Tirupati playback singer S Janaki suffered a head injury after she slipped and fell down in the bathroom of a hotel where she was staying here on Tuesday. She was rushed to Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical where her condition was reported to be stable. She was brought to the superspecialty hospital with bleeding injuries on the head, where the doctors removed the blood clot. Speaking to newsmen, SVIMS director B Vengamma said the condition of the singer was stable. "Being a diabetic we advised rest to her," she added. Janaki's family too confirmed that she was out of danger and denied media reports that the veteran singer slipped into a coma following the incident.
Surgery was ruled out as there was no damage to the brain. Though a diabetic, her sugar and blood pressure levels were under control, according to doctors treating her.
Speaking to the media in a faint voice by evening, Ms. Janaki said that she had undertaken a series of journeys during the last few days that led to a fall in her blood pressure levels. As she had not bolted the door from inside, her son Murali Krishna rushed to her rescue after she fell in the bathroom.
The ace singer was here to witness the marathon concert ‘Sri Annamacharya Sankirtana Yagnam' performed by her nephew G. Balakrishna Prasad at Mahati auditorium.

Chinese telecommunications equipment manufacturer Huawei — that’s wah-way
to the uninitiated — has recently expanded into consumer electronics.
On Wednesday, the company’s SA office unveiled its first foray into the
tablet market, launching the 7-inch Ideos S7 Slim to local consumers.
The S7 is the first of a series of tablets from Huawei, and the
company is clearly pitching it as a budget option. Bearing this in mind,
it’s not surprising the 7-inch screen has a resolution of only 480×800 —
a resolution now found on many high-end smartphones.
Despite having a noticeably lower pixel density than many of its
rivals, the S7 nevertheless offers a capable display, and its 16:9
aspect ratio is great for media. Its capacitive-touch screen isn’t the
most sensitive on the market, but it’s sufficient. If anything, the only
serious letdown from the screen is its dull colour rendition.
Weighing in at less than 500g and a mere 12,5mm thick, the S7 is both
compact and portable, and even though its rear casing consists almost
entirely of plastic, it still feels like it could withstand a fair
amount of abuse.
The S7 runs Android 2.2 Froyo and comes packed with a number of
applications from the Android market out of the box. Compared to many of
its competitors, the S7 is light on processing power with only a 768MHz
Snapdragon processor and only 256MB of RAM, yet it’s responsive,
applications load quickly, and it handles multitasking without a
problem.
Huawei’s user interface is sufficiently intuitive, with five
dedicated page categories, with two pages each, arranged along the
bottom of the home screen (home, Web, entertainment, communications,
favourites) and a dedicated applications button. The only problem is
that the home screens can only be viewed in landscape orientation.

Android Market on the S7 Slim

The top right of the screen is dedicated to single-touch controls for
Wi-Fi, brightness, network settings, battery status and access to an
information page that contains dedicated connectivity controls,
notifications, and a list of the devices active tasks.
The front of the device has three capacitive buttons on the
right-hand bezel: home, options and back. Its only other buttons are a
volume rocker on the right-hand edge of the device and a power/lock
button on the top-right. The left-hand bezel includes a 2-megapixel
front-facing camera (which is identical to the flashless rear camera and
supports geo-tagging) and a light sensor for setting brightness
automatically.
A look around the edges of the S7 reveals a couple of pleasant
surprises, and one staggeringly disappointing one. The S7 offers a
microSD slot on its bottom edge, which means microSD cards can be
changed without having to remove the rear cover. Also, considering the
S7 only includes 4GB of internal storage, the ability to expand that via
microSD is a sound decision.
Another pleasing find is the fact that the S7 offers stereo sound by
means of speakers on both the left- and right-hand edges of the device.
Like many of its contemporaries, the S7 also offers micro USB and mini
HDMI ports and a 3,5mm headphone jack.
A terribly disappointing aspect is the fact that there’s a power port
on the top-left edge of the S7. Despite having a micro USB port for
data transfer, the S7 cannot be charged via micro USB, which means
having to carry around the dedicated multi-function USB cable Huawei
packages with the device.

The rear of the S7 slim

Though other manufacturers (with the exception of Apple) have
realised the stupidity of forcing consumers to use proprietary cables
for charging or connectivity, this is evidently a lesson Huawei has yet
to learn. It’s an incredibly bad design decision that mars an otherwise
extremely capable device.
With support for Wi-Fi and 3G, the S7 covers all of the usual
connectivity options, and adds another unique one. Not only does the S7
accept a Sim card for 3G purposes, but it offers full telephony services
too. The S7 is really just a 7-inch Android phone.
Unfortunately, although the S7 is clearly aimed at media consumption,
its support for video formats is limited to H.264 and Mpeg4 (720p). It
scores marginally better on the music front with support for MP3, AAC,
PCM and AMR audio files, but the lack of sizeable internal memory means
media fiends will need to invest in a decent-sized microSD card.
Huawei were thoughtful enough to include a number of sample videos on the device, including the astoundingly Americanised and sickeningly saccharine music video
for “Shy Guy”, the hit single from Korean girl-group Secret. The video
is a good analogy for the S7 itself. They’re both clearly influenced by
what others are doing, they’re both inoffensive and designed to have
mass appeal, and they’re both somewhat forgettable.
The S7 is priced around US$300 in Asia, but is expected to cost
between R3 200 and R3 600 in SA. Frankly, that seems a little too
expensive. Sure, it’s half the price of a top of the range iPad, but
it’s only R1 000 less than an entry-level one, and for many consumers
that’s going to be a problem.
Of course, like its 7-inch brethren, the S7 shouldn’t be compared to
an iPad; it should be compared to the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab or
HTC’s Flyer. Compared to them, the S7 is a surprisingly capable tablet,
albeit it with a less impressive screen, less internal storage capacity,
and the need for a dedicated power cable. However, even compared to
other tablets of its size, the S7 is just too expensive for what it is.

Assembly Election:2012 Uttar Pradesh

Chief Minister Mayawati successfully completing her full term propelling her Bahujan Samaj Party to power, the upcoming UP Assembly elections will be an acid test for her. With the erection of her statues and party symbol making headlines the most of last year, the rampant corruption and misgovernance in the state will become a major electoral issue in this years polls
The elections is scheduled to be held in seven phases. The Election Commission (EC) announced that the poll dates will be on Feb - 8th, 11th, 15th, 19th, 23rd, 28th and Mar 3 in 2012. The counting of votes will be held on Mar 6
Apart from Mayawati led BSP, Rahul Gandhi led Congress and Akhilesh Yadav led SP is doing all they can to wreck the castle built by Mayawati and her supporters. Among the many issues that fare prominent in the UP election scene are the division of the states and the crime graph that has risen considerably over the years. The verdict of the UP elections will also alter the power politics in the Centre.

Constituency (with ECI assembly constituency number)

IMELDA MARCOS VIRUS: Sings you a song (slightly off key) on boot up, then
subtracts money from your Quicken account and spends it all on expensive
shoes it purchases through Prodigy.

STAR TREK VIRUS: Invades your system in places where no virus has gone
before.

sends you a bill for $4,500.

GEORGE BUSH VIRUS: It starts by boldly stating, "Read my docs....No new
files!" on the screen. It proceeds to fill up all
the free space on your hard drive with new files, then blames it on the
Congressional Virus.

CLEVELAND INDIANS VIRUS: Makes your 486/50 machine perform like a 286/AT.

LAPD VIRUS: It claims it feels threatened by the other files on your PC and

reviews, but you still love it.

ORAL ROBERTS VIRUS: Claims that if you don't send it a million dollars, it's
programmer will take it back

FREUDIAN VIRUS: Your computer becomes obsessed with marrying its own
motherboard.

PBS VIRUS: Your programs stop every few minutes to ask for money.

ELVIS VIRUS: Your computer gets fat, slow and lazy, then self destructs;
only to resurface at shopping malls and service
stations across rural America.

OLLIE NORTH VIRUS: Causes your printer to become a paper shredder.

and a set of shocks.

JIMMY HOFFA VIRUS: Your programs can never be found again.

CONGRESSIONAL VIRUS #2: Runs every program on the hard drive simultaneously,
but doesn't allow the user to accomplish anything.

OPRAH WINFREY VIRUS: Your 200MB hard drive suddenly shrinks to 80MB, and

AT&T VIRUS: Every three minutes it tells you what great service you are
getting.

MCI VIRUS: Every three minutes it reminds you that you're paying too much
for the AT&T virus.

PAUL REVERE VIRUS: This revolutionary virus does not horse around. It warns
you of impending hard disk attack---once if by LAN, twice if by C:>.

POLITICALLY CORRECT VIRUS: Never calls itself a "virus", but instead refers
to itself as an "electronic microorganism."

RIGHT TO LIFE VIRUS: Won't allow you to delete a file, regardless of how old
it is. If you attempt to erase a file,
it requires you to first see a counselor about possible alternatives.

ROSS PEROT VIRUS: Activates every component in your system, just before the

NEW WORLD ORDER VIRUS: Probably harmless, but it makes a lot of people
really mad just thinking about it.

FEDERAL BUREAUCRAT VIRUS: Divides your hard disk into hundreds of little
units, each of which does practically nothing, but all of which claim to be
the most important part of your computer.

GALLUP VIRUS: Sixty percent of the PCs infected will lose 38 percent of

CONGRESSIONAL VIRUS: The computer locks up, screen splits erratically with a
message appearing on each half blaming the other side for the problem.

Cricket all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has been
diagnosed with Grade I cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy
in the United States.
A tumour on his lung was diagnosed as non-malignant late last year,
but his physiotherapist, Dr Jatin Chaudhary, said it was cancerous but
“100% curable”.
He said that he expected Yuvraj to be fit to play by May this year.
“It is a rare tumour and is cancerous but it has been detected in
stage 1 itself (Stage 0 refers to cancer that is just beginning, while
stages 1 to 4 are progressively more advanced cancers),” Dr. Chaudhary
said.
“Doctors had to decide whether to continue medication or go for
chemotherapy but since parts of the tumour are just above the artery of
his heart, there was a danger that while running it could burst. But it
is 100 percent curable.
“The doctors decided that he would have to undergo chemotherapy and
he travelled to the US on January 26. End of March, he would undergo a
CT scan and should recover by then,” Dr. Chaudhary said.

Yuvraj
hasn’t played competitive cricket since the Tests against West Indies
last November, when news of his tumour became public.
He had originally hoped to make a comeback in the tri-series in
Australia, but last month it was announced that he would not be fit in
time for the IPL, which begins in April. (ANI)
Renault Twizy combines real character with a resolutely modern design that boasts sweeping lines, open bodywork, original gull wing doors and a full windscreen which extends over the top of the car to form a large glazed area, not to mention the model's original lighting signature.
Renault Twizy's enveloping body and side deflectors combine the enjoyment of open-air motoring with protection from the elements. Additional lower door panels are available to provide even more effective shielding against wind and rain. The amount of in-car stowage space is ideally suited to the needs of owners traveling to and from work, or for light shopping.
A 31-litre lockable cubby – ideal for a briefcase or limited shopping – is readily accessible underneath the rear seat. The capacity of this locker can easily be increased to 55 litres. There are also three litres of stowage space either side of the steering wheel
2 versions available

The version of Renault Twizy which requires a driver's license is powered by a 15kW (20hp) motor, while the version that doesn't require a license (depending on country) comes with a 4kW (5hp) motor. The 7kWh lithium-ion battery is located underneath the front seat. Renault Twizy's carefully honed weight – 450kg, including batteries (100kg) – is directly beneficial to its range which stands at 100km (combined cycle)
Its battery is also particularly easy to charge thanks to an extendable spiral cable stored beneath a flap at the front of the vehicle.

Thanks to an integrated charger, this cable is also compatible with roadside battery charging facilities. An adapter permits this cable to be plugged into any 220V 10A household electrical supply. The battery fully charges in three-and-a-half hours.
Renault India is planning to make
Renault India is planning to make a foray in to the low cost car market in India by launching a small car that will be priced under Rs.4 lakhs. Mark Nassif who is heading Renault India has confirmed the French carmaker's plans.
Meanwhile Mr Nassif has stated his company was aiming to sell one lakh cars in India. However, he also added this target could be achieved only after Renault had at least five models along with 100 showrooms in India. This could happen either in 2013 or in 2014. The low cost car will have to make a major contribution for Renault India to achieve its sales target
223 people dead as Europe freezes

Temperatures have plunged to new lows in Europe where a week-long
cold snap has now claimed more than 220 lives as forecasters warned that
the big freeze would tighten its grip over the weekend.

A total of 223 people have died from the cold weather in
the past seven days according to an AFP tally, with Ukraine suffering
the heaviest toll.
People have been found dead on the streets in some countries, while
thousands have been trapped in mountain villages in Serbia. In Italy,
Venice’s canals started freezing over and even Rome was dusted in snow.
The lowest temperatures recorded in Europe were in the
south-west of the Czech Republic, where the mercury dropped as low as
-38.1 degrees overnight.
The EU executive said that vital Russian gas deliveries
had dropped in nine countries, with Russian giant Gazprom invoking
flexibility clauses as it also braves a cold snap. Supplies fell 30 per
cent in Austria and 24 per cent in Italy.
Ukraine's emergencies ministry raised its death toll to 101 since the cold snap took hold, 64 of whom died on the streets.
Almost 1600 people have sought medical attention for frostbite and hypothermia and thousands have flocked to temporary shelters.
The chilling temperatures killed eight more people over
24 hours in Poland, bringing the death toll to 37 since the deep freeze
began a week ago, police said.
Temperatures plunged to -35 degrees in some areas of Poland on Friday.
In Bulgaria parts of the River Danube froze over, while
another six people were found dead from the cold, bringing the overall
tally to 16 in the last week, according to local media.
Most of the dead in the European Union's poorest country
were villagers found frozen to death on the side of the road or in their
unheated homes, the reports said.
More than 1000 Bulgarian schools remained closed for a third day amid fresh snowfalls and piercing winds in the northeast.
In neighbouring Romania two more people died, bringing the overall toll to 24, and hundreds of schools remained closed.
In Rome, residents experienced only their second day of
snow in 15 years, with white flakes covering palm trees, ancient Roman
ruins and Baroque churches across the capital.
Up to five centimetres of snow fell in some districts and
ancient monuments like the Colosseum were closed to visitors for fear
of damage to the structure.
Canals in Venice, where temperatures fell as low as -5
degrees, started freezing. However trains resumed normal service across
the country except in and around Bologna and on a local line near Rome
after days of delays.
Three people have died due to the extreme weather in recent days, including a homeless man found in Milan on Thursday.
An Italian ferry with more than 300 people aboard got
into difficulties off the port of Civitavecchia, north of Rome late on
Friday, hitting a harbour wall and ripping the side of the ship, port
authorities said.
Two tugs managed to bring the Sharden safely in with all passengers and crew safe and sound.
In Estonia, a man was found frozen to death on a street in Tallinn, the first reported death there.
France also reported its first death after an 82-year-old
man suffering from Alzheimer's wandered out of his home in his pyjamas
in the eastern French village of Lemberg and died of hypothermia.
One person died in Serbia, but teams of workers ploughed
through snowdrifts to get food, supplies and aid to thousands of
residents of mountain villages cut off by the weather.
"To help a woman who needed to reach a hospital we were
breaking through two-metre snow drifts, which lasted for two and a half
hours," said Vedran Taskovic, a rescuer in the south-eastern town of
Vranje. The cold snap has also killed people in the Baltic countries of
Latvia and Lithuania, as well as Austria and Greece.
Swathes of Britain were bracing for snow after
temperatures plunged to -11 degrees overnight in some areas, with
authorities warning that the cold could catch people off-guard after a
warmer-than-normal winter so far.
Further north, about 40 people were injured in about 100 road accidents caused by powdery snow and icy conditions, police said.
The first snows to hit Belgium caused more than 1100
kilometres of traffic jams on roads and highways, said car associations.
The last record was 948 kilometres registered in February 2010.
Algerian officials announced they had cancelled ferry
services to the southern French port of Marseille because of the
conditions.

This will be her second visit in the past few weeks to the electorally-crucial areas.
Rahul will also be campaigning across the state. On Thursday, Rahul addressed a rally in Meerut with ally and RLD chief Ajit Singh.
Priyanka has been feverishly campaigning for her brother in the politically significant state ever since the Election Commission blew the poll bugle.

She campaigned in Babuganj on January 16 and toured the state for the next three days covering Amethi and Raibareli.
She even hinted that she was ready to join politics if her brother wanted her to.
"(I) will campaign in Amethi and Rae Bareli right now. I will do anything Rahul wants me to do. (I) haven't decided yet on joining active politics. If Rahul wants me to campaign, I will campaign," she said, thus hinting at the clear shift in the power centre within the party from Sonia to Rahul.
The elections for the 403-member Uttar Pradesh Assembly will be held in February in seven phases.
New Delhi, : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Friday stressed on a systemic response to reduce chances of corruption and to ensure transparency, accountability and probity in public life.
Inaugurating the two-day Chief Secretaries conference here, Dr. Singh said: " We still have a long way to go in our efforts for ensuring transparency, accountability and probity in public life. I would urge all of you to ensure that the Centre and States work together to move ahead to achieve these goals."
Emphasising that progress is also being made on a law to regulate public procurement, Dr. Singh said: "The Bill on Citizens Charter introduced in Parliament will empower citizens to demand services from government departments."
"The Electronic Delivery of Services Bill has also been introduced in Parliament and as the name suggests it provides for electronic delivery of public services to our citizens," he added.
He also said that the government hopes to enact a strong Lokpal law soon.
"Unfortunately, the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Bill could not be passed in the last session of Parliament last year. But we do hope that we would soon be able to enact a strong Lokpal law. We still have a long way to go," Dr. Singh added.
He further informed that the National e-Governance Plan is being implemented to make use of Information and Communication Technology to improve delivery of services to our people.
"We have made rapid progress in providing Aadhaar numbers to about 13 crore residents, which will help in improving the delivery of programs, particularly those meant for the poor and the under-privileged, and in eliminating leakages. We have also recently approved the coverage of an additional 40 crore residents under the Aadhaar scheme," he said.
"All this builds upon our earlier initiatives such as the Right to Information Act, the Judicial Accountability Bill and the Whistle Blowers Bill. But we still have a long way to go in our efforts for ensuring transparency, accountability and probity in public life. I would urge all of you to ensure that the Centre and States work together to move ahead to achieve these goals," he added.
