Finding your perfect foundation shade match can seem like a struggle, but Mo’Mineral Makeup can help you!

Our foundation shades are categorized into four groups, Light Tan, Medium Tan, Dark Tan, and Deep Tan. The shades are specially formulated to beautifully match dark and ‘melanin-rich’ skin tones.

Browse our website to see images of women wearing our shades to determine which group will contain your match.

Purchase one of our sample sets from your chosen category using our website. (Our sample sets are £5.00 and also contain a sample shade of your choice from our array of gorgeous mineral blush colours).

Set out your sample pots on a flat surface in the same order that you intend to apply the swatches. This step is important for when you refer back to the samples later.

Using a cotton bud or a small brush, apply three separate and distinct stripes of the foundation, one for each shade, across your cheek and jawline. Make sure the length of the stripes include your neck, as your perfect foundation shade should blend harmoniously into both your face and neck. Overall, with foundation your face and neck shouldn’t appear to have two distinctly different shades – they should match.

MoMineral Makeup started as an online makeup brand out of our passion to create a solution in our own little way. There was a time where it felt like the beauty industry cannot be bothered to cater for the dark skin. It was a big struggle to match our skin without looking funny.

Summer 2012, I was bent on finding a good foundation for myself. If I found myself lucky, I was going to introduce my friends and colleagues to the brand. I went to a big shop with wide range of renown makeup brands & unfortunately, I came out looking grey & disappointed.

As a makeup artist for people with dark skin, it was very frustrating to match the skin. In other to achieve a flawless complexion, my clients will wear more than one foundation in different brands. Hyperpigmentation in Dark skin

We can not over-emphasise the importance of taking care of your skin. The skin is the body’s largest organ and the first line of defense against diseases and infections. Any appearance of dark spots from scars, blemishes, sunburn, age spots or any skin discolouration issues will trigger you to take steps towards preventing any form of further damage on the skin as changes in skin pigmentation can be a significant source of emotional distress in individuals with dark skin complexion.

Hyperpigmentation, caused by the overproduction of Melanin - a brown pigment in the skin. It could be in the form of small sports or covers a large area as in age spots, liver spots, and sunburn. Hyperpigmentation can happen on the face, hand, and the body.

Hyperpigmentation disorders such as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, drug-induced hyperpigmentation, melanosis (also known as melasma) and erythema dyschromicum perstans, unfortunately, tend to have prolonged course. It is, however, exciting to know that hyperpigmentation can be reduced and treated.

A common form of facial pigmentation called Melanosis has been linked to long-term exposure to sunlight, use of some cosmetic ingredients and hormonal factors

On the other hand, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation occurs when excess melanin pigments are deposited on the skin following an inflammatory skin disorder (black spots from pimples)

In young ladies, the alteration of hormonal levels sometimes caused by the use of contraceptive pills and pregnancy can also trigger melanin production resulting in uneven skin complexion especially on the face and lower abdomen.

Treatment for Hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone

Age spots, Dark spots and sun damage on the skin are prevented by avoiding prolong exposure to sunlight, feeding the skin with antioxidants found mainly in fruits and vegetables and wearing products with sunscreen.

In a quest to reduce the appearance of dark spots on the skin, individuals have resolved to the use harsh chemicals peels and so on.

The most common ingredients used in skin bleaching are Hydroquinone and Mercury. Hydroquinone has been around for a while and used in different strengths and combination with other elements in bleaching crèmes. My name is Aarinola.

I want to talk about my makeup (not that I use it all the time) but recently read about the guy that was suing his wife because of her makeup, I just can’t help it. The bride’s face before and after is unbelievable that someone who spoke on behalf of the man said that when he woke up and saw she had washed her makeup, he was frightened as he thought she was a thief.
