Wonder if this is an unhappy customer who thinks they have been scammed by Diesel Models.

If you have submitted your details to Diesel Models or UK Models you may want to contact them on 0207 079 4500 to to find out if your details are safe or if a hacker has obtained all the information you submitted.

As Diesel Models and UK models are run by the same people (Blue Rooms) it is possible that hackers also have accessed the UK Models website to get customer details from there too.

What to expect at a Modelling photoshoot assessment at a model agency/studio?

Are you booked for a model photoshoot assessment day at a London photo studio? Want advice so you know what it involves? Have you paid your £50 deposit to attend and been told that it is fully refundable?

If the answer is yes to the above then this information may help.

The studios in London that offer modelling assessment days are generally nothing to do with model agencies. They tend to have flashy websites that give the appearance of being a modelling agency and use words such as "apply now" or "you have been accepted" but when you read the small print they say they are things like "modelling platforms".

Paying £50 is purely the deposit to make sure that you turn up on the day. The shoot is not an assessment or a free test shoot; it is only an opportunity for the studio to do the hard sell to get you to buy a portfolio that could cost up to £2500 depending on the studio and how much they think you will pay.

Clear snapshots are all you need to apply to a model agency

If you resist the hard sell then you may be able to get your deposit back but it is a hard slog, many studios will try every trick in the book to get you to pay more.

If you don't turn up to the shoot you could be liable for additional fees on top of your £50, this is commonly £140 or more so a total of £190. If you have paid a deposit and then felt that the company you are dealing with is a scam then you may be best off to turn up to the shoot but resist all the hard sell to get your deposit back.

REMEMBER - you do not need a portfolio to apply to model agencies - despite what the London studios such as Candi Models (Mint Brown), Mint Models (Neptune), Form Models (Neptune), UK Models (Blue Rooms), Diesel Models (Pure Space) or La Mode may tell you. Read the info from agencies such as Models 1 or Premier Model Management - you do not need a portfolio to send to them, clear snapshots are all they need to decide if you are suitable.

Form Models / Neptune Studios Illegal Credit Agreements?

We have now seen a copy of the Form Models / Neptune Studios credit agreement. The credit agreement is with Neptune Ltd which is not registered under the Consumer Credit Act despite the agreement claiming to be regulated by the CCA. Neptune Ltd therefore appears to be illegally offering credit and the agreement that is signed may not be legal.

If you have signed a credit agreement with Form Models / Mint Models /Neptune Studios as Neptune Ltd and want to cancel your payments then you should get advice as soon as possible. You can speak to Consumer Direct or Trading Standards (Lambeth office that cover the SE1 7NJ postcode where Form Models are based) If Neptune studios are trading illegally then you may not have to pay them any further money.

Form Models are owned by Neptune Studios London. They do not offer free test shoots; all their shoots are fully paid and you are expected to buy photos which can cost £600 or more.

The Form Models blog has recently launched which appears to have been written by children. Apart from the content being blatantly copied from other sites such as Candi Models, Institute of Modelling and Photo3, the grammar and spelling do not show any indication of Form Models being a genuine company.

Form Models seem unable to be comprehend that they are not a legitimate modelling agency and showing how they are happy to copy web content from other companies gives a good idea of the ethics behind their company.

Form Models suggest that you should register with them to attend London Fashion Week. Unless Form Models are claiming they have tickets to go to the London Fashion shows that they give people who pay for their shoots it is untrue to suggest that someone could book a shoot with Form Models and attend London Fashion week 2012.

I have never found even one legitimate model or talent agency advertising on Gumtree. They are either scammers that want you to pay hundreds or even thousands for portfolio shoots, classes, model assessments or they are fronts for pornography

You never send in your cv or picture until you know the company's name and verify they are legit. This is how scammer's get photos to set up fake profiles on dating sites to con gullible people.

Under the Distance Selling Regulations you have 7 days to cancel your booking and get a full refund from Neptune studios in Waterloo London. A review of both these companies shows that the answer is that neither are model agencies and are just the names used by photo studios to sell expensive portfolio shoots to new models costing up to £2500 by some reports. Candi models will not get you any work and UK models will not get you any work either.

Mint Models telesales staff use the title New Faces Manager to give the appearance of booking new models. They do not book models and only sell photo shoots on commission.

Have you been asked to pay £50 deposit for a shoot with ModelsPro.co.uk / Premium Models / Premium Plus Model Management and to pay £300+ for a portfolio shoot? No genuine agency will ask you to pay a deposit to attend a test shoot. The only places that ask for deposits for shoots are photo studios so you have grounds for a complaint if you have been misled.

Premium Plus models advertise on Gumtree - real legitimate model agencies do not need to advertise or pay for Google adverts.

The only advice you will get from Candi Models is how they can sell you a modelling portfolio. They are in business to sell portfolios, not to give impartial advice!

Is Premium Model Management a Scam? Premium Plus Models

UPDATE Jan 2012: It appears that Premium Model Management website has been taken from them by top UK Model agency Premier Model Management. All pages from the Premium Models site now immediately redirect to Premier Models website. As one of the top UK agencies Premier Models is clearly not a scam and Premier Model Management do not have the need to advertise via Gumtree for models. Premier have stopped Premium Models using such as similar name/logo and trying to "pass off" as a legitimate modelling agency. We understand that Premium Models also used the photos of models from the Premier Model Management website.

Premium Model Management are now using a new website Premium Plus Models, premplus.co.uk

Premium Model Management website was only registered in June 2011 so they are not an established company.

The main problems with Premium Models are that they are breaking UK laws by taking personal details from potential models but they are not registered with the Data Protection Act. Be very wary about giving your details to any company that do not comply with the Data Protection act as it means they are already trading illegally.

Real model agencies do not need to advertise on Google. If you have paid a deposit to Premium Models and have changed your mind because you have found out the above information then you can cancel and get a refund within 7 days under UK Trading laws.

is not actually a model agency but a portfolio mill selling photo shoots to new models not getting them work.

The commission based telesales staff at Mint Models / Form Models which are owned by Neptune Studios use a variety of names but the common factor is that they all call themselves New Faces Manager and use the following telephone number 0207 633 9043 to call prospective models.

These New Faces managers are very keen to speak when you are booking a shoot at Neptune Studios but as soon as they have taken your money potential models report that they are suddenly unable to get hold of them. Some potential models have even reported being told that the person doesn't work at Mint Models / Form Models despite speaking to the person on the phone the day or so beforehand.

Names reported as New Faces Managers at Mint Models / Form Models are Shella Sharif, Elizabeth, Bridgena, Lisa, Venette and Oliver James is supposedly the manager. Look at the complaint here trying to contact Form Models

Form models are a scam. Form models send you to neptune studios in london(after taking £50 deposit from you) I went I had a photoshoot with them in december.after the photoshoot i was told it went great and i had great potential blah blah blah.

Then they tried to sell my the portfolio of ten photos for the extortionate rate of £500. i said i wasn't sure. The guy then tried to bully me into buying them saying things like ''well why did you come here if its not to buy a portfolio'' i did not buy one.

From then on i've been requesting my £50 refundable deposit as stated in the contract. It took alot of emails to get a response from these scam artists and they are continuing to be uncooperative.

Who ever the childish rude person is that is now responding to my emails won't even tell me there name/position in the company or direct contact details. I would advise anyone against contacting this company.

What to ask to check if a modelling agency is a scam?

If you are looking to find out if a company that you think is a model agency is a scam then there are a few questions you can ask.

1) The first thing to ask is "are they a model agency?"

This might seem obvious but many companies that new models believe to be model agencies are not agencies at all but are photo studios selling portfolio shoots. Organisations such as UK Models, Diesel Models, Form Models, Candi Models and La Mode Models are not model agencies but are the names of photography studios.

They may use phrases such as "you have been successful" or "you have been selected to attend". This is purely their marketing - you have not been selected by a model agency, you have been selected by a photo studio to pay them lots of money for a shoot. A real model agency will pay you!

2) Real model agencies do not advertise on Google. If you see a paid advert at the top of a google page guaranteeing that you will become a model then it is almost certainly a scam. Real agencies do not need to pay to recruit models via Google Ads.

3) Check how long they have been in business and how many models are on their books. A good agency will have been in business for many years and have a limited number of models on their books to make sure they can represent them and get them work.

A fake forum has appeared apparently created by Form Models or at least with their blessing as no-one else would want to create a forum about Form Models Agency when they are not a modelling agency at all. The forum is called modelchatroom and ONLY features comments about Form models - so hardly a MODEL chatroom!!

Complaints about Form Model at Neptune Studios London - they are not a modelling agency but the name used by a photo studio to sell photo shoots for portfolios. You have to pay £50 deposit which they claim is refundable but is used to pay for your portfolio.

The deposit is to make sure you turn up. Some reports have said that if you don`t show up they will charge you a further £140. Any business of ANY sort that asks for a 'refundable' booking fee is unreasonable to demand a further payment for a no show. If they have a legitimate reason to ask for a booking fee then that and that only covers the no show costs.

Some studios con young hopefuls by inviting them for a 'free' photoshoot, requesting a booking fee to secure the studio time (with a promise to refund the fee if you attend) then charging extortionate prices for copies of the pictures. Some studios adopt aggressive, threatening and abusive sales tactics. Some studios do not apply the 7 day cooling off period of distance selling and insist that special deals can only be offered if the sale is made on the day.

The New Faces team will be wanting you to buy a modelling portfolio, they cannot make any decision on your suitability for modelling as Form Models is not an agency. Only a model agency can decide if they want to take you on, a photo studio could say that everyone was suitable for modelling in order to sell photo shoots.

You need to be 100% sure that any company you are dealing with for modelling work is actually a model agency that will take their commission from getting you jobs, not charge you for an expensive portfolio that you may not need.
