]On August 28th, after leaving the Toronto brewery golf tournament I had the opportunity to capitalize on a gorgeous day and head north to Creemore, ON. The annual Copper Kettle Festival was happening, which boasts an awesome street festival including live music, local food fare, pony rides and of course, a beer garden! The plan was to head up immediately after leaving the tournament, but unfortunately there were a few glitches before finally heading out to Creemore.

I finally arrived at 6:00, and had missed most of the festival unfortunately, but was delighted to see there were still some festival goers hanging around at each of the three patios in Creemore. My friends and I grabbed some dinner at one of the patios, and I noticed that there were plenty of people dressed in Creemore t-shirts, complimented by a pint of Kellerbier. After finishing up our dinners, I decided to approach different people hanging around the patio to ask how they found the festival and if they enjoyed themselves. The answer? They absolutely loved it! The weather was perfect, the beer was cold, music was great and the food was awesome, which is why even after the festival ended, people were still enjoying themselves around town.

Based on the positive feedback, I am hopeful that next summer I will actually make it on time to enjoy the whole day rather than just a dinner after the fact. If you haven’t been, it’s definitely an event worth checking out year, and a perfect excuse to get out of the city!

Check out the video to see a testimonial from a Creemore Springs aficionada I approached that evening!

On August 28th, I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Molson Coors Toronto Brewery annual golf tournament. As always, I love to volunteer at brewery events to see familiar faces and meet so many other great Molson Coors employees. While I was over at the Molson Coors Pub, I gave plant workers a demonstration of how to use Yammer – a tool we’re using globally to help employees communicate about all things Molson Coors. The response was awesome, it’s great to see how enthusiastic 1 Carlingview is to “join the conversation.”

The purpose behind the tournament was two-fold: to get employees together and to raise money for the Sick Kids Hospital…and they did just that, by successfully raising a whopping $32,000 and approximately $4,000 from raffle tickets!

The day began with a quick BBQ at the Molson Coors Pub and then all the golfers headed over to the Woodbine Golf Course. Briefly before teeing off, the cheque for the Sick Kids Hospital was presented by Brewery Manager Benoit Maillette, Social Club Committee President John Medeiros, and Brewery Site Service Manager Dave Kennedy to Lee Nichols who joined the tournament on behalf of Sick Kids Hospital. The day ended back at the Molson Coors Pub, where there was live entertainment and another BBQ.

Last year, the Toronto Brewery Golf Tournament raised just under $14,000 for Sick Kids within two weeks time. This year’s tournament included several more meetings and time to raise even more money for the cause.

“The 2010 Toronto Brewery Golf Tournament was a huge success for a worthy cause. Hopefully we can continue to host these fundraisers and raise more money each year.” said John Medeiros, President of the Social Club Committee.

Cheers to the Social Club Committee for doing such an awesome job with the tourney!

The Molson Canadian World Hockey Summit kicked off last night at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, ON with a full house of hockey professionals, experts, enthusiasts and media. Over the next three days, the summit will dissect the current state of hockey to identify and address key concerns and issues facing the game today. Topics of conversation will range from an Agents’ Roles with Young Players to International vs. North American Hockey to 2010 Winter Games Evaluation and Women’s Hockey (and many more).

7th Generation Molson family member Geoff Molson dropped by yesterday and today to support the Summit, and we were able to sneak a couple minutes of his time to chat about hockey and Molson Coors with @MolsonFerg.

This September 18-26th, thousands of Canadians will take time out of their busy lives to rehabilitate their local shorelines through the removal of shoreline litter in the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup. This year Molson Canadian is excited to play its part as a National Sponsor, partnering with the Vancouver Aquarium and WWF-Canada

In 2009, participants removed litter from 2,457 km of shoreline in Canada, making the GCSC Canada’s largest contributor to the International Coastal Cleanup, a global effort to remove harmful litter and aquatic debris from shorelines.

How it works:

There are two ways to get involved. You can help cleanup by becoming a participant of an existing cleanup, OR, you can organize a cleanup by becoming a Site Coordinator. Groups, families, companies, individuals are all welcome!

Why are we involved? Well, we believe that good business practices include environmental stewardship, and September at Molson Coors Brewing Company is a Month of Action focused on Water. Water is essential to the brewing process – without great water, we can’t make great beer. More about Molson Coors Water Stewardship

There are hundreds and hundreds of cleanups organized across the country, so you’ll most likely be able to find one close to you. Molson Coors employees will be joining the pack to help preserve and restore the beauty that Canada is. I’ll have more details about our involvement in the coming weeks – hope to see our water (and beer!) loving friends join us

Have a great weekend everyone.

Cheers,

Our Helpful Team of Molson Coors Volunteers!

Hey all,

Lindsay here, the newest intern with the Public Affairs team in Toronto and I’m writing my first blog post for Molson Coors Canada…very exciting stuff! I had the opportunity to lend a helping hand with Alain Quintard and his team for the RONA MS Bike Tour…read on for the details of the day!

On August 10, Alain Quintard gathered employees from 33 Carlingview Drive to help package snack bags for the upcoming Rona MS Bike Tours on behalf of the MS Society. Alain has been volunteering with the MS Society for 7 years, raising money to help cure this debilitating disease which affects a large percentage of Canadians.

Alain has taken it upon himself to help organize the Toronto Bike Tour, one of 5 bike tours for MS, which is proudly being sponsored by Molson Coors Canada. Other tours include Acton to Waterloo, and Niagara Falls. In order to participate, cyclists must pay a registration fee and raise a minimum of $250 in pledges.

“By giving some of my time and effort for a good cause such as MS, I’m not only giving but also receiving a lot in return. And sometimes, when I’m a few strides away from reaching a finish line after several hours of pushing and pushing on my skates to the point I’m almost ready to give up, I have some special thoughts for those who are not as fortunate as I am to do what I’m doing. As soon as I cross the finish line, I can start resting; but for these people, the line where they could finally rest is so far away! With every raised dollar, nickel or penny, we’ll one day find a cure and they will cross their line to rest.” Said Alain Quintard, Distribution Quality Specialist at Molson Coors.

The team, which included Donna Razik, Mike MacDonald, Marta Horofker, Dan Thiemann, Sebastien Gagner, and Anne Renner spent six hours at the MS Society office located in downtown Toronto, packaging perfectly portioned snack bags for cyclists in each bike tour. The Toronto Bike Tour will be held on September 12, at 9:30 a.m., beginning and ending at Centennial Park in Etobicoke. The tour lengths are 30 km, or 55km.

Big thanks to the team for helping out with such a great cause, and we wish Alain a fun and safe bike tour!

Yup, this Saturday, August 7th is National BBQ Day, and the national, youth-led charity Meal Exchange is inviting Canadians to take part in the yummy day while also fighting hunger in Canada.
What’s the ask? It’s simple:
Register & host your own backyard BBQ for friends, family and neighbors to raise awareness about Canada’s hunger problems.

Meal Exchange believes that everyone in Canada should have access to sufficient, nutritious, and culturally acceptable food in order to maintain a healthy & active life. Did you know that 2.7 million Canadians don’t know where their next meal is coming from?

How to participate (and a change to win 2 WestJet tickets!):

Register your BBQ at http://nationalbbqday.eventbrite.com/ and send Meal Exchange a photo of your BBQ’ing fun to nationalBBQday@mealexchange.com

You can also tweet about your BBQ fun using hashtag – #nationalBBQday

Registration is FREE, but here’s some food for thought: it takes only $28 for Meal Exchange to empower one youth to take action against hunger in their community. Donate here to help Meal Exchange support youth across Canada.

So this pretty much sounds like the perfect day to me – BBQ, a case of Rickard’s beer (taster’s pack – Red, White and Dark of course) and raising awareness about hunger.

Will you be participating? Have a BBQ/grilling recipe worthy of National BBQ Day!
