Born in 1880, Percival Molson, affectionately called Percy is one of the most outstanding athletes in the history of Canada. At the age of 16, he participated in the Stanley Cup championship with the Montreal Victoria hockey team. He studied at McGill University where he is involved in many different sports teams. In addition to being captain of the hockey team, he was also one of the best players in soccer and racket sports at the university. As a matter of fact, Percy wins the title of best “universal athlete” three years in a row, a feat still unequaled in the history of McGill. Adding to his list of achievements is a world record in the long jump at the US track and field rally in 1903.

Even after his graduation in 1901, Percival Molson continues to be interested in the university. In 1911, he creates a committee with the help of some former McGill students to build a stadium on campus. Unfortunately, the project is halted by the outbreak of the First World War. Appointed Lieutenant, Percival Molson joins the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry in 1915, where he is deployed to France in October of the same year. In May 1916, Percival is hit in the face by a German bullet that penetrates both cheeks and fractures his jaw. In August 1916, Percy returns to Canada with his brother Herbert, also injured in the war. They both receive the Military Cross for bravery and Percival is promoted to Captain. He returns to the front in April 1917. On July 4 of the same year, a mortar fire explodes while Percy is talking with three other soldiers, where he suffers a deadly concussion. Known for his talent but also for his kindness, joy and honesty, Percival’s death comes as a terrible shock to his regiment, his many friends and especially his family. His grave is located at the military cemetery and bears the inscription “a gentleman” engraved by a stranger.
In his will, he leaves $ 75,000 (or about 1.4 million in today’s dollars) to McGill University for the construction of a stadium.

Today, personal trophies of Percival Molson are permanently exposed at McGill University. Sir Arthur Currie gymnasium displays 56 medals, 19 cups, 2 velvet caps, a silver spoon and a congratulations scroll. In 1963, Molson was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame posthumously for his athleticism and sportsmanship.

To me Our Beer Print in Supply Chain is all about doing more with less, we’ve been doing this in Supply Chain for as long as I can remember. Producing more beer whilst using less of the earth’s resources is good for the planet and also produces savings for us!

The World Class Supply Chain program sets out the roadmap for how we will continue to optimize our breweries and logistics operations across eight different pillars:

Environment, Health & Safety

Quality

People, Management

Team Empowerment

Logistics

Asset Care

‘Our Beer Print’

The Our Beer Print pillar gives our breweries the tools and management systems to enable them to deliver our very ambitious 2020 Sustainability Strategy targets.

It gathers together all the current best practice from international standards such as ISO50001 and ideas already implemented across our Global Supply Chain on energy & water efficiency and waste management. I love that our breweries in Canada, Central Europe & India can take how the UK breweries got to zero waste to landfill back in 2012 and use the learnings to achieve that themselves rather than having to invent it!

I have to say I am most excited by our adoption of anaerobic digestion waste water treatment with biogas recovery as a strategic technology for Molson Coors that every brewery will evaluate. When I was Plant Manager in Ploiesti in Romania, I had one of these waste water treatment plants and using the gas given off by the cleaning of our brewery effluent (our waste water) to power our boilers really made me feel good. Reducing waste to the environment whilst getting free power to brew with, what a win-win!

Our Beer Print in Supply Chain put simply, is running an efficient business that does more with less every year. I’m proud of the work done so far in all our breweries worldwide on World Class Supply Chain implementation and the results it will deliver.

Cheers to Our Beer Print!

VP Global World Class Supply Chain, Production

For 11 years, Kamenitza has hosted the biggest amateur soccer tournament in Bulgaria, aptly named the Kamenitza Fan Cup. At this year’s 11th annual Responsible Business Awards, the Kamenitza Fan cup received the first runner-up award for excellence in cause-related marketing.

The annual awards ceremony, organized by the Bulgarian Business Leaders Forum, recognizes those Bulgarian businesses that excel in corporate social responsibility. The Responsible Business Awards is the most prestigious CSR competition in Bulgaria and this year a record number of companies participated.

We’ve always known that being a great beer company involves more than just brewing. In that tradition, the Denver and Golden offices hold an annual giving campaign to support the Mile High United Way and make a positive impact in our community.

This year’s campaign raised a record breaking $175,000 – an increase of 30% over last year!

Each year, Mile High United Way honours exceptional companies for their outstanding employee campaigns and demonstrated commitment to the community. Molson Coors received the Champion of Hope award, which recognizes companies who go above and beyond financial contribution to Mile High United Way with in-kind donations, volunteerism and by creating a culture of giving within their organizations.

Cheers to the Denver and Golden offices for helping to improve our positive Beer Print in the communities we live and work.

Night of Museums is a unique cultural event providing locals and tourists the opportunity to tour multiple museums, which remain open until late at night for free. It started in Croatia in 2005 and Zagrebačka Pivovara, a Molson Coors company, joined as a partner five years later.

On January 31, for the fifth consecutive year, Zagrebačka Pivovara surprised many visitors with a night of entertainment and educational programs at the Museum of Zagrebačka Pivovara. Visitors were able to return to the past as a part of the historical overview that included newspapers from the 1892 which included articles about the establishment of the brewery, Christmas Beer artwork from the past 24 years, and old labels and artifacts from the brewery’s rich history. Visitors also had the opportunity to learn about the proper beer pouring ritual, see an informational film of Zagrebačka Pivovara and natural beer production, enjoy their favorite beer and even buy beer souvenirs!

Zagrebačka Pivovara hosts a growing number of visitors and plays an important role in Zagreb’s diverse cultural offering.

Night of Museums History
Night of Museums (Noć muzeja) is organized by Croatian museums and other cultural institutions. The first Night of Museums was held in Berlin in 1997, and because of the overwhelming interest, it soon spread across multiple institutions and various cities throughout Europe and the world. Over the years, a number of cities, cultural institutions and visitors have steadily increased to a record this year with 350,900 visitors in 100 cities and more than 200 institutions.
