Children Mode. Melaluinya, pengguna boleh memainkan bunyi, dan ia akan merakamkan gambar secara automatik apabila wajah memandang kamera – sekaligus menjadikan ia salah satu fungsi yang sangat berguna sekiranya anda ingin merakamkan gambar anak anda.

Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe juga merupakan keluarga telefon pintar pertama yang menggunakan pengecasan berasaskan USB Type-C. Namun, dari segi penawaran bateri, ia sekadar menyertakan bateri berkapasiti 3000mAh sahaja.

Dari segi sistem operasi, Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe dijana menggunakan Android 6.0 Marshmallow dan antaramuka khusus daripada Asus, iaitu ZenUI 3.0. Daripada pengamatan kami, Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe menawarkan bilangan aplikasi terbina yang lebih sedikit berbanding dengan telefon pintar sebelum ini, tetapi beberapa aplikasi yang hadir masih boleh dikategorikan sebagai bloatware.

Walaupun menawarkan spesifikasi yang baik, namun harga jualan Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe adalah lebih tinggi berbanding dengan penawaran pelbagai peranti Zenfone sebelum ini yang lebih menyasarkan pengguna di rantau Asia. Menyedari perkara ini, pihak Asus turut menyediakan peranti Asus Zenfone 3 dengan spesifikasi pertengahan.

Asus Zenfone 3 hadir dengan skrin bersaiz 5.5-inci berasaskan Super IPS+ LCD dan bukannya Super AMOLED seperti Deluxe. Dari segi spesifikasi, ia dijana menggunakan cip Snapdragon 625, memori sehingga 4GB RAM dan ruangan storan sehingga 64GB.

Asus Zenfone 3 menggunakan binaan berasaskan kaca pada bahagian belakang. Ini menjadikan ia lebih selesa untuk dipegang berbanding dengan Zenfone 3 Deluxe. Mungkin juga saiznya yang sedikit kecil turut memainkan peranan sama dalam menjadikan peranti ini lebih selesa ditangan.

Untuk rakaman gambar, Zenfone 3 menggunakan kamera belakang 16-megapixel dan kamera hadapan 8-megapixel. Agak pelik sedikit kerana kami mendapati Asus Zenfone 3 mempunyai lebih banyak mod rakaman berbanding dengan Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe yang hanya mempunyai beberapa mod sahaja. Dari segi perisian, ia menawarkan perkara yang lebih kurang sama, termasuk penggunaan pengimbas cap jari pada bahagian belakang.

Salah satu perkara yang mungkin mengecewakan pengguna untuk Asus Zenfone 3 adalah ketiadaan lampu pada butang navigasi dihadapan – berbeza dengan Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe.

Bagi anda yang meminati peranti bersaiz besar dan ingin menggunakannya untuk membuat input atau menikmati multimedia, salah satu telefon pintar yang disediakan oleh Asus adalah Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra. Ia hadir dengan skrin bersaiz 6.8-inci dengan paparan 1080p, disamping menawarkan cip pemprosesan Snapdragon 652 dan memori sehingga 4GB RAM.

Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra ini dilihat turut menyertakan sokongan kamera seperti Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe dan kapasiti bateri sehingga 4600mAh. Berbeza dengan kedua-dua peranti Asus Zenfone 3 lain, Zenfone 3 Ultra menyertakan pengimbas cap jari pada bahagian hadapan, di butang Home. Ini mungkin lebih praktikal kerana ia agak sukar untuk mencapai jari ke bahagian belakang ketika menggunakannya pada peranti bersaiz sebegini.

Keluarga Asus Zenfone merupakan antara peranti yang popular di pasaran tempatan, dan semestinya harga akan memainkan peranan yang sangat penting dalam memastikan penerimaan peranti ini di kalangan pengguna. Penggunaan cip Snapdragon dari Qualcomm menggantikan Intel sebelum ini sendiri mungkin menarik lebih ramai pengguna menggunakannya, apatah lagi dengan rekaan yang lebih baik dan premium berbanding dengan Zenfone 2 sebelum ini.

Asus Malaysia telah mengatakan mereka akan memasarkan peranti ini di Malaysia sekitar bulan Ogos kelak.

Asus FonePad 7

Entry-level 7 inch smartphone

Asus is expanding its FonePad line of big smartphones (or small tablets) with a new FonePad 7 (FE170CG). It’s a 7 inch Android tablet which you can use to make phone calls or surf the web over 2G and 3G networks.

The new model popped up on the Asus website recently, and while there’s no word on the price, the spec-sheet paints a picture of an entry-level device. The new FonePad has a lower-resolution display and a slower processor than the FonePad 7 Asus launched in 2013.

The Asus FonePad 7 (FE170CG) features a 1.2 GHz Intel Atom Z2520 Clover Trail+ processor, a 7 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, 1GB of RAM, and 4GB to 8GB of built-in storage, depending on the model. There’s also a microSD card slot for up to 64GB of additional storage.

It runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean software, although Asus says an Android 4.4 KitKat update is on the way.

The FonePad has a 2MP rear camera, 0.3MP front-facing camera, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, Miracast wireless display support, GPS, and support for HSPA+ networks.

Asus will offer models with single SIM or dual SIM support. The Dual SIM model will be available in black, white, red, or blue, while the single SIM phone/tablet will come in white only.

The device measures 7.6″ x 4.3″ x 0.4″ and weighs 10.2 ounces.

While most of the specs are pretty underwhelming, the new Asus FonePad 7 has a few things going for it including up to 10 hours of battery life, a front-facing speaker, and the ability to use one device as both your phone and tablet, which could potentially save you some money. And if you don’t want to hold a 7 inch tablet up to your head to make calls, you could always use a Bluetooth or wired headset.

Asus will also offers accessories including a magnetic smart cover that can function as a kickstand.

Nokia Lumia 630

The Lumia 630 running Windows Phone 8.1 won't be available in the United States, but the very similar Lumia 635 will.

Nokia introduced three new Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1 on the main stage of Microsoft's Build developer conference this week. At a more intimate evening event, the Finnish handset maker offered PCMag and other media outlets a closer look at the Lumia 630, Lumia 635, and Lumia 930.

Of the three, only the Lumia 635 will be available in the United States. Nokia, however, only appeared to have the Lumia 630 and Lumia 930 on hand for reporters to test drive, which seems odd for an event held in San Francisco.

Still, the Lumia 930 ($599 before carrier subsidies) is essentially the same phone, albeit one that will run Windows Phone 8.1 when it's released in a few month, as the Lumia Icon, a device that was made available in the U.S. back in February. Meanwhile, the Lumia 630 and Lumia 635 are also very similar smartphones, so what I'm able to report from my hands on with the former should give you a decent idea of what the latter is like. The Lumia 635 will be a bit pricier at $189 than the standard Lumia 630, which will cost just $159 when it appears in May, but the 635 is a 4G LTE device whereas the 630 is 3G.

The Lumia 635 apparently has some more colorful, changeable case options than the Lumia 630. But the 635 doesn't have a dual-SIM variant like the 630, which will be available in a version supporting dual SIMs priced at $169.

At any rate, the Lumia 630 is a light, well put together device with a 4.5-inch touch screen, and gentle, rounded edges that give it a softer, more playful look than the larger, blockier Lumia 930, which is set to become Nokia's new trophy phone. Nokia has extended the colorful case of the Lumia 630 to the sides of the phone, further giving the device a fun and sporty appeal much as Apple did with the iPhone 5c.

Nokia has also gone minimal with external buttons for this phone—there's just a power/lock button and a volume rocker on the right side of the Lumia 630. What's more, the buttons are the same bright color as the phone's shell.

Aside from their radios and the dual-SIM variant, the hardware inside the Nokia 630 and Nokia 635 is the same. Both phones sport a quad-core, 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor from Qualcomm, 512MB of memory, and 8GB of onboard storage with additional microSD card support for 128GB.

There's only one camera on these phones, a 5-megapixel rear-facing shooter that pales in comparison with the 20-megapixel unit in the Lumia 930, but hey, you get what you pay for. Nokia said it built in better sensors to the Lumia 630 and 635 to improve things like fitness apps, as well as some new photo-editing options and the ability to send photos directly to social media sites like Instagram.

But the really big deal with the newest Lumia phones is Windows Phone 8.1. PCMag's Michael Muchmore had a chance to tool around with Microsoft's new mobile OS earlier this week, and I also enjoyed my brief time testing it out on the Lumia 630, courtesy of Nokia.

If you've heard one thing about Windows Phone 8.1, it's likely you've heard about Cortana. Microsoft's new personal assistant for WP 8.1 uses a natural language interface to perform tasks for you, much like Apple's Siri and Google Now do on rival platforms.

NEC Medias W

There are still a bunch of smartphone surprises in all shapes and forms coming from the Land of the Rising Sun with every new carrier portfolio. We say shapes and forms, since that's exactly the selling point of the NEC Medias W that is included in NTT DoCoMo's spring launch. Samsung might have a prototype bending phone in the labs with the YOUM flexible screens, but the Japanese are taking the simpler approach.

They just slapped two 4.3" qHD panels, and connected them with a hinge, so when closed the NEC Medias W is not larger than your average smartphone, just a bit thicker. When you open it, though, it reveals a screen that is Note II-sized and more in diagonal, letting you fool around with apps stretching on both screens, or use two apps at the same time.

In addition to a number of devices introduced at Mobile World Congress, one of which attracted the attention of many devices is the smartphone that can be folded out of the NEC.

Device known as the NEC Medias W is only targeted for the Japanese market only for now, and is said to be extended to other countries soon.

In terms of specifications, it is equipped with 4.3-inch screen size when used as a smart phone, and change the size 5.6-inch display on its screen used both. It is also equipped with dual-core processing chip 1.5GHz, 1GB of memory RAM, and 16GB of storage space built-sized. This device uses a camera on the big 8.1-megapixel sensor, which when opened, can be used as a front camera, making the device with a camera for video calls is interesting.

On the screen, it can be said display interesting, and very clear. However, one problem that appears is when using a dual-screen for viewing photos or playing games, etc., at the center of the frame looks quite disturbing.

As it focuses on two methods of operation, in which a smart phone and small tablet, then most of the applications on the device NEC Medias W has been optimized. When entering text, etc., users can use the device to set a screen as a keyboard, and the other as a normal screen.

As mentioned earlier, it is still not known when this device will be sold outside Japan.

This is quite evident with a few cameras that we’ve come across in the past eg., the Samsung NV3 that featured a portable media player, and the twin-lens Fuji FinePix Real 3D W3 that can shoot in 3D. Equipped with Wi-Fi and a front LCD, the Samsung DV300F is also offbeat—it makes it easy to shoot self portraits and share photos wirelessly. Then come features such as effect filters, built-in GPS and Wi-Fi, Smile Shutter, and not to mention Sweep Panorama in Sony’s Cyber-shot digital cameras—all of which make shooting fun and convenient to share photos. The latest innovation in the digital camera space is the Samsung Galaxy Camera, and this time Samsung has gone completely overboard! Imagine what you’ll get if you cross a full-fledged super-zoom camera with the Samsung Galaxy S III. That’s exactly what the Galaxy Camera is, except that you can’t make calls with it. Let’s find out what this highly converged gizmo has in store.

Design and features

At 300 grams and with the body about 1.5 times the size of an average point-and-shoot camera, the Galaxy Camera is a whopper of a digital camera. It’s as hefty as two Galaxy S3s stacked together, plus the massive lens that sticks out about half an inch. Although you can (that is, if you’re not wearing tight-fitting jeans), you definitely don’t want to stuff it in your pocket and walk about. We have seen mega-zoom cameras with a lot more compact bodies, but the reason for the massive shell is either because Samsung decided to stick in a large 4.8-inch display on the rear or because of the oversized guts, or both. For the first time, we’ve seen such a large display on a digital camera, but the applications calls for one. Firstly, it’s a luxuriously large viewfinder and secondly, photos and videos look great on the 720p display.

Like we’ve already said, it shares the feature set with the Galaxy S III. It runs a 1.4GHz quad-core processor along with 1GB RAM and Mali-400MP graphics processor. That’s some serious power to run the camera, the Android Jelly Bean OS and the most demanding apps. Open the battery lid at the bottom and you’ll be greeted with a microSD slot to expand the 8GB of on-board storage and a micro-SIM slot that lends this smart camera 3G support. Other connectivity options include built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth adapters. By now you must have guessed what was going on in Samsung's head—to concoct a camera with which you can instantly share high quality photos and videos online. It also doubles as a portable media player and a mobile Internet device. With the option to download apps from Google Play Store, you can make the Galaxy Camera even more versatile. For example, you can download apps for photo editing and creating slideshows or games, ebook reader and other utilities. Samsung has bundled apps for editing photos and videos, Instagram, Dropbox and Paper Artist in addition to the usual bunch of apps such as YouTube, Gmail, Maps, Navigation, Calculator, Clock, Messaging, and so on.

The large lens is the most dominant part of the camera after the screen and the large body. The focal length is 23 mm (35 mm equivalent) at the widest end and goes up to a good 481 mm, which translates to 21x optical zoom. The largest aperture at the wide and telephoto ends are f/2.8 and f/5.9 respectively—way better than f/3.2 and f/6.3 that is mostly the case with super-zoom cameras. The sensor is of the CMOS type and has a resolution of 16 megapixels. The flash is a pop-up type and it has to be raised manually using a tiny button on the left side. A motorised mechanism to automatically raise and lower the flash would have been ideal, especially in Auto mode. In this case, you’ll be frustrated if you forget to raise the flash in low light; you’ll end up with dark, underexposed shots.

Samsung has gone with a minimalistic design. The top just has the zoom lever and shutter release. A 3.5 mm jack for headphones and a common micro USB port for charging the li-ion battery pack and transferring data are located on the right side. An HDMI port is located at the centre of the battery compartment lid, covered by a tiny flap.

Build quality and ergonomics

The build quality of the shell is excellent—the camera feels like a solid block of plastic. The touchscreen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, which makes it highly resistant to scratches. Thankfully, there are no glossy surfaces, which is a big relief from fingerprints and scratches. You only have to keep the display spic and span, for which a tiny piece of microfiber cloth should be good enough.

Despite its monolithic design, the camera looks good. And that’s it! The bulge around the grip is too less for a comfortable grip. And despite a textured rubberised grip, the design doesn’t inspire confidence for single-handed operation at all. If you have even slightly larger hands, you’ll find your curled fingers are hardly in contact with the rubberised grip and you’ll want to use both hands rather than risking having to bury the camera in your backyard!

As for the user interface, it’s brilliant—this should be educational for digital camera manufacturers who come out with models with fully touch-operated interface. The implementation of the PASM, scene and video modes is just too good—it’s functional, intuitive and extremely easy to use. The layout of the UI is for right-handed use. The Camera icon above the large Mode button is for releasing the shutter using touchscreen, and the Camcorder icon when touched immediately starts recording video. The Mode button brings up three modes—Auto, Smart and Expert. The Smart mode is nothing but the scene mode. However, many of the presets are different from the usual bunch present in point-and-shoot cameras. For example, Light Trace (for getting light trails using long shutter exposure), Silhouette, Waterfall, Rich Tone, Best Face (best shot from a burst of 5 shots), Panorama and Sunset.

The expert mode has the PASM modes and it’s not as daunting to use like in the case of super-zooms wherein you need to tinker with the D-pad and dials. Here, the virtual dials for ISO, EV, aperture and shutter are displayed next to each other. You change the values simply by swiping your finger up and down. Obviously, the dials that can be used depend on the selected mode. For example, the Program mode only allows changing the ISO and EV, and the Aperture Priority mode doesn’t allow changing the shutter speed. Other settings such as the white balance, focus, drive mode, self-timer and metering mode, quality settings and resolution settings are available via the Settings icon on the top left corner. Some of the commonly used settings are additionally available via the quick menu, which slides open on touching the ‘>’ icon next to the Settings icon. On opening the quick menu, you’ll find a tiny microphone icon, which is for voice commands. More than coming in handy, it’s fun to use but at the risk of looking crazy or being laughed at if your commands aren’t registered repeatedly. Videos are recorded at full HD resolution (MP4 format) and you have the entire range of optical zoom at your disposal while shooting.

Galaxy S3 takes No. 1 position in smartphone market: research

Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S3 became the world's best-selling smartphone model last quarter, pushing aside Apple Inc's iPhone, which has dominated the chart for more than two years, research firm Strategy Analytics said on Thursday.

Strategy Analytics estimated Samsung sold 18 million S3 models in the third quarter, compared with iPhone 4S sales of 16.2 million.

Strong sales of the flagship Galaxy S3 - which comes with a large 4.8 inch touchscreen - helped Samsung post a record $7.3 billion operating profit in the July-September quarter.

"Samsung's Galaxy S3 has proven wildly popular with consumers and operators across North America, Europe and Asia," said analyst Neil Mawston, adding the new iPhone 5 would likely reclaim the top spot for Apple in the current quarter. (Reporting by Tarmo Virki; Editing by David Holmes)

Galaxy Note 10.1 video spot shows phone dialer

We know there are plenty of people waiting to get their hands on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet and recently there was a stir when leaked release details seemed to have come out, although they were subsequently pulled. However for those of you waiting we at least have a video for you to take a look at and in it you can clearly see a phone dialer along with Telcel wallpaper.

A few days ago we told how the Galaxy Note 10.1 had gone up for pre-orders on Amazon, first showing availability of between 3 and 5 weeks, changed later to show a release date of July 30. A price of $549.99 was also listed but before you take too much notice of this news (in case you missed it) we should point out that Samsung later issued a statement saying pre-orders were not yet available and the Amazon page was taking down. Of course that July 30 release date may be genuine but if so we’re obviously not meant to know that yet!

While we still don’t have a confirmed release date for the Galaxy Note 10.1 a new 5-minute video has come to light, as reported by GigaOm, showing a hands-on experience with this much-awaited device. The text shown in the video may be Spanish but even if you don’t speak the lingo the video still throws up some interesting teasers. Android Central points out the Telcel wallpaper for example so it now seems we know at least one network that will offer it. Another intriguing spot is that phone dialer.

We also mentioned the other day that the Amazon details that went up listed a 1.4GHz quad-core processor rather than the dual-core that was expected for the Galaxy Note 10.1. This would no doubt please a lot of potential customers although it has not been confirmed yet. Other specs and features include the 10.1-inch display, 1GB of RAM, S-pen stylus, 3.15-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash with 1080p video capture and 2-megapixel secondary camera. It all runs on Android 4.0 ICS.

Sprint Motorola Photon 4G Smartphone

When the Motorola Photon 4G debuts through Sprint later this month it will be Motorola’s first WiMAX smartphone and Sprint’s first international 4G smartphone that is capable of working on GSM networks around the world. Powered by a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor with each core running at 1GHz, 1GB of RAM and with 16GB of built-in memory the device will come with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) per-installed.

In a first for a Motorola smartphone, the Photon 4G features a kickstand that will switch the display to landscape mode when deployed so you can enjoy some hands free viewing on the device’s 4.3-inch qHD (960 x 540) touchscreen display. This is slightly larger than the 4-inch display found on the Motorola Atrix 4G available through AT&T.

There’s also a front-facing VGA camera for video-chat and an 8-megapixel, dual-LED flash rear camera with dedicated camera button that can capture 720p HD video. Full HD 1080p video can be output via the mini HDMI port. The 16GB of on board memory can be expanded to up to a total of 48GB via a 32GB SD card, while the device’s 3G/4G hotspot capability supports up to eight devices.

Aimed at business customers as well as the general consumer, the Photon 4G features enterprise-quality security capabilities such as data encryption and remote device management, alongside the international GSM capabilities to keep business travelers in touch around the globe.

The device will also be compatible with a range of optional accessories, including a Vehicle Navigation Dock and Motorola’s HD Station multimedia dock that includes a wireless remote and HDMI cable and combines with the Webtop application to allow users to launch a full Firefox 4.0 browser and access and create content on a larger monitor or HD TV.

This is a video of a conceptualized iPad 3 from Aatma Studios. It has cool features like an edge-to-edge screen, magnetic sensors with near field communications (for attaching more than one unit together so they can interact) and a 3D holographic display for multiplayer games. The real iPad 3? It's gonna have a sharper display, a faster processor, a nicer camera, possibly 4G connectivity, and SIRI assistant. Those sound more like iPad 2.5 improvements than iPad 3 ones to me, but what do I know? I'm not an industry professional. Or any kind of professional really. I went to a job interview a couple of weeks ago with ketchup all on my shirt. You know what I told the interviewer? It was blood. His, from the future - after I found out I didn't get the job. Now, this is exactly what not to expect to be unveiled at Apple's iPad press event next week. A flurry of feature speculations have taken the web by storm following the news that the company will launch a product on March 7 in San Francisco, but this clever video from Aatma Studio -- whose previous video raked in nearly 50 million views on YouTube -- takes it a step further and opens up a world of possibilities for the future of tablets.

For example, it toys with the option of a 2560 x 1140 resolution edge-to-edge retina display, which gives the allusion of a larger visual screen area. In the video, the entire screen serves as the home button.

Although this notion is already possible with today's tech advancements, it doesn't seem likely for the next-generation iPad, especially since the event invitation features an image of a touchscreen device with a frame.

However, Aatma plays up the possibility in the video. It takes one iPad and places it next to another and the first takes over the screen of the second -- similar to having two screens for a desktop computer.

"Although the tablet form factor is great, we felt the need for a larger visual real estate," Pramod Modi Shantharam, the CEO and animation director at Aatma, told Mashable. "We eliminated the black border of current iPad and thought it would be a great visual experience for users who bring their iPads together utilizing their internal magnets."

This would allow users to stream videos or watch a movie on two iPad screens at once. The studio used internal magnets with near field communications (NFC) technology to make it happen.

"Consider a scenario where a family of four brings their individual iPads together at an airport while waiting for their flight with a master iPad controlling all screens," Shantharam added. "This could facilitate new original forms of media content in the future."

But perhaps the most innovative feature in the video is a 3D multiplayer hologram for gaming. Game controllers project out onto the surface of the table, while two players play a football game with the help of the two combined iPads.

"The 3D holographic display was a popular feature in our iPhone 5 concept video and we wanted to extend that to the iPad," Shantharam said. "Users could experience a three-dimensional floating holographic screen with combined iPads, making it an exciting use case for multiplayer games."

LG Optimus Slider And HTC Wildfire S Coming To Virgin Mobile In October

So there you are, at the end of the two-year agreement with your current carrier. You're at fork in the road. On one hand, you could drop a couple hundred bucks for a new phone, sign a new agreement, and start the cycle all over again. On the other, you could spend a couple hundred bucks with Virgin Mobile, nix the contract, and be a free man (or woman, whatevs). So what do you do?

We don't know the answer to that, but here's what we do know: Sprint just announced two new low-end phones for Virgin Mobile with equally low-end pricetags. The two phones are the LG Optimus Slider, a small phone with a slideout keyboard; and the HTC Wildfire S, HTC's first device to land on the Sprint post-paid subsidiary.

Like I said, both of these devices are low-end, so don't expect dual-core processors and geebees of RAM.

LG Optimus Slider

It's tiny. It has a physical keyboard. It's $200. That's about all you really need to know about the LG Optimus Slider, but if you're still interested after hearing the version of the specs, here is the full list:

Like the idea of a small, non-contract phone for the price that others pay for an on-contact phone, just don't fancy the physical keyboard? The Wildfire S may be the little darling for you. Like the Optimus Slider, it's little-bitty thing, housing very similar specs:

It's Windows Phone, but not as we know it

HTC's new Windows Phone Mango range has been unveiled, and with it some expected and some unexpected handsets.

The unexpected moniker certainly stands for the HTC Titan that, although we heard rumours of it, comes with a surprising 4.7-inch screen, making it easily one of the biggest phones on the market.
It's also running Mango, the latest version of Microsoft's operating system, and is designed to be one of the flagship phones carrying the Redmond OS flag.

We've extensively trawled through Windows Phone Mango already, so if you want to see all the new tricks the OS has up its sleeve, take a gander here.

The HTC Titan is big. And we mean big. The thinner, sub 10mm, frame helps it not feel so gargantuan in the hand, but some will still worry about pocketability.

Incidentally, we tried that facet (under the watchful eye of HTC's PR) and it's equally as easy to slip into a pair of trousers as the Samsung Galaxy S2, although given the larger heft, it's easier to feel it's in there.

Design wise, it's not much to write home about. We've been distinctly unimpressed with some of the functional designs offered up for Windows Phone by most manufacturers (perhaps the Samsung Omnia 7 aside) and the HTC Titan takes on that industrial feel too.

It's thin and curved, so it wins points for that, but overall lacks the wow factor of the hewn metal of the iPhone 4 or the sleek lines of the Galaxy S2 - Microsoft should be begging manufacturers to come up with sexier designs to help the platform flourish.

There's a definite feel of the HTC HD7 about the phone, which means we're sad there's no kickstand in sight - it was a real winner on the old phone and should have been ported across in our view.

There's an 8MP camera bolted on the back of the phone, with a 28mm lens and f/2.2 aperture, which is flanked by a double LED flash - this means the range of conditions for photo taking has increased considerably and places the phone in the higher echelons of snap quality (theoretically).

However, the main thing we're interested in seeing is whether the improved 1.5GHz processor, which sadly isn't dual core, is able to cope with constant scrolling and app opening and closing.
The good news: it seems to be able to handle everything we threw at it. Sure, Windows Phone is already very slick, but even with the additional multitasking on offer, this was still a decent experience.

What is weird is that despite the screen being larger, the resolution remains the same as any phone in the WP range (which we knew) but the tiles really look bigger compared to the smaller phones... it feels likes you're a child with the phone.

However, the quality of the Super LCD screen is impressive - the colours are rich and the blacks deep - although as you can see in our side by side comparison, not really in the same league as the Samsung Galaxy S.

HTC's main USP in the Windows Phone range are the additional applications it's developed for the platform and the improved camera - for instance, you can take burst shots with the snapper or use it to capture a wide panorama of photos.

Both of these photography features worked well in our opinion - whether it will be enough to entice people over to Microsoft's platform, we don't know (although we doubt it) but it's good to see some differentiation.

One irritating point - the audio settings HTC has wedged in there, including SRS Surround Sound and 5.1 virtual audio are both only activated by heading out of the Music and Videos app and into the system settings.

The fact that these can't be activated from within the application itself still shows how far Windows Phone has to go - it really ruins the slick feel of the OS having to navigate this way.

Early verdict

Our early impressions of the HTC Titan are mixed: on the one hand, Windows Phone has taken a step forward with Mango, and the Titan is everything its name promises, with a larger screen and hefty proportions that actually fit in the hand quite well.

But on the other hand, it's nothing overly exciting to look at, bar the larger screen. A single core processor is hardly ground breaking, despite the added speed, and the functional design of the device doesn't set our pulses racing.

If you want a big screen device, then this (or the Samsung Galaxy Note) are worth checking out, but other than that, we can't see this being really big draw for those that might be thinking of jumping ship to Microsoft.
