Local pick up only in San Francisco Bay Area. I am willing to deliver within an hour drive of SF, but not willing to deal with shipping. Both houses could use a little TLC. Ideal person will have instagram/facebook/blog, or if not on social media will hopefully send me photos so I can see what you do with the houses.

So hi, it's been awhile. The breast cancer came back and then I had thyroid cancer too. It's been quite a run for the last year but after another 3 surgeries, chemo and radiation, I'm finally ~~cancer free~~ "NED" (No Evidence of Disease - I guess that's what they're calling it these days). Either way, as soon as I recover from the thyroid surgery I can start exercising again and getting healthier.

I have completely neglected this blog, and when I finally logged in, I realized there were a crap ton of ads after every post and in the sidebar. UGH! No more. In my settings I had selected only ads in the sidebar, but Google AdSense must have changed something while I was dealing with my health, and the ads were getting plastered everywhere. Adsense had paid me about $100 every year or so, but having ads all over my blog is just not worth it. So please enjoy my blog without the ads.

Wow, I haven't seen an in the box Kaleidoscope House on eBay for a few years. Asking $1,000 with shipping may seem steep, but there was a time when these in the box houses went for $2,000. 10 years ago used K Houses went for $800-$900. I got mine used with some cracks for $400 back in 2009, I'm not sure how in demand these houses still are.

There is a new Pottery Barn Kids Presidio Dollhouse Set on eBay going for $135 compared to $199 on sale at Pottery Barn. I'm tempted to "buy this for my daughter" for Christmas but the last two houses I've "given her" ended up being mine again. It seems like a fun house with a lot possibilities.

Fully furnished and decorated MiPad Floor 3 on Ebay

Elaine Shaw (MiPad designer) has listed a brand new fully furnished and decorated MiPad Floor 3 on Ebay. All proceeds go to her friend Jacqui Shimidzu who runs a community cafe in South London. She spent many hours creating this floor because The Hill Station is no ordinary cafe, Jacqui and the staff there do some amazing work for the community but really all they need you to do is like this offering enough to put in a bid for it. MiPad, furniture, accessories and decoration if bought separately are worth over £600 but whatever it goes for is fine by Elaine and there’s no reserve price so the highest bidder wins whatever the price. In other news... where the heck have I been?!? Between being back at work full time, the kids, volunteering as an art teacher and a Girl Scout Troop Leader, my miniatures have been on the very back burner. Then my cancer came back. Or more likely they didn't get all of it 3 years ago. So four surgeries later I lost a boob, gained an implant, lost an implant and now have just started chemo and will have radiation in November. Right now I'm trying to get the chemo pain under control and sleep whenever I can. Hope you all are happy, healthy and enjoying your summer!

Stolen miniatures in Vegas

I'm sure if you have ever attended a miniature show you know Grover and Mary Ann Ledyard selling as Wright Guide with their red and white checked shirts and display.

Their trailer, all miniatures, all scenes & all displays with lighting were stolen on Monday late afternoon at Sam’s Town Casino in Las Vegas. They lost it all and are on their way home back to Michigan with only their car.

The police are doing what they can and have even inspected the video tape from the casino but have found nothing to date.

They are obviously devastated as they have lost everything.

As their miniatures will be hard to sell by the thieves I am asking you all to keep your eyes out for items on eBay or Craig's list. Hopefully the miniatures will be found."

I added floor plans 1 and 5 to my floor 3 of my MiPad from Miaim Miniatures by Elaine Shaw. I saw the rooftop garden in Ulrike's dollhouse and emailed Elaine if I could get that as well. I don't think it's on the website yet, but email her for pricing and availability. Everything is made in London, and ships flat packed so shipping is affordable (I'm in the US) and it's really easy to assemble.

The blue windows are actually clear acrylic with a protective film on it. I thought it looked cool blue so I left them on for these photos but I'll take them off when I decorate. The roof top "glass" railing is what the windows will look like when the film is removed.

I can't wait to start decorating. I'm trying to find some fun wallpapers to give it a Palm Beach, Miami feel. With the holidays coming, I hope to carve out some time to decorating.

MiPad is up and running

So we bought our first house a year ago, and I'm finally getting around to setting up some of my dollhouses. We've had renovations that have gotten in the way but I found a corner in this room where the MiPad now lives. I think the bathroom turned out a little too large so I'll shrink that down a bit, but for now I have a least one completed dollhouse. Many more to come as I unpack more of my minis.

So, it's been almost a year since we bought our first life size house and I'm finally finding permanent homes for my mini houses. This weekend I dusted off the MiPad, The Antrim and Kaleidoscope House. I realized I REALLY need to find some better organization options for my mini storage. It was a hot mess finding everything.

I didn't make a ton of progress but I got 80% of the furniture in place. I need to find all of the accessories.

I bought my daughter the Lori Loft to Love dollhouse and most of the extra sets. This weekend was the first time she was really interested in minis. I think I'll bring her with me to the Good Sam Show in San Jose next month.

I'm loving the Lori Accessory sets sold by Target. The bathtub is great and everything except the sectional sofa is 1:12 scale and at $13-18 you can't beat the price.

More to come as the houses get accessorized.

I'm sorry it's been so long. Working on the real house has taken priority over the mini houses. I'm hoping to find some time this summer to start unpacking and get back to mini life.

I forgot that I never posted about this chair before. A few years ago a woman reached out to me for a custom order of an airport chair. Once a week her son flew to grad school, slept at the airport, spent all day in classes, then flew home to work his full-time job. As a graduation present she wanted a miniature airport chair replica to commemorate his strenuous year. I made this
Eames Tandem Sling Airport Chair for her. He loved it and uses it as a business card holder.

Our first dilemma is what to paint the kitchen? We are planning to demo and replace with a modern kitchen when budget allows but that will likely be a 3-5 years. Any suggestions? We are painting the main rooms light grey and white. The granite counters are a hot mess of navy blue and muddy white swirl. What's a girl to do?

A television production company contacted me looking for any UK crafters who build their own dolls houses. Each year they have competitions on the programme and this year they’re having a ‘Toys’ competition and are hoping to find some dollhouse builders.

The B&B Italia Arne low swivel bookcase looks like it could be a 1:12 scale dollhouse. Designed by Antonio Citterio in 2005 the bookcase measures 2'4"L x 2'4"W x 2'2"H. I'm trying to figure out how much it costs but it's no longer on the B&B Italia website so I'm guessing it has been discontinued. Bummer, I would have loved to decorate this as a dollhouse. I found it in the catalog of Autodesk's Homestyler Floor Planner, free software to help you design rooms.

I was surfing on Target.com to see if they were still selling the Loft to Love Dollhouse (they are but still not the furniture), when lo and behold what do I see... Lundby! Target is selling limited supplies of the Lundby Smaland Doll's House $99.95 and the Lundby Garden Bundle $128.75. It's exciting to see more modern dollhouse and big chain stores like Target. I really wish this was an indicator that they might start selling some furniture to go with them. Come on Target, let's get modern!

Mode spent 5 hours at my house filming my collection and interviewing me for their web series “My Design Life”. It’s a cool series of eclectic artists and interesting projects; the Samurai Hairstylist is pretty wild.

I was so nervous in front of the camera at first but they did a great job editing it. I'll post pictures and more details about the rooms that were edited out.

Well, it's been a long time, but I'm back! This past year has been a whirlwind as I've had several projects keeping me away from blogging. I spent a lot of time styling my dollhouses for photo shoots and magazine interviews. I was featured in The Dolls' House Magazine Sept 2015 issue, Bust Magazine Dec/Jan 2016 and Dolls Magazine March 2016. I'll be posting photos from these interviews over the next few weeks.

"Meet The Grown-Ass Ladies Making Tiny Dollhouses": Anna-Maria from The Shopping Sherpa, Christine from Call of the Small, Emily from Go Haus Go and myself were featured in a fantastic article on modern dollhouses written by Johanna Gohmann for BUST Magazine. It's a great read; you can check out the full article here.

Last month, I had a film crew come to my house to film my collection and interview me for a video series called "My Design Life" for Mode.com. I'll post more on that when the video is released.

For the past 9 years, I had been happily working from home for a small web design company, but my dream job found me and I went back to work full-time again. The new schedule has been quite an adjustment for my family. I'm out of the house by 7am and then back home with the kids at 6:30pm, make dinner, check their homework, and often fall asleep at 9pm when my daughter asks me to cuddle with her. I was exhausted. As it turns out I had cancer. 6 weeks after I started my dream job at Pandora Radio I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I started another blog Cancer Free Countdown to document my journey and keep family and friends updated. Amazingly, it was stage 1 and the cancer hadn't metastasized. I had a mastectomy in February and just last week I had my final reconstruction surgery.

As much as I'm still obsessed with miniatures, they have definitely taken a back seat. I'm hoping to carve out more time to getting back to blogging as I have a huge backlog of posts to share, but my main goal is getting through recovery and physical therapy to get full mobility back.

Target is killing me. Loft of Love by Our Generation. Yay Modern!!!

Target just dropped the $49.99 price for the Lori 6" Doll - Dollhouse down to $37.50!! BUT it's only sold in stores, so check if it is in stock before running to your local Target. Also called "Lori by OG Loft of Love Dollhouse" (OG is for Our Generation) it is going for RIDICULOUS prices on ebay (seriously, shame on them for selling for $175-$500!)

I'm hoping this is a new line and not just a one-off for the holiday season. The loft comes with the kitchen/bar/bar stools, but the living room, bedroom, office and outdoor furniture come in four separate sets. The furniture seems to also only be available in store and not online. On ebay the sets of furniture are selling for about $115 for all 4, Target is selling them for $12.99 each but only in some stores.

The loft fits 6" dolls and measures 18.5" tall, 20" wide and 12" deep which makes it great for 1:12 scale. It's made out of plastic and wood and requires 3 AAA batteries to operate the lamp in the kitchen.

Battery operated lamps were at CVS

I found these miniature architecture lamps at CVS - "House to Home Smart Book Light". I dissuaded mini2b from buying a similar one at the Good Sam Showcase of Miniatures, only for her to find out these flew off the shelves. She went to 3 CVS stores and they were sold out, but a manager said they might sell them again during the holidays since they were so popular. So sorry mini2b!!!

They come in a variety of colors. They are about 4" tall. The yellow lamp is in a 1:12 scale setting. The green is in a 1:24 scale room. They are a little too small for 1:12 and too big for 1:24, but they only cost 2 for $5, so I'm trying to find a way to make them work.

The neck and the middle joint flex but the base does not. Pictured is the range of motion you can get out of them. If you happen to see these for sale at CVS again, please let me know. :)
