Another post to cap off this space. Since the last show I've been figuring out my moving and job situations in New York. See the links below to listen to most of the last episode (missed some at the tail end). Some call ins from friends and shout outs to associates sprinkled throughout.

I'm still in Boston once or twice a month alongside Ryan Durkin at Zuzu for Solid some Fridays. I'll also be DJing alongside Big Digits, Juiceboxx and friends at Goodlife this coming Sunday (fb link here).

I wanna thank everyone who's been involved with the show, either listening, calling, cohosting, subbing, or even just reading this blog thanks a bunch. Also a very special thanks to the WZBC eboard, past and present, Judy Schwartz long time zbc faculty advisor, Doug and Paul of Pinwheels of your mind and Jet from Stare Into the Lake Astonished the two shows that preceded me all these years.

A big thanks also to all those who have inspired my DJ career outside the station. I've always been a big fan of what a lot of people in town do and the Ghostdad brand certainly wouldn't be the same without places like the Milky Way and Zuzu, as well as staples like Beat Research at Enormous Room (big ups Wayne and Flack) and everyone who puts in time making the Good Life an interesting venue for music. Big thanks to everone I've DJed alongside over the years I hope to keep linking with you!

I'll be teaching some aftershool classes in New York similar to the work I did at the ICA for those familair. I'll also be throwing my creative energy into more Fully Fitted activity. Be sure to watch that space to pick up where this blog leaves off. Been working on some secret sauce in the background with Devlin and Alexchange and all will be revelaed in due time...

On Moving

Sorry for being out of touch through the usual holiday gap and beyond. There have been lots of changes for me personally in the last few weeks that have resulted in some serious back and forth between New York and Boston.

Details aside, my story is typical. I've long been planning a shift to New York for a variety of job and family related reasons and the iron has been getting undeniably hot over the past 6 months or so. I've loved my time here in Boston. I think I've been able to cut my teeth in radio and DJing in a way I wouldn't have been able to anywhere else.

I hate to consider New York to be across some sort of uncrossable ocean I can never return from. I'd love to stay involved in DJing here whenever possible. For now I'll be keeping my bi-monthly residency with Ryan Durkin at Zuzu every 2nd and 4th Friday. But it doesn't appear my work schedule will allow mid week commutes up to hold down a spot on WZBC. And so it's with a heavy heart that I announce the last ever Mofo Radio will take place this Wednesday Jan. 20th at 10pm on WZBC.

Join me then. May have some guests in tow. Call ins definitely a must and I'll have a large list of thank yous to be read on air and to appear on this blog after the broadcast. Till then...

Josh Dunn kicked it off with some dubbed out disco and weird vinyl digs. Come to find out in addition to the work Josh does with Wax Poetics, he's also the curator the of the well designed and content rich 100 Liousines, one of my fave blogs for some time now. Hoping to hear more from Josh in the future!

Bennet4$enate is no stranger to the airwaves, having put in appearances on WNYU's A Downtown Affair, and Broken Tape Decks on WFMU. He busted out some classic disco and dance jams along with some crazy youtube digs. Straight hits from Bangs, Tonetweakers, and PSA's on for the upcoming job fair holler! Watch the Serious Business blog for updates on that crew and Bennett's new nights blasting off at the new Knitting Factory in Brooklyn.

Sobs finished us off with hip hop set heavy on the east coast flavors. He's put out a mixtape bigging up his east coast journey which I've just linked too over at Fully Fitted. He's down in New York this week so hit up his myspace for all the dates and locals. Don't miss him while he's in the belly!

Thanks again to these guys for coming out. It was great times I'd sit in a room and wear parkas with these dudes any day! I'm gonna be gone for the holiday but back soon after so see me on the next.

Highlights from last show's playlist include Jiggaman related cuts from YN's BP3 Breaks which is floating around, and a beat from Alex Goose's Blueprint 3 Outtakes. Also another cut from the amazing Arthur Russel's Sleeping Bag Sessions comp new on Traffic. Not to mention a scratchy 45" of Hotleg's (pre 10cc) Neanderthal Man as youtubed above.

This coming week, a mind meld of mind melds. Bennet4$enate and Josh Dunn both formerly of Wax Poetics in the building, and the big Texan himself Sober repping Decade Clothing as well as Shake Em Down visual coordinator (his latest offering aint half bad).

Evaready and Beat Perv on the airwaves

Two weeks ago was a doozy. Both Evaready and Beat Perv live DJing on the air. Gems dropping all over the place. Took me a while to get this up here as per usual. Forgive the dropouts/changes in audio levels form the top we were battling some bad cables starting out. Playlist is also gonna have to wait it's lost in Serato somewhere!

Que Bajo

New York's golden Cumbia boys, and the team behind the Que Bajo parties in Brooklyn, Uproot Andy and Geko Jones are on tour as we speak! Mostly hitting up the south and west coasts, including a stop in the deep south. Grab their free remix of Manuelita to see what you might be in for if you catch one of these guys live. Highly recommended! Full tour dates are posted at Remezcla, but I have it on good authority that Uproot Andy is headed back from Argentina and straight over to the ICA for their next Experiment party! Latin/German beats should be interesting.

And homeboy Sammy Bananas remix of Lady Gaga blazing it up over on the Hype Machine. Too explicit for airplay but it's great to see this once DIY remixer and DJ turned small label sensation get some mainstream love and grander internet recognition. Go get em Sammy! Note: after I reading the wikipedia on Lady Gaga I think I get it now.

If you tuned in tonight, you didn't hear me. Kern's now holds down the NCP2 slot every other Wednesday. Put the word out on the air last week but am late to the blog on it so sorry for if the switch is seems sudden. My reasons for reducing the number of radio shows in the month are many and include but are not limited to the amount of live DJing I've been doing, partially for fun and partially to pay the bills. I've also got some other projects bubbling in the ways of original music and mixes that may come to fruition in the near future. In the meantime I'll be with you every other week and watch Fully Fitted for everything else!

where did august go?

I find myself asking. Fall weather is already here but the last few (and only) weeks of summer heat were packed with some beach and travel time so I'm thankful for that. Sorry to have missed you though! Still since the last post there are two programs playlisted you could have been sleeplessly mulling over.

This Bullion Dilla v. Pet Sounds mash/mix/what have you has made plenty of blog rounds but it's good beats so I wanna offer it here for anyone who missed out. We heard Dilla beats meeting a cover of "God Only Knows" in one of those programs. You can grab the whole thing here while it lasts! Or a quick google search should turn up an active link.

This Hieroglyphic Being guy is kind of blowing my mind lately as well. His tunes all sound like jacking house made with only the general midi sound set played through a practice amp, and I'm way into it. Check the video above to get more in depth. Related videos reveal how he may actually be carrying on a longer lineage of afro jacking space house known only to those still riding the cosmic pathways between Detroit and Chicago. The track we heard "The Future Shock," is featured on the Dope Jams 3 Year Anniversary EP, limited to 100 copies only!

Okay theres are my lazy internet links for the last few weeks. Quick thanks to everyone who hosted me these past few while I was out of town, from my family and girlfriend's houses, to the couple of nights I played in New York and Philly that I somehow avoided blogging, good times had all around. Things are sure to pick up at the station these next few weeks starting with all new Mofo Radio Wednesday usual time. Got new vinyl and CD digs so be sure to tune in!

New Beginning

I've been having a blast these last few weeks. Playing all kinds of weird 80's vinyl digs like this Bucks Fizz 12" (inspiring video above). See the playlists for more similar and new stuff. Dug up a lot of my own records but I wasn't without a little help from my friends:

Thanks Giessel for passing along that Eyes Of A Stranger (WrongSpeed edit). Been Stuck in my head all week. We also heard Flack's most recent offerings to the Modyfier blog and a Micheal Jackson remix from Kiddid. Solid stuff.

Some other new suff we heard that may have sounded like old stuff include new singles from Coralcola and Teengirl Fantasty, two artists that in my mind will cosmically connect in the future now that I've played them back to back on my radio show.

But you don't have to take my word for it! You can always hit up the ZBC archives to listen to the past two week's programs. Listen to both before I'm on the air tonight because they get overwritten by the hour. And see you tonight at 10 for more Mofo Radio.

Whiskey Barons Live!

Dudes came through the studio last week to take secret sips and play hot jams. If you missed it check out the full audio below. To reiterate some points, Whiskey Barons are part of FLAVORHEARD and have a record for sale at TURNTABLE LAB (soon to be more locations). They laid down plenty of funky soul disco boogie and reggae grooves along with some exclusive originals you wont hear anywhere else! Ben also arranged a few tunes for the reggae two shot over at Fully Fitted (complete with links to his rocksteady mix check it on out).

Drinking with the Whiskey Barons tonight!

Excited to chill out tonight on the air with Ben and Sam of the Flavorheard crew and get a special set of musics behind the inspiration of their Whiskey Barons project (now avail at TTlab).

Last week's playlist featured some of their tunes, along with a bunch of vinyl from a vinyl yard sale in JP and that new Holy Ghost song with the video that rips off the New Order video (awesome stuff). Also some MJ tributes with another U-tern demo edit and also some material from Craig Smith's 6th Borough Project.

So join me again tonight with Whiskey Barons for some serial funkylatintastic radio (with maybe some other stuff in between). That's at 10!

The Dr. is in?

Sadly, I don't own any Patrick Gleeson LP's (at least I don't think I do), but seeing his cameo on this Pleasure album we've been listening to the last few weeks reminded me how deep this dude's production credits go, from collaborating with Herbie Hancock, to engineering Devo albums! Kind of a surprising cameo, his intro to this Pleasure album reminds me to keep an ear out for some great synth sounds throughout. Granted my vinyl copy of this record is terrible. I tried to find something online but to no avail so here's my ripped and heavily sound soaped copy to give you an idea of what I'm talking about:

Summer dubs

Summertime has rolled into WZBC and Mofo is plugging along in it's Wednesday spot. Last week's program was chock full of vinyl B-side dubs as well as a few dubs from compilations past. I feel like there's a lot of attention being paid to the art of the "dub" lately. Perhaps gives the Petite Feet dance dub nice and timely release, check it out at Fully Fitted!

I was originally going to round up some tracks from this Dubstars compilation for a Reggae Two Shot, but it appears the iTunes database has messed up all the id3 tags (boo). I'm piecing it back together and I may still insert some in the Fully Fitted reggae stream, but for now I'll share a disco morsal with this take on a Will Powers classic:

On the air tonight, Glowing next week

Coupla links before the show tonight. I'll be on the air at ten but will taking next week off to join fellow JP dudes for a future disco night at the Midway called The Glow. Alfredo from Manifest Destitute will be one of those dudes and a big shout out to his blog for the great tunes and vids lately. Hate to miss the show but psyched to be at the night I've sadly always missed! Looking for ways to perhaps live internet broadcast (or even video cast) in the absence, I'll see if I can work it out!

Speaking of great tunes I've been loving Prince Klassen's edit of London Girl. Lots of tasteful EQing and slow burning. He mentioned it wasn't getting much love so I wanted to link to it here seeing I've played it on the show and probably the last three times I've played out.

Stay up to date on your Reggae Two Shots at Fully Fitted, and on the subject of reggae big shouts to Amphibious and his latest offering in the Flavorheard Radio series. New Disco roundup

Been playing plenty of funky chunes from today times that are made to sound like they were made in yesteryear, and oh how I love them in their deceptive practice! The amazing video above comes from DC's Beautiful Swimmers and we heard some tracks from their 12" out on the Future Times imprint. Hit up the label page for lots of good tracks and mixes, including a mix from the Beautiful Swimmers themselves. I'm really feeling these guys groove heavy handed on an 80's kinda protopopfunk thing.

Trus'me has been getting some buzz for a minute but I finally got my hands on their Still No Check ep. Building some tunes out of what sound like lifted disco snippets and fuzzy AM radio sounds these guys also manage to get deep with it with lengthy slow burning house beats. Here's a track from them that fits the earlier description from another release.

Not to mention the slew of Rub-N-Tug edits (and deep side projects), and some In Flagranti new stuff (find the hidden track in this post) there are plenty of these edit meets remix meets original tracks floating around and I'm loving every minute of it. These projects seem to have an appreciation for an old school style of production where every mix and dub was just as important as the original song. Perhaps words like "sampling" and "remix" didn't exist back then it was all just part of how things were done. I can't claim to know exactly how it went down but I'm definitely feeling this hark to disco past with some nice new elements that keep it fresh. Right on dudes.

Speaking of all this new/old/disco/house/dance stuff what better way to dig deep then to see the dudes that may have started it all. Metro Area play Goodlife this Saturday

Emotional disco rants aside, I'll be taking this week off from the show as well. Scheduling hasn't been in my favor lately and I've got to run to New Jersey for a funeral. Not the best of circumstances but a good time to reflect and catch up with family etc. I'll be back on air next week. See yall then!

big weekend

Big weekend in JP and greater Boston area. Big Digits are playing at Spontaneous Celebrations for the first time in a long time. Over in Cambridge the Megapolis festival is in full swing the whole weekend though with a slew of Z sponsored events. The weather is so great it's worth multiple bike rides in either direction to catch all the action. More later, for now enjoy the weekend!

Tons of stuff coming up and coming out but I'm already ahead of myself. As promised here's a few tid bits from the last few weeks:

A Silent Flute has been linked to the Fully Fitted page for a minute now. I originally knew it as a blog of crazy obscure videos and amazing gems raked from the depths of youtube, but with his entry into the Live At Home archive I found it also a destination of some solid mixtapes. All sorts synthed out 80's, crazy disco, and movie score interludes make these mixes equally as gem worthy as ASF's youtube finds. We heard a the a little bit of his most recent mix Vector Dance in the program two weeks ago.

On to Ryan Durkin, doing big things and blowing up the indie hip hop mixtape circuit with the lead cut on Outasight's From There To Here (an album prequal). We heard "People, Places, Things" in the program. Hit up Outasight's myspace to download the entire mix. You might remember Durknasty from his appearance on Mofo way back when. Or from various mentions on this blog and DJ gigs we play together. Find us at Joseph's Pizza late night if nowhere else!

And there's a whole mess or records I've been meaning to rip and share but where's the time really!? Lately I've been indulging hard in everyone else on the internet's efforts. Last week was Tricky.

Mofo's been going strong. Check the playlists from two week's ago and last week. Had a bunch of what you might call "trip hop" records in hand last week having rushed to the studio after opening for Tricky. As in THE Tricky yah no joke! It was a fun time. Got to play some weird stuff as people were arriving. Busted out all the 90's Ninjatune, Mowax and Warp I had. I'm maybe a half a generation too late on the original Tricky but I figured that'd be a good fit. Played some new beats as well and stayed for the first few Tricky songs which were intense. Full band and massive shoegazery synth and guitar lines. I guess his new album is getting attention but I bet he still makes a fair amount of bank off of Overcome (video above).

Aaaaanway, a quick re-holler at the Reggae Two Shots going up at Fully Fitted (a particularly duby edition this week). And I've also been really digging on some DJ "edits" floating around on the internet these days including Eli's Vitamin C re-edit and U-Tern's Pretty Young Thing demo edit. Plenty funky all around.

Expect some more vinyl tune tryouts and latest from the webs again this evening. Brand new stuff from Ryan Durkin and A Silent Flute I'd like to blog in more detail on the follow up entry. For now you'll have to tune in tonight to get my take on it. See you then!

Busy weeks are getting the better of me yet again. Special thanks to LoudSound for filling in for me last week and this coming week as I run around between Jersey trips, DJ gigs, and NY home studios.

Wanted to throw some links at you from two weeks ago's playlist. First is this new Bottin video featuring a track from his new EP. I've been playing a ton of stuff from the Italians Do It Better catalog on the show lately.

We also heard a new discoish remix of Sneaky Sound System in Hugg's set a few weeks ago which prompted me to do more research on this guy Breakbot. Found this Metronomy remix that's real slow and funky. Love these changes.
