Bananarama :: Megarama 2015

It's been a while since Bananarama's re-issues have been released. Back then there was a hint that some of the missing tracks like Love, Truth & Honesty, Nathan Jones (single) and Help! would be on a compilation of some sorts.

Fast forward 1 1/2 years and there you have it: Megarama The Mixes, a 3-disc set featuring 36 mixes of Bananarama tracks, 14 of which had never been released before.

While hopes are high for the CDs, expectations that we get Changes or unreleased demos are low, as Sara and Keren were involved selecting tracks and mixes for this sampler and the girls are not too keen on their unfinished tracks to be released.

Shayne Ward :: Closer Album out in April

April looks likely to be a good month for SAW fans. Not only is the new Bananarama compilation out, but we will also get brand new material written and produced by Mike Stock.

Former X-Factor winner Shayne Ward teamed up with Mike last year and together they've been working on an album worth of material. The tracklisting was revealed and some of the titles already sound like a familiar SAW track from back in the day. We especially look forward to listening to Too Much To Lose and My Heart Would Take You Back.

There's also another SAW reference as the album was mixed by none other than Dave Ford.

The album Closer will be released as a standard CD, deluxe edition or digital download and is out April 13th 2015. You can pre-order now from Amazon.co.uk

In an interview with Attitude magazine Shayne hinted that the album is full of uptempo pop songs with a few ballads thrown in for good measure.

Donna Summer :: Another Place And Time Re-Release

Great news for Donna Summer and Stock Aitken Waterman fans. The epic "Another Place And Time" album, which is one of the most loved albums among SAW fans is finally getting a re-release as a triple CD box set.

The CD set will contain the orginal album on CD1 and all singles, official remixes as well as unheard instrumentals on CD 2 and 3.

Most importantly, the track listing has been revised after SAW fans pointed out the omission of several unreleased PWL remixes and we will now get 2 unreleased Pete Hammond master mixes of I Don't Wanna Get Hurt and When Love Takes Over You.

Bananarama Re-Releases On Edsel - Track Listings Revealed

It's gonna be a hot October as the first 6 albums by Bananarama will be re-released with lots of rare and unreleased tracks. The 2CD+DVD sets will be released on Edsel in the style of the Belinda Carlisle albums on October 22nd.

The artwork is finalised as we speak and if the rumours are true, there may be more Bananarama coming up as several tracks and mixes are still missing on the CDs, like the singles "Love, Truth & Honesty", "Nathan Jones" and "Help". So fingers crossed we will also finally get the so far unreleased David Bowie cover version of "Changes", the Bon Jovi cover of "You Give Love A Bad Name" and the unreleased SAW demos.

Club 2Gethr are Livin' The Dream!

Club 2Gethr - Livin' The Dream

Mike Stock's latest proteges are UK teens Club 2Gethr. Not unlike S Club 7, Mike has created a summery feel good tune that is instantly memorable and will keep your spirits high on summer nights.

The video for "Livin' The Dream!" has been published this week and you'll be pleasantly surprised to find a Stock/Aitken star as the mother of Club 2Gethr. It's none other than Nicki French who has been recording with Mike Stock earlier this year.

The single will be out digitally July 14th on iTunes.

The Love This Collection, Vol. 1 & 2

After a long wait Mike Stock fans are being treated to lots of rare and unreleased songs written and/or produced by Mike Stock and Matt Aitken during the "Love This" era between 1994 and 2001.

So far The Love This Collection Volume 1 has been released on iTunes and most other download portals with Volume 2 to follow next month.

In more recent news Mike has worked again with his most popular and successful artist of the Love This label, Nicki French. They recorded an uptempo dance track that will hopefully appear on Nicki's next album, most likely on the Energise label.

Rumour also has it that Mike is to record with Heidi Montag, but nothing has been officially confirmed as yet.

In the meantime Mike's collaborations with Heidi Range (formerly of Sugababes) are getting a release on the Love This Collections.

Evergreen - The Very Best Of Hazell Dean

A brand new Hazell Dean compilation will be hitting the (online) stores on September 10th 2012. The double CD album, entitled Evergreen - The Very Best Of Hazell Dean, will contain lots of rare PWL recorded songs including the so far iTunes only Stock Aitken Waterman penned "Can't Help The Way That I Feel", later recorded by Sonia.

Some tracks will be released for the very first time as they never made it past the demo stage. It's a great celebration of Hazell Dean's Hi-NRG/dance pop carreer spread out over 2 CDs. CD1 will contain single versions of all her hits, some B-sides and rare tracks, whereas CD2 is filled with some much sought after 12" versions.

The unreleased PWL tracks are: "Call And Say", "Keeping It Together" and "Tell Me (You'll Wait For Me)", the latter being a Harding & Curnow track.

New Pete Hammond Mix For Spencer

PWL fan and pop artist in his own right, Spencer, has released a new single on the internet. The Quest For Pop is an uplifting pop track paying tribute to music of the 80s and bringing pop music back.

The song was remixed by none other than PWL Mixmaster Pete Hammond to give it an authentic PWL feel.

Following hot on the heels of their own release, Risin Up (we've told you earlier this year), the Strict Love boys have come up with another winner. In another place and time...

Just over 23 years ago I went to my local record store and bought a vinyl LP by the famous disco queen Donna Summer. I heard some of her music before, but to be honest, I didn't really know much about her. Not even the alleged accusations about AIDS being god's punishment for gay people.

In March 1989 "This Time I Know It's For Real" was sitting in the top 3 of the UK charts and I had bought the CD single by then. This wasn't always possible for me back in the days as Austria wasn't part of the EU by then and it would sometimes take a couple of weeks until we were able to buy records that were already out a few weeks. I loved TTIKIFR, but I think I prefered other singles by SAW that were in the charts then.

Anyway, it was the 20th of April 1989 when I finally got the "Another Place And Time" album. I bought it on vinyl as it was a lot cheaper than buying CDs back then (the CD would follow later). I remember putting it in my record player and noticing that I had accidentally put on side 2. I quickly corrected my mistake and changed it to side 1.

Then all of a sudden without the usual drum intro, just by playing the first chords the instrumental chorus of "I Don't Wanna Get Hurt" started to play. Wow! I loved that bassline. Stock Aitken Waterman's style was beginning to change in early 89 and this was headed right back to 1988. I loved everything about that track. It was catchy, the arrangement was so well structured and the song itself was one of the most beautiful compositions I had ever heard. Great verses a fantastic bridge and a chorus to die for. It even had a guitar solo and a sort of middle eight with no snare drum. IDWGH gave me goosebumps immediately.

"The Only One" and "Sentimental" had a similar effect on me, but "I Don't Wanna Get Hurt" was and still is my favourite Donna song of all time.

Back in 1989 I wasn't that keen on "Breakaway", but later in my life I discovered its beauty. To this day, this and Kylie's first 3 albums must be my most played albums of all time. Not a single filler on the APAT album.

I just never really understood why Donna went for the Geisha look on the album sleeve. Sure, it stood out, but I think it irritated people more than it made them buy this great LP. I think the classic SAW design - a portrait with a white background - would have worked more in the album's favour.

A couple of years ago, when PWL started to use their back catalogue a few of rare mixes of the "Another Place And Time" sessions were discovered. I assume there's plenty of material to be used for a re-release of Donna and Stock Aitken Waterman's masterpiece. It's long overdue and now with Donna's passing I think fans are craving to hear these tracks in better quality and listen to the unreleased stuff even more.

There's an extended album version of "I Don't Wanna Get Hurt", a Dave Ford remix of "When Love Takes Over You", Loveland mixes and I'm sure a couple more waiting to be published.

Donna's untimely death came as a shock to me as I'm sure it did to most people. I hope she's in a better place now and would like to send my condolences to the ones that love her.

Thank you Donna for an album that seems timeless to me and that I will play in my heart forever.

To celebrate Kylie's 25th anniversary in the music business, her current record label EMI will release another best of album with a selection of Kylie's greatest hits.

The track list looks a bit obscure, though as it features some minor hits rather than her most successful singles. Apparently this track listing results from a market research with Kylie's fans. We're not so sure about that. Who in their right mind would prefer Red Blooded Woman, Give Me Just A Little More Time or Tears On My Pillow over Shocked, Step Back In Time or the timeless What Do I Have To Do?

Looks like the real fans are constantly let down by EMI, who could have created something more exciting by throwing in some rare or unreleased tracks and mixes. But maybe that's just the start of the K25 campaign with more to come.

Anyway, The Best Of Kylie Minogue will be released on CD and a special edition that includes a DVD with videos of the same songs.

Produced early last year and being remixed a couple of times, the fantastic debut single by Strict Love feat. Zan, "Risin' Up" is now available on iTunes all over the world.

The track was produced by Australian dance-electro duo Luke Nutley and Andy Evans and features remixes by Esquire (remixed for Utah Saints, Rhianna, The Saturdays etc), Niclas Kings (co-writer of Nervo's hits "This Kind Of Love" & "Irresistable") and Nutley & Evans with a traditional extended & a US sounding circuit style mix.

"Samantha Fox", the 1987 sophomore album from the perennial pop icon and pin-up, receives a Double CD Deluxe Edition reissue on Cherry Pop.

• Developing Samantha’s pop-rock sound and broadening her appeal, "Samantha Fox" features five UK hit singles, the irresistible Stock Aitken Waterman classic "Nothing’s Gonna Stop Me Now" (#8), "I Surrender (To The Spirit Of The Night)" (#25), "I Promise You (Get Ready)", "True Devotion" and "Naughty Girls (Need Love Too)" (#31) – Samantha’s first collaboration with Full Force, which reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her most successful single Stateside.

• Digitally remastered direct from the master tapes, this Deluxe Edition brings together the original 10-track album with 20 bonus tracks across two CDs. Sought-after B-sides and many 12" mixes originally only issued on vinyl feature alongside two unheard tracks, "The Right Stuff" and "Hot Tonight", which was later reworked as "Hot For You" on Samantha’s 1989 album "I Wanna Have Some Fun". Also featured are unheard mixes of "I Surrender (To The Spirit Of The Night)" and Samantha’s cover of the Stones’ classic "(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction", which was initially considered for release as a sixth single from the album in mid-1988.

• Compiled with personal input from Samantha herself, the extensive booklet also features many additional photos, a fully illustrated discography and recording data, full lyrics and new sleeve notes written especially for this release.

The only British female artist to score three Top Ten hits on both sides of the Atlantic in the 1980s, Samantha Fox made her name as the nation’s favourite Page Three girl before launching an enviable music career. The anthemic "Touch Me (I Want Your Body)" became a global chart-topper in 1986 and was followed by a succession of hits, including several collaborations with both the legendary Stock Aitken Waterman and US hip-hop pioneers Full Force. Samantha remains a household name, with a new album planned for 2012 and live dates across Europe.

Mike Stock has opened his music archive and put some rare and unheard tracks on his website.
There is more to be added, so check out the Mike Stock Music website regularly.

Some tracks have never been heard before, like the original version of the Stock & Waterman penned Same Old Promises, sung by LeRoy Osbourne, a session singer at PWL in the early 90s. The track was later recorded by boyband Worlds Apart and ended up on their debut album Together along with another Stock/Waterman track, Experienced.

You can also listen to another much sought after track, Loving Proof by Wanda Dee, which was previously heard on The Scene Radio.

There's also the fantastic Suzette Charles tracks along with demos by Aletia Bourne, Nick Morris, Rowena Nelson and Sexton.

One of the best-remembered acts of the 80s, Cockney sisters Mel & Kim Appleby instantly conquered dance floors, charts and hearts around the world with their style, personality and a string of perfect pop anthems. Their classic album 'F.L.M.' is now given a much-anticipated Deluxe Edition 2CD reissue on Cherry Pop.
•Produced by Stock Aitken Waterman, the album reached #3 on its original release in April 1987, going platinum in the UK and topping the charts internationally with sales in excess of three million copies. 'F.L.M.' features three UK Top Ten hits – 'Showing Out (Get Fresh At The Weekend)', the classic #1 'Respectable' and the title track.
•Digitally remastered and compiled from original master tapes archived at Abbey Road and Pete Waterman’s PWL Studios, this release features no less than nineteen exclusive bonus tracks across two discs, including the 1988 Top Ten hit, 'That's The Way It Is' and its self-penned B-side, 'You Changed My Life'. Both tracks are included alongside the 'F.L.M.' album for the first time ever.
•This Deluxe Edition also presents the definitive collection of Mel & Kim's best full-length 12" mixes, many previously unreleased or never before available on CD. Remixes of all the singles feature alongside unheard versions of several album tracks including 'System' – Mel & Kim’s first PWL recording and intended debut single, 'Feel A Whole Lot Better', 'I'm The One Who Really Loves You' and the soulful 'More Than Words Can Say' – widely considered to be SAW’s best-ever downtempo production.
•Kim Appleby has generously contributed an exclusive commentary to this release. The extensive booklet also features a reversible cover, an illustrated discography, additional photos and brand new sleeve notes from PWL consultant Tom Parker.
Mel & Kim's debut single, 'Showing Out', hit #3 in November 1986, and in February 1987 'Respectable' became the first Stock Aitken Waterman composition to top the charts. Combining a streetwise pop sensibility with transatlantic house grooves, Mel & Kim became a global sensation. But at the height of their fame, Mel was diagnosed with cancer. Facing relentless media attention with dignity and characteristic humour while she underwent treatment, the duo released a brand new single in February 1988 – 'That's The Way It Is'. Tragically, Mel's health deteriorated and she passed away in January 1990, aged just 23.

In late 1990, Kim made her solo debut with the #2 hit, 'Don't Worry', from a self-titled album that she had mainly co-written with Mel. Further singles followed over the next four years, including 'G.L.A.D.', 'Mama', 'Breakaway' and 'Free Spirit', which found her reuniting with Stock & Aitken. Following her own nomination for 'Don't Worry', since 2002 Kim has chaired the judging panel for Best Contemporary Song at BASCA's annual Ivor Novello Awards. She continues to write and record, as well as acting on stage, TV and film.

'F.L.M.' is the latest Hit Factory classic to be reissued on Cherry Pop, following a host of popular releases from Big Fun, Boy Krazy, Hazell Dean, Lonnie Gordon, Haywoode, the London Boys, Princess, Sinitta, Mandy Smith and Sonia.
