Ashea Goldson, originally born in Brooklyn, NewYork is a wife of twenty three years, a mother of two daughters, a grandmother of one, a graduate of Fordham University, a writer, a poet, a publisher, a reviewer, an internet radio host, an educator, and a co-founder of a Christian preparatory school. Active in the ministry, she is a dedicated member of World Changers Church International for many years. She has a lifetime of experience with writing which ranges from being published in local newspapers, magazines, and online publications to full length books.

Her first Christian fiction novel is The Lovechild, published by Urban Christian Publishers in 2008. Ashea’s short story entitled “The Kit Cat Trial” will be released in an anthology named Pets Across America in September 2009. Her second Christian fiction novel, Joy Comes In The Morning, will be released in July 2010, also by Urban Christian Publishers. She has recently released a non-fiction title, Resurrecting Vision: 45 steps To Digging Up Your Destiny And Seeing It Through God’s Eyes through her own publishing company.

Calling herself a kingdom writer, and passionate about this calling, she is currently working on her third novel, random poems, several short stories, a children’s book, and is organizing a literacy group for youth in her community. During her relaxation time she can be found hanging out with her family, snuggled up to a good book, or listening to gospel music.

As a published author, how do you balance writing time with family life?

I try to incorporate writing events into family vacations or outings, etc. I try to do as much writing as possible while being near my family, which usually involves me wearing headphones as I peck away at my keyboard. That way I can at least be in their presence while they may be watching television or some other potentially distracting activity. We actually have quiet times when we are all reading or writing.

I also do a lot of writing while my daughter is busy with her own school events, or while my husband is busy working also.

Do your children enjoy reading and writing as well? Any future writers?

Ironically, both of my children enjoy reading and writing, although my youngest refuses to be called an actual “writer”. My oldest daughter blogs daily and definitely has aspirations of becoming a published author.

Is The Lovechild appropriate for a teen to read?

Yes, The Lovechild is absolutely appropriate for teens to read. In fact, it was required reading for my middleschool class last year.

ABOUT THE BOOK

In The Lovechild, Makaeli Hunt, a successful fashion designer, has been driven far away from home by her family’s dysfunction. While living in Italy, trying to heal the wounds of yesterday, ambition becomes her comforter. When a family emergency forces her to return to her home, in seven life altering days, amidst memories of a tumultuous past, will one revealed secret drive her away from her family and God forever? Or will she discover what it means to be God’s lovechild?

Dealing with issues of racism, depression, self-esteem, drug addiction, mental illness, verbal and physical abuse,The Lovechild is a story of redemption and re-dedication, confirming our victory in Jesus Christ.

This year has been a testing on for me. I discovered that in so many ways on I am on target with what God has for me to do and in others I miss the target by a long shot. However, through it all I have been tremendously blessed.

At the beginning of this year I had it all planned out how my year would go. I was going to be Forty, Fit, and Fine. I did reach a lot of those goals: I am about 40 lbs smaller, I did turn 40, I started caring about myself more, and I learned to appreciate all that God has blessed me with.

To know that I am worth more than rubies in His eyes so much so that He knows the number of hairs on my head amazed me to no end. Once I grabbed on to that fact… I AM WORTH SOMETHING…it changed the way I approached my entire life.

God is just good like that!

As I considered my business and how it fits with my life I saw some things I like and some I did not like. I enjoyed the fact that I was actually making an income online. I loved that God was directing much of it. I did not like the fact that I was not giving Him total control. I did not like that fact that I was missing out on some tremendous blessing because I did not give Him total control.

Over the past few months my life has been shaken up quite a bit. To such a point that I have had to truly look at where I was in life. I had to access my strengths and weaknesses; consider my principles and values; and look at my true mission in life.

I had no other choice. God literally had my life at a standstill in the area of business. Everything seemed to go south and nothing was working the right. I was not getting it. I was working everyday at something but the outcome was not as I always expected.

I took some time to speak with two women who are just gems to me and realized some things. I needed a serious adjustment in my approach to a few things.

I was working from a standpoint outside of my scope of values and principles. Yes, I was within the scope on so many levels but I was starting to become discouraged by the lack of dollars and it was driving me into positions I did not care to be in. I was starting to get desperate and even ended up working on a project that cost me in the end. I did not hear God say no but I did see the warning signs early on and just kept at it.

Ahh well…lesson learned!

Here is the core of what I learned:

When you think that God is giving you something if you are not sure what to do with it…wait! He will reveal it to you. It is ok to step back for a while, evaluate and just wait. Don’t move ahead until it is revealed to you whether or not it is for you do.

If you feel led to help someone, don’t allow them to step over you and then come back for more. Some folks will give you a pity story over and over again just to get your sympathy, milk you like there is no tomorrow, and then leave you with the empty carton.

Stay within the scope of your core values and principles. In everything you do, use them as you gauge. If what is before you does not fit then it is likely not for you.

I saw that – especially with business – staying within the core is what matters most.

So I am biting the bullet on a few things in my life. For the purposes of this post, I will share one of them.

I will be writing more than I have in some years. I am signing up with Examiner.com for the Oklahoma City area, and I am once again going to take on writing clients. One of my values is that I care about the whole health of my family. When I was sticking with the writing finances were good. It was where God told me to go and I heeded. Then I got greedy and went way out of my scope. Not that I was not to add more to be list of services but that I totally left the writing out because it did not fit what I wanted to do. Instead of scaling back on the writing some, I stopped all together. I even stopped writing my devotions, encouraging words and articles for magazines. I was tired of doing it; and yet, writing is my love!

Sometimes you have to get to your breaking point to see the big picture. This past summer I was there.

I am writing my core values and principles out again so that I have them to gauge where I am and what I am doing. God has given me a list and over the next few months you will see some stuff that I am not even sure how to implement…and yet He has put the task before me.

Like the core of an apple, if what is on the inside starts to rot due to lack of care, then the flesh will just smell and taste nasty. I don’t want my core rotting to the cause of stench. As a servant who lives life on purpose, I must allow my core to be nurtured for the glory of God!

These stimulus packages include reduced costs for services, rebates, two for one deals, and even prayer. The Rev. Eric A. Lambert Jr. believes prayer is the stimulus to improving people’s lives not as a gimmick but by, for one, giving them peace even though they have a bleak financial outlook.

“Through prayer we find a place that guarantees peace,” Rev. Lambert says. “God wants to solve our problems and give us peace.” In his latest book, Ingredients for Prayer: A Practical Approach for Maximizing Your Time with God, Rev. Lambert, pastor of Bethel Deliverance International Church north of Philadelphia, details what he believes is the true purpose of prayer in contrast to the ‘give me syndrome’ of prayer that so many with financial woes seem to have.

“We are often challenged by the worldly view of prayer, and we fall into the trap that makes us think that we are able to use prayer to bully the Lord into doing what we want. Yet I believe prayer is a time for intimacy and connection with God,” Rev. Lambert says. “Prayer by definition is worshipful oratory. By hyper-definition, prayer is an act of intercourse with your soul and God’s spirit. It is you connecting with God until your desires have been replaced by His heart.”

By using “The Lord’s Prayer” as a framework, he examines pieces of this prayer model to show ways to connect with God, like understanding the mind and will of God and becoming dependent upon and receiving the peace of God. Rev. Lambert says having a God-centered and not self-centered focus on prayer helps you to know that “[p]rayer is not about you. It is about the will of the Lord being done through you. To make supplication means that you should bring your request to the Lord; however, you must be sure that your request does not go against the will of the Lord.”

Rev. Eric A. Lambert Jr. responded to God’s call to Jesus Christ in 1971. From that time he was active in Christian ministry, serving in a variety of capacities at Deliverance Evangelistic Church, under the pastorate of the Rev. Dr. Benjamin Smith Sr. In 1987, after God’s leading, Rev. Lambert established Bethel Deliverance International Church in 1987 with seven committed believers, just north of his hometown of Philadelphia. In addition to pastoring, Rev. Lambert is fulfilling his apostolic calling, having planted a number of churches and developed pastoral relationships with both new and seasoned pastors. He remains committed to spreading the love of God to those who do not know Him while stabilizing and fortifying believers. This is evident not only in his church but in the messages of his books. For more information, visit www.betheldeliverance.org.

BOOK REVIEW

I will not write this review as typical one would be written. No this book needs a little more than the typical “Book Reviewer” guidelines warrant. With this review I really want to come from the heart because this book really rocked my world.

I am a woman who believes in prayer and I talk to God often. After reading Ingredients For Prayer by Eric A. Lambert, I was able to see that I need to step it a bit in my prayer life.

Eric challenges the reader to go deep with God and yet too many of us are still waning on the surface of becoming intimation with God. That is what prayer does. It takes beyond the communication into the intimacy with God that is needed to truly make it in this world. Ingredients to Prayer helped me to see that I may not have been as “deep” with God as I thought I had been all these years.

Yes, I have had experiences during prayer where I felt the presence of God and other experiences, I dare not share because this is a book review.Perhaps those other experiences are the ones that pushed me back up to the surface of my prayer life.

Ingredients For Prayer convicted me and reminded me that I have to go deeper.

For the person seeking a deeper, more meaningful prayer life, this is the perfect book to read. It reminds of not only of the importance of intimacy with God during prayer; but also of the authenticity that is needed when we pray. It is ok to just be yourself when you pray. It is who God expects you to be anyway.

Ingredients For Prayer brings reality in the prayer life of a believer. It is a short read that can be referred to again and again, with a lifetime of help for every believer.
Whenever I sing this song I am reminded of the things I still need to work on and the things that God is perfecting in me. That’s right I said perfecting. God is always preparing you for something more. We always ...

Lord prepare me, to be a sanctuary
Pure and holy; tried and true
And with thanksgiving I’ll be a living
Sanctuary,
Lord for You

I love this song. It reminds me that God wants me to be set apart for His glory! A sanctuary is a consecrated place. A place set aside for special purposes.

Whenever I sing this song I am reminded of the things I still need to work on and the things that God is perfecting in me. That’s right I said perfecting. God is always preparing you for something more. We always reach the end of one leg of the journey.

I am near the end of one leg of my wonderful journey. I have felt God’s pull for quite sometime with this but I was not sure He was telling me this. However, every time I see or hear of woman suffering through depression, taking meds to stay calm, crying out for different life, or in what I call a “spiritual funk”, I know that God was not stuttering when He told me to do this.

I have a program based on the philosophy of this blog, called Pathways to Authentic Living that launched in March of this year. You can read more about here, but don’t sign up there because you will be charged. All you have to do to be part of the program is visit this blog often and sign up for the mailing list.

The women who are a part of the course enjoy it and yet I kept telling God there are not enough getting the message and power behind Pathways. I think many Christian women are stuck thinking that the program may be founded upon New Age Philosophy, Blab it and Grab It, or The Secret. They could not be further from the truth.

This is sorta how the conversation went over the last 5 months while I struggled with this decision to do what I knew God was calling me to do.

So I said, “Lord what do I do to get women to grab hold to this? Not just Christian women, but women in need a BREAKTHROUGH?”

“Give it away”, I thought I heard.

“Lord, are you for real?”

“Yes!”

“But why Father. I created this program with not only helping other women but to make some money too. I can’t live on air.”

“When have I ever not provided. Give it away.”

“Well, Lord. I need to think about this. I put a lot of time and effort into pulling this program together”

“To whom much is given, much is required. I took you through the process so that you can bless others. And when I gave it, it was a gift. The only thing I required was your undivided attention. Was your life not changed as a result?”

“Well, yeah but…”

“Give it away. Seek first My Kingdom and the rest will be given to you. Too many of my Children are being misinformed about abundant living. Too many are missing important issues when it comes to authentic living. I did create each one uniquely because that is how I love them. I want them to know this.”

“Well, Lord, if you say so. I may not get it all but I will just Give It Away.”

That has been the conversation over the last 5 months and initially it bothered me; but after a while I started getting very excited. I was going to get the opportunity to share this magnificent journey towards true authentic living with others.

Look for the Pathways Program to become a part of the Mom Unplugged blog in a major way. Be sure to join the subscriber list for updates on the podcast I have planned as well. You also want to pay attention to the Paths To Authentic Living category because that is where most of the material will be located for this program.

I suggest you get a good journal, Bible, and some tissue because trust me there will be times when you will cry. Some of the tears will be painful but many will be joyful as a result of the breakthrough you will experience.

I will be starting with the program here on the blog, free of charge, December 1. It will become the core of Mom Unplugged. But you do not have to be a mom to be blessed by the program.

One more thing I want to tell you before I go. I mentioned the song, Lord Prepare Me at the very beginning and the importance of a sanctuary. I see now that by obeying Him and following through that He has been preparing me for it all along. I have a great deal of the content and audio already done. Isn’t God good

I have been set apart with the purpose of helping women step out of the box of mediocrity into a wonderful world of Whole Authentic Living in Christ!

It seems like football has always been a part of my life in some way or another. My mother and father both loved the sport as well as all my aunts and uncles. It did not help that we had relatives who were professional football players and when it was football time we had to watch them on TV or if they were down for a visit, play football in the yard at my dad or aunt’s house.
Football was always a part of my life. Even as I ...

Even as I got older and my brother would throw Sunday football parties where i served as the chef and the bartender. They loved my chili by the way

Now my 17 year old plays and although my sport is basketball, I enjoy football somewhat. Most of all I love supporting him in any way I can.

So imagine my surprise when I was contacted to join in on a tailgating contest. Frito Lay wants you to enjoy football season and the cool thing is that they want you to do it with healthier recipes.

This will be a fun contest where you can tell us about your healthy recipe using a Frito Lay product. You don’t have to have made the recipe yet. Just share one with us that we can vote on. You can even post pictures if you want to.

For example I made a seven layer dip made with fat free sour cream and cream cheese along with 2% shredded cheese and fat free bean dip. Of course it had fresh veggies too….tomatoes, lettuce, green onions and olives (wait I think that olives are fruit because they have seeds…ahh well). I served the dip on game day with a bag of Tostitos and a bag of Fritos!

At any rate if your recipe is chosen you will win a cool Tailgating Party Kit that includes Yummy Frito Lay chips, a cool Football Dip and Chip mix and a $25 American Express gift card that you can use to buy the ingredients for your recipe. Pretty cool huh!

Here a pic of the Tailgating Kit:

Here are the contest rules:

Share a recipe on your blog with either a video or written post (do both and get an extra entry).

Recipes must include a Frito Lay product like chips used for dipping, Tostitos used as a base for a Taco Salad or even a Frito Pie.

Special Notice: If you do not have a blog, that is ok. Just tell me about your favorite Frito Lay product and you will get an entry into the contest.

Make the recipe as healthy as possible as we are focusing on healthier choices.

Come back here and share the URL to your post so that we can see them.

Tweet for extra points with the hashtag #tailgatingfun

Contest ends Friday October 23 and the winner will be announced on game day October 25. Prizes are shipped directly from Frito Lay.

**Note: I received a part kit as well but I was not paid and additional fee to host this giveaway.

It inspires you to find out who you are, how you tick, and what you can do with the ticks. Marcus does a great job of cutting to the chase and telling it like it is when it comes to women getting real and discovering their strongest self.

It inspires you to find out who you are, how you tick, and what you can do with the ticks. Marcus does a great job of cutting to the chase and telling it like it is when it comes to women getting real and discovering their strongest self.

I was thrilled to see a Strong Life test. I discovered that my strongest life is found in teaching and creating. Well, I knew that. It was just confirmed by taking the test.

As you read the book you will discover facts, read some eye opening research, and see that many women are living a life based on myths more so than truth. Reading the stories of women seeking will help you to see that you are not alone on this journey.

As I read Find your Strongest Life, I found myself wanting to get up and get the job at hand done. It was as if Marcus were right there talking to me across the table while we sipped on coffee and tea. He seems to get what women need when it comes to discovery of self! AWESOME FOR A MAN!

It was an awesome read for me because I do not believe in multi-tasking. I only have two hands, two feet, and one brain and trying to do it all makes me nutty. It was refreshing to find out that I don’t have to do it and that my strongest life comes from finding my place in God’s plan and sticking with it.

If you are seeking your strongest life, then read Find Your Strongest Life! You won’t be sorry.

Watch this video where Marcus talks about the dangers of being a juggler. You will see why we need to get focused and stay the course to find our strongest life!

Jacquelin Thomas is an award winning, bestselling author with twenty-nine titles in print. Her books have garnered several awards, including two EMMA awards, the Romance In Color Reviewers Award, Readers Choice Award and the Atlanta Choice Award in the Religious & Spiritual category. Jacquelin was a 2005 honoree at the Houston Black Film Festival for the movie adaptation of her novel, Hidden Blessings. She was the first recipient to receive the Writers Achievement Award at the North Carolina Book Festival in Winston-Salem.

Although Jacquelin initially published in the romance genre, she decided to follow the call on her heart to write Christian fiction because she seeks to write books that will touch your heart and uplift your spirits with tales of characters who yearn to have an intimate relationship with God. Committed to writing books that glorify God and her growing teen audience, Jacquelin published the first of her Young Adult Inspirational Fiction series titled Simply Divine in October 2006. Her second book in the series, Divine Confidential was nominated for a 2008 NAACP Image Award. She has since gone on to publish two more books in the series. When asked why she is so passionate about writing teen novels, Thomas shares that teens are confronted with so much—sex, drugs, violence and abuse, physically and mentally. They need to not only listen to what the world says about these things but also to what the Bible says.

Jacquelin is a member of the National Writers Union, Romance Writers of America and the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. She is happily married to her best friend and is the proud mother of three children. Jacquelin and her family live in North Carolina.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Jana Collins loves her husband with all her heart. But what if love isn’t enough?

Marrying a handsome, wealthy lawyer and living in a Hollywood Hills mansion . . . it’s a dream come true for twenty-four-year-old Jana, from the moment Lawrence Collins swept her off her feet and into his luxurious world. True, she put her studies at a local Bible college on hold in order to wed after a six-month whirlwind romance. Beautiful and vivacious, with a stunning body, Jana knows men like Lawrence don’t come along every day, and she vows to be a perfect companion—the ideal wife—to this sexy, powerful man. But at what price?

From her wardrobe and hairstyle to her friends and her choice of church, Lawrence seems to want to change Jana into someone she’s not . . . and soon, the man Jana thought she knew will test her values and her faith with a shocking revelation that goes against everything she believes—how far will Jana be willing to go to keep the man she loves? With her “ideal” marriage falling apart, Jana—the real, modest, smart, and strong girl who knows what she stands for—must put her trust in God, and follow His guiding light out of the darkness of a broken relationship.

Drawing from a moving scripture tale with an insightful message for women today, Jacquelin Thomas delivers a provocative and enlightening new novel.

BOOK REVIEW

Jacquelin Thomas has not written a book that was anything less than compelling. She writes stories that speak directly to a person’s soul. It is not less true for her latest novel, The Ideal Wife. Set in sunny Southern California, this book takes the dilemma of choosing between a life that is sold out to Christ and one that dips into the lures of a world filled with sin and confusion; and place it right into the readers lap. The reader will find themselves wondering how they would handle a situation like the one we find the characters of The Ideal Wife involved in.

In The Ideal Wife we met Jana. She is a young girl who finds love and marriage with Lawrence. While he may seem perfect , Jana soon finds out that her “perfect” husband has a closet full of skeletons that later confront her with the decision to try and make her marriage work no matter the cost; or give it all up. The situation presented to her is one that the church neglects to cover but desperately needs to come to the forefront.

You will find yourself crying, confused, and wondering just how many couples face this type of devastation on a daily basis. It is not a book filled with a fairy tale end, but it will leave you hopeful and wondering is this a subject that the church dare to touch.

LaCricia A`ngelle is a licensed Evangelist, writer, and the President and CEO of His Pen Publishing LLC. A native of Chicago, LaCricia currently resides in Tennessee with her four children. Girl, Naw! is her first novel.

Her writing career began when she was a child writing songs, and short stories. LaCricia has always had a God given gift of putting words together.

As a Christian Fiction author, LaCricia not only writes for entertainment, but she also writes for ministry. Her goal in every piece of written work is to draw someone closer to Christ. The characters face real situations. LaCricia writes so that anyone can read her work and get something out of it, whether they are young or old. When you read a LaCricia A`ngelle original prepare to laugh, cry, pray, and stop to say “hmmm.”

Book Review

In Girl, Naw! we are introduced to Antoinette; a woman scorned. Despite her efforts to stay away from men forever, after the pain of a devastating breakup, Antoinette is introduced to Maurice who sweeps her off her feet. They become a blended family of four that includes Maurice’s daughter, Destiny and Antoinette’s daughter Terilyn. Together they know that they can makes it because the marriage is God ordained.

As a counselor, Antoinette helps women in pain and she loves every minute of it, no matter how draining it becomes. She knows that God placed her in the position of a healing agent for a reason. However Antoinette has some past issues that she would as soon bury but they come to surface; forcing her to learn the value of forgiveness before she is eaten alive with bitterness and anger. Maurice is her rock through it all but she does not make it easy to do so. The skeletons she must face and the people who come back into her life will challenge her faith.

Girl, Naw! is a great read for anyone who love not only a good book but a relevant story. It ties in the reality of not forgiving and what it can do to your mental health when you don’t let go with the freedom that comes when you learn to simply let it all go. LaCricia A’ngelle did a wonderful job of bringing together the pains of a woman’s soul and giving the reader a process to deal with the pain they may be in and letting it go.

I highly recommend this quick read book to every woman who has ever dealt with the pain of bitterness and the issue of trusting God through it all.
