...but I'm not feeling blue! This blue mystery fabric which I found @ Walmart almost 9

years ago, finally became something, lol ;-) It's a kinda linen like fabric, but with a lil stretch to it. I still have a ton left, since I couldn't walk away from a bargain. If you're a stasher like me, there may be quite

a few fabrics that don't know who they wanna be in your stash too!!

Speaking of fabric stashes, I think I have a problem. Some fabrics in my stash, are too nice to be cut! I keep saying, I must find the perfect pattern for you!! Seriously, I can't cut them! Hopefully, with some of the new Fall releases, I'll find patterns that are worthy enuff for my lovely fabrics. I'm seriously digging some of the new Vogue releases, they look pretty promising!! Btw, Am I the only one with this problem?! O-o

This dress has become one of my favorites over the summer, it wears easily and fits comfy. I suppose the fabric choice plays a big role as well as design. No alterations were needed this time around for me, although for Divas my height (5'9) this is where the hemline stops if no alts are made. Usually I'll add 2-3" but the length is okay, considering the temps in my area.

I'm Back!!! and ready for the Challenge

It's great to get back to blogging, let me dust around this place and move some things around, whew... much better, lol. Oh wow, some serious time has passed since my last post. I'm still sewing as usual, just not posting. There was soo much going on in my life outside of sewing that needed my immediate attention (Salon Life) that I had to focus on, and owning a salon,... can be challenging.

Anywho, enuff of that,......I'm ready for a new challenge

OVER THE TOP...A 15 DAY CHALLENGE

Yep, nothing like a deadline to get you up and going, after a hiatus huh?
My picks are pretty much, work attire and basically what I love to wear for work! I'm a little behind starting this challenge, but i love when Ms.Faye does these challenges, it motivates me to get a move on so I'm more focused! Plus it takes my mind off other things when I'm sewing. My personal challenges, and I hope I get them done on time are:

I like the view with the pink top, I'm loving the sleeves on this one plus I spotted a similar top in the mall the other day.

I think view A will be appropriate for work.

It's funny, collars give me the blues but I love the way they look, lol. The view in red is where I'm leaning. Maybe in hot pink? I dunno....

I realize the top above this is pretty similar, but I like that this one, has a yoke. None of the shirts I've made has this, however most that I've purchased do. It seems to sit better on my shoulders, so this will be a new one for me, and maybe a tnt.

I like this one because I believe I have this same stripy green/aqua fabric in my stash,

plus no collar, lol.

I've started the process of cutting out all patterns and making adjustments, fortunately few were needed this time.:-) With all the shirts on my lineup, the machine I just purchased should come in handy. My other machines did terrible buttonholes so I purchased this machine on Amazon.com.

I like that it has several buttonholes to chose from, plus it's overall a decent machine for the price.

Well, I guess it's time to get busy, so more is coming soon!

Well, I’ll still kinda wear it....and Happy Halloween

Yep, this dress wore me out a little, but I’ll still kinda wear it. I’ve had this pattern for a while, and you know I like anything with inseam pockets, so I was just waiting to find what I wanted to make it with. Now I’ve had this plaid/check fabric (hard to see, but click to enlarge images) I purchased from Denver fabrics for 2 years. I’ve always wanted to try using more than 1 color combinations, so this pattern S2888 seemed perfect!
But first, … let me rewind. I’ve actually attempted this combo before earlier this year with this pattern by vogue…

It’s V8633 and I love that vintage look,…. but some how I goofed in several places. Can you see in this pic?

At first glance maybe not, but look closely at the hip area, wth!! I ‘m still scratching my head,
and the shoulders…..

It’s like I’m lopsided or something, after I put in the zip, well anywho.
Basically it didn’t work out :-( I had some really major fit issues everywhere, so needless to say, it’s somewhere balled up @ the back of my closet.

Sooo…

I couldn't give up on the color combo, so I tried it again with this pattern, here’s the first shot.

Okay, not too bad @ 1st glance but…. once again, somehow I goofed in my alteration process. First off I made a FBA, which wasn't that hard to do. I even made a muslin of the bodice to make sure the fit was good, here.

But in the process I also altered the waistline part, to match up to the bodice, and boy is it big and shapeless!! I didn't pay much attention to it thru the whole construction process either, lol.

Until I tried it on, after I completely finished the dress. Yes, I can go back and rip the seams apart to make it fit underneath the breast more better but @ this point….no! Maybe later, when I can figure out exactly what to do. But for the time being , I ‘ll still kinda wear it…. lol.

Oh, and I’m not giving up on V8633 just yet, I do like the idea of trying it in yellow and black.

More Flounce with M6024

I have to confess, this has got to be one of my favorite patterns from McCalls. In fact I’ve actually managed to make all views, so you know by now I don't need instructions for this right, (lol). This time I decided to try out my binder foot and I’ve been itching to use this attachment since I picked it up last year. I’m glad I got it, because it’s soo much easier to use than the snap-on I originally had (this one is a low shank by Brother). I decided to use a prepackaged binding in red on the flounces and I lurved it! The trim helped define the flounces and break up the busy pattern print a bit, so that worked out well. Although I haven't quite mastered fabric content/descripts, I know it’s a cotton blend that I picked up from Joanns last year, it’s not stiff but very light weight so it moves well, and I do love fabric that flows….

I’m moving this dress off my “cutting table” list, (if I can figure out how to do that, technically)and showing her completed! Here’s my Review:

Pattern Description: Wrapped, A-line dresses A, B, C, mid-knee length, have neck flounce and ties; dress A has faced armholes; dress B has flutter sleeves and purchased bias tape for binding edges; dresses A, B have hemline flounce; dress C has above elbow length sleeves and lower flounce; separate pattern pieces provided for A/B, C, D cup sizes.
Pattern Sizing: varies 6-20, I cut a 14
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Pretty much
Were the instructions easy to follow? Very, in fact I didn't need them this go round
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? There’s no dislikes here, I simply love all views!
Fabric Used: A cotton blend

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The great thing I like about this pattern is the different cup sizes. This alleviates my usual fba, so I used the D-cup bodice which worked well for me. I also decided to trim with red binding to jazz up the print which I lurv btw. ;-)
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? This is actually my 3rd time making this, soo yea. :-) It’s easy so try it!
Conclusion: By now you know I love this dress and all other versions of it I’ve made! Wrap dresses are my fav, and sewing another one was a breeze.

Machine Talk

I hope your day is going well and the sewing fairies are being good to you! Unfortunately, the sewing troll stopped by my place and cursed my baby, so I’ll be dropping her off @ the E.R. Her screen was unresponsive, so I’m unsure of her fate (depending on cost)! Mr. Troll also tried to steal my mojo, but dat aint happening, so I called in for backup and she don't play! She’s a mean, green sewing machine that’s been handed down 3 generations!

Say hellu to Ms.Minnie

Ms.Minnie belonged to my Grannie, whom I named my machine after. My father had her for many years (he also sewed btw!) before he passed away. I remember my Grannie making her quilts with this machine when I was a kid! I didn't kno my father still kept her after all these years, and I’m glad he saved her for me and my baby!

She can sew thru 6-layers of denim, like butta, Oh-Yeah!!
She uses cams, but I’m unfamiliar with which type to use. If anyone can recommend which type, It would really help. I’m also trying to figure out which buttonholer to get, I’ve purchased (2) on Ebay but they didn't fit well. One was for a slant which the seller didn't list, the other just simply didn't fit. Ms. Minnie is a 57’ White, low shank with zig-zag if that could help. Did I mention she is heavy, whoa!!!

Not a LBD, but a LB&WD….B5491

Okay, okay, I realize this dress has been on the “In Progress” side of the page for some time now... truth is, I forgot how to change it, and it’s been completed for a few months! This little dress has some versatility for me since I’ve worn it on an evening out, and to the festival in the park. I think it’s pretty jazzy but the midriff had me confused a little. Ok maybe not confused, but I must confess I am very lazy when it comes to hand sewing, grrrr! Please don't poke me with needles, I know! But the midriff requires some hand sewing and me…. well, I’m all about quick, fast, and right now.

The fabric is a knit I purchased @ High Fashion Fabrics, and it is soo lovely! It has weight but it’s lightweight with a beautiful drape, (yeah explained that clearly didn't I, lol) Well this is clearly not a LBD, but it’s my Little Black & White Dress, and its special!

Pattern Description: Loose-fitting, flared dresses A, B, below mid-knee or evening length, have lined, gathered v-neck bodice, neck band, front draped midriff and back zipper.
Pattern Sizing: Varies 6-20, I used a 14
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, I thought so

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, very straight forward
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I hate any hand stitching, but it really added to the overall look of the dress so all is good in the world, lol.
Fabric Used: A knit, that’s all I kno

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: No major changes were made, I just omitted the zip since it’s a knit.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? It’s a great dress, I think you’d like it. ;-)

Conclusion: Overall it’s an easy sew, I love knits so I may be biased, lol. Pretty versatile, heels or sandals work well with the dress design.

I must say that I do love, love knits you’re not the only one Victoria, lol. I’ve been sewing knits all summer @ least that’s what it looks like in my closet! But I’ve been working on a few woven's too, I actually need to get my review up on m6024, that’s also been lingering on my sidebar as well. Well, that’s my LB&WD.

It’z my birthday, get busy, It’z my birthday get busy…..(as I do the running man, lol)

I kicked the door open last year, and joined the 20/20 club and today it’s 20/20 plus 1!

Heck, I feel good and my hubby sais I look great, he’s a sweetie. But most importantly I thank my Lord and savior Jesus Christ for allowing me to see 41! amen!!!!

I've had this pattern in my stash for quite a while, just saving it for that “right fabric”. It’s got to have the right color, flow and drape etc, etc, etc. Now, I know I cant be the only one that does that?…., saving patterns or saving fabric,…. but then again I can be a bit special like that, lol. As I was going thru my blogroll, I came across this post by Sharon. The post title alone, was – tha - truth, (Twirl baby twirl!) I sooo loved her dress, fabric and all! Where did she find that funky fabric, it’s perfect …..wait a minute……hold up, don’t I have something like that in my stash somewhere!? What? ……… Sharon, you’ve inspired a copycat, lol.

Pattern Description: calf length dress has semi-fitted, pleated and lapped bodice, bias skirt with inseam pockets and stitched hems
Pattern Sizing: I used a 14

I did what’s becoming my usual, a fba. I also added 2 in. to the bodice and decided to sew the tie together so the wrong side didn't show. Oh, and I decided to leave my hem raw! Let it hang a bit before hemming.

Yes, she’s a keeper, I do recommend.
Conclusion:
This was a really easy sew, the instructions were very clear and it definitely has twirl appeal !

Ever been to a 70's Party

Have you ever been to a 70's party?
Well, I've been to a few, and they are hilarious, lol!!! A couple weeks ago, my co-worker decided to plan one for her husband, who was turning 50, so my husband and I decided to go! (seriously, I really didn't think he would dress up, ha-ha). There are shops all around town, that cater to vintage and 70' themed parties, so we decided to rent our "get-ups" from a place called "Color Explosion". The visit to the store is so nostalgic, the clothing is a mixture of disco and seventies. There, you can rent the entire outfit which includes, wig, shoes, cane, cape (lol) and accessories! Now, originally I was given a blonde fro, but it was Florida Evans size, ("Good Times") and I wasn't feeling baby fro, so I called up Mom!

                              Me: Mama, they gave me a baby afro,
                           Mom: They gave you what?
                              Me: Florida Evans size, I think it's too little..... Mama, do u happen to
                                      have any afro wigs laying round somewhere?
                           Mom: lol, What color you need baby?
                              Me: (screaming) Dat's my mama!!!

(That's me fist in the air, lol)

My dh is pretty easy going, so I knew he would come, but I felt there was no way he would participate by dressing according to theme. Boy, did he surprise me not only did he dress-up accordingly, lol, he even wore a wig and gold boots to match mine, lmao!!

There was actually a dress that matched my dh's outfit, but someone else rented it that night!

There were disco balls, soul train lines and scramble boards, lol. We had a blast. A few had their decades confused, but it still was all good, lol. I always wanted to be on Soul Train.......

I kno it's pic heavy, and off topic, but we had a ball! Thought I'd share.

That's a Wrap!

I've been meaning to post this review for quite a while now, and yep, I can be a bit trife on occasion, lol. But seriously it's been so freakin hot here in Houston, I can barely focus on any one thing!! Schools out so I'm busy with the kids, work and home life, I swear sometimes I feel like all my energy is being zapped away every time I step outside. Truly, my only escape from this madness is my little sewing nook, my retreat, lol.

But back to my dress, now I realize it's been reviewed on PR like 67 gazillion times, and it's on the 2007 and 2008 best patterns list an all, oh, not to mention 2009 Hall of Fame, but anywayz, I still needed to try it out for myself, I mean, it's simply a classic!

Vogue 8379

Pattern Description:

Wrap front dress has soft pleats, side tie, and sleeve variations.

Pattern Sizing:

BB(8-10-12-14), FF(16-18-20-22)

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Pretty much!

Were the instructions easy to follow?

Very easy

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

It's a classic wrap dress so I love that, but what I didnt like is the short bodice, what!?

The sleeves were a bit snug and that facing.......

Fabric Used:

A knit

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

Well, let's see..... I added 2 inches to the bodice to lengthen it, (next time 3.5) and I used steam a seam to help that wonky facing that wants to flip out!

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

Yes, I do plan to sew this again with more adjustments like a fba, adding more length to the bodice

and sleeves.

Conclusion:

Aside from my minor adjustments, I too really like this dress! I can definitely see this being a TNT dress for me since I love wrap dresses.

Btw, do you like my little fall/wig I picked up? It's great when I'm being lazy with my hair, lol!

I'm over it now tho, hubby likes it short.

Vogue top

I don't sew many Vogue patterns, although I've managed to collect quite a few (uhmm like 78, but whoz counting). No real reason, but that's already changed,lol. I've been meaning to finish this top for some time, and as I joined Mz.Faye for the, "Spring Month of Tops", I decided to add this top to my completed list. Although I probly wont wear it this spring, it'll be ready for the Fall!

Pattern Description:

Tunics A, B, C have front and back upper gathers, neck binding, lower elastic casing and raglan sleeve variations. A: sleeves with elastic casing. B: three-quarter length flared sleeves. C: gathered sleeves and sleeve binding.

Pattern Sizing:
sizes range 8-24, I used the 14, and made view C.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, very

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like that it was very easy to make, and pretty forgiving to wear.

Fabric Used:
A knit fabric from Walmart

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
None

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes/yes

Conclusion
This was a very easy top as stated by Vogue. Very Hippy and goes great with heels and a pair of jeans.

What a jazzy little dress! I'm just luvin the cut-outs on the sleeves and that low open back, too cute. I've been a fan of Cythia Rowley patterns for some time, and she never disappoints, with her fun and trendy styles. So, I decided to go with a light-weight denim fabric, for my version of this dress and I'm pretty pleased with it! I love that it has inseam pockets, now I really dig pockets an all, but they can be a snitch for me to get right, lol. I also needed a drink to figure out those sleeve too, but I still love my dress tho, lol. Btw, I'm sure you kno this is not a bra friendly dress, right?

Pattern Description:

Misses' dress in three lengths with sleeve variations by Cynthia Rowley

Pattern Sizing:
size range 6-22, I made the 14, view B

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow?
They were okay, I got confused on the sleeves.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The dress was great, but I had issues with the instructions on the sleeves, and I eventually figured those out. Honestly, I must say that I always have difficulty with inseam pockets, so surely, after a cocktail, all was well, there too.

Fabric Used:
lite-weight denim

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
None, I just did some top stitching, to give more play to the denim design.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I only need one, but the other versions want me to make them too!

Conclusion:
Although this simple looking dress, gave me a challenge, I really love the design.

Ok, this was almost too easy to make, I mean seriously there was literally only 2 pieces!
I have only one, no two gripes with this top/tunic. One, I stand @ 5'9 and this, is not a tunic on me, it's actually a dress, lol. This tunic stops right above my knees! My fault though, I didn't pay that, much attention when laying my pattern out. Two, this is not a bra friendly top! I can just remedy this by wearing a tank, but I will be cutting a few inches off the length before i can actually wear this in public. I had this top on the other day, and my daughter thought I made a cute nightgown, lol.

On the envelope this didn't look that long!! Well, anyway, although I wasn't umber happy with this top, I will wear it with a tank and trim a few inches from the length to make it an appropriate length for me. I mean its doable, lol. I think I'll be happier with view A, in the future.

This is my first Jalie pattern pattern, and I must say I love it! The instructions are pretty clear, and this top took no time tat all, lol! The only changes, I'll make in the future (cuz I can see me sewing up a slew of these, lol) is, I must do a FBA. Other than that, great top for work!

Pattern Description:

Empire crossover top with 4 sleeve variations. View A has a double-layer lower front with ruching at side seams. View B has a single-layer flat lower front. The sleeveless version has a casing and tie at shoulder seam for adjustable ruching.

Pattern Sizing:

There are 27 sizes.

Oh yes, I need more simple easy to make tops for work and I think its easy enough for beginners!

As mentioned before this was pretty fast and easy to sew, and I like fast and easy. I can see myself making more for work, but of course with an FBA, it will be even better.

This is my second pair of Jalie jeans, but my first time reviewing. I, like many others on PR, love my Jalie jeans! The fit is fantastic, I can hardly believe I made myself some jeans, lol. I thought I'd be different and embroider some sculls on my arse, lol.
Okay, well I thought they were special anyways, sooo....I got the sculls from urbanthreads.com I juz love how fun their designs are. I really would like to slim the pant leg, and make these just straight leg eventually. The fit is so good, it gives me a butt!

Pattern Description:
Women's flattering stretch jeans with slim fit through the hips and thigh and a flared leg, back and side front pockets, zip fly with button closure.
View A has a low rise (2-3 inches below the navel) and View B has a regular rise (at the navel).

Pattern Sizing:
There are 27 sizes!

Yes, I already made another pair, and I think others should give it a shot.

I really love jeans anyway, so to make my own, was a blast. The fit was great enough that I had to duplicate and make another pair! Now, I know why so many joined the great jeans sew-along.

This kimono styled top was pretty easy to sew. Although the print seems a little bold here,
it's actually pretty sheer and flowy. What attracted me most to this top, was the sleeves and the back tie! They're too cute and different, well to me anyway..

Pattern Description:

Loose fitting top A, tunic B or caftan C have raised waistline, front casing with tie ends extending into back and tied into bow; top A is below hipline length; tunic B is above mid-knee length; caftan C is above ankle length; purchased leggings.

Pattern Sizing:
Size range from 8-24. I used 14.

Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, they were ok.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Nothing to dislike, the construction was not difficult at all, although I must say, when sewing the sleeve, I didn't do a lot of pinning, (and this is an odd sleeve to sew btw.) soo one sleeve is not aligned evenly. So watch out for that, lol.

Fabric Used:
Some type of sheer fabric from Hancock.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
None

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes/Yes, I plan to make this over in a solid color sheer.

Conclusion:
This was pretty fun to make, didn't take long at all. I made some white capri's to go with this, and the top felt so cool and breezy!

Seriously tho, this is as close as I will ever get to a caftan, mu-mu or housedress, lol. Well,... unless it's a coverall for a swimsuit.....

The sun has come out, the birds are singing, It is Spring!
My sewing is in full gear for the season, and this dress is definitely screaming spring, lol.
What can I say, besides it's an easy sew, and I love ruffles, so feminine.

I know the pictures aren't the clearest, but I really dig this fabric it's a printed cotton
I purchased from High Fashion fabrics last summer. I didn't know what I wanted it to be,
but when i saw this pattern, I knew one of the views would be from this fabric. It's a wrap dress
and I'm a sucker for a wrap dress, (btw) and one of my favorite things about this one, it comes in different cup sizes, yea! It saves me time, so no FBA's needed! I actually have all views cut out and ready to be sewn, so There will be two more reviews coming from this pattern!
It's just so Spring, and I really like it!

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, very well written.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? No dislikes. I love the diffrent cup sizes, so no fba was needed and that's a plus.

Fabric Used: Printed cotton

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: No alterations were needed, but I rolled the hem on the ruffles/flounces.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes/Yes

Conclusion : This dress reminds me of spring and it was a very easy sew. I do have all views cut out and ready sew, if that's any indication how much I like this. What can I say, I love a wrap dress, and the length is perfect for me.

When I made this Maxi, I was pleasantly surprised how quickly it sewed up!
Now, usually I get stumped following the instructions in Burda, but yep, this was smooth sailing for me. I was also happy with the fabric I purchased from Joann's too, it had a great
drape to it and the print is also pretty vibrant. I traced this almost as soon as I got the mag. in July. I added 3" to the length because of my height to get that true Maxi look, all the ones i tried on over the summer always stopped above my ankles, yeech! It was refreshing to be able
to make it the way I liked! I've since, made the tube to go underneath, as Tany suggested in
her blog, which allowed me to wear a bra comfortably because of the low back!

Pattern Description: Halter dress, The back is loosely wrapped and attached tie-bands shape the waist.

Pattern Sizing: 36-44

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, easy peasy!

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? This was a very easy sew, I made it in 3 hours which is a good time for me. Dislikes, well... the back is pretty low, so it's impossible to wear a bra, which I feel uncomfortable not wearing, :-/

Fabric Used: Jersey Knit

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: I added 3 inches to the length.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes/ Yes, but keep in mind that it's very low-cut in the back.

Conclusion : I think I kinda like this dress, lol, it's very comfortable to wear and was a quick project for me. In the future I do plan to try a method used by Tany here on her blog to solve the low back issue.

Let me start this off by saying , my hubby thinks this dress is pretty loud! lol Okay, he may be a little right,........ somewhat, lol. Yep, it'z a busy print ....but I still really like it tho. Aside from my choice of "print" this was like my 2nd time trying B.W.O.F and it was a cool learning experience for me, the instructions were a lil short tho. Anywho, I love the relaxed casual design of this dress. The raglan sleeves, inside seam pockets, standing collar and drawstring waist, appealed to me as a throw on, dress me up or down type of dress, and I love versatility. This pattern called for using flat felled seams, which I had never tried but I actually liked the clean look. Of course, I will be making this again, in a more calmer print for the summer, hopefully the hubby will approve...............................................whateva, lol.

Pattern Description: Slightly flared mini dress with 3/4-length raglan sleeves and drawstring
waist.

Pattern Sizing: 36-44

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? They were pretty much, the usual, but understandable.

Yes, ....I know I've been a bad blogger, but I'm still around! My mojo iz still going, and I haven't stopped a bit. In all honesty, I just hadn't put aside any time to blog, and I've completed soo many projects! I'll get better in time, in fact I just recently learned something that I'm sure you, already knew about. Now, keep in mind, I'm a bit challenged with the operations of blogger, but i just realized that I can schedule my posts!! Yey!!, I can write up my posts ahead of time and schedule them to publish. Too cool, and boy do I have some reviews to write....
Let's go back to May. Yep, this was made up during the summer, and it's an easy sew.....

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, pretty E-Z.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? There were really no major dislikes, but you will need a different bra for this considering the placement of the straps . I really liked the shape and fit, especially the shoulder area.

Fabric Used: Stretch cotton sateen

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: I raised the upper bodice/collar area up a tad bit.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes/ Yes very few pieces and easy to sew up!

Conclusion This was a very easy dress to sew up, straight out the envelope! It only took a few hours to finish up, and I wore it to church the very next day. It's pretty versatile for any occasion and can be worn with the belt included in the pattern or a purchased one. Luved it!

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? No real dislikes, the pattern was otherwise simple, no sideseams, zipper instructions was somewhat questionable tho, lol.

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: Uh, where do I start! Okay, first off this is a great pattern if using the suggested fabric. Since hubby and I, were doing a Matrix theme, I wanted to use the patent. I adjusted the pattern as needed, 2" on leg length, 1" on arm length, and for the torso I added 2 more inches since i knew the fabric didn't stretch that way, lol. Lawd I should've made a large!!! Unfortunately, the stretch in this fabric was not nearly enough, I had to add a 1.5" panel on each side of the zip, so that it could close properly! I also decided to make my zipper exposed and added in vertical darts to give it more shaping.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yep, but not this version, but I do plan to make the other versions for my yoga classes...in the appropriate fabric tho, lol.

Conclusion After the alterations, it really turned out great, hubby and I were a hit @ the costume party so it was fine. I'll be reviewing his costume "simplicity 5386" soon as I can locate the memory card!

My first entry in the," Month of Tops." is NewLook 6952.

This is my 2nd attempt @ a FBA, so i think I'm getting better. I love oxford type shirts so I plan to make a few more for work.

I love the color and the stretch of this poplin fabric, it goes perfectly with this denim skirt! As you can see I'm not quite finished with the buttons. I haven't purchased any yet, lol. But the buttons will be hidden under the placket and it will be a min. before I make it to the fabric store. In my eyes she's basically complete.

Pattern Description: Misses shirt, 5 different variations (I chose style E)

Pattern Sizing: Sizes 8-18, I made a 14

Conclusion This was pretty simple and easy to sew, after making my adjustments. What drew me to this style was the hidden buttons look, cuffs and the simple collar without a stand. I do plan to make a few more, as this is perfect for work!

My inspiration came from this post from Erica B., I love, loved her skirt! When I saw her version I knew I wanted to make a similar one. I never thought about doing it in denim, plus her top stitching details were also awesome.

Okay, now my topstitching needs a little work, but it's not very noticeable, lol. I do need to finish pressing that zip tho.

This one is a TNT skirt for me, I've done every variation of this skirt! I'll post them at a later time.

As I mentioned in a couple of posts back, I'm playing catch-up! This was one of my many summer dresses which I love, the color is so vibrant! Now, anyone who knows me, also knows that I kinda stear clear of color,lol. I'm a "Black-Out" chic, open my closet and that's all you get, lol!

Well, after my client asked me, do I ever wear any color? It got me to thinking, this year, I will only make and buy fabrics in color....time for a change.

Pattern Description: It's described as a special occasion dress, I chose view C.

Pattern Sizing: Most sizes, I chose a 14

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, they were ok, although I got a bit lost on the casing instructions.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? yes, and maybe the longer version!

Conclusion I thought this was a pretty cute dress overall, i like the fabric especially. I just got a bit lost on the casing instructions and had to come back to it the next day! .........Umm nope, that didn't help much, lol. So I improvised, and that worked for me! This is great for our hot summers here, (fall too!) and it only took 2 evenings to finish!

This was my first try @ an invisible zipper, and it was easy peasy with the right foot!

There were a couple issues, with the casing on this dress, I just didnt get it, so I improvised. I've been experimenting with bust adjustments lately and one was needed here. Next time I feel a lil more confident in trying to make a FBA. There are so many wonderful bloggers, that took time out and walked me thru this process, and I thank you, so much because I'm a visual learner!

First off, when I saw this I thought it was adorable! I love the ruffles and of course a sheath dress is a classic. But seriously, ...I have fitting issues, ... and this is a fitted dress! I really wanted this dress for a holiday party, but I have never done a bust adjustment, ...which is really needed. Well, I purchased this pattern when it was on sale, and traced the front and back bodice pieces to practice on. I also found my only and favorite book on fitting, Fit for Real People, by Palmer Pletsch.
I followed the instructions and they were really good, but I know I need more work on this. I made several muslins for 5972, and my dart placement is still questionable, lol.

It's not complete, I still need to finish the arm holes and hemming. I'll consider this a wearable muslin, lol. Eeeew, I could just scream, the chiffon, the chiffon well it wasn't very hard to work with as I thought. A little starch and she was easy to cut and sew, however, once again I did this......

Yep, I burned a hole, right in the front..............uh, huh, yes i did. I've lost several cool points for that, lol. And, and... my darts are too, I dont know..lol. Basically, I'm unsure on HOW to correctly place them after the adjustment. The fit is okay, but them darts are pointing to high upwards, or something, lol.

I love the dress, the instructions overall were very easy to follow. So I will muster up the courage to try this again, the party isnt until November so I do have a lil time.

I just need to go to FBA school, before I conquer another fitted bodice that's not a knit!

B.W.O.F. 7/09 - 117

Up until now, I've never sewn anything from BWOF, I've actually been quite intimidated by the whole tracing aspect, and sewing without actual construction pictures, lol. Well, the July issue I must say was really my style'. I heard soo many reviews on PR, about the 2/09 issue, (which I am still hunting for, btw) I was sure I missed the better issues. Then, my mag arrived and I almost couldn't decide what I wanted to try first, so I kept it simple for my first try!

I picked this top, since it was one dot and considered pretty easy, and believe me it was! I decided to use one of the vibrant border fabrics from High Fashion Fabrics, it's very light-wt and cool. The instructions originally called for 10 rows of shirring, but I seriously needed like 15 more, in a addition to that! The top perimeter band, i decided to use a rolled hem, in a contrasting black instead of hemming. It seems to pop against the red. I also hemmed the bottom using a rolled hem to match the top.

I added about 4 extra inches to the length to show off the print. It's originally tunic length, but i rock this as a dress with leggings of course! Instead of using the zig-zag stitch across the elastic, i used the elastic thread in my bobbin for shirring which worked out better imo!

Overall, I really like this simple but cute top, It's been worn several times this summer, lol.
I've got even more, pieces out of this issue that i will be reviewing coming up soon.

It's been a while so I'm catching up, lol! Okay, months ago I visited one of my favorite fabric stores here in Houston, "High Fashion Fabrics" I scored some really nice pieces! Which btw, I've already managed to sew up.

The one on the left is a navy knit, The red which I love is dotted, with a great border, you'll see
what I've done with that coming up!

Great cotton prints which I love.

This knit fabric feels so fab, and the colors are tdf!

I can never get enuff cotton sateen fabrics and these have stretch! I've sewn
these up already as well.

I'm Still Here! and Coverstitch Machines

Hello fellow bloggers, I'm still around, lol!
It's been a very busy and rather hot summer here in Houston. I do have quite a few projects that I've worked on this summer, just haven't had time to post them, however I will get to that very soon! School is about to start again, (yey, lol!) which gives me mornings to sew. I've been reading some of my favorite blogs, in the evenings during the work week, which keeps me motivated ( Sunday's is my only full day to sew, btw). Between work and keeping the kids busy this "Super Hot" summer, I've managed to complete one or two projects a week! So basically, I'm still doing my thing, lol. Unfortunately, the construction of my sewing room hasn't happened, even tho I keep hinting at my DH, who also promised to get me a coverstitch.....

Speaking of which, I'm sort of torn between two models. Firstly, quite a few peeps on PR, seem to love the Janome CP 1000, and there's also a following for the Brother 2340CV. Now, I must admit that I like the extra room the Janome has, kinda reminds me of a regular sewing machine, but where do u buy those special needles? The Brother uses pretty attainable needles, and the price is good online, but some people have problems with tention and basic operating of this one. I dont kno, do I really need one? Okay, maybe it's more of a want, but I really think i need/want one! I love how they finish hems on knits and apply binding, eew, and that's another bonus too! I think I need an intervention or something, I have too many machines as it iz,....but they all do something different, ya kno.
