Now this dish may sound a little strange, but it taste really good. Unless of course, someone doesn't like kidney beans!

INGREDIENTS:

1 pound of bacon
1 pound box of spaghetti
1 large can of light kidney beans
1 large can of dark kidney beans
2 large onions (diced)
Garlic (diced)

DIRECTIONS:

1. First begin by cutting the bacon down in to two inch strips, and cooking over medium heat in a large pot. Let this cook alone for about 10 minutes, or until you begin seeing some excess oil in the pot.
2. Next add onions and garlic-The oil from the bacon is what we will be using to saute the onions and garlic.
3. Slowly saute onions and garlic until soft.
4. Add kidney beans, and turn temperature down to low. We want to allow the kidney bean mixture to heat thoroughly but slowly for best flavor.
5. While you are waiting you can boil the spaghetti. I use angel hair, but you can use whatever you prefer.
6. Drain spaghetti, and add it to your kidney bean mixture.
7. Serve immediately
.

You could make creamy potato soup, loaded potato soup, and so on. This recipe is for old fashioned potato soup, the kind that is more budget friendly. My family likes this soup thick, with a couple drops of hot sauce as a bowl topper.

Old Fashioned Potato Soup Recipe:

1 pound of sausage (Italian, or Jimmy Dean)

3-5 pounds of potatoes (peeled, and sliced)

2-3 onions chopped

1 stick of butter

2 cups of milk

seasoning-salt, pepper, garlic powder, thyme, parsley

3 cups of chicken broth

Boil potatoes until tender, drain.

In a large pot, brown sausage and onions together.

Mash potatoes well with butter, and add them to your meat.

Season to taste.

Add milk, and stir.

Pour in chicken broth one cup at a time, this way you can reach your desired consistency.

Cook over medium low for at least an hour.

This makes enough to feed 4-6 people well, you may have a little bit left over. It's just as good heated up for lunch the next afternoon. This dish can be made without sausage, too.

Cheap Meal Ideas For Family's On A Budget

Coming up with cheap meal ideas for family's on a budget can be a tough task indeed. I have found quite a few cheap dinner recipes, that may help you save some cash on your grocery bill.

I was laid off back in June of 2010, due to the fallen economy. You can imagine as a single mother of 3, I have been looking for every way possible to save each penny that I can. I use to spend $200 + per week for groceries when I was working, now we are lucky if we have $80-$100 per week to spend for groceries.

This situation has inspired me to help others in the same, or similar positions. I have decided to add a new category to this blog- Cheap Dinner Recipes. I am going to let you in on all of the cheap meal ideas that I have found to be helpful, as well as good tasting.

Make sure to check this section often, as my goal is to find at least 31 cheap dinner recipes. If you would like to share a cheap meal idea with us, please leave me a comment.

Easy Recipes Using Hamburger Meat-Hamburger's Soaked in Gravy

We have another winner! Hamburgers soaked in gravy is loved by our whole family, and that's almost unheard of! It's really hard to please three picky kids, but this is another one of those easy recipes using hamburger meat that has become a family favorite for the kids. Grown ups like it too, so don't worry it really is a crowd pleaser.

This one is so easy there really is no recipe card needed. Just make hamburger patties, and fry just as if you were cooking hamburgers on buns. Make up 4-6 cups of your favorite brown gravy. When the hamburgers are done frying, simply add them to your gravy. Keep warm in oven while you make your sides.

We always have mashed potatoes with this one since we already have the gravy! Warm up some canned green beans, and dinner is done.
Our family loves having breakfast for dinner every once in a while. There are so many different combinations you can make when it comes to breakfast foods, adding a nice change to the ordinary dinner idea.

Variety is very important when it comes to making home cooked meals. Having the same thing over and over again will become very boring in no time at all. Trying new recipes, once or twice a week is a great way to keep your dinner ideas fresh.

If you have children it's also improtant to introduce them to a variety of foods, some say this lessens the chance of having a picky eater. Breakfast foods are usually a winner amongst kids.

Ingredients:

1# of any breakfast sausage (I prefer to use Jimmy Dean)
3 cups of diced potatoes or cooked rice
1 small bell pepper
1 small onion diced small
8 large eggs
1/4 cup of milk
1 tsp. salt & pepper

Directions:

1. Slightly brown sausage in large skillet over medium heat

2. Mix in onions, peppers, and potatoes cook until potatoes are tender

3. Pour off excess grease

4. Scramble eggs, with milk and pour over meat mix

5. Cook until eggs are done

Home Made-Cheese Ball

I have always enjoyed, being the host of the party. I like to make things, that are easily prepared in advance. It helps to make the day of the party, alot less hectic. This home made cheese ball is one of my favorites to make. I always receive great compliments on this one, too. I make them for our football party's, Thanksgiving, Easter, or any of our family get togethers. They always seem to be eaten, very quickly. Here's a tip for saving the left overs, (if there are any): Place two half eggs together, to form the appearance of a whole egg, then wrap with saran wrap or foil.

Deviled Eggs

Ingredients:

1 dozen boiled eggs (peeled)
3 tbsp. mayo
3 tbsp. sour cream
salt and pepper to taste
paprika (to sprinkle on as garnish)

Slice eggs in half, lengthwise; remove yolk and place in medium size bowl, place egg white on a large tray.

When finished removing all yolks from eggs, add everything except for paprika.

Mix on medium with a mixer until smooth.

place mixture in a zip lock bag, and cut the very corner tip with scissors.

Hold like a decorator bag, and fill egg whites with mixture.

Garnish with Paprika, or you may place a sliced green olive on each one for decoration.

Home Cooked-Easy Easter Dinner

Easter Dinner made easy!

I think I would have to say Easter is one of the easier holidays of them all. I really try to make it very simple. I do believe in Home Cooked food, after all isn't that what this whole blog is about? Well even I cheat on occasion! I really love The Honey Baked Hams, from the Honey Baked Ham store.

One year for Easter, my sister-n-law was in charge of making the ham, luckily she decided to start it early saturday morning, to make things easier on Easter day! Now, this was the first time she had ever made a ham, usually this was my mother's specialty but she had passed the year prior.

I woke up fairly early that saturday morning, and much to my surprise the ham that she was cooking, actually smelled pretty good! (my sister-n-law wasn't to much of an experienced cook at this point and time) Anyway, I took a peek in the oven, and she did a great job, it looked and smelled wonderful. I was really impressed, as I was only 18 at the time, and I didn't know the first thing about cooking a ham either.

It couldn't have been more than 10 minutes later, there was a loud, crashing sound that came from the kitchen. It almost sounded as if someone had broke every dish in the whole house all at once. I ran into the kitchen to make sure everything was ok, and my sister-n-law was standing there in tears. It seems that she added a little cold water, to the ham in order to keep it from drying out, which would have been fine, if she wasn't using a glass pan to cook it in! That was when I learned, you can't add cold water to a hot glass pan!

That's when I discovered the Honey Baked Ham store. They make the best spiral sliced ham, I had ever eaten. So now, for our Easter Dinner, we have a new tradition. My sister-n-law is in charge of buying the ham from the Honey Baked Ham store, and I make the side dishes. My side dishes consist of; my homemade potatoe salad, macoroni and cheese, baked beans and deviled eggs. I usually make a NewYork style cheesecake for dessert.

Home Cooked-Boiled Eggs

Soft-cooked eggs

Put eggs in a large saucepan, and cover with water, 1 inch above eggs.

Bring to boil, remove from heat.

Cover with lid and let stand for 3 minutes.

Cool eggs in cold water immediately for 10 minutes.

Hard-cooked eggs

Place eggs in a large saucepan; cover with water, 1 inch above eggs.

Bring to boil; remove from heat

Cover with lid and let stand for 20 minutes.

Cool eggs immediately, in cold water for about 10 minutes.

Boiled egg tips

Place eggs in warm water for 10 minutes before boiling to help eliminate cracking.

For eggs that are hard to peel, try peeling them under cold running water.

Easy Recipes Using Hamburger Meat- Meat Loaf Supreme

Here is another one of our great, easy recipes using hamburger meat. There are so many different dishes that you can create with hamburger, and many of these are crowd pleasers so you can use them to get the most out of your dollar.

Meat Loaf is a wonderful, easy, home cooked meal idea. I always have preferred it with gravy, versus the tomatoe sauce version. This meat loaf can be made either way, just depends on how you like it. I serve this with mash potatoes, and green beans or brocolli, but you could make just about anything work with this delicious meat loaf.

Here's a cooking tip: Make mash potatoes, spread them on top of your cooked meat loaf, put back in oven, on 250 degrees, for 10 minutes, or until brown.

Meat Loaf Supreme
Ingredients:

2 #s hamburger

1/2 cup cream of mushroom soup

1/2 cup of dry bread crumbs

1/2 cup of onions (diced small)

1 egg beaten

1 tsp. salt

1tsp. pepper

1tbsp.garlic powder

Mix everything together

Shape into loaf, and place in a shallow glass pan.
