Jenny can save you some time - she took a bunch! Check out her weekly blog post - and scroll down to Week 16 to see all the tests she took to find out the gender!

Pregnancy log - week 15 - Jenny Ford of Monkey-Toes

Jenny Ford, owner of Monkey-Toes - the cutest hand-painted kid's shoes on the planet - posts to her pregnancy blog for Week 15. I was lucky enough to have MyBlogspark send me samples of four flavors, Nut Lovers, Honey Roasted Peanut, Roasted Cashew, and Roasted Almond. Do I have a favorite? Yes - all of them. I love granola, I love all types of nuts, but these clusters are the perfect combination because they come in bite sizes. Perfect for breaking up into your yogurt to give it a little extra something (my new favorite breakfast sundae - try it!). Plus they are in resealable bags, so you can open all 4 and keep them fresh and eat whatever flavor you have a desire for.

The product is all natural so you don't have to feel guilty about eating something so delicous (because it's so nutritious!)

We're huge fans of the Crunchy Granola Bars in our house too. With a 2 year old, a 16 year old, a picky eater for a husband and myself, we try to get something that satisfies everyone's snack cravings. Nature Valley does the trick. Try them for yourselves. Get a $1 coupon from Nature Valley.

Lots of goodies from Sharpie! He's 100% protected while looking so cute too!

If you're unfamiliar with UVSkinz - you need to read the story behind the company's creation.

Entrpeneur Rhonda Sparks has been on a mission to help prevent skin cancer since she lost her husband Darren to malenoma at the age of 32. She doesn't want anyone else to contract this disease that can take you without a warning.

UVSkinz was created to provide fashionable apparel for baby, kids and adults that protects them from the sun.

What does a UVSkin do that sunscreen can't do? Here's an exerpt from the UVSkinz.com website.

It is very fortunate that sunscreen products are available for use as a second line of defense. However, sunscreens sometimes fail, usually attributable to user error, which can result in unintentional sunburn.

By contrast, clothing is:
Cost effective — A garment costs about the same as one or two bottles of sunscreen, but lasts much longer On average, a more effective UV blocker — Less prone to “missed spots” or “under application” Dependable — Doesn’t wash off, rub off, dissipate, penetrate, or expire Not messy —

Spillproof Not an irritant — Doesn’t cause eye irritation or acne Quicker to apply — Covers large areas in a hurry What is the UV Index?

The UV index is an international standard measurement of how strong the ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun is at a particular place on a particular day. It is a scale primarily used in daily forecasts aimed at the general public.

Its purpose is to help people to effectively protect themselves from UV light, of which excessive exposure causes sunburns, eye damage such as cataracts, skin aging, and skin cancer (see the section health effects of ultraviolet light). Public-health organizations recommend that people protect themselves (for example, by applying sunscreen to the skin, wearing uv protective clothing and wearing a hat) when the UV index is 3 or higher. For more information, go to http://www.epa.gov/sunwise/uvindex.html.

Are the sun’s rays more intense at higher altitudes?
UV radiation increases 4% for every 1000 foot increase in elevation (i.e. UV radiation is 20% more intense at 5000 feet than at sea level)

Can I get sunburned from the sun reflecting on a surface?
UV rays that are reflected can be just as damaging as direct exposure
Sand/concrete reflects 25% UV radiation

Snow reflects 85% UV radiation

Water reflects 100% UV radiation

What is the difference between UVA and UVB rays?
UVA rays have long wavelengths and penetrate deeply while UVB rays have short wavelengths and are the primary cause of sunburns UVA rays damage skin’s connective tissues leading to premature aging and contributing to skin cancer development while UVB rays are the primary contributor to skin cancer development UVA rays pass through window glass while UVB rays are blocked by window glass Make sure your sunscreen is a “broad spectrum” sunscreen which protects against both UVA and UVB rays.

What is UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) vs. SPF (Sun Protection Factor)?
Both are measures of sunburn protection. SPF is used in reference to sunscreens while UPF is used for sun protective fabrics. SPF is a measure of the additional factor beyond the natural amount of time that a person can withstand the sun before getting burned. If a person can stay in the sun for 10 minutes before getting sunburned and applies an SPF 15 sunscreen, then that person should be able to remain in the sun without getting sunburned for 150 minutes (10 minutes x SPF 15 = 150). SPF indicates protection against UVB rays but is not an indicator of UVA protection. UPF measures how much of the sun’s rays are penetrating a garment. A UPF 50 rating means that the fabric only allows 1/50th (2%) of the sun’s UV rays to pass through it and blocks out 98% of UV rays. UPF protection applies to both UVA and UVB rays.

Breastfeeding for a year Blog

Welcome new blogger to our community!

Breasfeeding for a Year!

Created by my sister Christine, she will chronicle her not so easy journey of nursing my beautiful niece. It's only available for a limited time. Has it been an entire decade that these products have helped soothe babies and parents? Time flies!

Wubbanubs have been produced in great numbers and in lots of colors and many friendly animal shapes. It was started by a mom and dad's frantic search for something to calm their baby and make them feel safe. Out came a sewing kit and Mom and Dad Schneider figured out to sew the pacifier onto a plush toy and the rest is definitely history - because 10 years later they're still accomplishing their goal.

Wubbanub's are sold across the country in finer baby and childrens' specialty stores, specialty toy stores, and internet web sites.

WubbaNubs are safe for babies with the strict new government standards recently put into place. As a manufacturer of baby products and their diligence to promote "safety first", they have found educational and informative resources for parents and caregivers to reference for critical safety information which will assist in establishing safe environments for babies. Among them are the JPMA, a national trade organization of juvenile products, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Check out Wubbanub.com for more info!

Sleep Pretty in Pink is a must-have for new moms!

Was I thrilled to get the Sleep Pretty In Pink product to review? You bet I was!

My 2 year old Sam has his moments (still!) when he screams in the middle of the night and I have to run to his room, get him out of his crib and rock him back to sleep. My pediatrician told me I was nuts and I would regret it when he continues this behavior well into his toddler years. Call me crazy, but I can't ignore the sound of my child crying for me.

So, here is this awesome product that is just right for moms like me with the guilty conscience! The ear plugs are the softest I've ever felt (and I've tried pretty much everything). They're pink - so I know their mine. AND there's a beautiful pink sleep mask that at first I would never wear, and now on the weekends, I can't sleep without it. (My husband is on Sammy duty at dawn so I can sleep in a few more hours). I've had eye masks in the past that were pretty flimsy and I could still see light through the bottom. This mask has some substance to it but not enough to make it heavy on your face or uncomfortable to wear. It fits snugger around your nose and comes down a little further under your eyes so the light doesn't shine through. It's a little bit of decadence I get to have to partake in catch-up sleep over the weekend. Their website sleepprettyinpink.com and they list the retailers where you can by the kit. I must say I didn't notice them before before. But now I know they work so well, I'll be sure to tell everyone I know to grab them.

Sleep well, finally!

Mom and Baby can travel in style with bags from Timi and Leslie

Here's a terrific and very stylish diaper bag created with busy mom's in mind. Timi and Leslie have brought bags "for the woman in every mom" to the marketplace. And we love them! It has all the required essentials such as bottle tote, changing pad, wristlets, and some models have a diaper/wipes bag as well as medicine bag. These have been created to make you feel like you're carrying the hippest purse or tote rather than a 'childlike' diaper bag.

Since they've got the moms covered, check out what they have for little tikes to travel in style!

"Le Petite Voyage" in a circus print. But have you seen any that are luxurious on the inside so it's comfy and cozy for baby, along with a built-in blanket, as well as a latch for a pacifier or toy so they don't get lost or dirty when they fall to the ground?

Snugglemez.com is the place to check them out.

There are a variety of designs and colors to choose from and the blanket conveniently folds up into a roll and is tucked away when you don't need it. You never have to leave the house again with an extra blanket.

Designed by a mompreneur, Alisa Kress, in Sacramento, CA, when she couldn't find a product that solved her problem of dropping and losing blankets, toys and pacifiers with her own child. So she connected with her husband and they created their own and gave them away as gifts. Just like most other starts for a mompreneur business. Soon enough, the demand was high enough that they realized it was a great business opportunity, and Snuggle Me'z was born. (To learn about the story behind the name, visit her site).

Makes a unique and greatly desired Baby Shower gift for the mom-to-be!

Denver moms - you gotta check out Robbi's Cakes and Pastries!

Robbiscakesandpastries.blogspot.com is a great place to check out photos of mindblowingly delicious cakes and pastries. It's oil and alcohol-free and dries quickly. There's no sticky feeling or residue on your skin which makes you want to put it on. The product line was riginally developed for professional athletes, and is sweat and water resistant. Another aspect we love about the product is that they are available in the perfect travel sizes - 1oz. and 4oz. packages. They're perfect to keep in a purse, backpack or duffle bag.

All KINeSYS products are carbon neutral and 100% cruelty-free and all of the product packaging is made of 100% recyclable materials.

The various sunscreens are designed to both protect from the sun and rejuvenate. The products are available in either a cream or the exclusive microSPRAY® formulation – a non-aerosol ultrafine mist (you really have to try this - it's like spraying air on your skin it's so light).

The product line includes:

* SPF 30 Girl Sunscreen Spray: Rich in Vitamin E for maximum complexion protection; sprays on light with an unbeatable vanilla and green tea scent

* FUNSCREEN Sunscreen Spray: The kids are covered when it comes to sun protection, with this Parent Tested Parent Approved (PTPA) award winner

* KIDS SPF 30 Sunscreen Spray: More sun-busting fun for kids. iParenting and Mom’s Best award winner.

* KINeSYS SPF 30 Sunscreen Spray: Unparalleled sun protection for every lifestyle, in light-mango scent or fragrance-free

* Performance Moisturizer with SPF 15: Rejuvenation meets protection in a single bottle

* Sun Protection Stick: Heavy duty protection for hard to protect skin

* Footspray: Soothing foot relief in a convenient non-aerosol spray

* Analgesic Sport Stick: Penetrating warm/cool pain relief

KINeSYS is also a proud signatory to the Compact for Safe Cosmetics, a national coalition of nonprofit health and environmental organizations whose goal is to shift the cosmetics market toward safer products and to advocate for smarter laws that protect our health from toxic chemicals and encourage innovation of safer alternatives.

Why don't you check out their site to learn more about how you can protect yourself and your family this summer - http://www.kinesys.com/.

KODAK's Mom-A-Thon Million-Card Giveaway

KODAK’s MOM-A-THON Million-Card giveaway is in honor of Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 10th.

They jokingly say they hope the giveaway will help cure the ever growing disease "Lacktus Appreciatia" aka not appreciating your mom. Watch the video from Florence Henderson about how rampant this disease really is. It's a gentle yet humorous reminder to appreciate your mom everyday.

Free Card Instructions
To send your mom a special gift for Mother’s Day, simply visit KODAK Gallery’s MOM-A-THON site to upload your photo and create a custom photo card. Your family is safe and snug in bed, and your kids are having sweet dreams. Then around 3am you hear the ear piercing "BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!" and it won't stop. You wake up in total panic, realizing it's your smoke detector (or carbon monoxide detector) and you quickly race around your house to make sure there isn't a fire - and to pull the batteries out of your detector. This scenario happened to my family and I practically jumped out of my skin when it happened. How do you calm everyone down and go back to sleep after that? You don't. You basically do your best and end up getting out of bed at an ungodly hour. Save yourself the trouble. Change your batteries BEFORE they run out.

If you've read any of my other posts, you know I'm a fan of Energizer Rechargeables as well as their traditional battery products. The rechargeable batteries do work in smoke detectors, however you'll have more peace of mind if you use a battery with higher voltage, such as the Energizer Max battery.

I have now promised myself that whenever the clocks change in the Fall and Spring, I'm going to automatically change the batteries in my detectors to avoid this heart palpatation event from happening again and scaring the bejezuz out of my 2 year old! Why don't you come up with a plan for your household smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Perhaps it's at the First of the Year, or when seasons change or even on your birthday. Pick a date and stick with it.

Plus, be prepared! Have your Energizer batteries on hand so you don't go even 1 day without batteries in your detectors. Don't risk the safety of your family. Give it a try!

"Life Without Summer" - a great novel and must-read for all mothers by Lynne Griffin

I received the book "Life without Summer" to review last Friday and curled up on the couch Saturday night to begin reading it. I was engrossed for several hours and by last night, I had completed it.

I don't believe I've been drawn into a book as quickly as I had with this one. The 1st sentence grabs your attention. By the time I turned to page 2, I was in tears.

The story is about two women. The first is a young mother, Tessa, who recently lost her 4-year old daughter to a hit and run car accident. She was figuring out how to continue to live and move on, and all the stages you go through with that process.

The second woman is her therapist. Without giving away the plot and the ending, the story unfolds and you discover that she also has suffered emotionally - in several ways. The book addresses her dysfunctional family and marriage to 2nd husband.

I'd love to tell you more details about these two women and their relationship, but it would ruin the whole story for you. It's definitely one you'll want to discover yourself.

What I will tell you is that although this is a tear jerker (and would make a helluva Hollywood movie), it's not the type of story that leaves you feeling empty. In fact, it's just the opposite.

I finished the book feeling grateful about all the little things. It sounds cliche but it's true. All of us find plenty to complain about these days. Whether it's the economy, the loss of a job or cut in salary, bills piled up, family feuds, your kids driving you nuts, etc., etc. I'm the leader of that rat pack. I seem to have fallen into the trap of getting sucked into the negativity that is spewing all over the place. However, I finished this book and I sat back and thought hmmm. My life - isn't bad at all. In fact, I have very little to complain about and so much to be grateful about. I started thanking my lucky stars - for all the little things that I thought were insignificant. It's true you should express gratitude for all the abundance in your life. Somehow that seems to be more tedious of a task than complaining about what's not going well in your life. Why do we fall into that trap?

Anyway, I thank author Lynne Griffin for pulling me out of that trap. I also have shared this story with friends of mine today and feel like I'm planting seeds - seeds that show the glass really, truly, absolutely is half full. When many of us see it lately as half empty.

Thank you Lynne for writing such a beautiful story that is a must-read for mothers everywhere. A product that finally can control baby's hair that is safe to use because it doesn't contain harsh chemicals or harmful ingredients. It's Le Baby hair gel created by Tami Dimmerman, a mom who was in search of a hair product to use for her daughter that wouldn't aggravate her eczema or sensitive skin. Tami couldn't find anything on the market so she did a lot of research and created her own product. We love it because it's not sticky and it smells fresh and clean. It is fragrance-free, but there is a slight hint of citrus.

Le Baby is ideal for babies, kids and anyone with sensitive skin. It's not tested on animals, rinses easily and moisturizes the hair. No more frizzies and fly-aways!! Keeps curls soft and the hairstyle in place. I know what you're thinking - the hair probably feels sticky or stiff. But it's not! This is a great product and we hope this product quickly becomes a "must-have" item for moms.

Check it out for yourself - LeBabyInc.com.

A great critical care kit for Moms-To-Be from Miss Oops!

We just learned about Miss Oops - and we're glad we did. They have a lot of great products for women - whether you're pregnant or not. From "chicken cutlets" to perk up your bosom, to JAKs shirt extender to cover your bottom when you're wearing low rise jeans. (You know how you hate to bend over in low rise jeans and reveal a little too much - this is the perfect solution!)

They also have this Critical Care Kit for moms-to-be that includes a "popper stopper" that covers belly buttons that 'pop' during pregnancy, a pedicure in a bottle and a rescue sponge to wipe off make-up on your clothes, or whatever dirty spot you need to disappear. Items are sold individually or in this complete kit for just $18.

The JAKs product was covered on The View (the video is on their website homepage). Their whole site is worth exploring - MissOoops.com.
