Phew..... lots of design in NYC over the past couple of weeks. I have so much to report. I will be focusing on a light series called Celebrating light, where you will discover novel innovations in lighting design and technology. Enjoy!

7 piece cluster lighting fixture by Iacoli & McAllister comes in brass or copper now! Bling, bling! I have seen it in matte black too. The fixture can be separated into individual pieces or clustered into a significant size pendant. Love the felxibility!

Inspired from natural phenomena with complex and unconventional geometries, Nervous System design company is creating some intricate affordable lighting, jewelry and tables using 3d-printing. Artful lighting fixtures by Apparatus Studio showcased the merging of modern form with handcrafted materials like brass, hand etched glass, leather and found object.....If you close enough, the leather looks like the texture of a tree trunk. So interesting!!

Illumi are radial bands of lit wonder by Radius by Celadon Group. Made in Denmark, the fixtures are constructed from recycled aircraft-grade aluminum that offers intense indirect light. You can program 26 colors and it comes in a range of metal finishes.

Do you have a spare room in your home that you do not know what to do with? The task of designing your spare room is no small undertaking.... while the decor and feel of the room have to be aligned with your tastes, it’s important to remember that you’re not the person who’s likely to be spending a lot of time in there, so the room’s appeal must be universal, but cool of-course!

Here are a few tips to spruce up your spare room:

Decide on its use...

Before you begin purchasing new furniture for the room, or selecting color schemes, sit down and give some thought to how you intend to use the room so it doesn't end up looking like an uncomfortable blend of conflicting ideas.. If it’s primarily going to be for guests, remember this and decorate the room accordingly. There is nothing wrong with mixed-use spare rooms, but it’s best to decide on how they’re going to be used advance of decoration.

Get rid of all your clutter....

Whatever good intentions you may have, spare rooms often become a dumping ground for all of the items that you can’t find space for in the rest of your home. Especially books that keep piling up and up, like in the image above....Redecorating your spare room is, therefore, the perfect opportunity to get rid of all your clutter.

Before making any changes to the decor or furniture arrangements, clear the room of all the items that you never use and consider giving away donating them to a local charity shop.

Go for neutral colors....

Whether you have decided to turn your spare room into a home office or a guest room, neutral colors are always the best choice when it comes to decor.

Grays and taupes are the new neutral for 2013 and are inherently welcoming to all. Neutral colors always give you the option to easily change the purpose of the room at a later date, if your circumstances and needs should change.

Opt for some space savers...

When it comes to decorating a spare room, space is traditionally at a premium; it is, therefore, wise to invest in some space-saving items like sofa beds. The London based company Sainsbury have a range of sofa beds and is an exceptionally comfortable sofa bed for your spare room that is both functional and helps to create the illusion of extra space. Other space saving items on your Sainsbury’s shopping list could include shelving and stackable storage boxes. When trying to make the most of your spare room, it’s all about creating as much floor space as possible.

A well lit room should have two or three different light sources, including ambient lighting, accent lighting and task lighting. Strategically placed mirrors reflect light from lamps and create the illusion of space, too. Love the look of different sized mirrors in the industrial-chic image above.

Industrial MOD Must Have: Urban Chandy

Brooklyn based Urban Chandy creates really cool industrial Mod chandeliers that combine Edison and antique bulbs suspended from rescued and reclaimed wood and other materials like old-fashioned tin ceiling panels and doors. The combined effect is mesmerizing. Founder and designer Cassidy Brush told me that Urban Chandy grew from a single unique lighting fixture that she created for her office. (see pic below) A former fashion sales executive and entrepreneur found a gap in the lighting market without even realizing it. The rest is history..everyone wants a "chandy!'

Mosaic Urban Chandy at BKLYN Designs

The Mosaic Urban Chandy showcased at BKLYN DESIGNS featured a 45" X 45" base made out of Northeastern yellow pine - some of the pieces retained its natural aged finish while others were stained ebony, white, gray and orange. And for a little bling, the 50 pendants were held within beautiful copper hardware making the piece really distinctive!

WOOD IMPROVISATION: ERIC MANIGIAN at DUMBO'S BKLYN DESIGNS 2013

BKLYN DESIGNS in Dumbo is back! Some incredible talent exhibited....

This week I will be showcasing some of my faves like Eric Manigian Studio, a wood furniture innovator. His attention to detail is incredible and his work is a collaboration with the wood- letting the grain pattern and other natural features of the wood drive the creative process. An improvisational process, every piece is unique.

His newest sculptural creation below was inspired by the language of draping in fashion design. Manigian explained that he was inspired by fashion designer Alexander McQueen and how he plays between covering the body and discreetly exposing it. Here the wood organically drapes across its mid-line like a garment peels away from necklines and shoulders. The best surprise was on the inside... where the juxtaposition of frosted glass meets the opacity of curving wood. It created a a peek-a-boo effect like a backless dress. Love it!

His other creation utilized wood that was originally unusable. He stacked the re-purposed wood one by one and created pockets of open geometries. Besides the unique design, the quality of the craftsmanship proves that he is designing furniture that is made to last.

Today I am giving you my angle on Nashville's FINEST Farmers Market!!!

Such a great feeling when you buy fresh, right??

A few weeks ago, we ventured out on a beautiful day to check out the Farmers market!! We were told it one of the best, and it did NOT disappoint. We became avid farmers Market go'ers while in New York, especially when I worked right down in the Flatiron district, just 2 block away form the Union Square Market..I use to go there for lunch, all fresh food all the time...ahhhh...I loved those days, but I don't miss them, and I am so super excited to find out that Nashville has a Farmers Market that is open 7 Days a week!!

I love the fresh crisp color of veggies!! They always make for beautiful photos!! Nothing quite like a farmers market to help ease into your new community!! I love shopping local!! Do you have a farmers Market where you are at??

Design tips to give your Kitchen a Modern Facelift

Many people spend a lot of time in the kitchen area of their home, whether it is to prepare and cook meals, eat or entertain. The kitchen is the hub of the home. This is why the kitchen is one of the rooms that many homeowners are keen to improve when it comes to giving the home a facelift. Wouldn't you love to entertain in the above kitchen designed by kitchen designer Susan Serra? I like its modern- traditional mixture!!

A practical, comfortable and modern kitchen area is something that many people want – and something that can be created with relative ease. You don't have to have your whole kitchen ripped out and replaced in order to give it a facelift – there are many far more affordable, yet highly effective options you can choose in order to create a fresh, modern look on a budget.

Here are five tips and steps to give your kitchen a fresher look:

Painting the cupboards: rather than having your units ripped out and replaced, which can be costly, why not use special cupboard paint to give them a new look? You can simply freshen them up with a touch of paint or you can change the color for a whole new look. Decorating the room: a lick of paint, new wallpaper or unique tiles on the walls can help freshen up your kitchen. With the right choice of colors, you can add texture, pattern or make your kitchen appear more open and spacious. Sort out the lighting: having a single bulb dangling lamely from a cable in the ceiling does nothing for the appeal of your kitchen. So, if that sounds like your current lighting, splurge on some new light fixtures that are practical and chic. Put several in a grid to make it look mod as well as help improve lighting in the kitchen. In the above image, kitchen designer Rebecca Reynolds is a master in showcasing cool lighting elements.

Du Verre Hardware

Freshen up your accessories: when you replace your old kitchen accessories you will be able to instantly add some sparkle to your kitchen. This could include anything from unique, and sculptural cabinet hardware, shown in the above image from DuVerre Hardware, to worktop surfaces. You can also add new accessories, such as modern stools or a bistro table and chairs.

Replace old appliances: if you have kitchen appliances that are the worse for wear, it may be worth considering replacing these. This will help to give your kitchen a whole new look while also providing you with increased practicality and convenience. Look at appliances such as your fridge/freezer, dishwasher and cooktop to see whether you could benefit from upgraded models. While some of these tips are more costly than others to implement, they can all help to have a dramatic effect on the overall finish of your revamped kitchen!

UPDATE: MOMA'S RETHINKING OF DEMOLISHING FOLK ART

Sunken heads and sullen faces rejoice! Yesterday's New York times article stated that the Museum of Modern Art is reconsidering its plan to demolish the American Folk Art museum! See past article.

"AFTER impassioned protests from prominent architects, preservationists and design critics, the Museum of Modern Art said on Thursday that it would reconsider its decision to demolish its next-door neighbor, the former home of the American Folk Art Museum, to make room for an expansion."

Very exciting news! Thanks to all who signed the petition to save this architectural significant building designed by architects Tod Williams & Billie Tsien. See the New York Times article.

More good news... the design firm Diller Scofidio & Renfro will be handling the expansion and providing an architectural solution to keep the existing building in some manner. Diller Scofidio is another fave architect team of mine. I have faith that they will devise a plan to preserve and integrate the Folk Arts structure or at least its folded facade into MOMA's existing fabric. But the fight is definitely not over! What is going to happen to Folk Art is still an "open question," stated Jerry Speyer, the real estate developer and MOMA chairman.

Lets keep fighting! I would appreciate if you haven't signed the petition to please do it now and forward to some of your friends!!

I live in a resort community, and know some of the best places to recommend to visitors. To me, the word “best” means a combination of popular tourist spots and local favorites. So in this post you’ll get just a sea-salty whiff of some of the downtown places I prefer.

Everyone stops at the Santa Barbara Courthouse, and you should too. It’s a working courthouse and you can take an elevator all the way to the clock tower. Cultural events, festivals, public demonstrations, weddings, holiday celebrations - all are held in the expansive garden area. I got married in this corner of the garden in 1992.

SANTA BARBARA COURTHOUSE

C’est Cheese imports cheese from around the world; from mild to super stinky. Around the corner from the Presidio, you can get just cheese to take home or for a picnic, or you can order lunch and eat outside in the sun. The owners will happily let you practice your French on them. It’s gotten so popular that it’s expanding to take up the entire corner. Bring on the Stink!

C’EST CHEESE

I was walking from the courthouse to get a picture of the Arts & Letters Cafe inside Sullivan Goss-an American Gallery , when I stopped to snap this building. It looks like a combination condo/ office building, yet what intrigued me was that it’s actually the front of a parking structure. Kind of fancy, and a clever use of precious downtown space.

Besides the fact that the owners of the art gallery (with the cafe tucked inside the gallery, yet actually outdoors - got that?) are my next-door neighbors, I enjoy this spot because owner Frank Goss is a genius at putting on exhibits. Andrew Wyeth is going on display in a few days. Who wouldn’t want to eat in this spot, surrounded by engaging art?

ARTS & LETTERS CAFE INSIDE SULLIVAN GOSS

Directly across the street from Sullivan Goss is the public library. The exterior isn’t exactly my style, but it is impressive. And lest you think S.B. is provincial, the library is HUGE.

LIBRARY

Next door to the library, on State Street (worth a walk just to window shop and people-watch. It’s the main road in downtown), is the Museum of Art. Yup, we do love art here! While you’re doing that walk down State Street, look carefully at the buildings. This door is just one example of the Spanish heritage we have here. As you can see, lots of courtyards are tucked away here too.

After this quick romp through Santa Barbara, drive over to the Daily Grind for coffee and breakfast or lunch. Of course, as you can see from this empty bottom shelf, they sell out quickly. I got the last cranberry streusel muffin to complement my vanilla decaf latte. You will find yourself surrounded by locals here, as visitors tend to stick to the chain coffee spots on State Street. You’ll also find plenty of parking!

THE DAILY GRIND

If you ever come to Santa Barbara, take an Architectural Walking Tour of the Historic downtown area. I took it a few years ago and was fascinated by the history and diversity of the buildings. Besides, the guide was an architect, so you’d get a more “official” version of downtown than I just provided.

Last night was the Gala event at the Met where celebs ROCKED it-
in honor of the exhibition PUNK: Chaos to Couture organized by the
Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The exhibition will be on view from May 9 through August 14, 2013

Industrial and Crafted: OWEN boutique by Tacklebox architecture

My architecture fave of the week is the unique 'OWEN' boutique store in the Meatpacking district of N.Y.C. by Tacklebox architecture. Gotta go, gotta go! This interior retail space has an artistic sensibility showcasing a fusion of emerging designer clothes. Tacklebox nodded to its spaces industrial roots, once being housed in a meat storage facility, auto storage and a floral shop. The firm thoughtfully juxtaposed industrial materials with the handmade in its 1,800 square foot space ....concrete floors, exposed brick walls with beautiful crafted injections.

The wow factor is its hand-built wall that defines the space arching from floor to ceiling. Look closely...its constructed of 25,000 flame retardant paper bags, creating a beautiful geometric honey-comb like pattern and structure. Can you imagine how many hours it took to staple each bag?

All the merchandise rests on industrial like materials in contrast to the paper sculptural volume. Clothes sit on quartz slab tables, and hang from blackened steel-hang-bars.

Designer Michael Aram celebrates craft, metal and nature. From tableware to furniture, his work reflects the handmade process. One can entirely experience his collections' soulful and artisanal energy in his flagship store in Chelsea, N.Y.. The newly refurbished 19th century carriage house is industrial chic and an inspiring space with beautiful wall-cast aluminum tiled walls, reminiscent of his stunning pieces.

Meeting Michael Aram with the BlogTour NYC group was a great priveledge! He spoke to all of us about his inspiring time while living in India and how he wanted to bring back the rich metalworking traditions of the skilled artisans. He is really easy to talk to, a real people person and his passion for the art of making is truly evident and invigorating!

The metal tableware can be mixed with the porcelain china. Love that!

I was really drawn to the bark vases. They have tiny unexpected holes to weave flowers or tall grasses through. I can visualize the three-dimensional effect...a magnificent centerpiece and arrangement it must be!

Design and Charity: Design on a Dime 2013

In one word, Epic!....describes the ninth annual Design on a Dime charity fundraiser supporting Housing Work's programs for the homeless living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Last night was the opening reception and I was able to peruse each designer's vignette at the press preview before the big reception. I have to say they were all amazing...one designer vignette after another showcased bold, classic and daring designs. Around 64 designers participated creating rooms with donated furniture and accessories that sold 50-70% off retail. Amazing right? There are definite steals! This show runs thru the weekend so get your shoes on and dart down to the Metropolitan Pavilion on West 18th street! Sale open to the public: for info click here. This years proceeds goes toward their newest housing development, The Hull Street Residence in Brooklyn, N.Y..

Andrei Kievsky, master of faux and the art of plastering is the owner and art director of i-FAUX finishes. His company has become the leader in commercial and residential applications of venetian plaster, faux finishing, stenciliing, wood graining, gold-leafing, murals and frescoes. I recently met Andrei at the Architectural Digest show and his passion for his work was evident. He shared with me his latest project recently completed over at Versace's showroom on Madison Avenue in Manhattan.

-3 coats of black Venetian stucco troweled

-Coat of Rolco slow set size

-Immitation gold-leaf (Dutch metal) applied as Shabin

-Coat of oil-based varnish

SAVE THE AMERICAN FOLK ART MUSEUM

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) has betrayed New Yorkers. A couple of years after buying The American Folk Art Museum designed by architects Tod Williams and Billie Tsien, MoMA chose to trash this sculptural icon on West 53rd Street. This is not acceptable. This building has presence and cannot be so easily disposable. Passersby always take notice of its alluring façade and is beloved for its skin's hand-made feel, just like the art inside. Now it will be replaced with another typical glass box to be designed by French architect Jean Novel. Their goal is to get another 40,000 square feet of exhibition space in an adjacent 82 story tower. MoMA officials said, "the building's design did not fit their plans because the opaque façade is not in keeping with the glass aesthetic of the rest of the museum. Is this for real? How can MoMA, an influential museum destroy a building that IS art? This is painfully wrong. The building's metal façade is a celebration of materials, a tactile and significant architecture...The texture of its metal panels came from casting the panels from sand molds taken from the texture of concrete. Its materiality informs craft, making a connection between the hand and the finished object. This is innovative thinking...How can MOMA be so insensitive, so unresponsive to a crafted building? Why is MoMA so quick to condemn and not find alternate ways to preserve and integrate this folded modern façade into its existing building fabric? And most importantly, why wasn't there an open dialogue with Tod Williams and Billie Tsien to present solutions to integrate the two museums?

Such a special building and I'm sure Tod Williams and Billie Tsien are feeling major remorse and disappointment. I have met Billie Tsien over the years and sent her an email to let her know that I would support her in any way I could. Below is an email she shared with me from Matthew Baird, the project architect on the Folk Art Museum that has links both to pieces from critics and a petition I implore you to sign:

Dear Friends,

Many of you are aware of the news of MoMA's proposed demolition of the American Folk Art Building on 53d street.

As you may know I had the great fortune to serve as the project architect in Tod Williams and Billie Tsien's studio charged with managing the design and construction of this wonderful building. I hope you will join me in signing the petition which is circulating that asks MoMA to reconsider. I would be grateful if you might forward this email on to your contacts who may be able to help save the building. If there is any hope to reverse this decision (and there may not be), we need to send a strong message to MoMA's board and staff that this is a cultural betrayal, and a fundamentally flawed act. In the short time since the news release yesterday, the press has spoken and some of the most esteemed critics of our time have lambasted this unfortunate decision. Even from a pure economic "efficient" business viewpoint (as MoMA proposes), it makes little fiscal sense to purchase a building for $32 million, demolish the $18.3m existing state-of-the-art space, only to replace it with restaurants, retail, and less exhibition space at a likely cost of more than $40 million more dollars! The City of New York and many prominent donors gave this award winning building intended as a public space for New York City. This demolition marks true hubris, an absolute waste, an unsustainable vision, and a loss of one of the most adored buildings in NYC.

Here are some links: Perhaps the most compelling is Martin Filler's blistering condemnation. The New York Times broached the topic. The WSJ reported this morning with an interview with Tod and Billie. Ned Cramer, editor of Architecture Magazine, wrote an immediate opinion that laments the news. Paul Goldberger has made a series of compelling critiques on Twitter . Architectural Record reinforces this consensus in an erudite dismissal of the proposed demolition. Justin Davidson on Vulture writes with equal dismay at the planned erasure. The internet is alive with myriad blogs and chat rooms all incredulous at this unfortunate turn of events.

The news marks a sad day for New York and for Architecture and it sends the wrong message from an institution the world admires. It goes against the very principles of what Museums are meant to stand for: a responsibility to preserve our culture and, in this case, award winning contemporary architecture. There is no question in my mind that the Folk Art building with its 14,000 square feet of exhibition space could provide a compelling complement when well connected to MoMA's existing galleries - it is in fact perfectly suited for art experienced at a more intimate scale - a scale that Taniguchi's galleries at MoMA simply can't embrace. Works on paper, graphic and industrial design, architectural drawings and models (the Mies Archive) would all show extremely well in the Folk Art Building.

Hello again to all of you loyal MODsters!! I am so excited to bring you another dose of THE ANGLE: Nashville!! Where I bring you along on my journey of discovering new and cool things related to Art, Design Architecture and the deep history this town has to offer!! Today I want to BLOW.YOUR.MIND with the most modern playground I have ever seen! Yes, I know I am a bit dramatic, but I'm telling Y'all ( I can say that now cause I live here) The first time I saw Cumberland Park, I could not believe my eyes!!

Cumberland park is referred to as an "Adventure Park" a place for kids to explore differently than they are use to, and I dig it!!! It is part of Nashville greater project called "New Riverfront Revitalization plan". TO bring more people to the riverfront of the Cumberland river.

The design of this play area is amazing!! its a series of rolling AstroTurf hills, that kids love to run up and slide down. Nestled between the hills are modern edgy children's play things like a balance ball, and a metal see-saw!! The sand box area is also cutting edge with a "Floating" stair to get into it, and an elevated sand table for taller kids. There is a spray park, and Climbing wall and climbing ropes, along with secret nature paths that lead around the entire 6.5 acre plot!! Take a look at the amazing design!

As written by ARCHdaily, the park is broken up into 5 seperate areas..

• The Hollow – a one-of-a-kind adventure and nature play experience for kids of all ages and abilities, including an undulating washboard, accessible sand play with buried fossils, bouncing pad, green maze made of live plants, rainbow-casting prisms and lights in constellation patterns, a “cloud” bridge culminating in curtains of rain, and an interactive splash pad with jets and wading pool.

• The Gorge – a stone climbing wall featuring local Tennessee Crab Orchard sandstone, ropes and nets course, a 4-person wide embankment slide made with materials that stay cooler in the sun, and embedded fossils.

• The Scoops – a cooling-off lawn area and grove of trees featuring stepping stone paths dipping through drifts of mist that are activated by motion and step sensors.

• The Explorer Trail – meandering paths weaving through groves and butterfly meadows,

• The Terrace – outdoor tables and chairs under trees and adjacent to play areas, concessions, and restrooms for easy parent supervision.

What I know for sure, is I cant wait until we can experience the spray park!! I love the cutting edge design and "out of the box thinking" that the architects Hargreaves Associates created!! its AWESOME!! don't you all want to just come and play!!!! I'll bring the lemonade!!

A MODERN TREEHOUSE MADE OUT OF GLASS

The Tower House, designed by Manhattan based architect Thomas Gluck is MY FAVE architecture pick of the week. The modern solution to a tree-house is the architects' vacation home in Ulster County, New York about 100 miles outside of NYC. Imagine living within a lush landscape and totally immersed in the woods. You would be loving views and feeling your blood-pressure go down, down, down. I love that the glass-clad design is inverted- bedrooms are below and the living spaces are upstairs.What is so impressive is the dining room is cantilevered 30 feet from the ground!

The reflection of the trees off the glass skin must be magnificent! And the yellow switchback stair is really fantastic...it connects all four levels with cables that acts as a railing. Great detail!

Recently I visited the Eyebeam Art +Technology Center for a fascinating lecture called Fashion Innovations in 3D Printing. The lecture featured collaborations between designers and producers using cutting edge 3D printing techniques to push the boundaries of fashion. Innovators who spoke, Joris Debo, Creative Director of .MGX by Materialise, Duann Scott of Shapeways and Architect Bradley Rothenberg spoke about the development of complex architectural woven 3D printed materials that are highly flexible, and have durable elasticity. I walked away from this lecture realizing that the 3D file is just as much a work of art as the object or fabric itself. These woven structures are all based from 'sacred geometry,' said architect Bradley Rothenberg. He mentioned how the triangle is the basis of all structure, as we see in Buckminster Fuller's geodesic domes. This logic of sacred geometry is applied to the work they are doing in 3d printing. They intersect and grow geometrical systems in multiple directions and in so doing, create a fabric that expands in multiple directions.

The future possibilities for fashion design are endless!!

"Hats off to 3D Printing Challenge." All designs were produced by Materialise at their Headquarters in Leuven, Belgium.

Check out the video showing sculptural clutch purses and necklaces by renowned designer Daniel Widrig and other unique hat designs from the "Hats off to 3D Printing Challenge."

At the end of the lecture, I was able to chat with Joris Debo, creative director of .MGX by Materialise, a company that helps bring great ideas to life. He generously answered some questions about his company, and the work he is doing with 3D printing.

Tell me about you and your role at Materialise?

I'm the Creative director of .MGX by Materialise, the consumer division of Materialise. Next to that I'm also working for Materialise' AMS business unit. This unit is delivering AM services for all kinds of industries. In the New York office we focus on art, design and fashion related projects and everything out of the ordinary.

Iris van Herpen’s Couture Paris show ‘Voltage’ 2013

Tell us about the structure and flexible lace-like material created by laser sintering for the 3d printed dress for Iris van Herpen’s Couture Paris show ‘Voltage’ 2013?

The flexible material is a laser sintered polyurethane: very durable and has excellent shape memory. In my opinion a material that is part of a next generation of 3D printing materials. This material allows us to do things that weren't possible before.

This material Joris describes is TpU 92A-1. It made its debut on the catwalk during Iris van Herpens's Voltage Haute Couture show during Paris Fashion Week this past March 2013. Lets peek into Iris van Herpen's world where these 3D printed dresses' flexibility is revolutionary!

Iris van Herpen explores the electricity of the body. Drawing on the idea of movement, the flexible 3D printed dresses are a result of collaborations with US based designer Neri Oxman of the MIT Media Lab and Austrian architect Julia Koerner of Materialise (source)

What kind of new possibilities in construction and effects are eliminated in fashion using lasers and 3d printing?

In an ideal scenario we could eliminate seams and handwork. Also laser sintering technology allows us to create forms and shapes that weren’t possible before and are new to the industry.

What other material innovations are you working on for fashion, etc?

aha…the million dollar question. For the moment we’re working on some ‘functional items’ for the fashion industry. What exactly I can’t disclose yet. The idea is to show that you can make things that are functional/wearable and not only meant for the Haute couture runways.

What software packages are the best and suitable for 3d printing?

Packages: rhinoceros, Maya, 3D STUDIO MAX,…. and Magics for 3d printing file preparation.

Would you characterize 3d printing a similar concept to Star Trek’s replicator?

I’m not a Star Trek expert to be honest. I think the Star Trek replicator is still a concept that maybe one day we’ll see in the future. It works on a molecular level and that’s still far away.

Project Decor challenged their Designer Exchange members to replicate a room that we have previously designed. I thought this was a perfect challenge to complete my own family room as I still needed a cocktail table for my zen modern space, as I call it! You can see the void in the pic below....Easily enough, I came across the Xela tables that are beautifully crafted with American walnut and gray tinted tempered glass. It has that sleek but serene feel and some cool storage compartments which is perfect for hiding all those pesky remote controls!

ARCHITECTURE MUST VISIT LIST: COPENHAGEN'S BLUE PLANET

This weeks architecture fave of the week has made my MUST-VISIT List. It is the whirlpool-shaped Blue Planet aquarium by Danish studio 3XN. It just opened to the public in Copenhagen on March 23, 2013. Denmark's new National Aquarium is clad in sheen curved aluminum and its swooping silhouette is inspired by the shape of the water in endless motion.

The second course was Tagliatelle and clams with Long Island Cherry Stones. So amazing, Love my pasta! I was getting full by the time the American Lamb rack on Gold Fontina Fonduta came out but I had to go for it. It melted in my mouth. Sooo good!

Interior designer Kathy Sandler is working on an exciting and unique project benefitting her almamater, O'MoreCollege of Design. Kicking off with a Preview party on April 4th, of which Kathy is Co-chair, O’More College of Design and Traditional Home magazine are presenting the O’More Show house in downtown Franklin, Tennessee - about 20 miles from downtown Nashville. Seventeen leading interior designers - all O'More alumni spanning four decades have been selected to participate in the project at Berry Cottage. How amazing is that? Guests of the Preview party will get a first look at The Berry Cottage, a 4,000 square-foot transitional Shingle style home, an opportunity to meet the participating designers and talk with Traditional Home editorial staff with cocktails and Southern hors-d’oeuvres in hand. Mmm mm. RSVP HERE to purchase your Preview party ticket. The house is open to the public April 4-21. Tickets are $20 at the door.

Kathy gave us a peek inside her Designer room in The Berry Cottage........ Love the colors!!

Kathy is designing the Storage Studio which is an 11' x 14' found space in the attic. She adds," the colors are citron, celadon and blue. I'm mixing chrome and glass with vintage leather and rich woods. The rug is a custom piece from Nashville Rug Gallery and Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams lent me two chairs, a floor mirror and a large piece of contemporary art. I'm also adding in a touch of BlogTour in the art."

Besides seeing the amazing O'More Designer Showhouse, Franklin looks like a great city to visit!! It is in the county seat of Williamson County, Tennessee and filled with interesting architecture, fun shops, stylish boutiques and cool looking restaurants. Kathy drove around and snapped some great pics:
