<p> The commonest route for the dissemination of HIV infection worldwide is through hetero intercourse, in spite of the emphasis in the press on &#8216;high risk groups &#8216; like homosexual men and intravenous drug-users. At the end of the prior century, there were more new hetero contagions with HIV diagnosed in Britain and Wales than there were due to homo contact. Most of the heterosexual HIV was caught due to sex abroad, particularly in countries in Africa but in other parts of the world as well where the risk is skyrocketing rapidly.  </p>
<p> In The UK, a unnamed study of travellers attending the Infirmary for Tropical Diseases for tropical disease screening discovered that the HIV rate in hetero male travellers was 1.2 %. In some areas of the world, up to 90 per cent of commercial sex workers of both sexes are HIV-positive, and as many as one in three of the adult population are infected. HIV rates are fast increasing in India, in states around Asia&#8217;s Golden Triangle, in numerous other areas in the tropics and in the former USSR.   </p>
<p> In truth it isn&#8217;t feasible to devise a world map showing global risk distribution, as lots of under-reporting goes on for a range of social, cultural and economic reasons. <p> It&#8217;s been calculated that each year, 5 percent of teenagers worldwide contracts a sexually spread disease. The most serious are HIV and hepatitis B, but the classical venereal diseases such as syphilis and gonorrhoea are common.   </p>
<p> The prevalence of syphilis has been increasing in the former states of the USSR, and in some of the European countries that have taken over from the more conventional &#8216;sex tourism &#8216; states. There is worldwide concern about the growth of multi-resistant gonorrhoea, which implies that if this disease is caught abroad it will probably be more difficult to treat.
