Ok, to determine the winner I had some help from my Twitter followers and math. I asked my Tweeps to give me some numbers and I got: 9, 7, 36, 3, 1945 and 43. Now if we add all those numbers together we get 2043. And now some help from math: we use the number of comments (42) and calculate the modulus (remainder) and that’s the winner. Brilliant, not?!

So. 2043 mod 42 = 27. So the person who wrote the 27th comment is our first winner of the Monthly Sketch Giveaway of January 2012. And that person is… Mark Stokes.

This comic really took me a long time to create. I had absolutely no idea what to make. I have a couple notebooks full with ideas, but I just had no click with any of them. I just couldn’t find a way to make it work. I clearly had a writers block. But luckily I can always count on my comic colleagues. Dawn (of Zorphbert and Fred) send me a link to an article she wrote about how to overcome a writers block. The article was very useful (so thanks Dawn!) and made me start to write down words after words after words. And eventually – after another 1 or 2 hours thinking, staring and sweating – I got this idea. And I’m pretty happy  with it. It doesn’t even look like it was made while under pressure, if I might say so. What do you think?

Update: after I woke up this morning and looked at the comic, I noticed that while tweaking the texts last night, I totally tweaked it the wrong way. I removed all texts from the original idea and the whole intention was gone. So now I needed to tweak it a little and change it after I posted it. Which I rarely do, since I just don’t think it’s good to tweak the comic after it’s posted… if I would do that, I could keep on tweaking EVERY comic I ever created. So that’s why I decided for myself to not tweak/change a comic in any way after it’s posted. I only sometimes change the text to correct spelling mistakes. So this update is pretty unusual, but I thought is was necessary.

I don’t know about you, but I really loved this comic when creating it. After inking, I looked at the result and couldn’t help but smile of pride. This is really the linework I was going for. And while coloring I always really zoom in on the drawings… and that even made me more proud. I almost couldn’t believe I created this

Sometimes I draw my characters in such a way, that I’m really happy about the result, but have no idea how I got to that drawing.

For example… I love how Mojo looks in the 3rd panel… but have no idea why he looks so nice there and so less-nice in the 4th panel. Maybe it’s because his expression is more exaggerated? Have no idea
